NO RESPONCE TO A Problem, 2017-08-22
Captain: , Littleton, NC (426)

Dear Mr. Lyder,
I am hoping you will intervene to resolve this situation.
Attached is documentation which will substantiate my allegations.
1) In advance I was told that there would not be Storage fees as long as there was work being done on the vessel
2) I made an appointment to bring the vessel in on June 2.
3) Damage to my vessel occurred when over my concerns I was told to lay up against a piling and they would pull it in.
4) When I discussed this with Geoff, he said he would cover the cost of the repair.
5) I rented a condo while it was being serviced, which I was told would only be 3 days.
6) After a week went by with no progress (June 10th), I said I could not continue renting a Condo and asked if I could leave the vessel there and have Geoff contact me when it would be ready. I was also told again by Geoff that there would not be a charge for storage.
7) I called weekly inquiring when it would be ready. The last time we talked on July 10th. Geoff asked me when I absolutely needed the boat back. I replied July 18th.
8) Shortly thereafter Geoff called and said they discovered a problem with the starboard sail drive.
9) Although I was upset and believed that they should have discovered this sooner I said repair it and volunteered that through my contacts with Volvo, I could have the parts cheaper and fast shipped. Sea Love could keep the discount. Geoff declined saying they had a relationship with the local supplier.
10) When I arrived on July 18th they had only received some of the parts, the boat was not finished being painted, and they were expecting the zincs to be delivered in the next day or so.
11) The Boat was finally launched on July 21st.
Although I paid the invoice in full I was not Happy that:
1) I was charged $990 for Storage.
2) I was charged $668 for Repairs.
3) I personally incurred over $2000.00 in needless expenses.
4) The Boat would again need to be hauled, prepped, and painted.
After arriving at my destination I decided to personally have the vessel inspected.
This inspection found that the inside grounding wires were not attached, and the bottom of the keels were not painted.
I had my diver video tape the bottom paint situation and sent this to Geoff along with my complaints. After being informed that Geoff couldn%u2019t see the video I reviewed it myself. In deference to Geoff, I had had another Video tape made and sent to Sea Love. Please contact my diver (Mike Laing) directly if you have questions.
Please inform me what you propose as a fair settlement.

great experience, 2016-04-30

bent a prop at the ponce inlet, luckily we were just south of sea love. the crew at the yard could not have been better, they hauled us out, removed both props, put us back in the water, we stayed onboard instead of a motel, the work was completed in three days, both props were installed and we were on our way. the work was completed very professional, the price was fair (I expected a lot more) and it was done in the time frame they promised. We were completely satisfied. To all of the helpful and friendly crew at sea love, THANK YOU

The SLBW is a cruiser-friendly yard. Prices are fair and they could haul out my 20 ft. beam catamaran. The staff seem to go a little beyond expectations in delivering what the promised and doing it at a fair price. The blocking of my cat has been a problem at other yards that did not follow instructions (not to be supported by the keels), but this crew placed four support stands under each hull plus wooden blocks under the keels. (Update 5/10/15) I had the bottom painted and sanded and the hulls waxed. Final price came out to be half again as much. I didn't get an estimate in writing, but I would caution anyone wanting work done here to get one.

Victor repaired the hull with some 1st class fiberglass work inside and out.

The restroom/shower could use a remodeling, but it's functional.

One of the best things is Down the Hatch resturant. Very good live music on the weekends, especially at night. The resturant is a 200 yd walk from boat yard. Another fun place is the Hidden Harbor resturant within a 15 minute walk. The beautiful beach area is a short walk also.

Convenient Fuel Stop, 2015-04-15
Captain: , St Petersburg, Fl (222)

We just came into Ponce Inlet for fuel as we were traveling southbound in the Atlantic. The fuel dock was easy to get into as it is a long floating dock. (We were in 58 Searay) Staff was helpful and price was good. Did not stay over night but there was a waterfront restaurant right next door.

