Reviews for Sandwich Marina
canal transit, 2016-08-09
Captain: , Danvers MA (60)

used Sandwich Marina for refueling when passing the Cape Cod Canal - low prices for gas and excellent service.

Not There Yet, 2016-07-17
Captain: , Portland, ME (200)

With all the on going construction this has the possibility of becoming a very attractive stop along the canal. Easy access to the walking path along the canal. The marina is a little tight, but room to maneuver. Excellent internet signal.

When the marina construction project is complete, and the crew trained, this could easily be a four star marina. Before then try for A or B dock, the other docks are a long to the shower and heads again a walk lenghtened due to construction.

Attentive Service, good location, 2016-07-02
Captain: , Wickford, RI (411)

Stayed here June 29. Efficient help on docks. 24hour on site security. Nice cement floating docks. Friendly seasonal slip owners.
Plenty of good areas for dog walking. Easy walk to stores and restaurants.
A new fish market and restaurant is close to completion right next door.
Canal current runs hard so be careful with your approach into the Marina. Once you get in there is no current. Completely protected and quiet.

Well-run marina; pleasant town, 2016-06-25
Captain: , Amelia Island (140)

Well-run marina in aperfect location to prepare for a westward transit of the canal. Absurdly high electric charge; $12 for a single 30-amp service. Beautiful new bathrooms/showers located a 5-minute walk away at the boat ramp may be a little small during the busy season.

Stopover on way to Maine, 2016-02-02
Captain: , Rockland, ME (11)

Spent one night at the marina. Staff was very helpful and friendly. We stayed away from all the boat traffic due to the ramp. The boats do go out all night as the strippers were hitting hard and heavy. The showers were more than adequate. It was a short walk to the local restuarant, which was packed so I recommend that you make reservations. Also, suggest that you get your fuel when you come in to prevent waiting if you want to get an early start.

Very Handy for Canal Transit , 2015-09-16
Captain: , Southport, ME, USA (1158)

Almost everything you need:
dockage, fuel, water, groceries, hardware, liquor store and ice cream, but no dock carts!

Busy Place, Well Run, 2015-08-23
Captain: , New Bedford, MA (76)

We did a our own tour of the canal, up on one tide, back on the next. Stopped here for lunch and a little sight seeing while the tide turned. Very busy little harbor. $10 per hour to tie up. Way woth it. Very helpful, friendly staff. Will go again and visit the town.

stay somewhere else, 2015-08-18
Captain: , Salem (10)

I spent a night there after a late afternoon transit landed me at the dock at 8 pm. We did not want to sail through the night so this was the only option. It cost $75 for an end dock near the fuel dock. This is busy all night long (very busy boat ramp) and then the working boats start up at dawn. After a week island hopping down south this was a shock. As bad as ours was i feel bad for the sailbaot near the boat ramp. They must have put in at least 50-75 small fishing boats. Stay on the other side and wait till morning is my advice.

Great stop for fuel!, 2015-05-07
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale, FL (100)

Easy in and out. Current diesel price $3.20.

Great Stopover, 2014-09-30
Captain: , Lincroft (134)

Stayed one night 7/21/14 on way to Provincetown. Very friendly, great Ice Cream shop 5 minute walk away. Full grocery store, hardware and other shops are only about 10-15 minutes walk away. Clean shower facilities, WiFi very weak. Stopped again for fuel several days later and quick in out with great prices.

Great stop or extended stay, 2014-09-06
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1134)

Sandwich is one of the best run municipal marinas anywhere. Efficient and friendly staff, competitive fuel and good power. Complex houses both pleasure and local fishing fleet as well as Coast guard station. Easy in out...watch the current...of the Canal.

Good restaurant across the street.

Good fuel stop in the Canal east entrance, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (370)

Really convenient place for fuel, good dock staff. And you can hang for a bit if the current is foul....

Excellent Destination , 2014-08-31
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (970)

We consider this Marina to be a destination rather than a stopover.

Friendly, efficient staff are welcoming and offer competitive fuel pricing. You will find good provisioning a short hike from the Marina and a nice restaurant is just a cross the road.

