Reviews for Saybrook Point Inn and Marina
Aqua Bob Cat, 2017-08-10
Captain: , Charleston SC (450)

Great place to stay, the resturant is great and the food was out of this world yummy. The dock hands were great and know how to handle lines. Make sure to ask for local knowledge of tide/current, but you should be fine. The Staff are more then willing to help out whatever you need.

You're part of the resort!, 2017-08-08
Captain: , East Greenbush, NY (745)

We were looking for a good place to overnight on our way from Newport to Port Jeff so we tried out Saybrook Point Inn and Marina for our first time. The dockmaster who handled our reservations was great. We have a hard time maneuvering in reverse so she gave us a T-Head. We still had to flip around in the narrow fairway, but it was easier than doing it into a piling sided slip. Very much appreciated. They are dog friendly and have a great welcome bag (we got a free mug - always love free mugs). Wifi works very well. They are dog friendly. But the best part is that you have access to the complete resort facility - an outdoor and indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, well stocked exercise room, spa, and restaurant. They have free bikes you can use and a free shuttle that will take you back and forth to various places. We liked it so much we ended up staying for an extra night! Nice people, nice facilities, a little vacation from our vacation.

Nice facilities and staff but some issues, 2017-08-08
Captain: , Glen Cove, NY (62)

The docks and facilities ashore are nice, but there are some issues. The biggest is that the marina is completely exposed the open Sound on the east side. Even on a flat calm night, the swell and passing boats' wakes causes the boats to roll and tug at dock lines constantly. Not a pleasant night's sleep. Other lesser things: the pumpout didn't work, and the bought a gallon of antifreeze only to find later it had been opened and a quart taken out. While it's not part of the marina, the restaurant was over priced for what it served. But the pool was nice.

End of season overnight stay, 2016-09-19
Captain: , Chrisholm Marina (10)

Great place to stay overnight; use of the pools and lockers rooms a great plus...shuttle into town or bikes makes the lack of a car a non-issue. We'll stay again.

Saybrook Point is the BEST!, 2016-09-18
Captain: , Mystic, CT (10)

Every summer my husband and I sail all around Long Island Sound and visit many marinas in southeastern CT, RI, MA and NY. Saybrook Point is by far the absolute best marina around! They have wonderful amenities and service. It's easy to go into the town of Old Saybrook by bikes, which they lend you, They will also shuttle you in to town by car. The restaurant, bars, pools, spa and showers are very nice and clean.

Great marina, great staff, 2016-08-29
Captain: , Shelton, CT (10)

This was our first stay at Saybrook Point and we had a great time. We brought some family members with us so we also had a hotel room. We had a convenient slip to access the pool and restaurant (which had fantastic food).

About the only con is how much you rock in the slip even all the way in like we were. Thankfully from 11pm to about 6am it was dead calm. But I was up at 6am retying lines and adding more fenders. The amount of boaters that go by Saybrook Point at full speed causing big wakes is unreal. Fueling up at the fuel dock bordered on dangerous on a beautiful Sunday morning with all the wakes.

With that being said, we will stay there again. There are not many marinas on Long Island Sound that have hotels rooms too which is convenient for when you have friends or family on board but not enough berth space on board!

Never going back!, 2016-08-22
Captain: , Stony Brook (20)

The dock and facilities were nice, went to the restaurant for dinner and were asked to leave right after we paid the bill, no other explanation was given. Very rude service and poor food.

I was impressed with SaybrookPoint Marina from the moment I hailed the dock master for my slip assignment to the moment I departed. Awesome staff with great attitude and tireless attention to detail.

Nice marina, great staff, 2016-08-02
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (230)

We planned to stay here for 2 nights and ended up staying for 3. The dockmaster (Kate) is a first class professional and gracious host. Marina and surrounding grounds are impeccable. Indoor and outdoor pools were very comfortable. Great electric, water and WiFi. Complementary bikes to ride around town. Put Put golf across the street. A charming stop along LI Sound

Wonderful Stay, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Noank, CT (10)

I could not asked for a better marina to stay at! There was a person at the dock awaiting our arrival to help with docking, great orientation of the place and the amenities from the marina staff, wonderful amenities and quiet location. The only slight blemish would be the restaurant food. The restaurant had a great setting overlooking the marina and the restaurant staff were wonderful. The food was just okay though and the raw little neck clams seemed to have been shucked ahead of time where the water from the ice plate was leaking into the half shells ... should have been shucked on order. The chowder was just okay for New England ... I would likely not eat there again except for maybe a simple appetizer meal. The marina offers free ride and pickup to/from town, so for next time I would likely eat at a restaurant in town instead. I will definitely stay at this marina again! I could not ask for a better marina!

