Reviews for Scipio Creek Marina
Easy in and out, 2017-06-18
Captain: , Merritt Island, FL (556)

We stayed here on May 11 and again on June 13, 2017. The marina has a few good tie-ups for transients, easy in and out, power, and water. However, the view of the dilapidated building is a turn-off. There is a ship's store of sorts, but no lounge, or pool, or nice place to sit outside. Also, no Internet at the transient dock. The lady on duty does answer the radio, and the phone, and was pleasent to talk to.

Great history here for us - so glad to be here!, 2017-02-15
Captain: , Panama City FL (330)

per the owner the marina is in the "sell/ sold" status - purchased by a developed for improvements. will be a great addtion to the town. easy walking distance to great reastaurants, brewer etc and an overall fun stop!

Best Marina in town., 2016-12-13
Captain: , Apalachicola (20)

Passing thru and stayed at the Marina for a couple of nights. The restaurant is closed but there are several good restaurants in walking distance. The oysters are delicious. The dockmaster met us at the dock and helped us tie up the boat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Facilities were very clean.

Not a lot of choices here but there are better ones stayed 11-18-2016, 2016-12-12
Captain: , Muskegon (138)

The town is very nice and of course there are the Oysters. This marina is way overpriced for what you get. No assistance finding the dock, no answer on radio, run down facilities, and derelict boats. There was a restaurant once but it has been closed for some time. The restrooms are some of the worst%u2026it looks like they are trying to go out of business.

Disappointing but limited options, 2016-12-05
Captain: , Baltimore (529)

We made a reservation the day before. Coming from the west, you lose a day to daylight savings time change. We were told the marina closes at 4pm. When we arrived, the office told us over the phone where they wanted us to tie up. No dockhand or anyone around. The docks are OK, the marina is pretty run down. No resturant. Expensive for what is offered but they know you are limited in your choices.

Best Marina in Apalachicola, 2016-07-06
Captain: , Destin, fl (40)

The folks here are friendly, there is deep water and all in all the grounds are clean. The docks are well kept and the pilings are sheathed in PVC pipe to protect rub rails. The deck hand was there waiting for us and helped us tie up. The power was fine and the water on the dock had plenty of pressure. The restaurant is closed now, fyi.

not friendly, 2016-01-27
Captain: , Mobile Al (200)

we were here with boat problems and the person that helped us tie up was rude When we paid for the night no extra info was given to us volentaryly.. The restuarent was good, will not return.

Nice people, so-so facility, 2016-01-08
Captain: , Boyd, Texas (390)

A little high priced for the amenities but nice people.

Good overnight stop, 2015-12-03
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (2206)

We have 39 ft trawler, had to stay on dock alongside Creek. Locals observed no wake. $6 for pump out, not much suction. Location not close to town. Marina has WiFi but no signal at our dock. Ok marina but $1.50 ft little high in my opinion.

Waiting for a crossing, 2015-11-14
Captain: , Racine, WI (371)

We stayed a week waiting for a weather window. It may be the best marina in Apalachicola but it is a very weak comparison. We got ants on the second day, the docks are solid but old, the entire marina is in various states of disrepair. The bathrooms are less than adequate, no shower curtain in the men's bathroom, no paper towels either. Everything is crumbling around them and it seems no effort is being made to keep up the facilities. Very expensive considering the conditions, I would try another marina the next time I visit Apalachicola.

Deterioating, 2015-08-12
Captain: , Corpus Christi (110)

Marina was closed when we arrived. Tony, fishing guide, very helpful. The first dock we tied up on had a bad connection for shore power. We moved over to the fuel dock to tie up. Shore power at the fuel dock was good. The main problem was the boat was covered in ants the next morning. For this reason I would not recommend Scipio Marina. The marina is getting in poor condition and the restaruant has moved to town. Short walk to town.

GREAT OYSTERS, 2015-06-01
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1633)

Probably the best stop in Appalachicola. Price is a little high for the area and condition of the docks. Pappa Joe's Oyster house is excellent and the oysters are even better. It;s a short walk to town with several decent restaurants. The dock master was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He was right there to guide us in and help tie up.

Adquate Marina, 2015-04-10
Captain: , Poteau, OK (289)

The transient slip is a tie along and easy to access. The amenities signs of use and appear a bit aged. Its a pleasant walk to town, certainly less than a mile. The tides were weird here and I dont understand why (mixed diurnal).

Facilities in poor condition, 2014-11-11
Captain: , Fort Collins, CO (107)

Stayed one night. They tied us up to the fuel dock which appears to be disintegrating from one end. Could not use the restrooms/showers/laundry as they were gross and in disrepair. No sense of security. I took on fuel and think the pumps may be inaccurate as they put way more fuel in the boat than it should have used since last fuel up. No proof but I think I got screwed on that. These people need to get out of the marina business or do major renovations Obviously would not recommend this place.