This is quiet and well kept facility with a Coast Guard Station on site to keep you safe, and you can enjoy Revelry, Taps, and various broadcast announcements to the troops.

Charming, 350 year old Sandwich village lies about a mile away and offers shops and fine dining. A small fishing fleet keeps things interesting in the harbor.

Ride your bike or walk to town or alongside the canal on dedicated paths.

Highly recommended!

6-24-2014 great stay stores and food close by. friendly helpful staff, 2014-06-28
Captain: , Falmouth Maine (80)

Friendly staff, well protected marina, food stores, hardware, restaraunt, ice cream all with a 10 minute walk. Highly recomended.

Overall great experience, 2013-10-23
Captain: , Vancouver (510)

Telephone call to this marina was answered promptly on long weekend. The 2 gentlemen who met us were helpful in getting us tied up in the wind but were a smidgeon too busness-like for my tired body (after having sailed from Shelburne NS, Canada). Super clean and hotel-like shower facilities - good shelter from wind and wave. The fuel attendant lent me his truck to run to grocery store about 2 miles away. Great restaurant right on marina property. Definitely will go back.

Sandwich Marina, 2013-09-15
Captain: , Wrightsville beach nc (180)

Cheapest fuel in the area 14 Sept 2013. Very easy in and out.

Easy In And Out for Refueling, 2013-08-31
Captain: , Bridgeport, CT (548)

We stopped to refuel heading both East and West going through the CCC this summer. It is a very easy exit out of the Canal and completely out of the current. The fuel dock is on the North side just after you enter the harbor. The service personnel are prompt and helpful.

Quick Stop, 2013-07-24
Captain: , Boston, Ma (161)

Friendly, clean, convenient and a short walk to the "Ice Cream Sandwich." We stopped here on the way through the canal to Newport and and on the way back. Slips only, $70 a night, plus $12 for 30 amps. The strippers were running so the kids walked down to the edge of the canal and did a little fishing. With the current running at 4 knots, I had them wear their life jackets. And you have to be able to cast a good thirty yards to get off the rocks and reach the fish out in the canal.

Great stop, 2013-07-09
Captain: , Wickford, RI (937)

We stopped here last night (7/8/13) as we make our way to Boston. Great location, friendly people, two restaurants within walking distance. Although restrooms and showers are not near by, they are impeccably clean.
Fuel today 7/9/2013 was $4.00 per gallon.
Looking forward to coming back.

Good for waiting for the current to turn, 2013-06-19
Captain: , Boston (331)

A basic marina with fuel dock. Not much to do or see, but it is an excellent place to wait for a favorable current through the canal. I've never made a reservation but have never been turned away.

Storm Shelter, 2013-06-03
Captain: , Saint Augustine (70)

While heading South we stayed here for two nights waiting out a Southernly blow. The marina has concret floating docks. The dock hands were friendly and helpful. Expect to lay down some cash. We were directed to tie up behind the fuel dock near the entrence of the harbor. It was easy to get into. The bathroom and shower house is quite a walk from the fuel dock.

A Great Place To Stop, 2013-05-02
Captain: , Halifax N.S. (40)

Pulled into Sandwich Marina for the night to rest. My wife said the showers were spa like compared to what we had been using in the days before hand.

The marina staff were so friendly and accommodating. Being such a lovely day we spent an extra night and took advantage of being able to walk around the town of Sandwich.

I will recommend this stop to anyone passing through.

Convenient stop when transiting the Cape Cod Canal, 2012-12-30
Captain: , Kingman Yacht Center Cataumet, MA (223)

Newly renovated bath/showers. Cheapest diesel in the area. Good water. Marina has a pumpout boat.
Close to groceries, restaurants, hardware, Sandwich Ship Supply is close and very helpful, liquor store and Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center next to the fish Mkt.
Town of Sandwich is a short walk away.

