Notes

On arrival, tie up at the fuel dock and go to the office on the far side of the marina near the workshops or go into the restaurant (closer) and talk to the manager who can help.

1/21/15: Do not go to the blue maintenance buildings, just go into the cafe if you cannot get ahold of Steve, they can assist you in the cafe and direct you to the transient dock. If no one is around, simply park and just give Steve a ring, leave a voicemail, he will return your call. The blue building is the maintenance shop that is privately owned, Steve owns the building, but the shop owner will not be able to collect money for the slip rental. When you pull into the marina, keep left and you will see the transient slips on the left (south bank), park, then go into the cafe and pay and your all set. If you do not need power or water then you could stop by the fuel dock, but you will get the wakes from the river traffic.

Reviews for Riverwalk Marina
Barebones but inexpensive, 2016-08-10
Captain: , United States (2528)

We spent a month here in July/August 2016. We chose this spot because we needed to fly to California and found good flights out of Huntsville (HSV). This marina is actually closer to HSV than the "Huntsville" marinas such as Ditto Landing further upriver. We originally only needed a couple of weeks, but it was cheaper to just take a whole month.

As long as we had extra time, Dectaur itself had several nice restaurants and plenty of shopping for projects and reprovisioning. Nothing at all is accessible from the marina, other than the on-site restuarant, without a vehicle. We carry scooters, but Enterprise will pick you up and we found their local rates reasonable.

The docks are in decent shape and there is power and water at each slip; we had 10' of depth at the face dock. There are no other amenities, however, such as rest rooms or showers.

The on-site restaurant, the Hard Dock Cafe, is open six nights a week (closed Monday). It's mostly a bar with a handful of food items such as burgers, salads, and fried items. All food and drink is served on disposable plasticware due to lack of wastewater capacity on the island. Live music on the weekends attracts a sometimes rambunctious crowd, and music goes fairly late but is muted near the docks.

GPS and address-mapping services have trouble with the marina's street address, usually placing it near downtown. We had several packages delivered here and it was a bit of a problem. Most maps will get the Hard Dock Cafe more accurately than the marina itself, so if you are giving directions use that instead.

Owner Steve was very helpful and accommodating and we would not hesitate to stop here again. That said, the lack of ammenities, distance to shoreside services and lack of transportation to them, and the issues with the address keep me from awarding more stars.

Nice marina, friendly locals, 2015-10-04
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (1652)

They do not monitor radio and hard to reach by phone. Entering transient slips can be a challenge for larger boats. Nice friendly people and the restaurant overlooks the river with good sandwiches and specialty items. Enterprise car rental will pick you up to resupply at Decatur across the river.

another good stop, 2014-10-23
Captain: , Holland (270)

good overnight stop. 75 cents/ft. only one shower located way on the other side of the marina. restruant/bar located at the marina. no courstey car and the city is across the bridge.

Good stop over, 2014-10-12
Captain: , Milwaukee WI (50)

Easy in and out, 10' deep. Good food and service at resturant. No answer on the phone or radio. Just tied up and everyone was happy with the spot we picked.

Easy in Easy Out, 2014-08-17

Very convenient from river, well protected. Locals very friendly.
Beer was indeed at The Hard Dock Restaurant.

Captain: , scottsboro, Al. (141)

Look for it on the North side of the river between the two bridges. Transient dock passed fuel dock to port, pay for dockage at the restaurant bar .75 @ Ft. Power 50 amp so you need a 50 to 30 amp splitter if you use 30 amp power cords, potable water also at power stations. Hard Dock restaurant is air conditioned open air look for table to left of entrance, it has a window a/c unit blowing cool at it. Fish camp style menu with good selection and as previous mentioned ice cold beer. Call the railroad bridge tender on channel 13 for openings.

I LOVE this place !, 2014-05-21
Captain: , decatur (18)

Just returned from the Middle East and went for a river cruise. We stopped at the Riverwalk for dinner and to refuel. Ended up staying the night. Hard Dock Cafe has good prices, good food, and the bottled and canned beer is served ICE cold. Band on Saturday was show quality. I will be purchasing a slip there for sure.

