Reviews for Schenectady Yacht Club
Nice Facility, 2017-06-29
Captain: , Sacramento, CA (416)

Ed is a fantastic Harbor Master; willing to do anything for you. Amenities include a pool, and clean restrooms and showers.

Our Second Family, 2017-06-11
Captain: , Portage Lakes, OH (183)

We had to make an emergency stop into SYC due to an overheating issue on my starboard engine. I called the dockmaster as we were sitting out front, and they welcomed us in. Gave great instruction on how to play the current when docking. Got in, got tied, all was well. Was informed that they had a boat mechanic as a member, and he would be there the next day (Sunday) for the Blessing Of The Fleet. He showed up early, and quickly diagnosed the problem. We finally found the part that we needed, and had to have it shipped from Canada. The part got held up in Customs, and was delayed. At the same time, a bunch of rain came through, and they shut down the locks, so we couldn't go anywhere. The members at SYC have been one of the most friendliest group that we have met on this trip. They ran us to the store, when they were heading into the yacht club, they would call us and ask if we needed anything, they played and joked with our kiddos. It felt like home away from home. The boat mechanic fixed our boat, and still sends me a message to check and see how we are doing. They went above and beyond to make us comfortable during a circumstance where we were stranded. I highly recommend staying at SYC. Great bathrooms and strong showers, Gas/Diesel/Pumpout, a nice size pool, beautiful surroundings, and most of all beautiful people. Do not pass this gem up!!

Nice Stop - would recommend, 2015-08-24
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1244)

Helpful dockmaster - plenty of depth (13ft) at face dock, extending westward from the fuel dock. Nice grounds, grass, shade. Pool also if you like. Facilities were very clean. Short walk north to convenience store for basics. Was told local pizzerias and a Chinese restaurant would deliver but we cooked onboard.

Good stop over, 2015-08-17
Captain: , Racine, WI (525)

Stopped here on way east on Erie Canal. Helpful, easy to get in, and offered to drive us to grocery if needed. Not necessary, but was a nice offer.

Good fueling stop , 2015-06-10
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Got fuel $3.39 for diesel, water and washed off boat after getting filthy at Waterford. Easy in and out off the canal. Good floating docks, very helpful staff, good Pumpout .

Lots of History, 2014-09-28
Captain: , Erie, PA (587)

Make sure you walk the grounds. Their haul out well is an orignal canal lock and they have some "interesting" boats in their storage yard. The clubhouse is an old mule feeding barn when animals pulled barges on the canal acording to their dockmaster.
A real friendly place and it is easy to get in and out of.

Good place to stop, 2014-09-23
Captain: , Southport, NC (523)

Nice floating transient docks along the gas dock. Both 50 and 30 amp power. Bathrooms and showers are pretty good. Dock master was very helpful. The closest restaurants or bars are about 3-4 miles away, but you can have pizza or chinese food delivered.

Nice stop July 23, 2014, 2014-07-25
Captain: , Beverly, MA (40)

Fuel $4.19, pumpout $5, overnight $1.25 per foot includes electricity. clean bathrooms and a coin laundry. pool closed because of paperwork issues. The path to bathroom is up a grassy hill, could be a challenge for some. Pizza place delivers. brad the dock master was very helpful

A small marina, great staff, 2014-05-16
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

We stayed one night. Because of water issues, the marina was unable to launch their boats, so it was just us on the dock.

Dockmaster was very nice, good tips on where to go in town and places to stop on the canal going west.

Crew teams practice in the canal, very cool to watch.

Don't be put off on how close the bridge is, we didn't hear the traffic.

A nice stop if you need an over-night slip, 2013-09-16
Captain: , Henderson Harbor, NY (431)

Very friendly staff...more of a year round marina, but they doe welcome short stays. Showers and bathrooms were clean, decent price on fuel...5 stars for friendliness

Great stop after a long day, 2013-08-23
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

We had planned to stay on one of the free lock walls, but there is so much damage to the locks from Lock 16 to Lock 8 that we could not find a decent place to stay on a wall. So we kept going to SYC and it turned out very well. This is a nice marina with very friendly folks. They go out of there way to help you with your lines and to invite you to all the local activities. For $1.50/ft. this is a nice marina.

Friendliest Stop You Will Find, 2013-08-07
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1394)

Dock Master Zack did a good job handling lines and with the check-in process. This is home for the MTOA Port Captain, he lives onboard. Got invited to camp fire smores and stuff, Saturday Party at the Pool, also met the Commodore and Charter Member Clarkson Farnsworth who gave us a complete tour of the Club House and grounds, all with a lot of history and very nicely kept. Left boat here for seven days while visiting relatives and felt secure in doing so. Definitely a good stop. Not many local services stores etc within walking distance but Dockmaster and members volunteered rides to help. Friendliest folk you will meet are here at the Schenectady New York Yacht Club.

Schenectady Yacht Harbor, 2013-07-21
Captain: , Louisville, KY (80)

This marina on the side of the Erie has limited floating docks. Having said this we were met by Zack who saw that we were safely tied down and given all the needed information. Good power and water and we made good use of the provided propane grill. All the people on the dock were polite, helpful and informative.

