Reviews for Shallowbag Bay Marina
Bag it. Don't bother., 2016-11-16
Captain: , Seabrook, NH (112)

We tried to stay here after reading the "glowing reviews" on Active Captain. WOW. I went SO far out of my way to even get in contact with somone because no one returned my calls, or my emails. I did some online sleuthing and figured out that the manager of the adjacent restaurant also owns/manages the marina, so I called the restaurant and left amessage for him at the restaurant.

He finally called me back, and gave me a cell # to call when I got close. However, when we got there, the # didn't work.

We had winds out of the N NE, so when we tied up to the fuel dock to try to find someone to help us, we were getting the $h^t kicked out of us. No one was around. It was a total $h^t show.

By that time, it was later in the afternoon, we decided to cut and run, and called the Manteo Waterfront Marina, just on the other side of the little bay. It was AWESOME. Loved it. Highly recommend it over Shallow Bag Bay.

Glad we found this marina, 2016-07-12

We loved our two-night stay here, because of the floating docks for our 22-ft C-Dory and the pool. Since we don't have A/C we look for marinas that have a pool and/or an A/C lounge. This marina has both. Also, we liked the availability of good restaurants we can walk to.

Update on a great place, 2015-06-06
Captain: , New Bern, NC (476)

This is a great place to stay. Echo what everyone else said. Pete is trying real hard to make this wonderful place for cruisers to visit. Pump out is now working.
Private bouys mark the way into the marina from Red 10 with good depth. Entrance into marina is small opening so if wind is blowing hard use extreme caution.

Week at Outer Banks Marina, 2014-06-16
Captain: , Cruising (112)

Pete Davidson was a very helpfull dockmaster. He advised us of the Manteo Channel video on the internet which was very educational for severe shoaling conditions. We draw five feet and never saw less than .5 feet under our keel following the video instruction. After we cleared the Shallowbag bay Channel Pete guided us into the Marina, and did an excellent job securing our lines.

The marina has a very nice pool and hot tub, and they provide complimentary bicycles.

Mention Active Captain and receive a twenty percent discount on dockage. We are 49 ft. and stayed a week for $325 including power.

Very quiet compared to the downtown marina, and the view was great. On-site restaurant, other restaurants, and town within walking/biking distance. We will return.

No Pump Out. Paperwork for the pumpout is in process.

Great place to stay and great dockmaster, 2014-06-05

This is great alternative to going the intracoastal route. And the dockmaster Pete is a great guy. They also give a great active captain discount.

Best marina ever, 2013-07-06
Captain: , Southport, NC (706)

Shallowbag wasnt our first choice. We wanted to be right in town. However, they offered us a weekly deal we couldnt refuse. Upon arriving we were shocked at the ammenities. Fitness center, pool, game room with ping pong, pool table. Bikes to loan out (we had our own). Very nice restuarant and bar (Stripers). The map was misleading. It's only a short bike ride into town. We also saw many attractions while we were there (too many to list). We planned on only staying only a few days, waiting on the wind to lay, we stayed 10 days. We couldnt imagine how nice Shallowbag marina is and how much fun we had in the town of manteo. The dockmaster helped us in every way. The new owner has a great team and manteo is a real destination off the beaten path. I think Shallowbag is the East Coast best kept secret. we will not only be back, we will spend another week there. Thanks Pete and Elisha

June 2012 overnight at Shallowbag Bay Marina, 2012-08-04
Captain: , Topping, VA (30)

Owners very helpful from point of reservation to point of tying up; offered us their bikes, even their car in the interest of our having a look at Manteo, which is about 15 minutes walk away. Private channel is wide, about 8 feet deep, well marked with small buoys, marina well protected especially the inside slips, restaurant is good and nice location. Pool, exercise facilities nice. Floating docks, new facilities.

Shallowbag Bay Marinia under new management; great alternative to Manteo town docks!, 2012-05-10
Captain: , Hertford, NC (61)

We stayed at Shallowbag Bay Marina for 3 nights in late April. New owners Carol and Rita were very friendly and helpful. The marina is well built and has good protection from all but easterly winds. The ships store and facilities were clean and adequately stocked. On-site restaurant and bar STRYPER'S was very good. Darrell's restaurant next door is also good. Next to Darrell's is the Christmas Store, a favorite of my family for many years. They have recently expanded and have excellent art work and books now. Downtown waterfront is about a half mile away, easy by bike. Only negative is finding the channel marker to approach the marina. You cannot head directly into the marina because of a shoal but must go all the way to Red 10 before turning left 90 degrees towards land. you will see the outermost green can and marina can straight ahead to guide you into the channel to the marina.
