Reviews for Rondout Yacht Basin
Nice Marina, Great staff, 2016-10-14
Captain: , La Crosse, WI (627)

We stayed one night on our way to NYC and stayed most of a week when we returned from NYC. Jeff and the staff are super friendly and made sure our stay was pleasant. We have a trailerable trawler and used their ramp to pull our boat out for the return trip to Wisconsin. This is a working full service Marina with not a lot of room, but they were fine with us leaving our trailer while we explored the mansions and towns of Hudson Valley with our truck. Enterprise Car Rental will pick you up at the marina. This is a great place to stay while visiting the Hudson River Valley.

Adequate, but don't expect the Ritz ..., 2016-07-30
Captain: , Herrington Harbour South, MD (202)

The slip fees are reasonable so mabe the Ritz is too much to expect. The floating docks are adequate, not great, and our 50 amp shore power connection was in very sketchy condition. The showers and laundry are some distance from the docks. It is a long way from any shopping or restaurants, unless you have a dinghy (which we did), in which case you can take it to Kingston and tie up at the municipal marina for $5 (2016). Good wifi.

Holiday Weekend, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Portland, ME (200)

...well not really. The marina has a few weekend celebrations, clam bake, pig roast, and the one we arrived early for - Christmas in July. We had not intended to stay into the weekend, but the threat of thunderstorms on the scheduled departure day changed our minds.

Jeff the dockmaster, re-wrote his 'holiday' berthing plan and made room for us - not an easy task with three yacht clubs and a handful of groups arriving. excellent customer support.

The grounds are beautiful, pool, bathroom, shower, all clean and well maintained. Not five stars because there is nothing much around that does not require a taxi. ($8.75 to Rondout waterfront)

But it would be a short dinghy ride, a great added service would be a water shuttle Rondout.

nice on the quiet side, 2016-06-23
Captain: , Sodus Bay, New York (220)

nice amenities across creek from town. if you want town, looks like municipal marina is a better choice. if you want quiet, this is the place.

Perfect For Me, 2016-06-14
Captain: , Shady Side, MD (115)

"THE" most helpful staff I've run across from FL to NY. I don't do many reviews but this place gets my total appreciation. Everyone here went out of their way to be helpful and friendly during my stay. There is a nice little cafe on the premises which in season is open on the weekends with real good food. A short dingy ride away (1/4 mile) are several more restaurants. The facilities were very clean and neat. They have a good sized pool, nice bathrooms and showers, picnic tables, grills, and horseshoes on a lovely large lawn. The people who keep their boats here were also very friendly. Fuel prices (Gas and diesel) were no more expensive than what I expected.

I would definitely stay here again. It's a relaxing and well cared for place with a great staff.

GOOD Marina, 2015-09-29
Captain: , Senaca Lake Geneva, N.Y. (230)

Jeff the dock master did everything he could to make our stay nice. Met some very friendly people on F dock. Had a little DOCK party @ 5 o clock.

Decent place., 2015-09-27
Captain: , Farmingdale NY (80)

We stopped for fuel, and considered staying here because of the great reviews. Once there, we decided to stay at the Kingston City Dock instead.
The place itself seemed ok. The gentleman working the fuel dock was multi-tasking, and therefore a little less than attentive. In all fairness, it was a beautiful Friday afternoon leading to an incredible weather weekend, so things were probably busy for them.
We weren't in a rush, and the delay in tracking him down allowed us time to take a good look around.
There is a small store at the very pricey fuel dock that has basic items, the bathroom was clean, and if we were looking for a quieter place to spend a couple of days we would have considered it.
But beware that a taxi ride is required to get to the area where the restaurants are. You could dinghy across if you have one, but then you'd have to pay the Kingston City Dockmaster to tie up the dinghy anyway.
Nothing fancy about the place, but a good choice if you want the basics and don't want to be at the busier Kingston City dock.

Management response:
Thank you for your comments. Our price on diesel is comparable to most on the Hudson. Our gas is more expensive than the average because it is premium 91 octane, non-ethanol gas.
Come back and try us out for more than fuel.

