Reviews for Riverview Marine Services
Friendly staff and great stop, 2017-08-12
Captain: , Table Rock Lake, Missouri (102)

Spent one night this August on Loop segment. Very helpful owner and staff. Good prices in Marina store for parts. Walking distance to a good restaurant and very scenic park that had a free music concert the night we there.
Restroom/shower facility was very clean.

Très bien !, 2017-06-15
Captain: , Montreal (110)

Unstepping our mast, 2017-05-29
Captain: , Rochester, NY (10)

Very nice marina. Clean bathrooms, nice shower, coin operated laundry. One thing to know is that they will operate the crane. You must do all the derigging etc of your boat so budget a longer amount of time if you are new to this. But they have lots of lumber and will lend tools.

Helpful and friendly, 2016-10-17
Captain: , Miami Beach, FL (210)

The owners have been located here for over 40 years and step and unstep a lot of masts. The showers and restrooms are clean and laundry is $1.50 to wash and $1 to dry. Cab ride to town is $4 one-way... SuperWalmart Price Chopper etc.

Called Hop-a-Nose twice; left a message once and they never responded or answered the phone.

Susan answered immediately and coordinated our arrival and dockage.

Propane is located next door M-F but can also be found at a couple of nearby gas stations on weekends.

Staff super friendly and town (15 minute walk) has a lot of great eateries...Try Verdigris for amazing chocolate and tea!

Great place to put your mast back up., 2016-10-13
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (500)

We stopped at Riverview Marina to put our mast back up. Since we were getting a service they discount your dock fee. Very clean showers and laundry on the premise. Stores are very close by. Took us 15 minutes to bike to Price Chopper or the Marina stated that you could get a cheap taxi ride. Uber might be available as well.

Mixed feelings on this marina, 2016-10-07
Captain: , Kingston (269)

We were here to have our mast stepped. We do this annually, but we are travelling south and this was our first time at this marina.

As a marina this place might rank as 1 or 2 star. The docks are suited to runabouts and small boats, not large sailboats. The fingers are about 35' so this is a consideration if you have a larger boat. The fingers float with no piling support so again, if you are heavy displacement and there is wind you will pull quite a bit. The marina yard is a gravel parking lot, the wifi is spotty, and there is 1 men's and 1 women's bathroom (shower/toilet combo). We purchased a few new split rings for our rig and they were completely rusted within a week--not impressed. The only reason I gave a 3 star review is that they are friendly, but I'm not sure this makes up for the quality of the facility. If you weren't stepping a mast you would not be impressed with a stay here.

The mast stepping experience was average. I've seen better operations and I have seen worse. They handle smaller masts well, but longer masts and unusual rigs (like cutters) seemed to present challenges to the crew. We were there 3 days and saw several masts being stepped. I would likely use Hop-O-Nose next time.

Mast stepping great., 2016-09-10
Captain: , Baltimore (181)

They handle well over 100 masts going up or down, so they make you feel comfortable and do an attentive job.

Mast taken down, resupply, 2016-07-02
Captain: , Michigan (190)

We came here to take our mast down, fuel up and resupply. There have a quite good mast step/unstep area parrallel to the docks that is probably 85 feet long, so plenty of room for our 60 foot mast. A finger dock at each end allowed us to step ladder up to each end of our mast to remove parts and cover the ends. This was quite convienient as otherwise, we might have to put it on the hard.

Walmart and Lowes are less than 2 miles away, so any supplies are a short distance away. "Pronto" taxi gets you there and back for very resonable rates. They have wood and screws on site to build supports. And they are willing to get wood for you if need be.

The staff is freindly and courteous. There is a marine store on site for basic needs. A few resturants within a few hundred yards. And a park less than 1/4 mile away. Thursday night music night at the park.

The YES! Marina, 2016-05-15
Captain: , Lake St. Clair (177)

and by is!! Called to see if they could help remove outriggers from our new to us we will pick them up after our summer in Michigan..."that's a new one" says Mike...YES...we will figure it out! & YES he did! Nice to be around happy people!! Great stay, thanks again!

