Reviews for Shelter Cove Marina
Shelter Cove Marina, 2017-03-20
Captain: , Knoxville Tn (10)

We have had our 80 lazzara in Shelter Cove for almost 6 weeks now and will be leaving soon to continue our trip. Jason, the dockmaster, has been extremely helpful all the way back to even a few months before we arrived. Jason was able to orchestrate us renting a permanent tennantss 80' T Head for our entire stay here. My owners could not be happier with our stay. The docks were spotless and we were right next to many resturants and shops. Jason also organized and oversaw a buff and wax job in my abcence which we were very pleased with. We absolutely would, and plan to, stay here on our return trip. On a side note: cleanest pump out boat ive ever seen.

Great marina and staff!, 2017-03-20
Captain: , Charleston, SC (20)

I just returned to Shelter Cove this weekend to begin a new long-term dockage agreement. I was previously in a mariina in Charleston and I was looking for a change of atmosphere. Wow! did I get it. Great new atmosphere and incredible staff! In fact, during my 25 hour Offshore sailing voyage I was encouraged with emails and phone calls from the marina tryiing to pin down my arrival so that they could welcome me. Literally as I was idling into the marina a staff of 3 (including the dock master!) was waiting for me at the slip. They tied me off, welcomed me to the marina and had my power and water up and running in no time! I have spent the last 15 years sailing the coast and have been in many, many marinas... This was a first! Once in the marina, it is literally like you are on vacation. The atmosphere, the people, the restaurants and shops... I can't wait to head back next weekend and just take it all in again. Thank you Jason Wheeler and your staff for your warm welcome to Shelter Cove!

Great marina, 2017-03-13
Captain: , Southport,NC (51)

This was our first experience in Shelter Cove Marina but it will not be our last. The marina is basically located in the midlle of the Island. Everything you may need from grocery stores to West Marine is within walking distance or a bike ride. The marina area also has some very good restarants and shops within the complex.
Jason Wheeler the Harbor master was extremely helpful with anything we needed. He also was able to coordinate some boat work we had done while we were there.
The only con to this marina is one that is in the process of being fixed. Its shallow at low tide but the marina is in the process of a dredging project, so this issue will no longer be a factor.
This marina has become our preffered marina in the area and we will return.

Excellent Marina, 2017-03-12
Captain: , Hilton Head Island S.C. (35)

For all the boats heading north shortly Shelter Cove Marina is well worth the 30 minute ride up Broad Creek. I have been at Shelter cove for 2 years now with no plans on moving. The marina has everything you need within walking distance.
We rode out Hurricane Matthew with no damage what so ever. Jason Wheeler (Harbor Master) and his professional crew made all the nessary preparations to the marina and checked every boat to ensure everything was secure.
Jason and his team have worked hard to bring may upgrades to the marina. He has started a program to service all you repair needs. One call to him and the work gets done in a timely and professional maner. He has installed new security gates and a state of the art security camera system. They are installing a new 150 foot dock on the fairway to entend the fuel dock. Even the small things are not overlooked like the beautful flowers at each dock.
The biggest thing that Jason has been working on is the entire harbor is going to be dredged. I draw 4' and it seams I allways in at low tide with no problems at all as long as you stay in the channel your good to go.
This is the best marina for an over night or extended stay. It has everything you need and summer season brings nighty concerts and Tuesday night fireworks every week.

Very Protected-Great Amenities-Clean and Well Managed, 2017-03-12
Captain: , Gallatin, TN (20)

We had our Hatteras 53'-Maggie Mae at Shelter Cove for about 6 months. This is a resort marina with a lot of great retail, shopping, and live music at some venue there nearly every night year around. Jason the dockmaster is one of the best on the East Coast and very supportive before, during and after our stay. There are some great yacht services companies who work in this marina (we suggest Flemming Marine who did some maintenance on our boat and helped us prep for hurricane Matthew)

The Maggie Mae along with many other large vessels survived a DIRECT hit from Hurricaine Matthew in this Marina and had zero damage. In fact, with a couple of exceptions that had nothing to do with the marina, all the boats made it through with minimal or no damage, so the marina is EXTREMELY well protected, and there is basically NO current at any time during the tidal cycles.

