Operation (seasonal or year-round)
Year round

Additional info: Monthly, transient, and dry moorage. Additional seasonal dry moorage yard.

When approaching from the south it is very important to remember 'red right return' as the area to the port side of the red buoy is very shallow and many boats run aground there each year.

Reviews for Shilshole Bay Marina
A nice stay , 2016-08-24
Captain: , everett, wa (275)

We pulled in to drop someone off and make some engine repairs. the nearest place that stocked the parts was east of I5. I made use of a free loaner bicycle and returned with the parts via the Burk Gilman trail which is right next to the marina. Clean restrooms and showers were there. Shopping was a distance away. This was a really quiet stay, except the nearby trains, but no horns were blown so sleep was easy.

Excellent facilities but pricey and bureaucratic, 2015-10-26
Captain: , Annapolis MD (170)

Very nice and huge marina with good security on the docks and excellent and organized facilities, including for trash and laundry (have never seen laundry machines that text you when done or available). A good West Marine store is very close and a 30-minute walk brings you to Ballard for food/entertainment and an amazing array of marine businesses that are very high quality and generally focused on serving the fishing fleet inside the locks. Very nice and welcoming community, including the wonderful Dockside Solutions business and Jibe coffee bar. Only issue is rigid pricing that gets very expensive for longer stays ("transients" can't get monthly rates, even though monthly rates are 1/3 the transient rate for exactly the same slips and services) and the staff, while some can be nice, generally have an attitude that reflects their government paycheck.

Great Permanent and Transient Moorage, 2015-08-11
Captain: , Seattle, WA (50)

Well-designed and maintained Port of Seattle Marina. Has all amenties to include fuel, pump-out and small general store on H Dock (guest dock). Marina will provide free shuttle service to Ballard area. Seaview Boatyard is to the south, boat ramp to the north. Only thing I find lacking is, no WiFi, otherwise, I'd give it a 5-start rating.

Good Marina, 2014-01-15
Captain: , Seattle (312)

Good marina, but a few pegs below Elliott Bay Marina on many levels. Good facilities, showers, restaurants close by and a West Marina down the street. Also a quick jump to a lot of good ports on the sound. It is however way out in Ballard and a haul from just about everywhere. A lot of good folks living aboard, BUT there's a higher than average percentage of riff raff representing.

Real clean and modern, 2013-09-22
Captain: , Quilcene, WA (20)

Lovely facility w/ everything pretty new and in good condition.

No nearby shopping facilities at all and not much nearby as far as restaurants either. A not too dificult walk (flat and on sidewalks); however, gets one to Ray's Boathouse, Anthony's Home Port, Paseo (great sandwiches!) and West Marine just to the south or to the tiny snack shop/burger bar Little Coney's at the north end of the marina.

Walking further afield, going south and then east (on easily managed sidewalks and bike trails) one can visit the locks and it's surrounding parks or Ballard itself and its many eateries and shops.

Regrettably, no Free Wi-Fi at the marina and the BBX service was TOTALLY worthless when we were there (not even working while leaning against the marina offices or walking anywhere else in the area after having paid for it).

Staff are all very nice and friendly but seem somwhat confused and disorganized but in a pleasant way!

lota walking, 2013-06-14
Captain: , Port Orchard, WA (292)

Very clean and organised. Small taco shack on south end has great Tacos. Long Walk to most services.

Easy in Easy out, 2012-05-28
Captain: , Port Isabel TX (640)

Transients use H dock (fuel, pumpout). Nice wide slips. Friendly Staff. Good for overnight with great views.

Nice Marina, 2012-03-23
Captain: , Port Orchard WA (261)

Nice place to stop off on the way in or out of the locks

Good place to overnight before tackling the bridges and locks, 2011-05-11
Captain: , Gig Harbor (134)

The facilities for mooring are excellent with power, water and cable tv at each slip. Excellent restroom in the office building, but no shower facilties for guest boaters.

Still Getting Better, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Puget Sound (115)

Shilshole is still getting bewttrer and better every month. Staff is Friendly (not sure why someone thought they wern't) and helpful.
No food or services at the Marina but there is a small Coney Island by the boat launch and two great resturants, one sandwich shop and two lattee stands within walking distance.

Good facility still working on improvements, 2010-03-25
Captain: , Seattle (250)

We overnighted on our way through the locks. Big slips, wide fairways, and all the basics (water, power) you would expect. The staff was pleasant and helpful, from the point we made reservations for 8 boats, up to on the dock visits to make sure all was well.

The setting is nice, with the Olympics looming over the breakwater, and the entrance to the Ballard Locks is just outside the south end of the breakwater. Anthony's and Ray's Boathouse are an easy walk, and West Marine is nearby. Everything else, though, is too far to be convenient.

One thing we found odd - the gate to the guest dock is unlocked during the day, and at night you have to call and wait for someone to come let you in. The gate is equipped with a keypad and card-key reader, but you don't get a code or a card. Nor can they open the gate remotely. Maybe this will change.

Your not-so-friendly neighborhood marina, 2010-03-16
Captain: , ANONYMOUS (193)

The staff is a bit rude and I would say the community is disinterested at best. Not a friendly marina.

The bus service is terrible, and it is far away from everything.

Wonderful overniight, 2009-06-03
Captain: , Seattle (460)

the public docsk are cheap, well protected, and include water, power, and cable TV, which is great for the kids. The perfect stop when going in or out of the locks.

Great place to live, 2008-03-20
Captain: , Puget Sound (10)

The marina staff have been excellent during all the remodels and need for moving morrage during construction. The views of the Olympics every morning are fabulous. Great coffee bar within walking distance "Purple Cow" as well as West Marine.

Overnight stop only, 2007-09-23
Captain: , Olympia (1435)

Some transient moorage but not too much to do when you get there.

Great place to keep a boat. Not a great destination to visit., 2007-05-10
Captain: , Seattle, Wa. (312)

I've kept a boat here for 4 years now. And livingaboard here for the last year plus. I Iike the marina, it has been going through a major remodel for the last 2 years with 2 more to go. But All new docks and some new facilitys are very nice.

One bad thing, to me is the lack of any Bars or resurants at the marina it'self. There are alot if you go into Ballard, but nothing at the marina.

Awesome View/sunset over the olympic Mtns every evening.