Nice marina, 2015-09-26
Captain: , Little River, SC (731)

Nice long transit dock is right on the river and easily accessible. Snack bar on the premises. Cable TV is available dockside for transients - a very pleasant surprise on a Saturday during football season. Friendly, helpful staff. A little crowded, though. We got the last available wall space due to the number of transients ahead of us. Make reservations in advance!

Good for a short stay, 2015-08-16
Captain: , Lindenhurst, NY (30)

The docks are in desperate need of repair. In fact, i felt they were quite dangerous in the dark. The pool was refreshing. The bathroom was clean for a marina. There is internet. The showers are far from the docks. There is not much to do in the vacinity at all. Nothing is close by/no shopping in walking distance. Short dingy or cab ride to down for dinner/restaurants.

Very Restful, 2015-07-29
Captain: , Haverstraw (31)

We have stayed here several times. The Staff is very helpful. The Bathroom is a little tired, but nothing worse than our our homeport Marina. Docks are old but are being maintained. A nice refreshing pool, and excellant internet access. We always take the dingy up and down the Rondout creek. If we want to go out to eat we take the dingy over to the Kingston town docks, last time it was 5 dollars, which is cheaper than a cab ride which we have also done. We usually stay 3 nights and then head back down the river. Very restful stop.

Nice Relaxing Place, 2014-10-10
Captain: , Doylestown, Pa. 18902 (414)

Stopped here for a night late September 2014. Gas and diesel available, decent showers. Cute little restaurant open for breakfast on the weekends in the fall season. Quiet and protected, decent floating docks. Staff very helpful. Some convience items sold in the office / store. Nice wooded grounds picnic tables and a small RV park is also attached. Short dinghy ride across the creek to the busier Kingston side waterfront and restaurant scene.

had a nice stay here on the way north, 2014-10-03
Captain: , Bayou Bonfouca, LA- Great Loop Cruiser (708)

We stopped in here on our loop travels to the Erie Canal. We weren't sure about it based on the responses, but we found it good for our purposes.
We ended up staying 2 days for repairs to our starter on the stbd engine.
The entire staff here was friendly & helpful.
We would definitely return.

i heard it might be closing this season 9/15/14, 2014-09-08
Captain: , West shore Marlboro NY (825)

so sad if this is really closing
stayed here 2 nights during columbus day weekend
nice place, cafe had great dinner on Sat night BYOB? they had a band that played till 9, very calm and quiet stop, very friendly staff
good place to stay and dink over to kingston dock for dinner
we will have to come back next summer

Management response:
Rondout Yacht Basin is NOT closing.
Rondout Bay Marina (farther west on the Rondout Creek) is reportedly closing.

Old wood floating docks, 2014-09-07
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

Our stay was after labor day and the water was turning up a scum. The docks are old and in need of renovation. The cafa was closed and a taxi was required to get to town. A far walk to the showers.

Weekend stay, 2014-09-02
Captain: , Hyde park Marina (10)

Great accommodations, friendly people. Docks need upgrading.

Great stay both ways, 2014-08-31
Captain: , Montreal (87)

Going to NYC and on our way back to Montreal we stayed at the RYB. Very friendly. I would go back again. Little draw back is the cab required to hit the restaurant area in old Kingston. Long wait for the cab (20-30 min) but it s worth it. The amrina has a very limiited snack bar but lots of BBQ for your convenience. Dock condition prevented a 5 star rating.

Nice marina and enjoyable area, 2014-08-16
Captain: , Rochester, NY (200)

We were pleasantly surprised with how nice the setting was. Town and restaurants are an easy dinghy ride. Marina staff is friendly. We took a really nice dinghy ride way up the creek to a waterfall. Really enjoyed our stay.

Great Family Stop, 2014-08-10
Captain: , Forked River, NJ (10)

Very Nice Folks, Reasonable Gas, Good Basic Eats at the onsite Cafe. $2/ft, $3/30a service, $5 for 50a. Pool was great. Only downside is everything is a cab ride as they are on the south side of the river vs all restaurants & shops are on the north side.