For one night transients, it's a good haul (7-8 miles) up broad creek, and to get back to the ICW you've got to run back down the creek, so not sure I would recommend as a "quick" stop off, but once you get up there, it's a great place to be.

So the big challenge the marina faces is depth. Jason and his staff will give you sound guidance, but as a captain to other captains...if you draw what we do, in the 5' range, YOU HAD BETTER COME INTO THIS MARINA AT MID-TIDE OR HIGHER. Some slips (including ours) had to be timed in and out during mid to high...otherwise you're tuning your props. Discuss the depth you draw and timing of tide in the marina, as well as the location of your slip carefully with Jason during the planning for your arrival or you will be tuning your props. Management says they will be dredging, but put no definitive timeline on it.

Our stay at Shelter Cove was a very pleasant one, and you will be hard pressed to find a marina with more of a resort feel. During the Summer there are fireworks (professional grade) every Thursday night at that marina and we enjoyed that greatly.

We hope to be back to Shelter Cove Marina in the near future.

"Upscale" and "friendly" join hands here, 2017-02-10
Captain: , Cambridge, MD (20)

After submerging our dinghy%u2019s outboard in a Broad Creek anchorage three miles downstream, we knew we had to find a marina where we could land and get it drained quickly, although we didn%u2019t know what that would involve. When my wife explained this need to Jason, the dockmaster of Shelter Cove Marina, he said, %u201CI can put you in a slip near some folks who I think can help you out.%u201D Jason was right. Our neighbors on Dock K were kind, knowledgeable, and supportive, matching the friendliness of the Shelter Cove staff themselves. And although our stay cost twice what we normally budget for transient dockage, these people made us glad and grateful for our two nights there. The marina itself is a resort-type facility on resort-oriented Hilton Head Island. Lining two sides of an oxbow off Broad Creek, it is bordered on one side by a Disney resort and on the other by private apartment buildings with high-end shops and restaurants on their first floors. If you are down on the Disney side's Dock K, getting to the marina store, the clean bathrooms, and the free laundry could involve either a very long walk up one side, across a bridge, and down the other, or a very short dinghy ride across the water. Also, in spite of a recent investment in a wifi upgrade, this service remains patchy; the staff know it and continue to pursue solutions. Beyond the marina, you%u2019ll find within walking distance not only a plethora of other restaurants, an arts center and a rather elaborate miniature golf course, but also a New York deli with actual New York roots: beef tongue, corned beef, and chopped liver on the menu, and chocolate-enrobed halvah on the counter near the cashier for dessert. All in all, this marina would make a nice resort vacation base for people with a little money to spend. And although we would not have chosen to dunk our outboard to discover it, we are glad we discovered it nonetheless.

Very nice marina, 2017-01-24
Captain: , Annapolis MD (110)

We stayed at Shelter Cove in our 49' power boat for several months and found it to be a safe, clean, fun marina. There is shopping, restaurants, and a nice marina store. The dock master, Jason was very helpful and accommodating. He helped us find boat services, helped us get our rental car and was just always there when we needed him. This is a nice marina. I would give it 5 stars after the dredging that is scheduled to occur this year.

Management response:
Thanks Jack we appreciate the review. Hope to see you again soon.