Mast Stepping, 2016-01-17
Captain: , Deale, MD (10)

Crew at Riverview were very patient and competant. We have been here two times, stepping and unstepping the masts on a 52' ketch. Mike was very knowlegable and careful in handling the rig. Not a scratch either time. He has everything on site to build support frames for the rigging if you do not have your own. Mike helped us even troubleshoot a few boat issues that we had. Clean bathroom and laundry facilities, fuel and pumpout. Great restaurant next door! Highly recommended marina!

watch the channel, 2015-10-13
Captain: , Dover (65)

had the mast stepped. mike and his guys do a good job. $150 for 40ft mast. watch the channel and markers. remember entering the harbor- green on the left. we ran aground and had to wait 6 hours to get free

Great place to step the mast, 2015-10-09
Captain: , Chicago (50)

Mike and Craig are efficient, friendly and patient. They know the drill and get it done. Marina is nice and the town charming. Bathrooms nice too

Excellent and careful service!, 2015-10-04
Captain: , Toronto (10)

Can't say enough about how well Mike (the proprietor) takes care of his customers.

Does not rush the mast stepping/unstepping process and has the space to put your mast on the hard to get it ready prior to stepping.

Good facilities and boating supplies.

They think they are Burger King, 2015-09-30
Captain: , Huron,OH - Little River, SC (680)

Remember the old Burger King commercial that ended with the catch phrase "You can have it your way at Burger King" ?
Well, that's how Mike and his crew treat dockers, transients, and boats raising or lowering their masts. Pretty much anything we needed or wanted during our mast steppping and subsequent one week stay, Mike was willing to stop what he was doing and help us out . Couple that with attractive dockage rates for weekly, and longer stays, and I can't understand why anyone would go to a different marina.
It is obvious Mike has put up and pulled down more than his fair share of masts, and his experience and attention to detail are top notch.
Next time you are in the area, stop in at the Burger King of marinas..... you will not be disappointed.

Mast step and overnighting, 2015-09-15
Captain: , Bayfield WI (10)

These guys know their stuff and we had our mast back up in no time, with all the time we needed after to re-rig. Showers and short walk to restaurants and pubs, and longer but charming walk to many more of both. We provisioned with our bike. Mike and his gang were helpful at every turn. -- Thanks!!

A repeat stop for us, 2015-08-28
Captain: , Marthas Vineyard (506)

We stop for dockage and fuel, it always seems like a convenient stop, easy to get into, friendly helpful staff at this working yard. Has a good washroom and laundry, wifi, and you'd can walk into the village if Catskill in 10 minutes. Not good for provisioning but there are a few interesting small shops. The dockage seems a tad high, but most of the competition is higher. If you can figure out how to get to Olana from here and have the time, do that. Three stars in my own rating system equals a good marina.

Service to Remember, 2015-08-25
Captain: , Racine, WI (525)

Mike was reassuring about getting my mast stepped. Did a great job and the price cannot be beat. Stayed 3 days. These guys know their job. Excellect customer service.

on tour with my boys, 2015-08-19
Captain: , Kingston ny (10)

Very nice marina Mike will take good care of you.
Spotless bathrooms/showers/laundry facility.
Got in late we talked earlier in the day he told me to take slip #1 and he would see me in the AM
Kayak rentals and a bird sanctuary directly across the creek for the marina%u2026saw a bald eagle!

step and unstep, 2015-08-07
Captain: , Olcott, NY (2536)

Normally we do the step and unstep at Castleton-on-the-Hudson boat club, but this year the weather was so unstable that the docks at the club were really bucking and the wave conditions were such that we chose Riverview to do the work.
Going south it was my 79th unstep and was done in a quick and professional manner by Mike.
Same with our stepping on our way north. Took us less than 8 minutes, as we were well prepared.
At a $1.75 per foot, it is expensive but again you don't have to hassel with the stick more than you'd like too.
Very friendly staff.
i would have given them five stars, except the Heads and showers could use an update to more modern facilities, which i hear they are contemplating.

Mast stepping, 2015-07-02
Captain: , Tonawanda,NY (261)

Mike is fast at getting the mast down, 20 min. and the price was right.

best place to position for Erie Canal transit, 2015-06-11
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

we pulled in to the marina after 5 and Mike was patient to wait for us to assit tying us to the face dock. It appears they really enjoy transients especially loopers as the interest he showed was genuine in our plans to completer the great loop this year. The marina is small but professional offering mast stepping or un stepping and haul outs. $1.75/ft plus $5 for electric.

the distance to Warerford is such that an early arrival will make dock space more likely available, although we came throiugh with the pack and there was still open space at the free dock at Waterford.