Facility appears to be suffering from lack of care, 2014-07-11
Captain: , Palm Beach (36)

No docking help. Minimal snacks and beverages in ship's store. Still has a fairly good selection of marine parts. Showers and restrooms need help. Entire facility is generally tired and becoming run-down with the exception of the dry storage and the docking basin. No longer any restaurant on premise. On the plus side the docking pilings were sound and the area was quiet with minimal wakes. As noted in a prior review beware of the ants...we were swarmed and are still finding them. Make sure to have ant spray or traps handy.

Rustic But Rustic, 2013-12-06
Captain: , Vermilion, OH (144)

Has bare neccessities except no pumpout. Seems to have little cash to improve facilities. Restaurant closed and reportedly moving to new location closer to center of town.

Rough but friendly, 2013-09-24
Captain: , Lizella GA (1826)

Marina is a little run down. Restrooms and showers are old and needed some repair. Staff was great, helping to dock, fuel and tie up. Not much wake and the boats that did pass by went very slowly. Resturant is rustic but has great food and serves Appalach Oysters a bunch of different ways.

Quiet but rough, 2013-07-29
Captain: , Bochum (318)

Couldn't agree more with Jim, he nailed it. The ants are a real problem make sure you have plenty of repellent. Being on the creek away from the main river makes this stop very calm and quiet, Papa Joe's is right there for some food, and it's a 15 min. walk to downtown or the grocery store. The staff are friendly but less you expect before coming the less disappointed you'll be.

Worst on the Gulf coast, 2013-06-20
Captain: , Destin, Florida (20)

While the staff was friendly, the price was high for this run-down, unkempt facility. The door to the men's bathroom/shower was literally falling off the hinges, the 'lock' was a slide bolt between two screws and it was hotter inside, without A/C, than the 95 degrees outside. Oh, and the hot water only workied if someone gave you instructions. I was directed to the southernmost space on the transient dock, next to the fish cleaning table, and completely blocked from any breeze, even though the rest of the transient dock was completely empty. While I was away from my boat, someone from the marina staff boarded her, without my consent, moved her a boat length farther south down the dock, disconnected my shore power and poorly re-secured the lines. And as a finishing touch, the next morning, my boat, which hasn't had an ant on it in 22 years, was absolutely infested with ants. Too bad there are so few options in Apalachicola.

Rough but a good stop, 2013-04-14
Captain: , Thibodaux, Louisiana (190)

We have stayed here often and always enjoyed it it is a bit of a walk in to town and the bathrooms and showers need help. The Fuel prices are reasonable and we had help on hand docking and fueling. Staff and everyone we ran into were very friendly. As has been posted Papa Joes has good food. We always enjoy Apalachicola from the shops even to touring the old cemetery.

Peaceful Stay, 2013-04-13
Captain: , Anna Maria Island (573)

We stayed here in 2012 we had 6 foot min. of water during our stay. Ouiet, peaceful the only drawback was we were out of town. GREAT food onsite. (Papa Joes Oyster Bar) good small supplies for the boat. A nice dingy run up the creek, gators, ospry, eagles a truly beautiful run goes on for miles and miles plenty of water up there too. It gets deeper the further you go. Oh it starts out a bit rough with many discarded fishing vessels once you get past that it is beautiful

Scipio Creek Marina a disappointment, 2012-11-20
Captain: , New Orleans (70)

The marina is run down. No pump out, bathrooms/showers unclean, office disorganized. Expensive compared to Port St. Joe Marina or Palafox Marina where the price is less and value much higher. The only saving grace for Scipio is its protected waters and place for Cat and large boats.

Docking left a lot to be desired, 2012-06-01
Captain: , Pensacola (142)

Staff put us at the far south end of transient dock. We were oriented south with 4 -5 feet hanging off of dock. Ships Store had VERY LITTLE in the way of Motor Oil and had ZERO anti-freeze. No courtesy vehicle. No nearby location to get Anti-freeze.
Cold Beer was good in the restaruant bar.

Rustic Fishing Fleet marina, 2012-05-16
Captain: , Punta Gorda FL (1709)

Thsi si a rustic fishing fleet marina with all that implies. Papa Joe's restaurant has the best and biggest oysters in the area. It is rustic; you sit at banquet tables and folding chairs. But oh man are they good. Dock has 8" depth and is well protected from wakes and wind. There are many antibellum homes and museums. Lots of nice friendly locals here who are willing to help. Would stay a week if i could.