One of the Very Best, 2017-01-14
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale, FL (146)

We hadn%u2019t been to Hilton Head by boat since the early 80s so we were looking forward to spending a few days at Shelter Cove after reading the great reviews on AC. Well, we didn't stay a %u201Ccouple of days%u201D. We stayed a month and if we hadn't had to return to Ft Lauderdale because of family stuff, we'd have spent the winter there!
The location on Hilton Head is amazing. Easy walking distance to Whole Foods, Krogers, Belks, TJ Max, and many other stores, restaurants and bars. A longer walk or bike ride to Fresh Market and West Marine. If you have bikes onboard you'll love Hilton Head. 60 miles of paved, off road, bike paths that will let you ride to anyplace on the island and you can access the paths immediately from the Marina property.
The only negative is the WiFi. It is less than optimal. The infrastructure is there; lots of antennas and signal but dropouts are more common than not. The good news is that they are aware of the problem and promise a fix is coming. WiFi is important to us but the issue isn't enough to drop my review to four stars.
Most importantly, the staff is fantastic, very friendly and helpful. Pumpout is at your boat, at your convenience and weatherwise the location is as secure as it gets. Jason runs a great marina and is an all around good guy. We highly recommend Shelter Cove and we will most definitely be back. Thanks for a great stay!!

Management response:
Thank you very much for such a positive review. Its been an up hill battle with the wifi, but we are not giving up. If it gets to hot in Florida, we have a slip waiting on ya.

Perfect Stop, 2016-12-20
Captain: , Deltaville (20)

Justin and Jason were gracious, efficient, and at-the-ready to help with docking and pump-out; they provided us with bikes; laundry was at no extra charge; provisioning was not only easy but the trails to the stores were safe and scenic, and though we are the "anchoring types", our night here was rejuvenating and luxurious. A favorite stop between the Chesapeake and the Bahamas.

Management response:
Thank you for the kind words we love showing the Anchoring Types a good time!

Its all about people and location, 2016-12-06

The combination of highly motivated staff, up-to-date docks and location, location, location makes SCM the premier marina between Charleston and Savannah. And beyond!

Thank you Sandra we are going to miss you guys!

Bo Leonard, Houston, TX, 2016-11-30
Captain: , The Creek, Cayman Island (23)

We rode out Cat 2 Hurricane Matthew which made a direct hit on Hilton Head in Shelter Cove Marina. There was minimal damage to the marina unlike many in the area, some totally destroyed and others will be closed until after the first of the year. Facilities are first class, many places to dine in the marina as well as the area. As many have reported, Jason and his staff are outstanding. We have been in most of the 5 star marinas along the east coast and Shelter Cove rates among the top 5, you will not be disappointed!

Management response:
Thanks BO! We appreciated all your help keeping me informed during the hurricane. You have a beautiful boat and hope to see you again soon!

what a great place, 2016-11-16
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, Fl (320)

SAFERETURNS 65ft Fairline

So we stopped back here on the to south Florida . Everything I said about this place the last time we came through equals before. Jason is a fine young man and knows his work!!!

We have been slowly traveling up the intracoastal from south Florida and I have to say this has been our nicest stop to date. Jason the dock master has been just great along with the ladies and gentlemen in the ships store. Jason not only gave us the tour of the marina but also gave us his cell. He sent a golf cart down to pick us up so we could do laundry. Oh free laundry as well. There are 7 restaurants within a football field of our dock!!!

There is a free shuttle to take you around to another bunch of resturants as well as 3 golf courses. This is really Hilton Head at its finest. And when you have a marina staff that works as hard as these peeps all I can say is thank you for making our time great

Management response:
SAFE RETURNS as usual we enjoyed your company! Thanks for stopping by again and please stay lil longer next time so you can fully enjoy our beautiful island.

Survived Mathew , 2016-11-12
Captain: , Southport, NC (70)

A bit tardy with this review. Shanghai-La spent the night of Mathew in Shelter Cove. Seeing the destruction of other marinas in the area, we were sick waiting to return to the island.
Not a scratch. Surge brought the floating docks to the top of the piling and then some, but we came through bone dry. Live oaks right nearby were stripped of leaves from the direct hit of high winds. Jason and his team are just great! What a wonderful location! They also now have a new pump-out boat that comes to you at the dock.

