Reviews for Shell Morgan's Landing
Best option for a dock in this area, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (552)

Tied up after hours in steady rain. 50 amp worked fine. Nice folks in the office, both on the phone before our arrival and when we went to pay the next morning. Strong fish processing odor the next morning in foggy conditions - must have been the wind direction because there was no odor the night before. Quoted $1.71 for day's diesel but we didn't need any fuel. ICW traffic is way down with the oil price so very little problem with wakes during the night. Lots of areas to walk the dog.

Friendly Staff & Great Place to Spend the night, 2016-05-28
Captain: , Thibodaux, La. (20)

Great place to spend the night. We were fortunate enough to arrive early and were able to use the 50 amp service. $20/night. Water available at the fuel dock. Plenty of grass to walk your dog. Highly recommend you dock with your bow toward the ICWW because of the waves and utilize plenty fenders. This is a high trafffic area. The 5 stars are based on it being clean, easy access because it's located on the ICWW and the people (including the locals) are very friendly.

Great place and Young's Grocery, 2016-05-02
Captain: , Houston, TX (40)

We stayed here waiting out 4 days worth of storms. Good place, good price, great people. Have plenty of fenders. We also discovered Young's Grocery down they road (337-893-3845). They will come and pick you up and take you back to the boat so you can grocery shop. Also great people.

Super fuel price, 2016-04-23
Captain: , Rockport, tx (154)

This is really just a fuel dock with side ties for two boats. Dockage rates are resonable, $20.00 with electricity. The fuel price can't be beat, $1.69 per gal. for diesel. And, the folks here are really friendly and helpful. Also, there is a newly rebuilt, well stocked grocery store within one block with very resonable prices. I never miss stopping here.

Great People, 2016-03-26
Captain: , Kemah, tx (101)

This is not the marina you want if you are looking for resort facilites, but in this area there are none of those. It is a great place to stop though and has great fuel prices. You could not ask for nicer or more helpful people. On the run from Morgan City to Mermentau River this is the perfect stop. Nice to walk the dog. We have been here once before. We think it is a great spot.

Good Fuel Prices, 2016-01-01
Captain: , Absarokee Mt (1228)

Usaully one of the cheaper fuel stops. Small Grocery store just east. Water and 50 amp electric. Good docks, Need lots of fenders on the sheet piling and timber docks. 50 amp has one outlet, yellow, directly across from the marina store. Seems to be first come, first served. Talked to the manager and he said "we have never turned any away and have other tie ups available if needed" I suggest calling ahead to get an idea of what is available because it is unmanned after 6pm. Opens at 6 AM.

Great place for fuel and a overnight stop., 2015-11-24
Captain: , Freeport Texas (81)

The People are very friendly and helpful. We came in after dark and everyone was gone for the day. There are 2 spots just east of the fuel dock that have electricity. But really you can tie up anywhere you can find space, just don't block anyone in.

Decent stayover attached to land, 2015-08-13
Captain: , Naples, Fl (171)

We stayed the night tied up to the side, large corrugated metal pier wall. The 50 amp electricity gave us reversed polarity. So, no power. As we were late and the skeeters were out in force, we ducked inside anyways. Nice people, fuel, power, so so slip. Noisy, smelly (gas/diesel) neighbours. But, the only slip available in a large area. We did over 100 miles to get here from Sabine Lake.

Friendliest people I have ever met!, 2015-08-10
Captain: , fort worth, tx (71)

The previous reviews say it all. Super friendly people working here. Great price on Diesel. Maxie Pierce grocery is a short walk away, but the prices reflect how far you are from civiliation! This place is an oasis in the swamp. Right on the ICW but very little wake noticed.

Quick stop for fuel, 2015-07-23
Captain: , Kemah, TX (612)

Excellent service. Highly recommended! Thanks guys! Reasonable diesel rate. Easy in and out

shower! comfy & convenient right along GIWW, 2015-05-22
Captain: , Kitty Hawk, NC (290)

coming eastbound look for red office with waterway nook to your port side. westbound would have clear view. long yellow bulkhead across from office and fuel docks. 3 electrical outlets along. we stayed stern to GIWW with our bow to red MV miss Bernice and had no discomforts with a spring line. not much wake anyway. office closes right at 18:00 acceptable to pull in later if there is room, but no overnighting tied to fuel dock. female restrooms were kept locked and opened upon our arrival and freshly cleaned! block ice available. low prices on fuel. excellent hospitality. full service on wifi but he had forgotten the password! exceptional convenience store with great breakfast/lunch counter opens 5:00. huge selection of provisions! hardware store also close walk. overall great stop in 28' sailboat. depth 8'