Great Deal at .75 cents/foot, 2013-08-11
Captain: , Punta Gorda FL (1709)

This marina is nicer than i expected after reading previous reviews. Docks are fine. Competitively priced fuel and the Hard Dock Restaurant is better than I expected. Very close to the old Victorian and Craftsman homes in Old Decatur. Enterprise RAC is easy to deal with and marina staff and locals are very friendly. Lots of history here.

Adequate at best, 2012-10-08
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Has seen better years. Good place to see Decatur, an interesting town with much history. Steve will help you dock. Restaurant is not notable but open every day now.

It's a marina, 2012-03-02
Captain: , Madison, AL (80)

Docks are ok; however, rest of marina is lacking. Gas docks and head pump-out is a gamble if they will be available. Would never use the public restroom. Hard Dock is "interesting".

It's a real shame because it appears the marina was a great hangout probably ten years ago. I guess recent economic conditions have taken their toll. Much of the marina is weathering away -- even though it could be brought back pretty quickly with alittle more TLC.

Had a nice time for a couple days, 2011-12-12
Captain: , Channel Islands, California (1149)

Nice docks. The facilities are spartan or nonexistant, but the Hard Dock was fun. The price was very right.

Great stop after a tough up-river delivery, 2011-11-15
Captain: , Niceville FL (102)

While the Hard Dock is closed on Monday's, Steve (owner) was on site, very friendly and helpful. He even drove to town for some shopping and brought me back. Just wish we had been there on one of their regular nights!

Safe harbor in a storm, 2011-10-29
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6484)

Adequate docks, but thats about it. Only dock help were fellow boaters. No showers, no restrooms except when restaurant was open. No water at transient dock, but you can join couple of hoses together to reach faucet. Littered parking lot. Interesting Indian heritage site at downriver corner of parking lot.

Substandard, 2011-08-12
Captain: , Alcoa, Tenn (26)

No water at transient dock. Not helpful on phone. No one there at arrival. Land and parking lot littered with paper, dog waste and GLASS.

Adequate at best, 2011-07-27
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (235)

On an island in the Tennessee River, it could not be more convient for a transient. Deep water approach and well-built floating docks with power (30 amp) and water pedistals.

However, there are no showers, toilets, or laundry since they are on an island in the TennesseeRiver and must use a septic tank instead of a sewer system.

The Hard Dock restaurant on the grounds looks like something right out of the movie "Roahdouse" with the matching clientele. Very friendly people, cold beer, marginal food, and plenty of colorful local characters.

Old Municipal Marina, 2009-10-13
Captain: , Charlotte Harbor, FL (1548)

Not impressed. Older worn out marina was the impression. Pumpout was broken and pumped into the river. No water at the transient dock. Bare wires from a jerryrigged plug could be dangerous. It's okay to get you off the river and they do have a few transient slips for a cheap rate.....but I woudnt come again unless I had to get off the river.

Inexpensive but stategic location, 2009-10-09
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

At 50 cents a foot you can overlook the limited services. The restaurant is very marginal on food quality.

Good stop, 2009-06-12
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens (452)

Good stop and friendly people. We were on a boat with 6 ft. draft and found the water deep upon enterance of the marina and along side the long transit dock next to the fuel dock. The resturant is OK but nothing special ( on a Tues. night).

Great place to stop, eat & rest, 2009-01-26
Captain: , Knoxville, TN (1788)

This is not a marina that has a restaurant, it is a restaurant. that has a marina. Nice, clean simple docks 100 yds from Hard Dock Cafe restaurant. This was very good food, with nice, helpful, friendly staff. This is the happening place on Saturday night, with a band playing. (FYI - no laundry or showers). Easy stop right on the river that is well protected.

Hard Dock Cafe at Marina, 2008-03-05