Will stay there again.

Down Home Marina, 2014-07-06
Captain: , Racine, WI (371)

Really busy 4th of July weekend, Dockmaster Jeff went out of his way to accommodate our needs. Pool, clean showers, I was especially impressed at the grounds the number of picknick tables, grills, a playground for the grandkids. On this weekend they even allowed marina customers to pitch tents on the lawn and stay overnight. A real family fun orientated marina, we will return.

Quiet Nice Marina, 2014-06-25
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (983)

Stayed there 8th through 19th June 2014. It was quiet with zero wake to worry about, friendly, convenient and helpful. The dockside cafe is a wonder - they need to raise their prices - it's that good.

Nice Stop on the Hudson, 2014-06-19
Captain: , Little River, SC (476)

6/5/14 Really nice owner, staff, and local boaters. Marina isn't fancy, but clean and well protected. Wish we had more time to explore and stay longer.

Stayed for a week early June, 2014-06-11
Captain: , Westport CT (311)

We stayed for a week and thought it was great. It's not fancy, and the docks aren't new, but the people (workers and boaters) are all very friendly and the owners make sure you have what you need. Showers and bathrooms were clean and nice. We took nice walks around the area. They have a really nice pool to lounge at and picnic tables around the grounds. We found a great dog walker (lucky pets), and had a really good dinner at Armadilla's

Out of the way for a good nights sleep, 2014-05-12
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

Nice but older docks tucked down the river. Owner was nice, we docked on the main dock. Small store with good selection of cleaning products and small parts. Lowest fuel prices we've seen on the Hudson.

We got a taxi to the Martime Musuem, a nice display of Hudson River and tug boat relics. Walk down 2 blocks to the Trolly Musuem its worth it.

Lots of places to eat downtown from Deli to very fancy. We did Irish bangers and mash.

Pleasant, but overpriced, 2013-09-03
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (552)

This is a pleasant but rustic marina that anywhere south of the C&D canal would be $1.00 or $1.25 per foot. Jeff was very helpful.

Great Stop Over, 2013-09-02
Captain: , Patchogue (85)

Stayed there for 2 evenings and enjoyed the facility. Jeff, the dockmaster was extremely friendly and helpful.
Great people, clean facilities, made for an enjoyable 2 day stop over.
Also enjoyed kayaking down the river to the water falls!

A nice family marina, 2013-08-16
Captain: , Block Island, NY (50)

Stayed here one night, very nice people. Protected. Full services and great fuel prices. Highly recomended. We spent the day in Kingston, taxis are available.

Great Fuel Stop, 2013-08-06
Captain: , Where ever the hook is (573)

I only stopped for fuel but the staff is very couteous, they were wqiting to grab the lines and prompt. Easy in and out, Marina looks nice and it is a pretty area off the Hudson. Not to mention one of the better fuel prices around.

Good Place, 2013-07-31
Captain: , Freeport, ME (608)

We stopped for a night on the way south. While they are still in recovery mode from Sandy, most of the docks are in good shape. Power, water, wifi all work well. Super people. Clean heads and laundry.

Destination Marina Rondout Yacht Basin, 2013-07-15
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1380)

We checked all the reviews for all the other places to stop in the local area (Kingston) and Rondout became our destination. It's nice to be at a "family" type marina with enthusiastic staff who all go the extra mile with courteous, polite service. Jeff is a great dockmaster who knows what to do with a dock line. Cheryl was a pleasure to deal with on the phone and took a hand with our lines along with Ed & Joe. Swimmg Pool was first stop. Kyaking the Rondout Creek with the 12 ft x 100 ft water fall. Using Rondout as a base for a week to tour with a rental car. This was a enjoyable, restfull, stop.

Quiet and Peaceful, 2013-06-30
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (570)

This marina is located up a creek off the river so there is good protection from wind and few wakes. It is located across the river from town. The roads are narrow and winding (not good for walking), but it is a short taxi ride to Kingston where there is a Maritime museum and many restaurants.

