Reviews for Sail Harbor Boatyard
Great People, Good Work, Reasonable Boat Yard Rates, 2016-05-14
Captain: , Southport, NC (637)

We started the Great Loop here at Sail Harbor and had several repairs done before we left in Late September 2014. This year, after completing the loop we chose Sail Harbor to do our bottom paint, zincs and some minor repairs. We could not have been more pleased with the work and treatment from Steve and his crew. They went out of their way to schedule the work to coincide with our travel plans.

The marina owners are great. When the mail was not delivered by 3pm, they went out of their way to drive back to the marina to check the mail and delivered our meds late Saturday evening.

Ten Stars Would Be My Rating, 2016-04-30
Captain: , Oriental, NC (30)

I have been to this yard twice. Both times repairs were done well, as fast as humanly possible, and the charges were less than expected. It is hard to love a boat yard, but I love this one. Wonderful staff and management. Highly, highly recommended!

Sail Harbor rocks, 2016-04-20
Captain: , Savannah Georgia (10)

We will go back to sail harbor for future work

A great boatyard where the employees practice the "Golden Rule", 2016-02-12
Captain: , Savannah, GA (320)

We scheduled our boat for haul-out in September 2015. We had the bottom painted, props tuned, new exhaust elbows built and installed new parts installed on Gen set and the hull waxed. We ask for a quote estimate and time frame for all the required repairs. Low and behold, the cost was LOWER than the estimate, even though the time frame ran longer, because we added additional small repairs. Now it is February 2016 and we are back having a new holding tank installed. Service is again spot on and Steve, Matt, Mark, Mauro and Dallas could not have made our visit more pleasant. Friendly, efficient, great repairs, 2015-09-14
Captain: , Yorktown, VA (952)

We called ahead due to a recommendation from a MTOA Port Captain as we needed repair of an AC, advising them we would reach them in two days.
They were full with no room for us but advised us to come ahead and they would find room for us.
We arrived on Thursday afternoon and the mechanic was on board almost before we had the boat secured. They put us on the travel lift dock with little room to lift boats but they happily worked around us.
Mickey, the great mechanic, diagnosed the problem as the air handler motor which he had removed by the end of the day.
First thing Friday morning, he took the motor to be rebuilt but had to purchase a new one, returning to the boat. As he was installing the repaired unit with my help, the copper tubing split, causing the Freon to leak.
Back to the store he went for tubing to replace the Freon line to the air handler and recharge the system with R22. They moved us from the travel lift to the face dock so we were able to stay.
Mickey diligently worked all day until way after 5 pm to get it all back together so we had AC again. When the tubing broke, we thought it would delay us until Monday but Mickey was great working so hard to get the job completed.
The entire marina and boatyard staff are professional, friendly, efficient, and the cost was extremely fair. We observed other work being done like fiberglass and paint work and it looked exceptional.
We decided to stay an extra day which was no problem. We had offers for use of private vehicles, had a doctor recheck an injury that saved us from finding an Urgent Care, and meet many very friendly boaters on the docks.
We would highly recommend this marina for not only a stay but for any repair you may need.

Good place to have some work done, 2015-05-24
Captain: , New York (251)

Had my new (to me) boat hauled here for bottom paint and detailing near start of trip north. I found Steve and his group very easy to work with. The prices were fair and I'm satisfied with the work. There was some chaulking in my yellow hull and they got it looking like new
Be careful of the current. It runs like crazy and outgoing will drive you into the boats and or dock buy the travel lift if you're not careful

Had my boat in for a bottom, 2015-03-18
Captain: , Savannah GA (2861)

Took my boat by in early march to have the bottom painted. Turned out she had some blisters. First time in 20 years. Didn't like that. The Sail harbor did a great job fixing the blisters; painting the bottom; replacing the zincs; and waxing the hull. The boat look so great I didn%u2019t want to put in back in the water to have stuff start to grow on it. Price was great also.