Management response:
THANK YOU FOR WEATHERING THE STORM WITH US. WE ARE VERY PLEASED WITH THE OUT COME OF MATHEW. WE ALSO ARE VERY PROUD OF OUR NEW HONEY WAGON! THANKS TO SCOTT MIESTER AND THE SOUTH CAROLINA DNR FOR MAKING THE PURCHASE OF THE PUMP OUT BOAT POSSIBLE WITH THE CLEAN MARINA GRANT! WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YALL AGAIN AND APPRECIATE THE KIND WORDS. THANKS

Great marina!, 2016-10-23
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (450)

After the carnage of 'Matthew', we stayed here at Shelter Cove for four nights and could not have been happier! Jason, Deb, Fuego and the rest of the crew were professional, courteous and downright friendly. Jason even came out to escort us in during the full moon low tide. Docks, restrooms, and store were neat and clean, the location is sheltered and there is lots to do right here in Shelter Cove.
Thank you!
Peter & Anne on ARIES

Management response:
THANKS FOR STOPPING BY WE REALLY ENJOYED HAVING YOUR BEAUTIFUL FLEMING SITTING ON THE FRONT ROW. WE REALLY APPRECIATE THE REVIEW AND GLAD WE COULD SERVE YOU. BE SAFE AND COME BACK AND SEE US.

Excellent Marina, 2016-08-24
Captain: , Red Bank NJ (10)

We really enjoy the facilities and hospitality at Shelter Cove, Jason and his team have done a great job making us feel right at home, we enjoy all the great restaurants within walking distance from the boat, and the short bike ride to the wonderful beach. We can't wait to get back, and we have even extended our stay for an extra month or so. Dont miss this one... Ken Ryan

Management response:
THANKS KEN WE HAVE ENJOYED HAVING YOU IN OUR MARINA AND THANKS FOR THE KIND WORDS.

Awesome place!, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Hilton Head Island SC (10)

Have been boating for over 40 yrs from the Florida Keys to Canada and Shelter Cove is one of the best places to be. Dockmaster Jason Wheeler is superb: knowlegble, friendly, responsive and extremenly profressional ... one of the best I've experienced! The marina is surrounded by terrific amenities and features a beautful setting. The staff is most supportive and and the facilities are top notch ...

Good Marina, 2016-06-16
Captain: , Aiken (30)

I kept my boat here for several years before moving it to Charleston. The marina was always very clean safe a secure. I didnt have a lot of interaction with the personnel there until my boat caught fire a year and a half ago. Jason responded quickly and secured my boat until I arrived from out of town. There is a very long no wake zone to get in and out of this marina, but once you arrive, everything you need is there.

Good as it gets, 2016-06-06
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale (131)

We are a week into our summer stay at Shelter Cove and already we can see this is one of the best marinas we have encountered on the east coast. Jason (Dockmaster) and his staff are friendly and on top of all the details. Docks and facilities are in great shape, current is minimal and docks are well laid out. Plenty of routine maintenance service is available and the 'village' surrounding the marina has restaurants and shopping with grocery and west marine within a mile. Kayak, paddleboard and bikes are all available to rent on site. Cable TV on dock and free washer / dryer for guest use. Fuel dock and pump out have easy access. Also great spot to have visitors with condos available to rent within 100 yards of the marina. All in all a solid 5 star resort / marina... Would be a 6 if the scale went that high!