Fast, Efficient Repair, 2014-10-18

We had Towboat US bring our 36' sailboat to Sea Love Boatworks when our coolant pump seized up while motoring south. They located a source for the pump up in New England and had it delivered the next day and installed that afternoon. The mechanic was quick and tidy aboard. Rates were reasonable.
We can certainly reccomend Sea Love for mechanical work.
Brisk currents on the floating docks. Bar/restaurant right next door is convenient. They have live music some weekends, don't know how late.

The management just changed recently and in my opinion they have no concept of customer service. I will not give the details of the bad experience I had with them, but what really got to me at the end was that they managed to put the boat back in the water without starting the bilge pump. What is more basic that that?

Very nice staff, 2012-12-23

This small marina and boatyard is run by a really great and helpful staff. I have stayed there a couple of times when positioning boats up the coast and it is close to the inlet and easy in and out. Most recently I had for a reservation but was running late and they even stayed late to catch my lines. Very helpful as I was singlehanded on that trip. Located next to the yard is "Down the Hatch" seafood restaurant which has been there for many years and has an excellent prime rib special on Friday and Saturday night. A couple of things to be aware of...the current rips pretty quickly through the marina so if in a sailboat you may want to either stem the tide or wait until slack. Also the bouyage from the inlet into the ICW has changed in recent years, so if you are unfamaliar with the channel, make sure you have current charts or consult local knowledge.

Somewhat difficult to get to, 2012-06-21
Captain: , Little River, SC (1987)

We decided to leave our boat there for a few months while we return north to finish off our work. They are sheduled to haul the boat, clean the bottom and investigate a persistent oil leak in the engine. The staff was very helpful and friendly and stayed late on a Friday night to help us dock and make the necessary arrangements. I'll update this review after they have completed the work.
Well we wound up being here for 7 months. We had our bottom blister repair done here as well as numerous other maintenance tasks and installations. the people are great. George and Linda will do anything that they can to help you out. All the time that we were here they waived storage and dockage charges because we were having this work done. I highly recommend Seal Love Boat works. All of the people and mechanics were very professional and courteous and, most of all competent.
Down the Hatch restaurant on site is OK, Far better is Jerry's Italian Rest & Tiki Bar about a mile away. Access to ocean beach is about .5 miles away.

Good honest People and Knowledgable service, 2012-02-14
Captain: , Winchester (10)

George and his team hauled us out sanded and painted the bottom and got the job done in a timely fashion but more importantly got the job done right. George is an old sailor who has a few 1000nm under his belt. So not only does he understand the needs of a cruising boat but he goes out of his way to help out and to get you out of trouble. We needed a 30mm metric socket to tighten our new folding prop, since we did not have this in our tool box and neither did his work shop he was nice enough to locate one at a local auto parts dealer and drive out and get it for us. It got us out of a bind.

The people that work on the yard all have good knowledge of what they are doing and go out of their way to accomodate the needs of their customers.

Ponce inlet is a quite out of the way place.
The yard was Pet friendly
Knowledgable and friendly people

This is a working yard with minimal amenities (the showers were clean but don't expect anything fancy)
The yard is compressed sand not concrete, so if you do go in and out of your boat carelessly there is a tendency to carry in some sand.

Great service when we needed it. 03/2010. Jim n I, Reedville, VA., 2011-10-31

When we needed prop repair, they provided excellent service at a fair price. As the repair was over the weekend, they went out of the way to see to our needs until repairs could be completed.

Easy stop coming from the ocean, 2010-06-21
Captain: , Bermuda (219)

We stayed at Sea Love after a long day's run on the outside. Ponce Inlet is quite easy, the inlet itself is straight and well marked, the only tricky part is the turn at the end of the inlet which is shoaled, but fine in good light. The marina has good concrete floating docks and a restaurant/bar on site. When we left, we were back out in the ocean within 20 minutes to continue our run north.

5 stars if you need a big lift, 2008-11-14
Captain: , fairland (2653)

Thisiis a boat yard, not really a transient marina. They will accept transients if space is availble. Close to the beach and Daown the Hatch (very popular local bar-restaurant). They do all below the water line work. You can work above the water line or they will recommend contractors for anything else.
