Reviews for Schuyler Yacht Basin
Nice Place to Stop, 2016-08-21
Captain: , Stamford, CT (40)

Mid point in the Champlain Canal, this is a great stop. The marina owners, Phil and Judy are super hosts. Its a cute place with 30 and 50 amps of power, cable, water, fuel and internet. The grounds are covered with flowers and there are chairs and picnic tables in different locations. Rest rooms, showers, washer dryers are available. The Marina is located a short walk to the small town of Schuylerville where you can re-stock the boat with provisions. There is an excellent restaurant, Dove Gate, also within walking distance. We always stay multiple nights enjoying early coffee with Phil and Judy and guests. Its a short taxi ride to Saratoga Springs to shop, eat and stretch our legs. If your looking for a restful stop in the canal this is the place. And please say hi to Phil and Judy for us.

Warm Hospitality Can't Be Beat, 2016-07-10
Captain: , Milwaukee, Wisconsin (60)

Judy and Phil definitely make this a stop worth doing. From the greeting at the dock, to Phil's humor, to the welcome we received when we ended up eating at the same restaurant, their hospitality made us quickly feel at home. The townspeople were also congenial - we had several people stop to let us cross the street at times we were expecting to wait and people waved from their cars too. Sure, the Marina and docks could use updating, but the laundry facilities are good (3 washers and dryers in a lounge area with plenty of tabletop surfaces for folding). It is a short walk into town and a fully stocked grocery store. We had dinner at Dovegate B&B - it was an unexpected delightful meal and reasonably priced. There aré signs around town telling about the history of Schuylerville, which is fun. This is a good location on the Hudson and is well protected from all sides.

Awesome, charming place!, 2016-07-07
Captain: , Bristol, RI (50)

We second everything that the people on the review from July 5 (below) just stated. REALLY REALLY charming. And great owners/hosts. We stayed 1 night on our way to Champlain. 44 ft boat - no issues with docking, 50 Amp, water, etc. And they have good quality made-in-USA T-shirts. Laundry is excellent, showers a bit dated, showers & toilets clean. The grounds are immaculate. Nearby town has terrific restaurant for dinner, and breakfast.

Great Stop for the night., 2016-07-05
Captain: , Montreal (717)

Great place, with all what to expect: docks, showers, water, cable tv, pump out, diesel, gaz, Gazebo and BBQ quiet. Free coffee in the morning. Walking distance from downtown where there is a small general market. It Feels like at home.
Judy and Phil will take care of you. As of early july 2016, there was 7 feet of water at the southest docks, a bit less if you go north. With 5.8 draft, we had no problem going to the service dock where there was about 6 feet of water.
Try to dock south for a quieter stay, since there is a bit of traffic during the day over the bridge.
After we called a taxi that never showed up, Judy gave us a ride up to Saratoga so that we can get to the train station on time. Much much appreciated. Thanks Judy.

Clean, comfortable and great owners, 2015-09-14
Captain: , Norwalk, CT (82)

Great place. Town is an easy walk and has everything a small town can offer. I will be back on the return trip.

Nice stop, but dated., 2015-08-28
Captain: , Lake Champlain (210)

Seems like the other reviews give an accurate description of the facilities. Very nice people, and we always make of point of stopping here.

We'll be back, 2015-08-20
Captain: , Mallets Bay (80)

Judy and Phil have recently celebrated thirty years in the business and they are the reason for this successful venture. They could not have been more welcoming or helpful. The marina also has an RV park and the dominant ambience of the whole place is the goodwill, good humor and positive comraderie of fellow travellers. The boaters building provides a place to do laundry, have a cup of coffee, buy ice, share books. Only negatives were very wobbly docks and gas prices at high end. The showers and toilet rooms were reasonably clean but had no shelves or hooks for dry clothes, towels.

Stop over on the way to Champlain - will be back, 2015-07-09
Captain: , Mashpee, MA (541)

The people who run this place make it special. Docks could use some attention, but facilities are clean and office has all kinds of information about the area. Showers are old but clean, (6 foot people watch your head on entering!). Town a few blocks away with large grocery store for a small town. Free WiFi with good reception.

Nice Folks - Quiet little town - Great Restaurants, 2015-05-25
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (532)

Stopped 5-19-15. Floating Docks, tie along. Old but serviceable. Community Room with washers and dryers very comfortable and functional. Marina is only two blocks from town, protected from canal wakes by small island. Owners live on site. Friendly and knowledgeable. Pet friendly. Big City park, bike trails and hiking nearby. Ate at two restaurants in town, Clark's Steakhouse and Over the Moon Cafe for breakfast. Both were great food, good service and reasonably priced. All around a nice stop.