Great fuel prices and nice to be at a dock, 2015-01-14
Captain: , Corpus Christi,Tx (1569)

Nice to have electricity. We draw 4.8 feet and came in on a half rising tide and had no issues. But with a north wiind and at low tide, we were the inboard slip and aground. A sailboat behind us which drew 5.5 and was also aground. At midtide, we were able to leave - so be advised. Very nice people and always good stop between Morgan City and Lake Charles.

needed fuel, water and stores, bad., 2015-01-03
Captain: , Mandeville LA (20)

Really friendly people, Tony Morgan is as friendly as can be. And Salina at the store drove us back to the boat because it was raining! A real piece of old Americana.

One of the better stops in area, 2014-12-12
Captain: , CapnPMF (100)

Easy to get fuel--cheap..and pleasant...dont expect much--this is the bayou and a very commercial area. Be sure to use dockboads and lots of fenders and dock bow out for waves.

Yes they have diesel, 2014-08-11
Captain: , Corpus Christi (301)

Somehow AC is stating that there is no diesel here. They are a fuel dock and sell diesel to work boats. Their accommodations are few but for them to stick a few power outlets for cruisers traveling through this desolate part of the state makes me want to rate them high.

Good stop between weather fronts, 2014-03-12
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (245)

Given the location as a very busy work hub for the oil rigs, we were fortunate enough to be the only pleasure boat tied up and used the 50 amp service. $20/night. Water available at the fuel dock - gas $3.50/gallon cash. Very friendly, hard working people. A good two days between weather fronts if you have to stay somewhere.
The 5 stars based on it being exactly as we expected and the staff the best people you could find.

OK for an overnight in the ICW, 2014-01-29
Captain: , San Marcos, TX (865)

Stayed here one night (12/2/13) after a long day from the Calcasieu anchorage. Arrived after dark after being delayed at the L/B Lock. Many lights on shore so it was difficult to spot this place. Slips were taken, so we tied to the fuel dock. Very shallow entry - 6 ft. Heavy traffic in the ICW made it very rolly - recommend fender boards. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Good fuel at a good price. Grocery nearby had limited selection.

Cheapest Fuel Around, 2013-12-04
Captain: , Boyd, Texas (390)

$3.38 for diesel. Very helpful staff. Fuel stop only for us.

ICW Rest Stop, 2013-08-19
Captain: , Galveston, TX (599)

Friendly and helpful staff. Fuel, water, ice, basic supplies, available during the work day. Showers and heads available all night. Maxie Pierce Grocery opens at 5am, serves food till 1pm, and stays open for a fair selection of groceries and fishing gear till 5 or 6pm.

The bulkhead we tied to is corrugated iron with 4 inch pipes for bits. Shore power is available at 30A and 50A, if you can tie up in the right spot. Limited space.

The weather and traffic show no mercy, so fender accordingly.
And there are no amusements for miles. This is ONLY a rest stop.

Good fuel and grocery stop, 2013-05-06
Captain: , Scottsdale, Az (184)

We have stopped here twice. The first time we got groceries at the nearby grocery store and ate lunch at their take-out lunch counter. Tasty! The second time we bought diesel at a reasonable price.

Not a Good Place, 2013-04-19
Captain: , Port Isabel, TX (60)

We had read a lot of good reviews about Shell Morgan. Unfortunately, I can not concur with them.
We called ahead to let them know we were coming. Don't bother with VHF...as we were told "We have one, but it doesn't work." It sure would have been helpful if they had one. It would have avoided the incident we had if communication other than shouting was available. As we came in we were pointed by the lady who was working to go to the transient dock. A local fishing vessel was at the commercial fuel dock. He was stern to the dock and, unknown to us, he had left the engine in reverse creating a prop wash that pushed our 36' Sloop right into the corner of the dock, damaging the fiberglass at the bow. There was no response from the two employees from Shell Morgan who were standing with the vessel Captain. We tried a second time and it happened yet again. That was when they started shouting about allowing the fishing vessel to leave and pointed us to go to the fuel dock. The man helped us secure the lines, but afterwards they made mention about not understanding why we were at the fuel dock if we were not going to purchase fuel. I guess they forgot they directed us there. We paid for one night and the man did help us secure at the transient dock. But, quite honestly, I have not run across two more unfriendly people since we had left Texas. We didn't get much sleep there, either, with the wake from the GIWW of passing vessels and a fishing vessel tied up for the night with his generator going all night long. Needless to say, we will not be going back to Shell Morgan -ever. We will go the extra mile(s) to North Pier in Delcambre where they take hospitality and their guests more seriously.
PS. If I could I would not give Shell Morgan any stars.