Great Place On Way Up Hudson, 2013-06-21
Captain: , Venice, Fl. (919)

This marina is very quaint and family friendly. They have a pool, playground, ping pong table, and volleyball area. The bathrooms are clean and the staff is great. Cheryl was a great help to us when docking and assisting us with fuel. They have a little Cafe on site that serves great food..all freshly made. Try the spinach salad for sure with strawberries and watermelon. Taxi into town or take your dinghy. Kingston has great restaurants, little shops and the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Ladies, a great place to get your hair done is at Trends on Strand Street We enjoyed our stay.

Like Family, 2013-06-09
Captain: , Castine, Maine (2997)

I would describe this as a great down home marina. There is a large seasonal population of boaters that obviously enjoy hanging out together and having a good time. You see picnics and children and dogs all about. There's a volleyball net and horseshoes and swimming pool and a playground for the kids. We found the other boaters very welcoming and friendly. They made us feel like family too.

There's a little outdoor cafe overlooking the marina that you might think just has hamburgers and french fries but we had a wonderful spinach salad with fresh watermelon and strawberries and a tasty light dressing. There were other interesting options on the menu. Make sure you try it out.

The marina is well protected up Rondout Creek. We found plenty of water for our 6 foot draft. Jeff, the dockmaster, was very helpful and friendly and certainly knew what he was doing. They also do repair work, haul outs, etc. if you need it. A very nice spot to stay the night or a few days on your way up the Hudson.

Super Friendly, 2013-05-28
Captain: , Vancouver, Canada (487)

We stopped here to pick up fuel and pump out. Great location and the staff are very friendly. If you need a stop along the Hudson to reprovision and refuel and pump out then this is it. Very protected.

Sorry we did not know they were a sponsor, 2013-03-27
Captain: , Clayton, NY (645)

WE were on a quick trip up the Hudson and found this place. Nice and protected. Clean facilities even in the fall after most of the boats were out of the water.

Super friendly staff, 2013-02-01
Captain: , Chelsea Piers (40)

Can't say enough great things about the nice staff. I'd also recommend getting a taxi to go into town. Too far of a walk otherwise. Great stopover all in all.

Very Accomdating Service, 2012-10-10
Captain: , Wellesley Island, NY (21)

On our trip down the Erie we hit a deadhead in a section of the Mohawk River east of Utica after heavy rains had apparently cleaned the banks. As we motored down the Hudson I felt more vibration at increased rpms so I decided we needed to take a look at the props. Not being familiar with the area we chose to stay at Rondout Yacht Basin based on the Active Captain reviews and as luck would have it the next morning was Dock master Jeff's day off. Not a problem, he came in, hauled the boat so we could inspect props and shaft, and had us back in the water in a couple hours, at a very reasonable charge.

This kind of service is hard to find and deserves support.

Quaint and Helpful People, 2012-06-27
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1787)

Not a bad marina at all! Its a bit on the older side but it does appear that they work hard to keep it spiffed up. A few months ago I did a review of Dames Pointe Marina in Jacksonville describing it as a "blue collar" marina. Nothing wrong with that at all. We liked Dames Pointe. Same here. The long facing dock is very good with an easy in and out to the fuel and pump out. The inner slips all have long actual docks between the boats instead of fingers. The 50 amp elecrical on the facing dock where we were wasn't too good but we went with two 30s and all was good. The onshore amenities are older but clean.

Kingston has everything you need (Walmart, Home Depot, Sams Club, local grocery, etc.) but nothing/zip/nil within walking distance. We rented a car from Enterprise (they picked us up and dropped us back off) for one day to get all of our chores done. The local marine shop, Roberti's, is obviously set up for smaller pleasure/fishing boats but they did have a few things we needed.

It is well protected from most winds. Everyone does seem to obey a no wake zone up and down the river. A bit of a current but nothing drastic.