Worth the trip off the ICW!, 2016-04-28
Captain: , Occoquan VA (60)

My wife and I were looking for the best place to stay on our boat on Hilton Head Island for the winter. We checked out every marina that would take our large trawler and settled on Shelter Cove Marina because of the convenience of the nearby grocery store, numerous fine restaurants that were open year round, and the ease of getting to the central places on the island. We checked the Active Captain reports on Shelter Cove Marina and there weren?t a lot of previous reports that you could confidently decide to stay there with. But after talking to a few people and driving down to visit them all in person, we decided to take a shot and we are happy we did. We spent six months there on and off the boat and could not have been happier with Jason Wheeler (dock master) and the staff at the marina. I needed some work done and Jason coordinated it with me, I needed some washings done which he took charge of and helped see to it and when I needed some extra work that took a fair amount of effort and coordination Jason was helpful in letting me know when that work got started and when people were working on the boat when I was not there. So certainly come to Shelter Cove Marina for the convenience, the central location, the restaurants, the convenience of the new beautiful Kroger grocery store, but be welcomed home by the staff led by Jason Wheeler and know that you will have made the right choice.

To give you an example of great service, we were going to be leaving early in the morning and I decided not to move the boat the previous day to get a pump out and I told Jason that. Unbeknownst to me he made arrangements with local pumpout boat to come and pump out my boat, saving me a lot of time and hassle. That is the type of support I?ve come to expect from Shelter Cove, and it is why we renewed to come back to the marina next winter.

We are in love with Shelter Cove, 2016-04-27
Captain: , Denver, CO (22)

This is the best marina we have ever kept our boat in. The docks are kept spotless and the internet and cable are very good. It is just the right size and it is so fun to have the restaurants and shops so close by. We ride our bikes everywhere as there is a great grocery store nearby and a Belks. The service here is phenomenal. They have a dockmaster who is extraordinary, Jason Wheeler. He has an app that knows when we leave and when we return and is always waiting to catch a line. They deliver our amazon packages to our boat, bring us ice if we need it and watch the boat very, very carefully if we are gone. Jason watches over all of the work that gets done on this boat. We are in love with this marina and Jason.

Shelter Cove Competes for BEST on East Coast, 2016-04-25
Captain: , Greenwich Bay, RI (111)

I have run 3 different vessels up and down the east coast over the last 10 years, from the Bay of Fundy to Turks & Caicos. We typically stay in New England in the Summer and Florida or Bahamas in the Winter. This year we decided to change it up and stay in Hilton Head where we have some investment properties. We looked at a number of HH marinas and chose Shelter Cove after working with Jason over the phone. Our experience has been that most marinas will give you a good "Sales Pitch" and when you arrive, service is a crap-shoot.

My wife and I have been thrilled with Shelter Cove and the Services that Jason Wheeler Manages for us. From weekly boat washing, HVAC issues, bottom cleaning, he handles the managment of your vessel. He is currently overseeing varnish work and some deck repairs for us this spring. We are so thrilled with this marina that we just bought a condo overseeing the marina. Whether it is an overnight stay, or a seasonal slip, I believe you will find no better service on the east coast.

Great People/Facility/Service, 2016-03-31
Captain: , Philadelphia (10)

Dockmaster Jason Wheeler is the best friend your family and boat could ever have. He gets the concept that marina success is about satisfying boat owners first and foremost. We interviewed three facilities on HHI for long term dockage with Jason promising to out service the others, having used both the north and south docks as convenient transient dockage. After a two week stay, his commitment to our experience far exceeded any expectations. He is always on the docks looking to help for any need be it boat, activity, supplies, just name it! The facility itself is quiet, deep at our slip, convenient with central island location, excellent restaurants and shopping a short walk away, even a free huge laundry facility. Jason is now managing service projects while we are ashore and is in constant contact on progress status. Looking forward to return and most satisfied with SC as our choice.

Keeps on getting better, 2016-03-18
Captain: , Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH (400)

Shelter Cove, considered by many to be the premier marina within 30 miles, is again working to improve the boating experience. They are currently in the propress of installing new electric posts on selected docks. The marina and surrounding area typifies the meaning of Location, Location, Location. This is why we are long term live aboard.

great spot with great service, 2016-01-08
Captain: , Sag Harbor, NY (10)

Shelter Cove has excellent amenities and is well suited to yachts up to 100' or more. It is definitely worth the detour off ICW: many good restaurants, excellent docks, bicycle, kayak and small boat rentals.