Good Fuel Stop, 2013-04-06
Captain: , Mimico Cruising Club ON Canada (1210)

While transiting the canal (both directions) in August of 2012 we had the occassion to stop each time for fuel. Great fuel dock and very friendly staff. The first stop, while eastbound was a very hot day and they were kind enough to let my wife have a swim in their pool while I fueled the boat.

Nice first stop after the waterford flight, 2013-01-31
Captain: , Gloucester, MA (807)

Nice first stop heading west. No frills, but good people.

Nice spot to layover for the night, 2012-10-19
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

Glen, the dockmaster was terrific (althougth he said that at the end of the week he was heading to Florida permanently to get married!). Docks in good shape with easy hook ups. The place needs a bit of TLC, but has recovered well from the storms of last year.

Looper Friendly, 2012-10-07
Captain: , Stoneledge, Cayuga Lake (130)

Glen and crew were very helpful getting us docked up. We spent a rainy day here on our travels. We took a taxi to the Lighthouse Restaurant which was Very good!

A welcoming Yacht Club, 2012-09-15
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (829)

Great place to spend the night. Very accomadating and an easy run up the Erie for a first nights stay. Glen, the dockmaster was very helpful. No resturants nearby but 3 resturants will deliver for a minimum charge. Hot showers, pool and BBQ grills.

Good Stop for deep draft, 2012-08-25
Captain: , Delafield, WI (90)

This club was the only stop we found in the area that could handle our 6' draft. Glad we stopped here. They have nice new docks, a could clean swimming pool. Nice people. The Aqueduct remailns are very interesting.

The highway was a little noisy on the west end. Overall not a big issue. A nice stop.

Great Canal History, 2012-06-21
Captain: , San Francisco (171)

If you are a canal buff this is a must stop. Glen the Dockmaster will give you a tour.

Great fuel price and helpful staff, 2012-06-17
Captain: , prospect, ky (415)

Newly rebuilt docks. Best fuel price around. Helpful staff!

Good stop, Good Service, 2012-06-15
Captain: , Savannah (128)

Arived late in the afternoon and the dock service was enthueastic. Fuel was $3.85/gal diesel. I did not fuel up as I was still pretty high on this tank. The showers and toilet facilities were servicable and clean but not fantastic. The laundry facilities appeared to be in good condition. Only stayed 1 night but would have liked to stay and look around some. Might have been an interesting stop. Thought the fuel price was pretty good.

Secure and quiet, 2012-06-10
Captain: , santa barbara (771)

Stayed one night on trip to Great Lakes - facilities clean, new dock. Location a bit remote, but services accessible by taxi. New fuel tanks, professional service.

Still Recovering, 2012-06-04
Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

The fuel price was one of the best we could find in the area and we made a reservation for the night. They really got hit hard by Irene last year. The docks are new. The grounds are still under repair. The pump out is still under repair. The spirit and helpfulness of the staff is upbeat and very friendly as are the members of the club. We wish them the best as they recover from huricanne Irene.

Saved our boat, saved us, 2011-08-31
Captain: , Sandusky, OH (294)

We arrived the day before Irene hit. One of the members insisted that we park our 43' sailboat at the extreme end of the floating docks that run parallel to the river. He said we would be out of the current and despite the long walk, much safer. The marina is now closed. 50% of the docks were destroyed. Flood waters rose about 16' and washed out all of the ramps going out to the floating docks. We survived without a scratch. We did not even lose power. The members rousted us out of our boat when it became clear that we would not be able to get to land after the ramps washed away. The provided mattresses, food, drink, and offered to run any errands needed. My heart goes out to them and their catastrophic loss. They will be back next season. They are a first class group of people.

Favorite stop, a never miss., 2011-08-17
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)

Small but unique, has laundry, pool, 20 ton lift, $3.96 gal diesel.
Some good restaurants nearby. Internet that works.
Very helpful staff. Thanks Glenn.

Nice place to overnight, 2011-06-29
Captain: , Warsaw, Ky (875)

Pulled in about 6:30 PM and there were 2 people there to assist. Even with the current and wind they made docking easy. Stayed at the fuel dock overnight. Some wakes and they subsided later in the evening.

Staff and other boaters were very helpful and friendly.

Would stay there again.

Not the place you want to spend the rest of your life., 2011-06-26
Captain: , Huron, OH (176)

We pulled into SYC about 4 pm. The people were friendly and two guys waiting on the dock to help with pulling in with the current. The showers were passable but certainly not deluxe. OK for an overnight but probable not someplace you would want to send several days.

Nice Stop after Waterford, 2011-06-15
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

This was a nice stop after Waterford. Very friendly and helpful staff. Other boater were also willing to lend a hand when a 70 foot boat arrived to dock in a 68' space! Facilities were very clean. Will return!

Still a great place to stop, 2011-06-11
Captain: , Rockport, ON, Canada (265)

Great staff, great facilities. Pool was very welcome on a hot day.

Schenectady, 2009-07-01
Captain: , Howard Prairie (510)

We loved this place. Very pleasant staff, they drove to a hotel where my daughter had forgotten her glasses when she flew into Albany to recover them for her and wouldn't even accept gas money from us. Not close to a darn thing but a darn nice place

Really nice people, 2007-06-08
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (118)

Floating docks, fuel, pump out.. The swimming pool and restrooms are spotless.