GREAT Place to have your boat worked on, 2014-11-27
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (180)

We are traveling south and need to have the swim platform repaired. With the boat on the hard, I would have the yard put a coat of paint on the bottom. The estimate for all work was VERY reasonable. Due to being live-aboard we needed the work perform in a short period of time. Steve was very accommodating and would have me back in the water in 3 days weather permitting. Once the boat was hauled out, it was apparent the boat needed to be repainted. Steve told me he would need another day but would have me in the water on Thursday. The boat was hauled on Monday. I was at the boat every day and was pleased with work and the progress they were making. The weather was not the best but Steve had the workers take advantage of the warm period of the day to get my work done. I will be back when it is time to have the bottom painted or to have the boat hauled out. Thank you Steve and the entire crew at Sail Harbor and Boatyard

Great place to visit Savannah, 2014-11-12
Captain: , New Bern, NC (476)

$1.25 a foot per night. Limited transient dockage. Great staff.
Depths on charts are wrong. 3.9 feet throughout the entrance is not correct.
To get in line up green marker 27 on the stern and head for the first private dock, than turn about 50 feet away from first dock and head to second private dock. Right after passing second dock head straight for the marina. Depth is around 9 feet MLW.
1.5 mile walk to Stores and bus to Savannah. $1.50 each way and about an hour into town.
Boatyard is great for any repairs.

Great yard and Marina, 2014-11-08
Captain: , Greenville SC (250)

Had our boat stored for the summer, and then the bottom painted. Also had some canvas repairs done. Everything was done well and reasonably priced. The marina is in a great location for access to stores. Will definitely return.

This is one of the best boat yards around, 2014-07-06
Captain: , Corpus Christi (221)

I am totally satisfied....I can't believe the comments from the last poster...I stopped in here coming from the Chesapeake going to Texas. Richard met us on the dock late at night...he talked us in via a cell phone...I found his dock rate better than anyone else in Savannah .....I found the yard exceptional great to work with. The bottom job paid for itself on the balance of the trip to Texas. Richard gave us a ride to the Airport to pick up a rental car and looked fete the boat while I was away. There was a bad storm coming in and Richard and his crew moved my boat from the outside to the inside slip to protect my boat from incoming storm....I can't find any fault with this Marina or the yard. Work was great, people were great and I loved the location....If I am ever in the area again...I will stay here. I don't know why the guy who just wrote the bad review had this problem...but I do know if he had picked up the Phone and called the Longs....there would have been no problem...If he had put into the Hinckley yard or the Thunderbolt Marine....he would be writing about price of work....There are some people out there who bitch about everything....but this yard is not one to bitch about....apparently the other reviewer hasn't been in a South Florida yard...( you spend a lot of money and get treated like the proverbial "Red Headed Step Child"...

Unreliable, 2014-05-05
Captain: , Little River, SC (1967)

This is the second time that we tried to stay here and when we arrived no one responded to the radio and no one answered the phone. Tried both phone numbers to no avail. This time we even had a reservation and made arrangements for a mechanic to look at our engine. We anchored out two extra days to get there on a Monday when the mechanic was available. Could not get a hold of anyone by radio or telephone to give us docking instructions. Sat out in front of their docks for 35 minutes waiting for some sort of response. We could not see any space where would could dock. We had reservations! Finally gave up and left, they never bothered to call us back. I would stay away from this marina.

Any Port in a Storm?, 2014-01-29
Captain: , Richmond Hill, GA, USA (20)

Was here for a year refitting a boat that had previous neglectful owners.

Yard would not give estimates on work. Yard was reluctant to do work when I was at the boat. Scheduled work was rarely done when scheduled. Fuel valves bypassed and system left bledding air, hoses not rated for fuel installed in system, engine coolant imporperly filled, masthead light was never wired beyond base of mast.

Docking is side-tie and ooats very closely spaced.

Yard work, 2014-01-29
Captain: , Savannah GA (131)

The yard crew did an excellent bottom job on my 42 express cruiser, and were cooperative in coordinating the various maintenance items with me. I will be a repeat customer.

Rustic but okay never the less, 2014-01-22
Captain: , New Bern, NC (466)

This is not a yacht club, but they were helpful and accomadating. Gave me a weekly rate and loaned me a car. Free laundry. Internet would only reach as far as the laundry room. No lounge. It is really more of a boat yard.

Great Boat Yard with a marina, 2013-11-20
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

The previous review says it all. Great people work here and they do a good job at reasonable pricing. If you are looking for fancy and close to the hubbub of Old Savannah, this is not it, but if you want work done on you boat and a place to stay that is convienient to stores, restaurants and nice people then you found it here. They know what they are doing and they do it right.

