Reviews for Sara Bay Marina
Nice Place off ICW, 2017-03-22
Captain: , Fort Monroe, VA (949)

Stayed two nights waiting for weather to calm down. Nice marina, well protected harbor, floating concrete docks in good shape, 45' long finger floats, good 50Amp power and water pressure. Combination on gate provided good security. Restaurant with bar on site with reasonable prices. Did not try the pool as it was too cool. Heads and shower facilities were clean and located in breeze way by restaurant. Good alternative to Marina JAcks if you are sight-seeing in Sarasota. This is a dry storrage marina with some transient slips. Call their phone number as you begin to enter their channel as they do not monitor VHF. I draw 4' and saw 4' in several places while entering the channel at one hour before low tide. Strongly suggest entering/departing Sara Bay on a half to high through half down tide. If you draw more than 4', call ahead to ensure the channel can accomodate your draft. Lack of on site laundry and haul out for larger vessels drives this location down to four stars.

We stopped by Sara Bay for one night during a boat delivery. Nice floating docks and an onsite restaurant.

The channel leading in is no east transit though. Stick to the south side of the signage in between the island to the south.

Very Comfortable week, 2016-11-26

We stayed at Sara Bay Marina for a week. The floating, cement dock is behind a coded locked gate. Just before the gate is a social bar called the Bearded Clam and a very nice swimming pool. There are also lockers, showers and bathrooms for those who need them. We ate two wonderful breakfasts at Cragers, 800 feet away. Right next to Cragers is a 7/Eleven. We walked a mile and a half north to a Target and Publix. There are also local bars and francise restaurants north of the marina, in walking distance. Also a laundramat. We went to West Marine and Best Buy using Uber. If you love to walk or have a bike there is a very organized marine surplus near by. Bus stop is right out front, if you want to go to downtown Sarasota. By the way, this marina is very protected from all winds. We don't know why others haven't given it great reviews.

Sara Bay Marina is a storage facility., 2016-05-20

They have spots to store boats out of the water but there is a 50 boat waiting list. Minimun length is 22 feet and it costs $14.00 a foot per month if you rent by the year.
The Bearded Clam restaurant is a fantastic place to eat and there is usually space to dock your boat.

Good place, well protected, 2016-02-21

It can be difficult to spot the channel marks here. Several of them seemed to be missing, but just approach the big white sign, which also acts as a red right returning aid, then just stay in the channel which is to say just don't drive where birds are standing. We draw 4 feet and had no problems at low tide. Bar / Restaurant on site but nothing else. Floating docks is a plus. Call them on the phone when you approach since this isn't a real marina, but more of a place to stay for the night. If you like an out of the way place, then this is a good one. I would stay here again given the overall experience and the money we paid.

Sara Bay Marina, 2015-11-26

SeaLah Expedition Inc has operated out of SBM for 6 years. Our boats Miss Ginger and Miss Ginger II draw 4.5 and 3.5 feet respectively and we have never had any problems accessing the harbor. Floating docks are in average repair however they are all protected so close quarter boat handling is unencumbered even in gale force winds. Very receptive and friendly staff and the on site Bearded Clam Bar and Grill is outstanding. 30 and 50 Amp hookups in excellent repair, very reliable, and recently totally redone. Convenient location for transients, many nearby options for reprovisioning. In terms of storm protection the harbor provides outstanding security and peace of mind.
Wish list: Diesel. SBM currently has no diesel fuel. However Mobile Boat Fuel can truck in orders on relatively short notice.

Rundown, overpriced and uncomfortable, 2015-11-25
Captain: , Worcester (20)

Bought a boat that was docked here by previous owner and stayed about a week to get her ready to move. I was very uncomfortable being on the dock not behind the gate where people would linger around my boat from the hotel. (One hotel guest kicked my shorepower cord tripping the breaker). Night security "patrols" the parking lot only. The bathroom has a steady leak in the middle of the ceiling on top of the only toilet. No hot water and only one of the 3 showers works (cold water only). All of the food is overpriced. 3 out of 3 burgers were cooked well done (no matter how I orderd it), chicken alfredo made me sick. If you NEED to stop just stay for the day and move on ASAP.

Quiet and protected harbor, 2013-05-12
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

Kept the boat here last winter. Jung keeps their charter fleet here, so you can find all sorts of marine help nearby. Floating docks - nice sized slips. Harbor is in a little channel that can be skinny at times - high tides are usually 6-7 ft. More water inside harbor. The Clam is a nice bay with decent bar lunch food - we even ate dinner there once - Shrimp Fra Diavola - it was pretty good. 7-11 and family-style restaurant nearby (great for braekfast. No internet, so one star off. Comments about music no longer applicable - some person on island across the way complained - interesting as we could barely hear it in our slip. Anyway, problem is being worked on, but no music for now.

Protected, quiet, friendly, 2012-10-25
Captain: , NY, NY (42)

Stayed for 7 months during hurricane season. Floating dock is protected by a long channel and neighborhood Great protection during two tropical storms.

Bar at the end of the dock is lively but noise doesn't make it to the outer slips.

Inexpensive and the Dockmaster, Jeff, is both friendly and helpful.

Friendly Marina With Floating Docks, 2011-01-25
Captain: , Dockside Boat Slips (262)

Nice place to stay. Used to be the Cay Club. Has nice floating docks, heated pool, tiki bar. It is within easy walking distance of downtown and a safe place to be in any kind of rough weather. The approach chanel is well marked but boats that need a 5 ft draft or more need to watch the tides. All in all, I would recomend this marina as a great overnight or even up to a week stay. I have stayed there many times and will continue to visit them on my travels.