Quiet Spot - Good Half Way Location, 2015-05-19
Captain: , Seattle Wa (200)

Nice quiet setting behind an island about 100 yards off the river channel. Judy and Phil are friendly and helpful. The water is low right now but I had 5' at the dock. Cab to Saratoga is $30. Good location to stop overnight on a two day Champlain Canal pass.
I think my ratings are tougher than some peoples. Here are my rating guidelines - - 1 star - Lousy, skip this one- 2 star - Not terrible but I wouldn't come back- 3 star - Nice, I liked it overall and would return- 4 star - Great experience including facilities, management and setting- 5 star - Spectacular everything (there aren't many of these)

Stopped in for gas only, 2014-07-28
Captain: , Poughkeepsie Yacht Club (10)

the docks were shatty at best. Gas dock was in bad shape. gas was $4.99/ gal. the people were nice. I peaked in the showers and no where near as nice as mechanics like, but is prob older. I would prob only stay there if I had to.

Great Place to stop, 2014-06-16
Captain: , St. Clair, Michigan (456)

We came out of Albany and this was a good distance because we did the Federal Lock and 4 of the Champlain Canal Locks to get here. We were fortunate and each lock after the 1st was waiting for us.

We were welcomed by Judy, one of the Owners, when we approached the dock. She had given me pretty detailed instructions on entering the marina when I called ahead. It was no problem.

The docks are a little wobbly for floaters but not to bad as long as you are careful. I would have made it 5 stars with better docks. The grounds were nice with plenty of area to walk the dog. The "boaters building" is great. Nice lounge where they have coffee every morning at 7:00 am and a pretty good boaters book library. The also have wahsers and dryers and ice.

The town is 2 blocks away and they are pretty long blocks but manageable. The showers and toilet rooms are on the south side of the boaters building, clean and serviceable.

Judy and Phil are what makes this stop special. They go out of their way to make sure you have what you need and you know everything about town. They are there in the morning and make sure everybody knows erverybody else.

We had a lot of rain the first night we were there and more the sceond day. While the water level had been low when we arrived it rose about 3' while we were there. Did not see any problem of trees and such being washed out of the creeks but the docks are well protected. You do not even get any of the wake from the boats in the main channel.

A good place to stop.

Wonderful stop with great facilities. Took advantage of all & had especially nice lunch at the first small shop you come to walking toward town, Expressohuis My portabella sandwich was outstanding. Laundry, showers grocery lunch & more.

a special find, 2013-08-01
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

We didn't really know anything about this marina just that it was about where we wanted to stop for the day after cruising non-stop for a week. What a great find! Judy welcomed us with a smile and help docking. The water levels were low but with 1.5 feet under our 4 foot draft , we found the dock without a problem. To be fair, she told us the water level had just dropped overnight a foot or so.

We will be here just for the night but enjoyed the proximity to town, seeing a wonderful eye doctor as a walk in and restocking the wine celler.

You must stop here or miss a special place.

This place has a wonderful clean and welcoming feel. We will definately see Judy again on our return from Champlain in a month.

was a great halfway point through the canal. Judy and Phil are great peolpe. A nice shady marina, the grounds are very pretty and clean, screened in gazebo was a great place to hang at night. town is walking distance, had food market, diner and the best was Jodi's, a great little traven in the middle of nowhere, food was great. Judy was very helpful with the imformation she provide us about the canals.

Nice quiet stop, 2013-07-23
Captain: , West shore Marlboro NY (825)

spending a week here .. nice quiet spot, docks are ok , well protected , shady docks, 5 ft of water at the docks
bathrooms and showers are fine elec and water

nice stop of the way to Champlain, 2013-07-10
Captain: , Knapps Narrows Md (450)

We stopped here overnite while doing the canal. We could have spent more time and visited the Saratoga site but we had only purchased a 2 day pass. The owners are very nice and helped us get in and tied up. One caution is to watch the current as you are docking. Nice grocery store, post office and Stewarts root beer for ice cream. We opted for Mexican but there is also pizza and the Dove.

More than a Stopover, 2013-06-28
Captain: , annapolis (70)

Other reviews right on. I would add the Wifi is the best ever. We had work to do and stayed three nights. The town has a better than average grocery and Saratoga Monument is a nice walk.

Wonderful spot - great owners, 2013-06-22
Captain: , Toronto (20)

We stopped here on our way to Whitehall and on our way back to Waterford and could not be more pleased. Yes, the docks are well-used, but perfectly serviceable. Judy and Phil, the owners are really friendly and welcoming. It is an easy walk to the Dovegate Inn where we had dinner one night and the food was delicious. Highly recommended. The town has other eateries, but I think the Dovegate is probably tops for dinner.

