Reviews for Port Jefferson Yacht Club
Overnight at Port Jeff, 2016-10-13
Captain: , Southport CT (10)

We called in on the VHF and were promptly directed to a suitable mooring. Staff and members were all friendly. There was some confusion with calling the launch. It is important to include "Yacht Club" when calling on the radio, since there is a separate "Port Jefferson Launch" service. Since our trip was so late in the season, launch service from both providers ended at 18h00, which put a crimp in our plans for dining ashore. Next time we we may bring our dinghy with us too.

Captain: , Branford,Ct (40)

As usual, pleasant stay however there was a very inconsiderate boat nearby. It is unfortunate that guest can not self-monitor themselves to be considerate of others. This was the first time and very annoying. I am still giving PJYC a high star rating hoping this is a one time occurrence.

Good Stay, Mooring Balls -good condition, 2016-09-08
Captain: , Santa Cruz CA (20)

Waited out and hide away from Hermine. Good location, helpful staff, bathrooms dated but clean.

nice day trip, 2016-08-30
Captain: , Westport (10)

Easy mooring ball pickup, launch service excellent, clean bathroom/shower, close walk to village. Definitely coming back!

Rendezvous from RYC, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Raritan Yacht Club in Raritan Bay (10)

We love stopping at Port Jeff on our way home to Raritan Bay. They do have to straighten out the awful confusion with Port Jeff launch however. Other than the caus of hailing the correct launch and getting on the right mooring it's a wonderful destination.

Alexa was a wonderful as a very busy launch driver. Club needs to upgrade the shower and bathroom facilities.

Port Jefferson Yacht Club mooring, 2016-08-08
Captain: , Northport, NY (10)

Dockwa made reserving a mooring very easy, and Port Jefferson Yacht Club was very accommodating! The launch driver was very nice and had some good suggestions, and I would definitely go back there. Highly recommended!

Captain: , Southampton (10)

The launch is is very helpful and prompt. We had a lot of guests coming and going and they were always professional and friendly

PJYC 7/23/16, 2016-07-28
Captain: , Oyster Bay, New York (20)

Very pleasant overnight stay on a mooring close to their dock. Helpful and courteous launch drivers and staff. Enjoyed the short, (though hot), walk into Port Jefferson for dinner at "Fifth Season". We have stayed here many times when it was formerly the Setauket Yacht Club. The Dockwa reservation process worked perfectly and we had our confirmation back within a half hour of our request. Concerto In Sea will definitely use Dockwa on future cruises.

Easy mooring, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Mamaroneck (10)

Quiet mooring. The ferry stops in he evening and isn't a factor. Launch was dependable quick and convenient. Check out the "sand pit" on your port side as you enter the harbor. Great place to paddle or kayak. Climb the dunes to hike over to secluded beach on the sound. Cool hiking experience. The town of port Jeff has good shopping and food and of course ice cream.

Port Jeff YC is a great place to stay, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Liberty Landing (30)

I make it out to Port Jeff at least a couple times a year. This is a great place to stay. It is a 5 minute walk into town. The club is friendly and always welcoming.

Perfect Spot, 2016-06-18
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

Pricy at $50, but given the free water taxi that needs no tipping, and also the water taxi is outstanding - no or little waiting and great drivers) we guess that the price is acceptable. The location of the balls is also better than many of the others in the harbor. We loved the town and the staff was very good. Balls very easy to pick up. You do not need a grab pole since the pendents have sticks to grab. Also the balls have two lines so you can easily bridle.

Very Friendly Group, 2015-07-30
Captain: , East Greenbush, NY (705)

Moorings were good and the assistant dockmaster was very attentive to ensuring the right weight and size boats went on them. Free launch was great! Pretty close to town for walking, and use of the dinghy dock if you want. Also, a nice beach right next to the mooring field to let your dog run around.

Great place to stay, 2015-06-19
Captain: , Port Jefferson (21)

Friendly and accomodating little club, right in town and close to the restaurants and shops. Showers are available and water is available at the dock. Pumpout is available next door at Danfords but watch the tides if you draw a lot.

A very nice alternative to Danfords, 2013-12-25
Captain: , Maine (639)

Although we perfer anchoring out in Setauket Harbor there are a few accasions we want the convience of a good restuarant, shopping and a walk to an ice cream shop. This is our choice. The launch makes everything easy. If you don't need a power hook up this is a very, very good well protected place.

Good Long Stay, 2013-12-16
Captain: , Crockett (610)

Would be 5 stars if it wasn't $50 per night, though the included launch service was nice. The moorings seemed well maintained, the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

We stayed here for about 10 days as family came and visited and it was easier than moving around and dealing with transportation logistics.

Port Jeff is a great little town. Great food can be found at almost all the resturants, except those on the water. . . La Parrilla was exceptional! The Pie was good and YoGo Delish is a must stop for Frozen Yougurt desert.

