Reviews for San Juan Bay Marina

Tried to stay at the other marina but they were full so we stayed here. We enjoyed the stay inspite of the water fee. Arrived after dark no problems. San Juan PR is a wonderful place with good food at good prices and friendly people. Uber rides are cheap. While there we visited the El Morro Fort and went to the rainforest and water falls. Eat at the food court just across the bridge. It is a food court but with many types of high end restuarants and a bar. It is really a fun place.

Hidden Fees, avoid like the plague, 2016-02-11

Had to come into San Juan for an emergency. Stopped in the night time and docked and waited till morning. The channel was well lit for the most part. In the morning we got in touch with the office and communicated $2 a foot. Bathrooms and showers were decent, $2 to wash clothes, $2 to dry. Avoid the sizzler restaurant. The problem itself was not with the marina facilities, but with management, about 3 days later we discovered the marina across the channel was only $1.50 a foot. We went to square up with SJBAY and were charged $25 a day for water, we never so much hooked up a hose. This charge was not communicated to us in the beginning, management said it is a flat rate for all boats. Marina across the channel is free water. Will never go back to SJ Bay Marina.

marina is OK friendly staff, rates moderate, diesel pumped right at your slip, convenient to get around all of old San Juan, showers and bathrooms marginal, in slight disrepair.

Security is great. Best marina for 100 miles, but should be better.

No internet, no hot water, and no dryers, 2014-12-19

No internet. The marina doesn't have its own internet. They tell you to tap into the Sizzler restaurant which is above marina office. But the Only way to get on is to physically sit in the restaurant, so in effect there is no internet at all.
Security is poor. Gates are left open and guards are never visible although they say they are there.
The marina office often doesn't have keys to give you to the gates - or the bathrooms - so those are left open, or you have to find Hector who may be around on his golf cart - to let you in.
Dock is concrete, not floating (but that's typical in San Juan and many places in PR), so best safe way to secure your boat is to tie it up to the poles that are on the outside to keep the boat away from the concrete, so it doesn't grind down your fenders in wind/waves.
Seaplane flies low overhead several times during the day but you get used to it.
Fellow cruisers staying in the marina are friendly. Several are long-term residents. Many fishing boats.
There are some shops at the end of the dock including a reasonably well-equipped marine store and a sandwich shop.
If you have a car, you can keep it in Sizzler's secure parking lot.
Good lighting (blue) at each marina slip.
Electricity at each slip.
They will bring diesel fuel right to your boat - you just tell them how much you want. Be prepared - the diesel is green, not pink.
Location is good. You can walk to Ashford St restaurants easily. Old Town is a short cab ride ($15). Convenient to the airport too
North Shore of PR has only one protected harbor, which is San Juan, and there are just two marinas here: SJBM and Club Nautica. CN doesn't have room for catamarans, so you really don't have a choice. Request being on the far side of the blue building with the bathrooms and laundry. That's a bit safer and where the nicer boats are. There are large yachts at the end of SJBM's dock.
When you leave the property, don't turn right and go past the Hyatt House. That's a very bad neighborhood. Turning left and crossing the bridge is the safer route.
SJM needs TLC - the laundry was very dirty. Machines and the laundry room looked as if they had never been cleaned. The washing machines (2) were so dirty that it was a challenge to get your clothes out without picking up more dirt from the rim of the machine. However, since the Washing Machines dribbled such a slow flow of water that the clothes didn't get clean anyway, what did it matter. The Dryers ate your money ($2 per load for both washing and drying) and didn't work. Maritza in the office did return the money the machine took, but it was mindboggling that the laundry room could be so dirty.
There was no hot water in the showers or laundry.
Club Nautica, nearby but without space for catamarans, has an ice machine, is clean, has excellent security fencing and guard, and a nice marina store)

Great location... Great people
Famous Bill Butler (66 days afloat) walks the dock every night with his dog Pico.. Say Hi you will have an instant friend
Stayed 2 months during hurricane season.. then a couple weeks heading back north.. Learn the bus system... .75 cents to old san juan.. Walmart.. etc.. You can even get to the huge Mall
Reserve your rental car from Enterprize online then walk over.. we could get the car for $19 a day many times
You can anchor just off the marina if you chose to.. bottom is not great, so we use 2 anchors

Was planning to stay a few weeks... Stayed a few months! THe marina is excellent; friendly staff, reasonable rates, diesel pumped right at your slip, convenient to get around all of San Juan, easy to walk to local attractions, bars, and grocery stores. Rental cars also in walking distance. Everything you want in a great marina, except for the nice showers and bathrooms. They are mostly clean, but dark and gloomy and in slight disrepair. The bath on the far left of the bayside does have hot water!

So if you're looking for good food, go to old San Juan, nightlife go to Condado, late nightlife go to Isla Verde. A good Thursday or Friday night for food and drinks - La Placita!!

If you cab around, make sure to get the rate first. $10-15 per cab should be all you pay, if they say more, tell them you paid $10 or $15 last time and the will accept.

friendly staff, reasonable rates, customs walks around like thugs, try to intimidate, ignore them and they go away. PEREZ(customs) big ass, will lie to give you a fine if he can't intimidate you. Only problem with marina is you have to deal with US customs
