Reviews for Rock Harbor of Refuge
Nice harbor, 2017-07-02

Nice little harbor with very helpful marina staff.

Gas and diesel both available, showers were $6 and were pretty feeble but generally worth it. Laundry facilities as well, also $6 and again also worth it. Store was small but stocked with enough stuff to get us by including some frozen hamburger, bread etc. Wouldn't want to shop here every day but it was good enough for us to extend our trip without hitting a mainland store.

Fresh water was $0.25/Gallon which is what the concessionare claimed the NPS charged them for it.

Resturants were OK but not stellar, worth visiting if, like me, you'd like a break from doing dishes on the boat.

Visitors lounge at the lodge has WiFi during buisness hours but it gets quickly overwhelmed so try to stop in at off peak times if you don't like staring at hour glasses on your devices.

Pretty busy area, the least "Isle Royale" place on all of Isle Royale for sure but still a good stop.

We spent one night here. THe price is very reasonable if you stay 2-3 nights as they have a huge discount. Facilities were fine with tables and BBQ just on shore if you want a cook out. We did not try the restaurant or the showers but they are available. Lots of trails all around to hike and really pretty scenery of course.
Small store has some provisions and lots of souvenirs for Isle Royale.
We banged a prop at Passage island and the staff was very helpful with suggestions and information. We were lucky to find Ryan from Lake Superior divers nearby and he dove to replace our props until midnight. What a great guy. With his help we were able to limp back to Houghton for shaft repair. Avoid Passage island if you don't know the entry.

Still the only place on Isle Royale for diesel. They do have electricity and $6 showers. The coffee shop prices were reasonable for Isle Royale. Many walking trails for short or long walks. Ranger talks in the evenings. Worth an overnight.

Not That Great, 2013-09-04

I was worried about depth in most slips here, and marina staff when you could find them were not very helpful or knowledgeable. Not much else is here outside the marina anyway, so we didn't stay. We only used the pump out facilities, which are at the fuel dock. Depths at the fuel dock were in the 7-9 foot range above LWD.

Urban Isle Royale, flush toilets, showers, resturants, and the only diesel for 60 miles. Slips are shallow. Another review coments about depths reported in BonnieD guide; remember that those soundings were taken in high water (+1 foot) and in 2012 we are -0.5 feet below MWL. Beware!

Nice to top up the tanks and the battery, 2012-08-16

Basic marina services. Showers are $6 additional and should be included at these prices. No charge for any other docks in the park, so no reason to linger.

Welcome respite, 2012-02-27

Ditto the shallow harbour but the only place to get diesel on the island.
Very busy place in the season.
Everything is very expensive.

A beautiful but mostly shallow marina that is very costly for its docks and it gas or diesel. Electricity is and additional expense. It is beautiful here as it is all around the island. There is a dining room here at the Rock Harbor Lodge, also a camp store with clothing and some food supplies.

Very shallow if you have a deep draft boat. The main ferry dock was in use by the tall ship Niagara when we came in so we trid to use the first slip, which Bonnie Dahl listed as 9 feet deep. Our 6.5 foot deep boat ran aground trying to get into it. Mind your depth sounder!