A Great Resort Marina, 2016-07-23
Captain: , Charlottesville (265)

You get what you pay for, (BTW - no AC discount as of 7/21/16). Basically, this is a small resort hotel with a marina attached and you get all the conveniences of a resort hotel. There are two pools (one inside) and the best fitness center I%u2019ve ever seen at a marina. Great showers in the spa/fitness center. The on-demand shuttle works great (lots of great restaurants in town), and they%u2019re happy to help load and unload groceries and will take you to the head of your dock. We rolled a little bit, but certainly nothing troubling. Good WiFi. A little confusing on the entry because their gas dock is right across from Harbor One%u2019s gas dock, but keep north and you%u2019ll be fine. A great place to relax after a few days of %u201Croughing it.%u201D

Excellent service!, 2016-07-14
Captain: , Altantic Highlands (166)

All the recent reviews are right: the service is great. Note that this is not a full service marina -- don't expect the same kind of thing that ou can get from Brewer's Dauntless up the CT river. But if you want a lovely spot and great restaurant and would prefer to avoid the extra miles up and down the river, Old Saybrook is perfect. Note also that the owner is a committed environmentalist, which you see in many ways. That certainly matters to me.

Friendly and Professional, 2016-06-04
Captain: , Lake Burton, GA (150)

Arrived yesterday in the fog from Block Island and Stonington(lunch stop @Dog Watch). Went straight to fuel dock. We are in a Hunt Harrier 25 single diesel. Dock crew was so helpful. Paid $2.90/ gallon, slip for a 25' boat was $4.45/ft. Guess that's the cost of doing business! Docks are in great shape and protected. Very good experience here.

Awesome vacation, 2016-05-31
Captain: , Centerport (10)

One of the best resorts we have ever been to AND we could sleep on our boat in an amazing marina. So worth the extra money. The marina staff was exceptional and very very helpful. The facilities were great (soap and shampoo in the showers) and the food was amazing at the restaurant. I hope to find more great marinas like this one to visit!

Captain: , Annapolis (532)

IT was cold, wet, windy, and rainy when we layed up for the night around midnight. Gratefully, the next morning we in to check in. Steve, the owner / manager was on hand served us a hot breakfast, set us up and was most helpful; as was the rest of the staff. Excellent marina and facilities, albeit a bit pricey. However, you get what you pay for. The marina is first rate and the staff very accomodating.
They called around and got us an appoinment to get fuel next door w/ Paul.

Captain: , Wickford, RI (456)

This is a very nice and well run marina. The staff and owner are very nice and accomodating. On site resturant was excellent.
When the wind in blowing out of the NE, it's very rocky in there.
I definitely will go back, but I'll watch the wind direction.

Why Leave?, 2015-09-01
Captain: , staten island (551)

Title sez it all, on arrival dockhand was friendly and helpful, check in smooth and ez ,arrived at lunch time had a great lunch at the onsite resturant ,at dinner we went to bellman ,extremely nice informative guy who drove us into town showed us the towns 3 best resturants ,he even waited while we looked inside and read which time we decided to go back to salt the resturant at the marina,he agreed saying it was the best resturant in town.... Town was small and it being a sunday pretty much closed
WHY LEAVE ? comes in because the marina has all the amenities indoor pool ,outdoor pool ,sauna, gym ,full spa services.... Of course i was lazy used none but as a Sports Trainer ,when im away i steer clear of fitness and spas .... wife loved em...
SO with everything the offer ,I ask again WHY LEAVE ,we will definatly be back

Terrific staff, 2015-08-20
Captain: , Long Beach Island, New Jersey (183)

I don't think the marina could have bee more accommodating. All hands on deck awaiting our arrival. Secured our vessel and power set up before I even needed to leave the helm. The docks are floating, clean and all have nice long finger piers. At 3.95/foot you're getting a first class facility with some really great options for your crew. Pools, fantastic restaurant, dock bar, live music, shuttle service and location....what more could you ask for?

Watch the price, 2015-05-28
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

Posted price on here is 2.95/ft. When I called to make a reseveration today 5/28 was quoted 3.95 with no discounts available. On top of that they charge 12 dollars for a single 30amp chord.

Great Launching Spot for CT River, 2014-10-25
Captain: , Greenwich Bay, RI (111)

We spent 2 nights here over Labor Day. Great faciliy with great food. The middle day we cruised up the CT River about 10 miles. It was so nice that we dropped the hook and launched the tender for some waterskiing. We rate this over Sag, Montauk and Block, but not Newport.