Great to stay and have work done on the boat., 2013-09-22
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

We had the boat here for 7 weeks for refitting after purchasing the boat in Savannah. 5 weeks on the hard, 2 weeks in the water in the marina.
This is a boatyard with a marina. The boatyard allows you to do your own work above the waterline on your boat. Within a mile are an Ace Hardware with a wide selection of stainless steel fasteners, a Dollar Tree, a Publix grocery and a Kroger Grocery, Subway, McDonalds, Papa John's, and Chinese takeout. A Walmart is about 10 minutes away by car.
Steve, the boatyard manager, and his crew are competent and helpful. Charges are very reasonable and they only do what is needed. We had a bottom job, outdrive repaint, mechanical work on both the outdrive and engine, the 4.5 kw genset removed, and other small tasks done.
The marina is basic. Floating docks with 30amp, 50 amp, and water. Heads and showers are a little worn but clean. Ice is $2.50 for 20 lbs. The laundry works. Wifi on the marina docks. Not luxury, but everything we needed.

Love Sail Harbor, 2012-11-09
Captain: , West River, MD (20)

We have been here twice, and both times found them professional and extremely accommodating. There is nothing fancy about Sail Harbor, but don't be put off by first impressions. They do extremely good boat work here very friendly people on the dock. It's not super cheap, but competitive with those around. We'll definitely come back. We got the bottom painted, engine serviced and some minor gel coat work, and believe that they do fine work here.

Been stopping here for years, 2012-04-29
Captain: , Winterport, Me. (244)

It is sometimes hard to contact anyone at the marina, but we have stopped here usualy twice a year and have been told to "just find a spot". We sometimes arrive in the night from off shore and can usualy find a place. If not there is a nice place to anchor just a bit further up Taylor creek and Dick will shuffle boats and make us a spot the next day. We seem to always stay a week even if we don't intend to when we get here. It feels like home to us a long ways from Maine. Last fall when we needed to replace our battery charger he loaned us one and picked up the new charger from West Marine at the WM price. Very nice and this is why we keep stopping. Thanks again, Dick

Nice Place - Nice yard too, 2012-04-17
Captain: , Balmer (150)

We stayed here a week or so. Very comfy. You can catch a bus to Downtown Savannah for sight seeing and it's worth doing. We had a glass repair and paint patch done here. Nice work. Great price.

Working Marina, 2011-11-29
Captain: , Marathon (275)

We liked this marina. We were almost as far away from the facilities as one can get but the heads and showers were clean. Everyone was friendly. It looked like a busy boat yard when we where there in November. Grocery store and liquor store are a healthy walk but if I can make it 99% of the boaters can make it! I would stop again.

Was towed in - very helpful getting parts, 2011-05-13
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (384)

Kittiwake was towed in from so of St Catherines Sound and spent 6 days working on her. Staff was very helpful in finding me parts, weekly rate was reasonable

Home Marina, 2010-12-15
Captain: , Atlanta, GA (64)

Sail Harbor is my homeport. Dick and Bev are great people and very helpful. The marina had 3 bathrooms and a laundry facility and is within one mile of grocery store, pharmacy, banks, restaurants, hardware store, etc (also accessible by dinghy). Had the boat yard do bottom paint and other repairs - excellent workmanship at a fair price.

Transient , 2009-11-15
Captain: , New Bern,nc (75)

Stayed there for 4 days due to a storm. Very friendly and helpful. Dick and Bev were great. 3 showers, clean and good.

Nice inexpensive yard, 2009-11-13
Captain: , Mystic, CT (270)

Dick & Bev and their staff are very friendly and helpful. They'll even let you use their own car to go to the nearby grocery stores! It's very laid back here and you might have trouble contacting them as they don't monitor VHF. The marina is right off the ICW so access is easy. The bus to Savannah is a mile away and they'll give you a ride there. Bathrooms and showers are clean and there is a laundry.

a rip off, 2009-04-10
Captain: , montreal (50)

they charge per LOA that they create...adding 3 or 4 foot to your registered length, the 1.25 - .25 for boat us as reported in skipper boat has been changed to 1.50...
the docking is very tricky as the marina is very exposed and badly configured.

for 7 dollars more you can find closeby a professional staff and a much better marina...

very disappointing, especially since we had called them in advance... the person on the dock could not even catch a line!!!

Good safe place to keep your boat., 2008-10-05
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay (592)

I have left boats here for a month or two on my trips south during two different years. The place is friendly, secure--I have had no problems. It is a long walk, or short bike ride to library with Internet, shopping and restaurants. Call on the telephone--don't count on the radio. I presume they welcome transients as space allows.