A great spot...Love the deep water access., 2012-05-25
Captain: , Midland Ontario (660)

This marina is neat and tidy with the feel of a 60's yacht club... horse shoes and ping pong included. It's a nice touch to see that.
Service is friendly and helpful. We picked this marina in favor of the town side docks as Rondout is quieter. A taxi to town is recommended as its out of normal walking range. We will be sure to stay here again in fall when we head back north.

Winter Storage, 2012-03-14
Captain: , Coles Point, VA (778)

The folks at Rondout Yacht Basin are all very friendly and have been most pleasant. The care with which they hauled and blocked the boat was excellent (October 2011). At this stage of the season their cafe is not open, and the staff is mostly in the yard hard at work when you need something from the store or office, but it doesn't take too much time to track 'em down. The contractors that work in their yard also seem to be quite friendly and good. The property itself was hard hit by hurricane Irene, but has bounced back nicely. Showers and restrooms seems fairly serviceable, but as this is being written at the end of the season are a little worn.

Active Captain is the reason I decided to winter here, and so far I have not been disappointed. The way I have been treated is the reason I have decided to summer here for the 2012 season . . . .

Very pretty area, and helpful staff, 2011-10-10
Captain: , Key west (31)

This is a pretty area and the marina staff are all very helpful. The only negatives are that the decks need some repair and when others are using the water there is low pressure.

storm port, 2011-09-08
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)

We arrived from NYC on August 30, well ahead of the hurriane and crowd from all over trying to avoid Irene. We all easily managed the 30/40 knots winds, but none understood the terror of the Roundout River that came after the heavy rains. With every dock full of large boats, the river poured pass us at a very scary speed. Mostly the people on the boats worked endlessly to prevent the docks from brecking up or get stuck on the wooden posts that almost went under at one high tide. The Roundout Basin offices and yard and parking lot all were under 4 to 5 feet of water and mud. All electrical systems too. After several days with hundreds of large trees and flotsum going by, the river started to go down and one by one, boats left.

Excellent food on site, 2011-05-29
Captain: , Rockport, ON, Canada (265)

The marina is well protected and the staff helpfull. The restaurant on site (Oasis on the Water) was exceptional. No alcohol but you can take your own. Breakfast was very good but the rib eye steaks for supper were to die for. Taxi service to anything you might need was easy, prompt and reasonable.

Very quiet and protected., 2011-01-03
Captain: , Utica, Ohio (245)

Although not far from town, this is a very protected and quiet facility. We tied on the transient wall for a night. If you have a dink, it would be best to use it to access restaurants downtown. Several great restaurants to choose from downtown, but no provisions. A long cab ride is required to get to a grocery.
Wish we had more time to explore this area as it looks very interesting.

Rondout Yacht Basin on theCreek, 2010-09-26
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (745)

Rondout Yacht Basin is a handy stop on protected waters. We stopped here a couple of years ago to repair our alternator. Friendly folks and helpful. The restrooms are marginal.

Nice Place, 2009-12-29
Captain: , Orange (50)

We had a very nice time here. The location is on a very interesting river if you enjoy daytrips in your kayak or inflatable . There are old tugboats, PT boats, trolleys, shopping, resturants and maritime museums. The bus can take you into Kingston for more.

The only down side is you need to get to the other side of the river for all this. There is plenty of room to tie up a dinghy over there.

Docks could use some work, 2009-06-13
Captain: , fairland (2653)

The creek was very trashy after spring rains. Lots of derelict vessels at the entrance of the creek. The restaurant is good. It is probably worth the extra $0.50/foot over the maritime museum. No hot water for the showers, probably none for the laundry, either. It is way to far to walk into town from this side of the creek.

Protected marina w/very helpful staff, 2007-07-10
Captain: , Kiawah Island, SC (152)

This is a pretty area and the marina staff are all very helpful. Jeff did whatever he could to keep an eye on our boat while we were away. The face dock can accommodate large vessels and there is deep water all the way into the marina. The only negatives are that the decks need some repair and when others are using the water there is low pressure. There is also a train track nearby but isn't too noisy.
