Reviews for S.T. Preston and Son
This Place Has Changed, 2014-03-26
Captain: , Coecles Harbor (301)

I used to love stopping here for a day or so, but since the development of Greenport in the last five (5) years the noise from Claudio%u2019s has been a little bit too much. It isn%u2019t even really the noise that is distasteful, it%u2019s the biker gang crowd that regulars Claudio%u2019s that really turns me off to that place. The store used to be a chandlery but it seems as though it%u2019s evolved into a trinket shop.

Severe rolling, 2013-06-17
Captain: , Naples, FL (1096)

Preston's graciously allowed us to dock for the day free. We arrived about 9 am, put out lots of fenders for the fixed dock. Even bought a piling protector at Preston's to add to the two we had with us.
The town is charming with good restaurants, shops, grocery store, cheese shop.
After three hours we returned to the boat and found the wakes caused the boat to roll badly, resulting in damage to the caprail. It was difficult to depart with the boat rolling from side to side.
Up until that time we had considered staying overnight for $1.50 per foot, no amenities.
It was a scary experience in the end.

they had what we needed, 2012-08-06
Captain: , north kingstown (341)

Although stock on shelf was low we found necessary paper charts which we should have had on board to find our way home when all electronics failed....
Good t shirt selection also...
Guess it's a sign of the times

Cheap dockage, 2012-02-12
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (92)

Not what it was as a marine supply store - nearest West Marine is 20 miles away; some (but not great supplies in Sag Harbor); but they do rent a couple of slips (w/o elec or water) in a great location at good prices.

nice little nautical shop, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Fire Island Pines (408)

has some hard to find and unique items but is becoming more of a tourist shop, gotta follow the money I suppose.

Used to be better, 2010-08-04
Captain: , Bay Shore, NY (490)

I hate to sound like an old guy; but Preston's used to be a real chandlery. Now it is still that....sort of. Many unique items, but has turned into kind of a touristy gift store. Ah...progress.

Nice day stop, 2009-07-21
Captain: , Old Saybrook, CT (1021)

The dock is free during the day although there is no dock staff. A good day stop to tour the town and Prestons itself. An excellent chandlery and marine art store. Reasonable fee for overnight dockage. No water (?) or electricity.

Old Time Chandlery - Gifts, 2007-04-15
Captain: , New York (88)

Friendly staff, not a huge stock... lots of gift items... some rare finds here. Complete range of offerings. This is an old time business run by sailors. Wash White Hardware is a few doors up the street with lots of handy stuff.
