Reviews for Santa Marta Marina
Nice marina..insane haul out costs, 2017-09-11
Captain: , Bailey (60)

Have had my boat here for a quite a while. The marina is very nice, and in a great location. However, if you are planning on doing some boat work here, don't. They want almost $1,000 for just a haul out, and after that I guess you are on your own. Make the trip to Cartagena for haul out Feroallqimar, who are reasonable and have a great yard.

What a great marina, 2016-11-01

We are now docked here, planning on staying a few months while exploring the surrounding area. Check in was easy, all paper work carried out by the agent supplied free of charge, by the marina. Everything is in walking distance, or use buses, or taxi's which charge 5000 pesos($2.50) anywhere in the city. Good security.

Great Place to Leave a Boat, 2016-01-18
Captain: , Portland, ME (211)

We left our boat here while we returned home to the states for the holidays. We felt that the boat was very safe and secure. The security in the marina seems excellent. Relative to weather, there can be some high winds at night. We easily found neighoring boats helpful in watching our lines. Someone even added a dock line at one point to hold the boat off the finger pier.

The staff in the marina is very helpful. Navigating customs clearance seems to be challenging but the marina takes care of all the details.

The only downside worth mentioning is that there can be quite a bit of coal dust that blows onto the boats from the commercial port. It is necessary to wash the boat frequently.

The city of Santa Marta seems quite safe. We walked all over the city both day and night. There is plenty of groceries stores very convenient to the marina. There is no marine store but the basics can be found in the local ferriterias or at the Home Goods store in the Bienevistas Mall.

For inland tours, we took a cab to Minca for 50 mil pesos for a hike in the mountains and a visit to the coffee plantation. We also took a commercial tour to visit rivers and waterfalls in the surrounding mountains.

Santa Marta is a great first stop coming from the Windward Passage or Eastern Caribbean.

Novemeber 2015, 2015-11-25

Stayed here for a few days after crossing in November from Cartegna. Had a good weather forecast but had quite challenging seas at time coming across, price of going east in November. Santa Marta is a great Marina easy access easy clearance in and out they handle everything. Very secure , Fuel dock is easily accessible. Docks are clean and well cared for, good power, decent but not great WIFI, plus Santa Marta is a relatively safe and fun town to walk around in. For us this was a must stop that turned into a pleasant surprise.

Marina Santa Marta, 2015-08-15
Captain: , St Helier, Jersey (36)

Santa Marta is a superb marina with excellent security and facilities with a good selection of restaurants and an ATM on site. The staff are all very friendly and polite and extremely helpful. Checking in was quick and easy with Kelly who speaks very good English and has a wonderful disposition, with the legal formalities being carried out by Jonathon, both of these young people are a real credit to the marina. There are no agent%u2019s fees to be paid as the marina offers this service inclusive of their rates, a real bonus. On site chandlery should appear soon. Fuel dock and travel lift now operational.
Santa Marta is a fun and lively city where the people are extremely friendly and helpful. There are many bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. An industrial area around Calle 11; Carrera 11 has a multitude of suppliers where almost everything can be obtained; it%u2019s just a matter of exploring to find what you want!
The marina makes an excellent base to leave a boat while exploring further afield the surrounding attractions that Colombia has to offer.

Excellent security and service, 2015-06-24

Excellent. Agent Fee included in price.

Nice marina, friendly staff, 2014-08-16
Captain: , San Francisco (70)

This is a nice modern marina with helpful staff. The town is worth exploring for a couple of days and Cartegena is a 1/2 day bus trip away. My only complaint is that the water was frequently cut off due to water shortages the town was experiencing. As a result, the bath rooms were not clean. Not sure that the staff can be blamed for this one.

Santa Marta Marina a Great Stop, 2013-09-13
Captain: , London (20)

Santa Marta Marina
Our stay in Santa Marta Marina in 2012 was a great experience. We found the staff courteous, helpful and eager to please. They went out of their way for us on many occasions. Upon our arrival our dockside power had a connection fitted to suit our boat within the hour.
The facilities are new and cared for well, particularly the air-conditioned Captains room which had work stations for computers and a modular lounge suite. The ablutions block was not always working correctly which was no thanks to the installation of modern automatic equipment that Columbian engineers have yet to master.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area and we occupied our 3 month stay easily with short day excursions and longer weekends to places like Cartagena and Minca. We certainly felt safe walking around Santa Marta visiting the magnificent local restaurants at night and markets by day. You could generally find anything you wanted, if you knew where to look. We even had our fuel and tanks polished during our stay.
I know Santa Marta Marina is still in the process of building the marina completing their fuelling station while we were there and commencing on the restaurants on site as we left. The marina shop was going through some changes and we saw plans for a lift out and repair facility on site.
We wish Santa Marta Marina all the best in attracting business. Columbia is certainly going through some big changes and now is the time to visit.

Comfortable Base to Explore Colombia, 2012-11-28
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (346)

Beautiful marina conveniently located within the historic district of Santa Marta. Fluent English-speaking staff are available during business hours. 24-hour security is provided. There was much international cruising traffic here during our stay and the marina is used by many as a home base to explore Colombia. The marina can experience surge at times and good chafe protection was needed to protect lines from the rough cleats. There is much to do within walking distance including shopping & dining. Inexpensive city taxis (about $2.40 US) were plentiful. The local people are friendly and tolerant of poor Spanish speakers. We felt safe on walking expeditions within the recommended neighborhoods. Victor Abello agency handled the interface with Colombian customs/immigration/port authorities for a 2-month stay and we give them high marks. Contact Ana Cecelia: (English/Spanish)