Great ashore, iffy in the water, 2014-08-20
Captain: , Atlantic Highlands, NJ (10)

We stopped here headed west from Block Island to take a lay day during bad weather. We were placed on G dock (transients) and the motion during the storm was violent. I had to out double spings and stern lines to fight the surge.

When the boat next to us (33' Beneteau) tried to get underway from G-4, they ran aground. There was less than 5' of water in G-4 and G-5 at the time. The staff responded instantly and helped drag him back into the slip (having fouled his prop with a dock line in the process!) They were very friendly and helpful, expressing extreme surprie at the depth, which had been previoulsy dredged to 7'. My guess is that the same surge we experienced brings in lots of silt.

There is a charter fishing boat in G-2. We were awakened by loud voices every morning at 6:00 am as customers came aboard.

The land side was great! The bar and restaurant were excellent. Inddor/outdoor pool is right next to a couple of nice washer/dryer set-ups. My wife had "one of my best massages ever" in the spa.

Would we go back. For the high price, probably not, unless the spa was required!

Inappropriate fee, 2014-06-21
Captain: , Guilford, CT (20)

After dropping over $600 for fuel, we requested a slip while we had lunch in the marina restaurant. We were told it would be $1 per foot for the slip! For two people that would have been more than the lunch, so we moved on.

Service???, 2013-11-20
Captain: , Yarmouth, ME (180)

I guess we expected much better. Waited 2 hrs for shore power, deposit for club access keys not returned, etc, etc.

Over Night Stay, 2013-09-30

Very nice marina with a lot of facilities, staff helpful and friendly. Expensive transit rate for overnight stay on a fuel dock.

From "Gratitude" Krogen 48': Beautiful marina and great people., 2013-09-13
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1007)

Great, great marina. Absolutely LOVE it here. The dock master, Abbie is amazing. Helpful, accomodating and welcoming. The facilities are spotless with a recently renovated SPA and a fantastic restaurant. Best food I've had in a while (ask for Nancy, an amazing server)
Friendly and helpful staff at the Inn, with free shuttle into town. This marina is a must. Great job Abbie!! Can't wait to come back.

Rock n' Roll, 2013-09-13
Captain: , Monmouth Beach, N.J. (20)

We have heard nothing but good things about this marina but I have to say our experience was a bit different. We were placed on G dock as a transient. At certain tide levels the motion in the slip was considerable. Also there was numerous debris such as large floating branches and pieces of dock left on the dock behind us. You pay a lot here and to us the experience did not match the price. At certain tides the floating dock motion on the square piling sounded like a high pitched blaring trombone. We won't be back any time soon. I will say that the dock staff was extremely helpful.

Outstanding facilities, 2013-08-19
Captain: , Montreal, PQ, Canada (560)

This marina offers access to all of the hotel amenities (showers/laundry/pool int and ext/fitness room/etc), so of course, it is a small step above your average marina. A little pricey, but worth the extra $$. The staff is excellent at the docks and around the hotel grounds. They can shuttle you back and forth from the marina to Old Saybrook. Restaurant on site is said to be excellent, we couldn't get in without reservations (on a saturday... duhhhh)

Excellent Dock Staff, 2013-08-19
Captain: , East Coast (184)

The dock staff here is obviously well-trained - professional, courteous and eager to be of service. The dockmaster, Abby, clearly takes great pride in her job and customers' satisfaction. Stayed on a beautiful, brand new, floating concrete dock among friendly permanents. There was only a light west wind blowing but it still got quite a bit rolly in the basin during the day from boats on the river, although nothing too uncomfortable. You can easily see how an easterly would be unpleasant here.
Both the marina bar and restaurant were good.

NEED full fenderboards, 2013-07-26
Captain: , Byram, CT (708)

We tried to get a slip here but the only ones available required us to tie to pilings, no floating docks. We gave it a try but with the wind and current we damaged our topside paint. Decided not to stay and won't be back.

outstanding service and facilities, 2013-07-18
Captain: , ft lauderdale (90)

Abby the dock master really cares about the docks and the boters here. The marina and hotel staff are great. This is my second summer here as a home port and its a great stepping off point for southers New england. 20 miles to sag harbor, greenport, and mantaulk, 40 miles to block, 60 to newport, 100 to Nantucket.

A Must Visit, 2013-07-16
Captain: , Huntington (465)

SP has the best facilities on the Sound with access to full hotel amenities. We used this as a stop-over on our way to Block Island from Manhattan. It had been a few years since we had visited. We stayed at the new outside dock where the current runs pretty good. I thought that we would be rocking and rolling due to boat wakes (Chelsea Pier fear) but 99 percent of boaters in the channel respect 5 mph so rolling really was a non-issue. The young all female dockhands were very helpful and even installed a ladder on the fixed dock for our use. I called for a message for my wife and within an hour she was being pampered at the Spa in the hotel. Everyone at SP was incredibly friendly. The restaurant was fine with a good menu. This place is worth more than just a one night visit and should be on your list of excellent marinas close to the Sound.

