Reviews for Marine Propulsion
Restored hurricane damage, 2017-09-21
Captain: , Dataw Island, SC (20)

Anthony's team patched, filled, and painted our GB46 hull that had been pulverized in the debris of Dataw Is marina after Matthew. Had to replace teak cap rail, s/s hand rail, trim tabs, swim platform...even fabricate a new anchor pulpit. Exceptional work. A 1997 boat that looks brand new!!

Very Good Boatyard, 2017-04-24

Great people - family run business with knowledgable and conscientious people.

We had serious diesel engine problems on our loop trip and decided to re-power with an outboard. The whole process took about 3 weeks during the height of their busy season - from diagnosis of the original engine to pricing the new options to engine delivery and custom bracket fabrication and installation and wiring. I was also able to do some DIY projects while we were on the hard.

All done at a reasonable price. And they found us acceptable accomodations within walking distance of the boat yard.

Thanks again Anthony, Susie and team!

My only choice for a boat yard in Charleston area, 2015-08-18
Captain: , charleston, sc (10)

Fair, knowledgable and honest. I have a 46ft sail boat and have had mechanical, electrical and bottom painting work performed over the past several years and have had positive experiances each time. We agree on the parameter of the work to be performed before hand and it has always been done in a efficient and professional manner. When the rare dispute has arisen over the work or the bill they are more than accommodating and give the customer the benefit of the doubt. You deal directly with the owner of the yard Anthony Black, who is on site supervising the work. Anthony has the experiance and seems to know about all aspects pertaining to boat repair and maintenance. I do not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

They have everything for such a small yard. Paint crews. They have paint on hand you can paint yourself. You can sand DIY. I have seen less equipped DIY yards with crazy managers. These guys are good people. Not your blackbeard pirate types. Seriously.

well stocked shipstore, 2012-11-28

Out in the middle of nowhere, we were delighted to find Marine Propulsion. Knowlegible counter and office staff. Had exactly what we needed to replace a section of engine exhaust hose and much much more. Beats trying to get a ride to West marine.

Anthony Black certainly knows his onions when it comes to engines! Yanmar dealer with a good reputation. Hauled out here for bottom job, changed pitch to propellers and some engine work. Very professional with a laid back family feel to everything. Strong current at the docks so suggest arriving at slack water. Can liveaboard at the dock for short periods during work etc but no living aboard when out of the water. Lady has a house next to the yard and can rent out a room, if available, for about $40 a night (2012), check with the yard for details. Yard allow you to DIY but charge "corkage" if you bring your own paint. Can order most parts in for work. Yard is a long way from anywhere so provision and be prepared to be isolated.

I have been working with this yard for three years. It is the only yard i actually look forward to going back to. I have found that if you are specific with your work list and requirements they will constantly exceed your expectations. The crew is skilled and does a great job. When outside skills are needed Antony calls them in. I needed a complex nav pod installed and when it was done it was world class. Engine alignment, bottom coats etc are always well done. They are a trustworthy, skilled and hard working yard.

honest repair facility, 2011-03-31
Captain: , Stuart FL (835)

We had encounter witrh submerged log. Called towboat us and they recommended Rockville Marine as closest one to haul us. One is generally wary when you haveto have something done and no few choices of facilities. We arrived near closing and were hauled the next morning (short haul). They removed the old prop told me I needed to replace cutlass bearing but could wait for a while. They checked prop shaft and had me back in water in an hour. They let me stay that night also at no additional cost.

The facility is small so do not know how many transient slips are available but if you need work done in the Charleston area, based on my experience, I would certainly recommend these guys.

Captain: , Folly Beach, SC (90)

Got bottom painted and some through-hulls replaced. I got quotes from ALL the yards in the Charleston area, and they were by far the best. Service was prompt, friendly and very professional. My best boatyard experience to date.

Very helpful with electrical issues.

Bottom Repair , 2008-03-27
Captain: , Charleston, SC (54)

I had my 1988 Atlantic Trawler in the Yard for bottom paint and other general repairs. When the boat was pulled we found a severe case of Blistering. Anthony Black took charge and got a crew in to do the peeling and refinishing. The process took about 3 months but when completed it was like new. I can't say enough about the quality of service and the friendly people at Rockville. Captain Dennis Schmidt

Captain: , Eugene,OR (21)

Anthony runs a first class operation. Steve the yard manager is the best. They did very good work at fair prices. I never felt ripped off by them. Would go back in a flash, if I was in the area. They stay busy so book in advance.

Marine Propulsion/Rockville Marine, 2007-01-18
Captain: , Port Canaveral, Fl. (241)

This is a first class marine repair, engine, and re-power yard.

Anthony Black (owner) does some of the best work to be found on the east coast.

The yard is about 6 miles off the ICW, south of Charleston SC.