Scipio Creek Marina, 2012-02-06
Captain: , Eagle Harbor, WA (471)

This is a safe harbor. Staff is helpful and friendly. Restrooms & Showers are very basic they need help. The town and resturants create a pleasent stay. Lots of wildlife, otters, alligators, turtles, birds. Electricity/water is included.

Tired Marina, 2012-01-20
Captain: , Chattanooga (220)

You'd be better off on the city docks. Shower was grim. Restaurant is popular, but the marina looks run down.

Solid, wide docks, 2011-12-11
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7374)

Friendly staff, lots of help getting tied up to fuel dock, then to assigned spot. Really liked the PCV pipe on all the pilings. Restroom / shower adequate. Papa Joe's on site has great Oysters, many other restaurants within 1/2 mile downtown. One boat with us, tied up along the channel past the harbor briefly stuck in mud at low tide.

Price seems high, 2011-04-26
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (539)

Good sidetie and power. Very basic. Probably the best place in the town for boats over 45 feet. Depth more than 8 feet at dock. But the price of $1.75 (including power) seems very high for this very rustic place. It is certainly not a resort. The dockmaster is competent with lines but insisted on doing it his way by simply ignoring our request to secure lines in the order and position that we prefer. Pappa Joe's restrurant is right on the dock and was recommended by locals.

Captain: , Panama City, FL (10)

Even though it is early in the season, we called ahead and they seemed to be expecting us. We tied up right on the creek which is very well protected from the weather and seas. Some shrimp boat traffic going by, but very slow with low wake. The restaurant was friendly with great oysters and shrimp. We cut the corner from the GIWW a little early and ran aground. Look for a very small, unofficial marker. We also came in a little fast and received lots of nasty radio calls and a visit from somebody tied up along the creek.

Oyster Heaven, 2011-02-16
Captain: , Fayetteville, Arkansas (671)

Scipio creek is under new management and they are working hard to get the place back to nice. The women's restroom and shower facilities has been recenently renovated and is very nice. The men's... not so much. Staff was friendly and the location was awesome. Oysters from this area a must try....

Early December stay, 2011-02-13
Captain: , Mobile Al (140)

We called the marina for a slip and were told to problem, only to find we had to tie to a very high sea wall and no slips available. We found the place not too friendly or boat smart. The resterant had pretty good food but a little $$$. not too high on our list of places to hurry back to.

Clean Pilings, 2010-04-18
Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (998)

Side tie next to restaurant on fixed dock. Pilings have heavy pvc covers so the lines stay clean. Nice ships store and fuel personnel. Wind protection from all but SE. Shrimp boats and fishing vessels observe slow bell here. Small boat anchorage just across from docks. Enter next to sunken spud barge

Scipio Creek Marina, 2009-12-11
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

Basic marina. Tied alongside a facedock. Papa Joe's Oyster Bar & restaurant onsite; reasonanle prices. Town within easy walking distance. Bookstore, Post Office, small shops, additional restaurants.

Scipio, 2009-12-11
Captain: , Franklin Tn (441)

Great deep water ramp, clean showers/restroom, good restaurant. Retrieving we used a 100' rode because of a strong north east wind. Well stocked marine store, very friendly staff.

Convenient place to stay, 2009-05-06
Captain: , Knoxville, TN (1788)

We stayed here 2 nights on our way to Carabelle to cross the Gulf. The people were friendly; staff helped us tie up at the dock. Papa Joe's Oyster Bar restaurant was fantastic and reasonably priced (we loved the raw bar). Wife got sick while here, so Cooms Taxi ($7) picked her up and took her to Weems Memorial hospital ER. They were great! Then she walked to CVS and then the taxi brought her back. Simpler than we thought to get medical help. Cell phone service was good, not great. We would definitely stay here again.

fuel cheaper here, 2009-03-27
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

protected, fixed docks, water, showers, 5 blocks to a very touristy town expensive town that raises prices for events.
Caution drinks in town ARE very $$$

Rest Rooms and showers, 2009-02-12
Captain: , southlake (5)

All is true about the food and all, however the rest rooms and showers are a mess. The shower is so dirty you don't want to walk in. Mens room has water on the floors at all times and is dirty. It was reported the ladies shower stall (fiberglass) has a large hole in the bottom, not the drain. Needs serious work.

Great restaurant, 2007-06-10
Captain: , Bay St. Louis, MS (734)

Papa Joe's is a great seafood restaurant. Probably the best fried oysters on the gulf coast (of all the places I have eaten). Nice marina, friendly staff, short walk to town.

This is the Real Scipio Creek Marina, 2007-03-06
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1306)

Good fuel prices, a great restaurant, nice folks, and real old Florida funk. Probably one of the last of these places left.Worth spending a few days.