Good stop, great service, hard bulkhead., 2013-02-28
Captain: , houston, tx (393)

These folks offer service. They care. This is really the only place to stop around this area . Fuel prices are very fair. The slips are essentially a side tie across the small fairway from the fuel dock. They are steel and very unforgiving. They had recently been painted yellow and left nice markings on the fenders. We expereineced some tide and wake action, so fender and tie for both. The shoal area is soft and can be powered through upon exit if nedded. The small grocery store (within sight and walking distance) is well stocked.

Good reliable stop, 2012-11-11
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

Fuel was $3.41 cash or credit. Shell Morgan is obviously more commercial but they definitely strive to accomodate recreational boats, even small boats pulling up for a few gallons of gas. The guys pumping our fuel also helped us dock on a very windy day. Watch out for shoaling directly across from the fuel dock area. Convenient grocery store a short walk away. Not much else to do here though except watch the helicopters ferrying back and forth from the airport close by to the offshore platforms.

Sunday.... Sunday.... Sunday, 2012-10-25
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (995)

This is a late review. Stay date was Sunday 10/14 and it seems that everything, everywhere is closed. Got in late afternoon from Houma heading West. Dock was closed as was the Grocery store near by so no food available. Dock is on the East side across from the fuel dock with, luckily for us, a 50amp connection. Be sure you have your fenders ready as the dock is a little rough. There is a basic bathroom and shower over by the fuel dock. There are also 2 Crew Boats that dock there and they need room to get in and out. There was a Sailboat docked on the GIWW with no power and they had to tie up to Pilings that were 20 feet away from the dock. Very rough ride for them all night as the Commercial Traffic is constant and, sadly for them, the large shrimping fleet was heading out and pushed them against the dock. In morning the Crew boats start early (6am). Moved to the fuel dock and the crew there is friendly and great!

Friendly helpful people, 2012-09-22
Captain: , Houston, TX (114)

Only spent one night, getting in late and leaving early, but a good nights sleep.

Accommodating Staff, 2012-07-20
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (170)

The people there are great! As a sailboater, we don't buy much fuel but they assisted us like we were taking on 10,000 gallons! Space for 2 transient bulkhead spaces with power, but water only available at fuel dock.

Good stop on the trip west, 2012-07-09
Captain: , Reedville, VA (688)

Stayed one night. Even though there was a large anoint of river traffic, sleeping was good. Staff very helpful.

Grreat gas prices, 2012-04-15
Captain: , Port OConnor, Tx (628)

Got in just before closing. Very very windy. The crew came out to help us tie up. Got fuel and one of their transite slips for 2 nights. We'll stop again on our way back through

Convenient Stop, 2012-03-07
Captain: , Kemah Texas (90)

Basic but very friendly. We had a strong wind and current working against us and they come out to help catch lines. Easy walk to grocery store/deli which is quite complete. Filled diesel and water in the morning and they were right there to help. I was extremely impressed with the professionalism shown

Great fuel and great service, 2012-02-25
Captain: , Nashville (547)

The quality of the diesel was excellent. Yes, there is a difference in diesel and Shell Morgan has great fuel... probably because they move thousands of gallons a day.

The people were as helpful and courteous as any place, except maybe Lu Lu's.

The grocery store down the road had stopped selling short order food, but the cook fired up the grill and made us burgers and po' boys. Thanks ladies!

My next trip through there will be planned around a stop here.

Intercoastal City fuel dock - Shell Morgan's, 2011-11-30
Captain: , Houston, Texas (63)

Shell Morgan's is one of the few places in the area to get diesel fuel. They do have two transient slips with power, first-come-first-serve, but they do make room for you somewhere without power if you need to overnight. This is mostly comercial with not too 'yacht-friendly' dockage and lots of commercial vessel traffic. The dockage is not protected from this heavy traffic. The grocery store is a two-block walk and they do have some deli-style hot meals. The mosquitoes are plentiful and very friendly.
Note: the hardware store is now closed.