Very Nice Stop, 2013-06-24
Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (998)

The marina is basically new with mostly floating docks. The staff is superb both on dock and the hotel. All the hotel aminities are included in the slip fee. New grills are available at every dock and complementary bicycles and shuttle service are the easy to get around.

Very Nice Place, 2012-07-16
Captain: , Aventura, Florida (330)

We stayed here for a while on our trip thru the Long Island Sound. The staff is excellent. The pool is nice. They have a shuttle to take you into town. Town is about 2 miles away. The dock was wooden and fixed we were at. The water was a little dirty. The internet, although free, has a lot to be is slower at most times than regular dial up. The resturant little over priced. The staff more than makes up for thses little problems.

Need help? Owner that cares!, 2012-05-31
Captain: , Newport RI (247)

Got into heavy fog and looking for safe harbor at 9 PM at night. No other marina within miles was answering phones. The bell boy at the hotel had Steve call us back. He gave us clear directions on entering the channel and finding the marina. When we arrived he was on the dock in the rain and mist with helping hands. Once we were secured to the dock he called the hotel restaurant and had the kitchen stay open for a late dinner.

It turns out that Steve was the owner. He went out of his way and it should not go unrecognized.

Despite the fact that the facilities are very nice and the amenities are plenty full, his willingness to accommodate a boater late at night in cruddy weather should be kept in mind by all "Active Captains"

HOTS from Maine, 2011-11-13
Captain: , Maine (73)

Traveling off season from Maine. Trying to find a place gets harder as you get into Nov. Thanks to Abbie for her knowledge and Hospitality we were able to grab a spot. We came in and everything was set up for us. Great facilities. Very clean. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Make sure you use the ammenities. Fabulous. Clean and very accomodating crew.

Great overnight stop, 2011-08-08
Captain: , Jersey City (506)

Stopped here overnight enroute to Newport from NYC.

Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Condition of floating docks was marginal - I've seen better at this price point. Seawater in the marina was gross - more like NYC harbor.

Liked having the pool. The restaurant next door (walking dist) was recommended by a local and had great seafood.

Decent Facilities, 2011-07-08
Captain: , East Hampton, NY (70)

Nicely kept facilities, although not much open space and both pools (indoor and outdoor) are small and could get crowded. Having access to the hotel facilities is great and the fitness center is well above average for a hotel. The onsite restaurant is al ittle pricey, but didn't mind it because the food quality and service were decent.

grat day trip destination, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Greenport, NY (156)

Easy in/out. Sunday brunch is a glutonous treat. Fun to go with a big group. Dock staff very professional and courteous. Wakes from passing boats can make for some pretty good rocking and rolling during tie ups. Not inexpensive.

Staff Not too Polite, 2010-10-16
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

Pricey, and the staff did not seem to be very helpful. Nice facilities.

Beautiful facility, 2010-09-29
Captain: , charleston (771)

Thank goodness a local recommended we stay here. Wish it could have been longer to take advantage of all that was available -- indoor and outdoor pool, spa, fitness center, hot tub, fantastic restaurant (Sunday brunch buffet was bountiful and delicious). Expensive but worth it. Complimentary shuttle service to town. I was driven to West Marine then given a tour around town.

Beautiful Place, 2008-06-12
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (16)

Love this place..Top notch everything...Dockmaster Jeff Howe is very knowlegable. A little pricey, but well worth it. Marina is not well protected in really windy weather, but that is all part of boating isn't it!

Saybrook Point, 2007-02-20
Captain: , Connecticut (7)

The Inn and amenities are great, including the food. Unfortunately rough weather/waves on the Connecticut River can sometime cause significant discomfort. If you choose your stay wisely (not during heavy winds/traffic) a great place to stay.

Top Rating, 2007-01-27
Captain: , Huntington, NY (2311)

This is one of the best marina's in the United States. The facilities are immaculate, the marina construction almost brand new, the ammenities pleanty including indoor swimming, great resturants and bars, and all the facilites of a first class Hotel. If your up for it, a beautiful 30 minute walk (or free bike rental) puts you in a beautiful shopping district on side and anchored with some discount chain stores on the other.

The guest docks are spacious and easy to manuever amoung, this location is a bit exposed to ocean swells, which can make it difficult to sleep aboard in rough weather.