We have stayed here before and will definately stop here again next spring.

Not for Larger Power Boats, 2015-05-19
Captain: , Seattle Wa (200)

We are a 40 foot LOA boat and we were put on a 30 foot finger pier next to the boat launch in pretty high wind. Mike was very reasonable and friendly when we decided to leave after an hour. They specialize in sailboat mast stepping/unstepping and not on transient power boats. As a marina, it looks like a good boatyard.
I think my ratings are tougher than some peoples. Here are my rating guidelines - - 1 star - Lousy, skip this one- 2 star - Not terrible but I wouldn't come back- 3 star - Nice, I liked it overall and would return- 4 star - Great experience including facilities, management and setting- 5 star - Spectacular everything (there aren't many of these)

Great Marina and staff, 2015-02-01
Captain: , Green Cove Springs Florida (22)

Mike and the crew are great. They stepped my mast. They were professional, prompt and courteous. Facilities are fine. Prices reasonable.

Not elegant but a good spot to stop, 2014-09-16
Captain: , Avondale, PA (448)

This marina was nearly full of sailors head south who stopped to get their masts stepped. Everyone I talked to was pleased with that service. We were given the last available slip which was exposed to the east and might have been uncomfortable if eastern winds had blown, but we slept soundly. The heads and showers were clean and well maintained. It's a short walk to town with several places to eat (including a great ice cream place called "Cone E Island"). The staff was knowledgable and quite helpful, even rearranging power cords and providing an extension to accomodate our need for 50 amps. I'll certainly stop here on my way back up the river!

A great working marina, 2014-07-08
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (110)

An older but tidy facility. They are right on service. I had the boat pulled to replace the zincs. they were right on it. There is a good restaurant near and a park across the street that had summer entertainment. The town is close and it is a $4.00 cab ride around town. A good place to stay.

Thums Up and a great place for mast down and up, 2014-07-07
Captain: , North Hero (10)

Great spot and more to the point great people. Mike the mechanic knows his stuff. Close to the restaurant on the point. Efficient with good equipement fot mast down and up.

fantastic team -- great help and support, 2014-07-04
Captain: , Montreal (10)

thanks a lot guys

Great Service, 2014-05-12
Captain: , Vandalia, Ohio (170)

Called Sunday and Mike told me they had water pump we needed. Met by Mike upon arrival Monday. John, the technician, was with him and was working on pump repair in 5 minutes. We could not ask for a better experiance. Prices charged were very fair. Service like the good old days. Thanks Mike and crew!

Un_stepping mast service, 2014-03-20
Captain: , Montreal,Qc. Canada (10)

Last fall, we un_step the mast and I was very impress how meticulous they are. Mike and John are very professionnal and they care about boat. I highly recommended.

Great service!!!, 2013-11-14
Captain: , Montreal (90)

Came in late in the season Mike help us get ready for the rest of our journey to the Bahamas. He had just everything we needed in his shop all for a very reasonable price!! Highly recommended for anyone who need to get work done on their boat!

AWESOME MARINA, 2013-10-24
Captain: , Catskill, Ny (155)

Being local I can attest that Mike and Sue run a quality, respectable business in the community, as well as an awesome local source for boat owners. Please make Riverview a stop along the way if you are looking for a place to moor up or have some work done.

Most helpful folks, 2013-09-23
Captain: , Wicomico Church (610)

The dockmaster/owner took special care of us; the restrooms were clean and the nearby restaraunt had good food. Only down side was the it seemed to be slipping away..

Great service by solid professionals., 2013-09-09
Captain: , Toronto, ON (1763)

Miike supervised the un-stepping of our mast, there was plenty of free lunber to build a cradle and we were on our way in plenty of time. $175 for a 45'mast.

Mast Stepping Service, 2013-09-07
Captain: , Bethlehem, PA (736)

I recommend RMS. We had the mast of our C380 stepped after transiting the canal on our way South. Mike is easy to work with and attentive to boater's needs. His crew understands how to rig, lift and set masts.