Make this a stop one your way north or south. Expect some noise from the bridge nearby, but it was no bother to us. Showers have great pressure and lots of hot water. It's not the Ritz, but more than adequate. Fuel and pump out are both available as is free WiFi.

This is definitely the best place we stopped at on the canal.

Older but quaint, 2013-06-18
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

After a long stay south of Albany waiting for the Erie to open (which it apparently will not for 2 more weeks) we decided to go north to Lake Champlain. This was a nice halfway stop as we transited the Champlain. The owner Judy greeted us and helped us with our lines, a pumpout, and fuel.
There is some highwyay noise, and the docks have seen better days, but it is a nice clean marina. They are set up for smaller boats, but they handled our 44' trawlercat just fine.

Town is a couple of blocks away and there is a nice park across the street. I would rate it higher, if they would update their docks and restrooms a bit. All in all not a bad marina at all.

Really Nice Marina!, 2013-01-25
Captain: , Edgewater (321)

We pulled in here in the middle of a bad thunderstorm. Judy the owner waited patiently on the dock getting soaked as we took 2 aqttempts to dock in 25mph winds. After we were securely tied up, she excused herself and came back with hot chocolate for my soaked and cold wife who had been on the bow while docking. In the morning she invited us to have coffee with her and her husband and had treats ready for our dogs! The grounds are rural and very nice. There is a good grocery and restaurant within walking distance. On the way there we pasted a historical park that was having a low key nice festival. I can not say enough good things about this marina! We usually do the Champalin Canal in one day, but stopping here is worth it!! It is off the canal and protected from canal wakes.

nice little place, 2012-06-27
Captain: , Marlboro Yacht Club, Marlboro NY (515)

stayed here when passing on our trip to lake champlain. Nice people, town right up the road and was very quiet.

Ritz Service Marina, 2011-07-29
Captain: , Stuart FL (805)

July 2011

Spent 4 days with friends here and would liked to have stayed longer but alas family matters said no.

The docks are older and low floating but certainly adequate for the probable wind and current one might expect to see here. Two large W/D are available. Three showers and bathrooms are kept clean and stocked.

The dock mistress Judy is just great. She does know how to handle lines and get boats tied up.

There are banks, small grocery store and resturants within walking distance.

This is a great "destination" marina if one would like to take advantage of Satatoga's horse track and cultural activities. One will need a car since Saratoga is 10 miles away but Enterprise is available.

At $1.75 it is average price for the area but the service is certainly 1st rate.

quiet, shady, nice place, 2011-07-25
Captain: , Bennington, VT (20)

A pleasent stop over on your way North to Champlain or South to Florida. Small town within walking distance that would have most of your needs. Saratoga race track is about 15-20 minutes away by car. Very friendly people

Great stop!, 2011-06-27
Captain: , Huron, OH (176)

We stopped here today on our way from Schenectady to Whitehall. The staff is excellent and helpful. It's about everything you want at a marina, clean showers and restrooms, block and cube ice, and a free gas grill to fix supper. Short walk to a great wine/liquor shop and several other stores.

rustic and friendly, 2011-02-23
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

Great halfway stop on the way to or from Lake Champlain. Nice picnic area and friendly, helpful people. Not much in town, but there are a couple of shops and a grocery a medium walk away.

Nice Staff, 2011-01-30
Captain: , Coles Point, VA (777)

Very friendly people and helpful with fuel, showers and provisions. Gas and Diesel. Dock space somewhat limited. Short walk into town to other amenities and historical sites (Schuyler Mansion, for example). Access from the south--north access is clogged with grass, etc.

Disagree with poor reviews, 2010-11-12
Captain: , St Augustine (393)

This is not Ft Lauderdale glitz, but deep upstate New York. A good half way stop on the canal, I have been there half a dozen times. Town, food, etc a walk away. Owners very friendly. There will be noise fron nearby bridge.

Rustic or worn out?, 2010-07-20
Captain: , New Bern, NC (289)

This marina has seen better days. The management is very friendly and the docking charge was quite reasonable, however the showers and restrooms are just worn out, as is a large portion of the floating dock. There is a nice deck area where you can sit and look out over the water and a picnic / BBQ area which help to redeem the place. If you%u2019re looking for a laid back and %u201Crustic%u201D stay this is the place for you. If you want top notch facilities take a pass.

Avoid, 2009-09-13
Captain: , New Bern, NC (73)

The highest priced and among the worst we encountered on a 1450 mile Lake Champlain/Albany/Oswego/Montreal/Sorel loop.

Owner calimed I was the first to complain about excessive price.