The service here is exceptional. Dockmaster Jason Wheeler is knowledgable, efficient and super accommodating. I am a professional delivery captain and plan to make this a regular stop en route to and from Southern Florida and the Bahamas.

Top notch in every respect!, 2015-11-28
Captain: , Shelter Cove Marina (20)

We just completed a trip bringing our boat from Chattanooga, TN to our new home away from home at Shelter Cover Marina in Hilton Head. Over the six week journey (with a couple of weeks off here and there) we stayed at literally dozens of marinas on the Florida panhandle, the Gulf Coast and the East Coast. We stayed in some newer marinas, some on the blue green waters of the Gulf, some closer to the keys, some that are even ranked as ?the finest? or ?the best? by this ranking or rating service or another - but in our view none that offer the full range of amenities, location and service we discovered at Shelter Cover

Not only is Shelter Cover just that - ?sheltered? and protected from the wind, it is so incredibly convenient for those who like to walk or bike. Six or seven great bars and/or restaurants right in the marina, a short bike ride to a brand new mega Kroger and even more shops, bars and restaurants - another short bike ride to either Fresh Market or Whole Foods, even a liquor store and a West Marine. It?s about a mile and half bike ride to a dog friendly beach. Hilton Head has bike paths everywhere!

Location and amenities aside, the best thing we?ve found about Shelter Cove thus far is the service. Jason Wheeler has been amazing from the time we first visited the marina and reserved a slip almost a year ago. He helped us find the perfect slip for our boat, even helped us arrange for dedicated internet installation while were away for Thanksgiving. When we needed a captain to help us make the last leg of the trip in rough seas, he found a great, experienced local captain who was familiar with the AICW to help bypass the rough conditions.

Jason has gone above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home. So far we couldn?t be happier about our decision to make the long journey from Chattanooga to Hilton Head and Shelter Cove. We highly recommend Shelter Cover for permanent dockage, and I couldn?t image a better place for a transient stay.

WOW!!! What a great Place, 2015-11-24
Captain: , Waterloo, New York (10)

We decided to go to Shelter Cove because we talked with the harbormaster and he said the word service three times. The marina is a good long ways off the sound but it is well worth it. It is close to wonderful shopping, and resturants. The place is clean and well maintained. There is even free laundry. This is by far the best marina we have been in over the last 53 days on the water. The harbormaster, Jason Wheeler, is a very talented and hard working guy and everything he said was true and accurate.

We liked it so much..., 2015-11-11
Captain: , Boston, MA (35)

We decided to make Shelter Cove our base for the next 12 months and signed a long term dock agreement today. We met with Jason Wheeler who gave us a great rate matching the rate from the Marina we had intended to stay at in Georgia. Jason showed us around taking us out in his skiff to see our slip and other slips that were available. There is shopping and restaurants right at the Marina and Whole Foods and Kroger are a few blocks away. Hilton Head has bike paths all over the island which we love, and of course beautiful beaches and fantastic dining. We feel Shelter Cove meets our needs and more as we plan to leave the boat there for a 6 month European trip next year and Jason assured us that we could have any boat service necessary such as checking the interior of the boat weekly, bottom scrubbing etc taken care of while we were gone. We look forward to our time there and move into our slip tomorrow after 3 months and over 1200 miles of cruising the East Coast and ICW.

Great Marina!, 2015-10-15
Captain: , Charleston, SC (74)

We found Shelter Cove to live up to its name. We arrived 9/30/15, day before hurricane Joaquin & had no worries. The current inside the marina is very mild, making docking a pleasure- not to mention kayaking. Jason is a great dock master & made us feel welcome. We were the first ones to use the new free washers & dryers, a big plus! We took advantage of the Happy Hour at the many restaurants surrounding the marina during our 2 week stay. We look forward to making a return trip to Shelter Cove Marina.

Nice docks, and the staff is helpful. New shopping facilities within walking distance including a large Kroger.

