Reviews for Ship Cove/Ramea Islands
Island Charm, 2015-09-11
Captain: , Deer Isle, Maine (514)

Reconstruction of the public wharf last winter has actually reduced the space available for visiting boats by eliminating the arm that extended out from the northern end of the pier. Locals reported that the harbor work that was done at that time eliminated the risk from the rock under the floating docks that extend to the southwest. Although some evidence of ledge is still there, two forty foot sailboats could comfortably occupy the northern side of the floating dock that extends out to the southeast. A couple of shallower draft cruising motorboats came in and tied up to the southwestern face of the floating dock without hitting the ledge. There is now water on the public dock (one outlet) and work is underway on providing 110V AC, so perhaps by next season electricity will be available.

Ramea is very picturesque. Be sure to follow the walking trails around the island, including a trip up to the viewing platform off Man of War Road and the lighthouse on Northwest Head. The people at Eastern Outdoors are very friendly and offer good basic fare at the restaurant. Showers were available for $6.80, but the price includes fresh towels. The bank near the docks was open only sporadically (several scheduled days in August were referred to on the sign in the window).

Brand new public dock in 2015. $10 including 15A. Water available. Friendly, great hiking on Boardwalk. Modest grocery store nearby.

lovely island boardwalk with wonderful people to show you around, 2014-08-19

island boardwalk takes you under a balsam forest and over pristine beaches and small inland lakes. locals treat you like family. ate at Eastern Outdoors hostel and kayak center for several meals. The mayor and ferry captain came to meet us along with many of the town. Visited the craft center and shopped in the stores. We highly recommend a visit to this friendly and scenic island.

Ship Cove Dockside, 2014-07-11

Stayed 2 nights in July. Heavy fog with my arrival, was greated by a local who helped with lines etc. Friendly folks gathered to give a look see of the boat and to provide general info. Peolpe are very friendly. Dockmaster is trying hard to attract visiting boats. 1/2 between Port Aux Basques and St Pierre. There is plenty of water with 7 ft tides at the wall. Only 1 large commercial fishing boat seen on the dochs. The other fishing boats are for sale or unservicable.

great fuel and water stop, 2013-10-02

Cruising the coast we stopped here twice to get fuel, (heating oil off the truck) and best water on the south coast (RO at we dock).

Great Place To Get Water, 2012-07-09
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (578)

We visited in 2009 and found ourselves in the midst of their 10 year "Come Home" celebration. We met wonderful people and filled up with the best water along the SW coast. Dockage was a little tight due to the festivities but no one was turned away.

Interesting and Unadorned, 2010-08-12

The Ramea Islands are unusual along the Newfoundland Coast, simply because there are few inhabited islands at all. Ramea is quite modern and has all the services one needs, but there is no particular glamour that one often associates with many other harbors on this coast. It is a higly recommended stop, but largely for practical reasons. I am visiting, for instance, to attend an annual music festival.

However this village had the unmistakable gift of hospitality that one associates with Newfoundland. I have been here less than one day, and I cannot count the number of friendly and helpful people I've already encountered.