We spent time dinghying out to the little bay in the NE side of the Harbor and spent time on the beach searching for shells.

All and all a great place to spend some time with family

Great Folks, 2013-08-25
Captain: , Philadelphia, Pa. (165)

7/2013
We anchored originally between the mooring field and the main channel across from the power plant but were told by the PJ Launch operator that we would be ticketed or fined by the harbor master. This was after we had already spent our first night here.

So we decided to take a mooring at Setauket Yacht Club. We were assigned an appropriate mooring for our sized boat, and the launch operators couldn't have been more prompt, friendly or helpful (Meghan was great).

There was a notice on the clubhouse welcoming visitors to join the members at the clubhouse bar in the evening which we did.

We were warmly welcomed, and invited to join in their pot luck dinner. We are not members at any yacht club, though the easy going group made us wish we locals. We loved it!

Captain: , Portsmouth, VA (430)

Arrived from Port Washington without a reservation, SYC answered immediately to call for a mooring, took #502. Quiet evening in a full mooring field. John, the launch driver very prompt and informative. Nice town with an active barber shop across from Starbucks...

Excelent place to enjoy a nice town, 2013-02-27
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale FL (271)

Nice and helpful launch service and operates till late during summer. Mooring field has good depth but fairways are tight. Town has lots to offer for several days. Bay also has lots of nooks to explore. Ferry wake is not a major nuisance.

Good mooring service, 2012-08-09
Captain: , Bristol, Rhode Island (2702)

Mooring balls (yellow w/500-series numbering) indeed are close in to town but away from industry and ferry noise on west side of inner harbor.

Restrooms/showers are clean and adequate if not luxurious. Launch drivers friendly.

Port Jeff visitor center in the '1917 Boat House' (a repurposed shipyard building), is worth a stop. You walk past it on the way to E. Bway and the rest of the town.

Great spot - we'll return, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Milford (439)

SYC moorings are tucked up as close as you can get to the town, away from power plant noise and ferry wakes although the ferries shut down early in the evening. Launch operators were very responsive and helpful. the town is cute and bustling with tourists, tons of restaurants and bars for any budget or taste.

We loved the location and the service and will return to SYC

No returned call, 2011-11-25
Captain: , Portsmouth RI (275)

I guess they go home in October. We called to reserve a mooring and left a message. No one returned the call. Their moorings are yellow and were mostly free. In hindsite I should have picked up a mooring and paid if a launch appeared. We took a town mooring for $40 with very limited launch service so we should have just picked up one of their moorings.

NO RECIPROCITY, 2011-09-19
Captain: , Bartlett, NH (150)

Since we're members of Maryland Yacht Club and since Setauket YC is listed in the Register of American Yacht Clubs as having reciprocity, and since there is NO town dinghy dock, we thought we'd be able to leave the dinghy there for a couple of hours to see the town -- never been here before. We were told that we had to take a YC mooring in order to land the dinghy. What part of reiprocity don't they get????

Great Location and Friendly Staff, 2011-09-09
Captain: , Bridgeport, CT (548)

No frills club catering to serious sailors/boaters. A great place to pick up a mooring and either have the launch take you into town or take your own dinghy to the club dock. The moorings are as far away from the Porf Jeff ferry as possible, which you will appreciate in the late evening hours. Only one pendant is attached to the 'tall boy' pickup; you have to fish the other one out of the water with a boat hook from the mooring ball, making the process more difficult.

Great location, launch service, 2011-07-24
Captain: , New York, NY (470)

Right next to town, need a reservation for weekends, most of the launch driver's are very nice (with the exception of one old curmudgeon who is decidely unfriendly.) Launch starts at 0800 and runs to 2345. Bathroom facilities in yacht club are minimal but work fine. Town is overrun with tourists on the weekends, but lots of dining options, plus provisioning close by.

In close to town, 2010-10-11
Captain: , Block Island (1679)

What's not to like? You can't anchor anywhere near the main town, so these moorings are a really good, and cheap alternative. Nice facility and close to everthing in town. Plenty of depth in mooring field, but be sure and tell them your size as the mooring weights vary.

good location - mooring balls, 2010-09-07
Captain: , charleston (761)

used the mooring balls, but the launch service was good and the facilities are too. Like Northport better than Port Jeff, but it is nice

Very Friendly YC, 2009-08-30
Captain: , Travers Is., NY (47)

Nice club in a fun town. Great stopover for any LIS cruise.

A great mooring field!, 2009-07-23
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay, MD (311)

Pretty harbor and mooring field is right where the action is in Port Jeff. Friendly dockmaster and Launch service included with the cost of your Mooring. Use of the facilities (head, shower, trash) and the walk to town is maybe a block and a half. We had a nice time and injoyed our stay.
