Approach

5 miles up the Saco River. Keep to the center of the river channel which is well marked. If you have a draft over 5 foot it is good to go up mid-tide or higher. Pay attention to charts. On approach to the boatyard go past Saco Yacht club on the starboard all the way close to Saco Island then turn to port. There are now navigation markers for the channel near the boatyard. Reviews for Rumery's Boatyard
A beautiful location, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Boston (155)

We stayed at Rumery's on a Sunday night, and had the place completely to ourselves. The area is beautiful and the staff very hekpful.

Navigating the river was very simple: I left about 2 hours after low tide, and had zero problems with either current or depths. So far as I could tell, the only major hazard to navigation was children swimming in the river.

Great boatyard, 2015-03-20
Captain: , Biddeford Maine (49)

Sean and his crew at Rummery's is a great boatyard to do business with, besides being the only boatyard on the Saco River. I have been doing business with them for 8 years. They are professional and know what they are doing. They are not inexpensive but the work is great. I highly recommend them. They are far up the Saco River and the river can be a navigation challenge but the channel is deep for the most part. Be careful approaching the boat yard as there is a large sandbar in the middle of the river. Stay to starboard of the island and follow the channel markers through the Saco Yacht Club mooring field and hug the shore of Saco Island to come over to the boatyard. Best at high tide.

Worth the long river transit. Friendly staff., 2014-10-04
Captain: , Avondale, PA (448)

It's at least 5 miles upo the Saco river to get to Rumery's Boat Yard but the scenery is well worth it. After a day of 6 foot seas the placid river was a welcome relief. Transients are not the yard's main business but they made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to provide power cables on the pier that does not normally provide power. The owner made his restroom and shower available and gave us the password to his personal internet connection. On his recommendation, we ate at two really good restaurants: "Run of the Mill" in Saco, just across the bridge from Biddeford, and "Los Tapatios" on Adams Street in Biddeford. One employee, Chip, drove us to a laundromat and had us call him to pick us up when we were done. I can't say enough about how well we were treated.

For excellent work and fair prices, come up the River., 2014-08-03
Captain: , Longport, NJ (31)

Rumery's is a great yard. Their work is first class, and their prices are great compared to S.Jersey. I docked there for the weekend. When I arrived at the dock, two employees stopped what they were doing to help me dock. Speak to Sean, he's a great guy. Also check out their excellent web site, where you can see examples of their work.

Fantastic Service, 2013-08-26

I was able to leave my boat here for a week heading north - great folks, great service. Tricky running up the river in the current however.

Cheerful Service, Traditional Boatyard, 2013-07-18
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (884)

We had a few mechanical and electrical troubles and stopped at Rumery's for assistance. They were able to quickly do what repairs we needed as it was a slow time for the yard. They were most accomodating with wifi, showers, dock space and local directions.
The run up the Saco River is quite scenic and deep except for 6' at low in the mouth of the breakwaters. We draw 5' and had no worries. The basin at head of navigation, between Saco and Biddeford, is quite passable for deep draft sailboats, at least above 1/2 tide. Pass through the R/G private marks and trend right through the Saco YC mooring field to just below the dam. Cut left through another set of marks, hugging the red side, then pass close along the wall to the last pair of marks. Turn left there to Rumery's docks and service moorings. Our Garmin plotter showed a bit of shoal water going into the SYC mooring field but we saw 8'.
Rumery's does not rent their moorings; they do welcome visitors on their docks or moorings when space is available; after spring launching and before fall haulout, presumably is best. We enjoyed walkable Biddeford, which has a pleasant brick downtown, lots of restaurants. Hurricane hole, too.
