Reviews for Sabine Pass Port Authority
Good Bailout from gulf, 2017-05-03
Captain: , Galveston Texas (315)

Clean showers and friendly staff. Days of courtesy rides to the store or town are passed. Charged $80 for ride into town to get some diesel oil.

Nice stop / Have plenty of bug spray with you!!, 2017-03-21
Captain: , Beaumont, TX (310)

Not much here but is a nice stop to get out of the weather or break up your trip. Easy access from off-shore as the marina is only 6 miles inland from the jetty entrance but is a little out of the way if traveling the ICW. This is a sleepy town with only 1 gas station and no stop lights. Marina is mainly used by fishermen but there are a couple of liveaboards that are very kind and helpful. Fuel is available by credit card only but is available 24/7. There is a pump out station and it is self serve. Sometimes you'll have to ask the security guard to reset the breaker to the pump out. For some reason it randomly trips the breaker and the Marina staff don't seem to try to fig out the root cause. Guards and Liveaboards are very kind/helpful. Most will offer to give you a ride to the one and only gas station type baitshop/store. Not much there other than beer/bait/pizza and a few small provisions. Closest major grocery store or hardware stores is a 30-45 min drive away. The mosquitos here will carry you away so make sure you have plenty of spray and plan to go inside at dusk. Most of the time you can come back out 1-2 hrs later but they can be horrendous as the sun sets.

24 hour fuel, 2017-03-16

Good stop. Nice folks, easy tie up, and easy 24 hour access fuel dock. Got a ride to the store from the security guard's husband and got a great pizza for supper. Wonderful folks.

Quick Overnight In Sabine, 2016-11-08
Captain: , Ocean city MD (10)

On the trip from Galveston to SW Florida we charted Sabine Pass as good pass to tuck into if the weather or sea state got ugly. The short run from Galveston is about 90 miles. We left towards the end of a passing cold front against our better judgement and the advice from the local captains. We quickly found the local captains were our best source of knowledge, the cold front produced very large, confused, and short period seas. We quickly made the call to head to Sabine. We came through the pass during the day which was very well marked. We called the marina and were given excellent directions on how to head in and what to watch for. We were greeted at the 50A transient dock by the very nice and accomodating gaurd. The gaurd explained the amenities at the marina and what was nearby. She was even nice enough to offer us her truck (right in line with the previous reviews. There are no nearby restaurants or shops. The one gas station in town makes a pretty good pizza and carries your typical "gas station groceries" and tackle. Enough to get you by if you hadn't provisioned for an unexpected lay day. Rated 5 stars because fascilities were clean, fuel dock was easily accessible, staff was very accomdating and it was a convenient place to duck in. Keep in mind there is not much else available in this area so being picky is not an option. Also prepare for the mosquitos, these much like the gulf during a cold front are "no joke".

Sabine Port Authority Marina, 2015-09-28

We were transiting the GIWW and had to duck for cover and this sweet gem was recommended by a sailing mate that captains the Branden Rose moored here.

The staff is fantastic and super helpful. Newer showers and laundry which came in handy. Oh and a 5 gal bucket of ice is $2.00

If you find yourself in the neighborhood make the stop.

The only negative is the proximity to shopping.

Good stop if your tired., 2015-09-13

We overnighted here in September. As the other reviews note, not much here but the basics. Fuel pumps take credit cards and are 24 hour self serve. We arrived after dark and finding the entrance was a little tricky. Once inside things are a little tight. We moored on the T head at the end of the center dock, bring plenty of fenders as the pilings are on the outside. The residents were very friendly. The marina takes cash or check only for the mooring.

Decent marina, 2015-08-11
Captain: , Naples, Fl (181)

This was our second stop on our way from Galveston to MArco Island, Fl. We read before that people were anchoring in the bayou, but as it is 100 degrees, we opted for marina and shorepower: A/C.
Very helpfull staff. We called ahead and the lady prepped her guard staff for our arrival. Rita took good care of us when docking, and Lee took care of us the next day with ice and topping of diesel.
Deccent and clean showers and toilet. The scenery is industrial and lots of fishing boats.

Pluses and minuses but the only marina aound for miles, 2014-12-12
Captain: , CapnPMF (100)

First--do not cut iside the island. You must enter from the main ship channel. Then you enter into a very tiny and narrow dog leg channel but once inside, it's a good deal for the money especially if you like catching flounder and being in the middle of mosutio ridden nowhefe. But there are basic bathroom facilities and no much else. You are in rural Texas and proceed accordingly. Staff can be very friendly. Dont expect much for services although there is a terrific diver nearby...just ask at the office. They will try to help. A tiny gas station and convenience mart is nearby ...but nothing else. For help with parts, try first call auto parts in port arthur ..very helpful. I do not recommend a stay here unless you have to but there is a fuel dock. Beware of currentds when ships transt which happens regularly. Staff will try to be very he;pful.

Friendly and Great Service, 2014-04-04
Captain: , Jamaica Beach, TX (180)

Friendly staff, good accommadations and they sale both gas and diesel.

Adequate layover for a night, 2014-03-14
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (245)

Clean facilities and easy access to fuel dock and transient slips. Pump your own fuel from a pay-to-pump after using your credit card. Max purchase is $200 per pump. Have two cards ready because you may get a denial and fraud alert if you need 200 gallons or more. Fuel was $3.98/gallon for gas or 50 gallons per swipe.

Pleasant stay, 2014-02-28
Captain: , Houston (72)

Stayed for a month in January 2014. Nice people, several livaboards, good gas/diesel and free pump out. Good weekly/monthly rates. Good layover as its a day trip to Houston. Transient dock is to your port after the entrance turn (opposite fuel dock). No groceries although they do have ice. Plenty mosquitoes!

Nice marina but cool in December., 2013-12-24
Captain: , Deer Lodge, MT (329)

Stayed here for a few days in December 2013. 24hr security, staff very friendly and helpful to get you docked, call ahead and they'll be ready for you. Good weekly rate for dockage. Only complaint is bathrooms are open air so 45 degree day in December is what the shower room temp is at.

We just love this place, 2012-03-08
Captain: , Kemah, TX (10)

$63/wk. Nice folks with a small liveaboard community. Only 6 miles from the Gulf. Good place to hole up if East bound from Galveston and the seas or weather doesn't cooperate.

Inexpensive, spartan, industrial, friendly, 2011-07-15
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (323)

See title. Plus, nearest laundry facilities about a mile away at Sabine Pass Motel - go early (unairconditioned) and bring your own chair.

Sabine Port Authority Marina, 2011-03-26
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (170)

Recently dredged to 8'. Docking is difficult due to short piers. Prevailing cross wind makes docking more difficult. Mosquitoes, Mosquitoes, Mosquitoes. We had clean power.

Few services, crappy ramp, in middle of nowhere.