Nice place to spend a week, 2015-05-13
Captain: , New York (251)

Stayed here during the 2015 Heritage Golf Tournament. Nice large marina with very friendly staff.
Several nice resturants, well protected marina, nice dock mates as well. The inner docks get shallow on low tides so try to get an outer one.
Only con was ridiculously expensive fuel. I made a 20 minuite trip up the island and saved almost $1 a gallon

great location, 2014-03-08
Captain: , palm harbor (170)

We spent 3 months here this winter and really enjoyed our stay. This marina is a bit away from the sound but it is protected and we felt that the boat was plenty safe in this protected marina. Tommy, Pam and Ron at the harbormasters office made us feel like part of the family and were very helpful. The docks are in great shape with 30/50 elec, water and cable at the dock. There is some skinny water on entrance in low tide and at negative lows we were sitting on our bottom in the slip. There are lots of condos and a disney resort surrounding the marina but during the winter it was very quiet. You will get a pass from the harbor master that allows you access to Palmetto Dunes across the street which has golf courses, restaurants, beach and is a large amount of bike trails. Just a note the WiFi here is pretty bad consider alternate method. verizon service is 4 bars. We will return.

So far so good., 2013-11-18
Captain: , Galena, MD (80)

We came in yesterday at 1 1/2 hours after low tide. We had at least 10 feet of water to markers 18 and 19 and then no less than 6 feet into the marina. We are staying for the winter and staff is very helpful.

Amazing Marina but don't arrive at dead low tide!, 2013-09-13
Captain: , Charleston, SC (75)

We got a late start mad thus arrived way later than planned. As we rounded the last marker (identifying the entry to the marina) the low water alarms started going off. We draft 3.5 feet and I think I actually saw below 4'! We spent a few hours out in the channel waiting for the tide to rise so we could get in.

Fun For A Weekend, 2013-06-30

Shelter Cove Marina is tucked into a small shopping center/condo complex. There are a number of boutiques to browse as well as several restaurants. Hilton Head Island Arts Center is across the parking lot. Broadway style productions are staged at the theatre several times a year. Advance tickets (http://www.artshhi.com/index.htm) are needed as they sell out regularly. There is a bike path that leads under the main road providing access to walking & biking trails. It is about a 20-minute bike ride to the beach.
As noted by other reviewers entrance can be shallow. It is helpful to come in on a rising tide. Our boat draws 4 feet.

Shallow Entrance Today!, 2012-12-11
Captain: , Roseville, MN (362)

Tried to get into here today but depth meter was saying 3.5 ft. This was after buoys 18 and 19. Was slightly rising tide. No desire to run aground. Was shallow water beyond R8. Green 13 was missing. These are private aids. They were kind in recommending another marina.

Nice marina, but spread out, 2012-11-23
Captain: , Lewis Creek, Md (1264)

The marina as with most Disney facilities was clean and nice. My only reservations were the need to use the condo association's public rest rooms which were always very clean depending on time of day and the long walk if you wanted to use a shower.

Great Restaurants close by, 2012-07-15
Captain: , Palm Coast FL (20)

Six restaurants in the complex around the marina, all pretty good. Muscians outside in several restaurants. Free shuttle service to grocery, beach and almost to West Marine. Friendly staff, clean shower and restrooms. The marina rates make more sense to stay for two weeks instead of four days. Very protected marina and docks in good shape. You have to share parking places with Disney Time Share so a pain if you have a car. Great Fireworks every Tuesday.

Nice facility, but a ways up the river with no wakes, 2012-07-09
Captain: , Charlotte Harbor, FL (1548)

I think that this is a nice stop. Fireworks on tuesday nights in the summer. Shopping and restaurants nearby. Can bike to the beach.
Official pool sucked though and was a long way away.

Nice Facilities and well protected Marina, 2011-11-02
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (675)

Most expensive and least freindly Marina I stayed at in a trip from NC to FL. Facilities are great but local satff pretty cold. Not very helpful in getting a ride to West Marie for a part I needed. Just not real welcoming.