Just what I expected, 2011-09-22
Captain: , Crestview, FL (170)

We docked here for two nights on August 11, 2011. I had read the reviews, and after docking at Stingaree in Texas, was prepared with our bumper placement. Groceries are close by, dockage is cheap, showers are Spartan, but as a bonus the staff was very friendly and helpful. There is also a hardware store across the street for repair materials if you need them.

Put out all your big fenders, 2011-07-15
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (323)

Showers spartan, but appreciated. Steel walls for dockage. Good to have grocery store in walking distance, though merchandise lacking - virtually no fresh produce. Good place to get fuel. Helpful people. Only $20/night.

Still a great place for fuel, 2011-06-11
Captain: , Canyon Lake, TX (346)

We stopped here twice in the last week. Got fuel both times. Friendly people. There is now a shower/restroom behind the store and across the driveway. Hot and cold water feels great after a long time in the Gulf. Still $20 a night for a slip with electricity. But only two slips available.

Good Stopping Place, 2011-02-12
Captain: , Kemah, TX (188)

You can't beat their diesel prices. We paid $3.11 per gallon. We spent two night here waiting for a strong cold front/ice storm to pass. They have a long dock with 2 each 30 amp and 1 each 50 amp. Watch your water depth coming in. We saw 4 feet at mid tide. They also have a small dock with no electric. No showers, restrooms or pumpout. You should call to check for availability. Use all your fenders as the commercial traffic throws big waves. The commercial traffic slows a little at night. Maxie Pierce grocery is a small walk away and there is nothing else within walking distance. Try the shrimp poboys at Maxie Pierce. Worth spending the night.

Stayed 6/26/10, 2010-06-28
Captain: , Louisiana (264)

This is our 4th stay here. The last two times we took on fuel. I put enough in the tanks at Kemah to get us here. Paid $3.30 there, $2.49 here. Tony helped us with our needs. BLOCK ICE! Tidal range is close to two feet so be sure to allow for this with these old beat up docks. Maxie Pierces Grocery is back up and operating. It is a pretty good walk- so be sure to walk across the field and go through the gate near the store, not around the fence. You can also dinghy there.

Superbowl weekend, 2010-02-20
Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (998)

Arrived 1215 hours, needing fuel. Place was closed but locals sait that is not usually the case. Methinks it was a combination of Superbowl and Mardi Gras. We tied in one of the two transient slips and enjoyed the Sunday. We refueled next morning at 0615 and was treated very well even though we took on only 35 gallons. This a a busy area so late arrival might find not tie up. Lots of tow traffic and background lighting will keep you alert. Deploy your fenders to prevent the concrete cap rail on the bulkead from leaving reminders of this stop

Fuel Dock, 2009-12-26
Captain: , Dallas, TX (726)

Made a stop here travelling from Houston to Ft. Myers in March 2009. It is not a marina it is a fuel dock. Diesel was 0.30 cheaper here than anwhere else we stopped. Spent the night tied to the concrete wall opposite the fuel dock with lots of fenders, but you cant beat the price $20.00 or $0.43 / ft in my case. The wall is about 100' and there were two of us the night we stayed, we were stern to stern. As I recall there were 2 plugs one 50A one 30A. Staff very helpful

4 December 2009, 2009-12-06
Captain: , Spragge (240)

Great value.
Hardware store across the road was hammered by Rita and is gradually being restocked.
Grocery store (200M east) had a wide selection, but not too much fresh produce.
There are washrooms and showers, albeit very plain.

More than they ever wanted to be., 2009-04-20
Captain: , Fairhope, AL (167)

This place ISN'T a marina. It is a commercial fuel stop, that is completely content to sell to private boaters. It is hard to call them docks; call them two spots on the wall. The two spots on the wall do have each a 30 amp plug. Bring your own fenders. It is a tough wall, but hey, what do you expect for $20 bucks?

The guys couldn't be nicer. They take all your favorite cards, and their diesel is CHEAP! $1.71 today, April 20, 2009, and they are very nice folks.
There is a 7/11 of sorts within walking distance and Mr. Morgan had all the Charts for LA.
