Operation (seasonal or year-round)
Seasonal

Additional info: The club closes its mooring facilities towards the end of September until March for annual maintenance.

Approach

Can be rough in northerly gales, be aware of commercial fishingboats and ferries. Numerous banks. E breakwater has just been renewed.

It was reported June 2011, works in progress on a new W breakwater, together with the new E breakwater the entrance has become a lot easier to tackle in NW winds

Beware: Update as per September 2011, two new breakwaters have been constructed around the old two breakwaters with the result that the harbour entrance has now been moved about 150 meters to the northeast with two floating buoys marking the entrance. No lights yet installed on the breakwaters themselves. Look at the satellite picture for details.

Reviews for Royal North Sea Yacht Club
First week of June 2015, 2015-06-15
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens (30)

We visited the RNSYC in a 21 meter powerboat and found them extremely accommodating. Simon the Dockmaster is exceptional! He has a can-do attitude and wants nothing more than to keep his customers happy. This is a nice, quaint little marina conveniently located to the town, the beach, the train station (15 minute walk), and the local market. The Yacht Club restaurant serves good food with a smile and the view from the deck is superb. There is obvioulsy more wave afect than if you enter the lock and go to the Mercator Marina but the traffic activity is entertaining. There is also a free ferry servivce to the north side of the harbor. As mentioned already, free wifi is provided and it works well.

First marina in Oostende, 2012-06-12

This is a popular marina. Lot of places in beginning of June. Close to downtown Oostende. Free internet in the marina.

As Solstice said, this is a crowded marina. Boats raft up 5 and 6 deep. However, because it is crowded with cruisers, it is also a good place to meet people and make new friends. It is worth the stop just to meet the harbormaster and watch the boats come and go from the club bar/restaurant. I wish I could have stayed longer.

This club just inside the harbor is a lot of fun. Robert, the harbormaster, meets you in his dinghy and directs you where to tie up. The club is enormously popular and fills totally with boats on Scandinavian-style stern bouys nose-into the dock and side-ties on the floating dock with boats rafted all the way across in between. Robert makes sure everyone gets out in the morning. We're told that the facility is subject to dockline-snapping surge in weather. In that case, go on in to Mercator, now also run by the yacht club.