Great Stopping Point for Cape Cod Canal, 2012-09-10
Captain: , Seattle, WA (414)

Great stopover at Cape Cod Canal. Great bathrooms/showers (a bit of a hike). Close to groceries/liquor/hardware. Don't miss the Cape Cod Visitors Center which was very informative.

Real Surprise!, 2012-07-27
Captain: , Hilton Head (130)

Located right at the East end of the CC Canal this is a great stop over on the way to Boston and points north. The facilities are a bit on the commercial side but the staff was helpful. There are two fun fish houses across the road BUT the best thing is the town of Sandwich a couple of easy miles walk away. Lots of history, a really interesting glass museum and some nice shops and restaurants. Really a fun surprise!

17 May 2012, 2012-06-13
Captain: , Delaware City, DE (60)

Bathrooms nice, but a bit of a hike from dock. Personnel hard to get hold of after hours (5PM) Great layover while waiting for favorable current in canal.

Very secure refuge, 2011-10-29
Captain: , Biddeford, Me. Saco River (90)

This place really makes you feel safe and protected. The staff are very helpful and willing to work with you. Wonderful place to tie up for a night or more going north of south when playing the tide. Remember the flow is toward the SW end of the canal when high tide hits Sandwich. Very slow going agaist the tide here... The Sandwich Marine is very practical and a true haven.

THE PLACE TO CHOOSE DURING HEAVY WEATHER, 2011-09-09
Captain: , Oriental, NC (1148)

The Sandwich Marina is the former Harbor of Refuge. It is very well protected and has fuel and water. The showers and heads are pretty far from most places in the marina. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's a great place to stop for the night and wait for a favorable tide for transiting the Canal into Buzzards Bay.

Great fuel stop, 2011-06-13
Captain: , hingham (161)

Marina staff is freindly. Fuel prices are always very good. I make a point of stopping on my way to the cape to avoid on cape prices. Active port but well protected from the wind.

Great Stopover before heading north or west, 2010-10-16
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

Well protected, a little pricey, but good folks and fuel. Nice facilities, but a long walk to showers from many spots.

Nice Stop on the Canal, 2010-06-25
Captain: , Edenton, NC (115)

Very nice fuel stop immediately inside entrance to Cape Cod Canal. Did not stay there, only bought fuel, but would be a perfect stop for late arrivals before transiting the canal. Very good service.

Very convienient overnight, 2010-04-23
Captain: , York, ME (1880)

We usually time our transit of the Canal to spend the night here if possible. In addition to fuel and a well protected harbor for the boat, there are a couple of nice restaurants (one upscale, one cafeteria style fried fare) and a fish market close by. Also nearby is the Canal information center. This is a fascinating stop, plus you can pick up your current tables here. Some people bring lawn chairs to the info center to watch the mega yatchs steam through the canal.

The marina itself is down-to-earth, with a mix of seasonal boaters, transients, fishermen and trailer boaters. Wireless Internet is availabe free, just ask for the key (code) at the marina office.

No Frills, but very nice, 2009-12-18
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (588)

Stayed there twice this summer and it was a good experience. Not a lot of facilities close but not bad. It is a great place to wait out the current from the cannal if you happen to be going the wrong way.

A perfectly functional place to stop, 2009-08-09
Captain: , Boston (601)

It's not fancy, there's no town without a hike and only one restaurant. But it's the a safe, secure stop if you need to wait for the canal current to change or you don't want to enter Buzzards Bay's late afternoon wind and waves. The dock staff was very accomodating in assisting with lines.

Sandwich Marina, great seafood market, 2009-02-19
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (5686)

We always stop here on our way to and from Maine. There is a supermarket and liquor store within walking distance (down the road and take a right) and what has to be one of the best seafood markets on the east coast. It's just east of the entrance to the harbor on the water and has a fantastic layout of seafood, everything imaginable. We always buy fresh seafood there and have a feast onboard. The seafood market alone is worth the stop!

A handy stop, 2007-09-13
Captain: , Charleston, SC (53)

Marina is located at the Cape Cod Bay end of the Cape Cod Canal and very convenient in and out. Marina is part commercial fishing, part recreational fishing, and part pleasure craft.