Great place to leave a boat, 2011-02-24
Captain: , Bristol, RI (776)

We left the boat here for two months with occasional visiits. Extremely well protected. Squeaky clean. Lots of restaurants on the docks.(although most close in the January and early February). Many, many restaurants within three miles or so.

This is a very big condo/timeshare complex that is mostly empty off season. Rental cars are also cheap off season and the Hilton Head airport is 10 minutes a day. All commercial flights are US Air to Charlotte. About six flights a day.

The marina office recommended a diver and a wax guy who both did great jobs at reasonable prices.

Very good Verizon signal and only so-so AT&T.

Great stop, 2011-01-29

Stayed here for New Year's Eve and the place is very nice. Great docks and staff. Very quite for the holiday but found some good food.

What a great place!, 2010-11-08
Captain: , Newport,RI (178)

Arrived for a week, staying the winter! Every thing so close. So many choices for Golf, if that is your thing. Marina staff, the best. Pam, dock master has been here for 22 years and is vast knowledge of all things needed in this area. Very protected, from all points of the compass. Walking and bike paths all over the place. So many biking paths, I thought I was in Holland again. If you like to bike, no need for a car to secure any thing or eat in 50 different places.

Easy beautiful walk to the beach (1.75 miles) on a "walking trail". Pool and tennis along the beach walk for marina users.

All and all, not more one could ask for.

Hilton Head's 2nd best place, 2010-10-15
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

Next to the extremely high priced Harbourtown, it is well worth the ride up the creek to here. They also are pricey, albiet not as bad as other places. West Marine is walkable from here, although a fair piece.

Great place to enjoy HHI, 2010-03-22
Captain: , Key West, FL (748)

We have now stayed here for a total of three months, during two a two year period of cruising and have become very familiar with the area. This is a great location for anything that you want to do on HHI. For the majority of your activities, you will easily be able to walk or ride a bike on the protected and landscaped bike trails. This includes shopping of all types, church, movies, and even the airport (which is remarkably well-served by USAirways and Delta). The character of the marina compared to Harbortown is much more relaxed, residential and less touristy; yet there are shops here as well (and a mall and two very nice shopping centers nearby for the more serious shopping, including a West Marine). Restaurants of all varieties are also nearby (Charlie's for excellent food in an upscale setting; Smokehouse for great ribs, Sea Shack for the best Low Country food you'll have anywhere in a somewhat "Soup Nazi" atmosphere). The only negatives that prevent a five star rating: No courtesy car (though we rent using Priceline for $15/day); You'll be on the Disney side of the marina most likely and they do not let dogs there at all making for a 15 minute walk to do any dog "business"; Disney also will not let you park for more than 20 minutes at the dock also necessitating a very long walk (hey, walking is good for you!); and the pump out boat no longer comes here at all, so you must get underway for a pump out (and I highly recommend that you do it at high tide to somewhat shorten the time required). Finally, it is a good idea to watch the tides if you draw over 5 feet, as the low low can be less than six at various locations around the docks.

Excellent sheltered location, 2010-02-03
Captain: , Bermuda (219)

We stopped for one night and ended up coming back and leaving our boat here for the winter. The marina is very sheltered with good floating docks. Marina staff are experienced and helpful. Close to supermarkets and restaurants. Only thing missing is a swimming pool.

LUXURY MARINA, 2008-11-12
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (142)

A little (6 Miles) out of the way but 1st class marina. 4 or 5nice restaurants on marina walkway. Can be a long walk to showers/office. Public restrooms in several surrounding buildings. Total wind protection from all directions.

One of the best!, 2007-08-19
Captain: , Medina, OH (3)

I've been fortunate enough to spend a month or so here on the way south and on the way north each spring and fall and I love it. It is safe, sheltered, convenient and has very nice docks.