Note that this location, as well as others on the ceek, is not within a reasonable walking distance to food markets. You'll most likely need to call a CAB to take you where you can reprovision.

supurb riggers and mast workers, 2013-09-04
Captain: , Scotia, NY (20)

Mike and John were simpley amazing!
They handled an extremely complicated and difficult destepping. Friendly, efficient and helpful in all other aspects of helping the transient boater. Heads and laundry clean, nearby resturant excellent.
Boomerang and Islandia greatly appreciated all the work and all pricing was extremely fair.

great gas prices, 2013-08-17
Captain: , Fairfield Harbour, NC (50)

Stopped in for gas at $4.20 per gallon. Very friendly and helpful staff. Even made sure we knew red/green markers would change sides for southbound vessels.

Good ships store, parts inventory, great service and mast stepping, 2013-08-05
Captain: , Brisbane, Australia (399)

We stayed here for two nights while getting our mast stepped. Riverview is run by a family, all hands on deck, who all have a real commitment to customer service. We were able to get our mast stepped, pick up some replacement fenders at the ships store and find some electrical fittings we needed from the parts store. All services were reasonably priced.

Friendly and Helpful, 2013-06-28
Captain: , Freeport, ME (608)

Stopped here for 3 days, killing time waiting for the Erie to reopen. The dock boys/staff were among the most professional we have run into this trip. The owners, Mike and Susan, were on the premises all day, every day we were here. I needed a simple part - saw Mike who found a part number, and Susan got the order in by 4pm; The part was delivered the next noontime for no additional charge above the cost of the part. That's service, and all done with a smile.

Barbershop 1/2 mile walk up Main Street, grocery and other stores a short cab ride away ($3.50 for two of us each way).

The showers and heads were clean, protection from wakes good, the current minimal (up the creek just far enough), and there was a small store of necessities and boat goodies. Definitely a place to stop if you are going to overnight in the area.

They really care..., 2013-06-19
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

This is a family owned business and it is obvious that Mike and Susan really care about their customers. The staff is knowledgable and professional. It's a short walk into town and the view across to the protected island is beautiful. Next time we will make sure to leave time to take our kayaks down and explore. If you don't carry kayaks, you can rent them from Riverview.

If you need your mast de-stepped this is the place to do it. We watched them handle boat after boat and were impressed with their expertise. It was obvious they had done this thousands of times. They handled even the most difficult one with skill. Fascinating to watch. Thank you Mike and Susan for a very pleasant stay!

Great marina...even for a power boat!, 2013-06-06
Captain: , Winter Garden, Fl (2350)

We picked Riverview Marina based soley on the Active Captain reviews and it's website. We wanted a marina that was not on a shoreline of the Hudson - we were going to leave the boat for a week and didn't want it beat up on the dock by wakes. Riverview was a great choice. It was off the river, up Catskill Creek far enough to not be effected by wakes and protected from the summer storms as well. The owner, Mike, was personable, accomodating and ready to make your visit just right. On top of it all there was a web cam that afforded me a view of my boat anytime during the week I was gone...just to make me feel better and know that everything was OK.

Great marina.

Good place to step a mast, 2012-11-16
Captain: , Roseville MN (398)

Got stuck in the shallows entering the river here. Called TowboatUS, who 3-wayed the call to the nearest towboat, which was SeaTow. They wanted $1500 (!!!) to come pull us off the shoal. Even if our TowboatUS would have paid for it, this was unacceptable %u2013 to put it mildly (and we didn't). We waited for the tide to lift us off, a couple of hours later. We then spent the night at this marina and, in hindsight, should have had them step the mast for us. Great marina!

Great place to get your mast stepped, 2012-10-22
Captain: , Longboat Key (110)

Had our mast stepped here and cannot say enough about how profession they were. It is a great place for a stop after the canals. Walmart for groceries is a bit of a walk or a fairly easy bike ride.

Excellent service, 2012-09-23
Captain: , ST-JEAN-SUR-RICHEL QC (70)

The marina service is excellent, Mike and his wife make you feel at home, the mast stepping of the mast of a 50ft sailboat was done by H-O-N personnels was a charm. Wallmart open 24hrs, taxi service is affordable.

Riverview Marine Services, 2012-09-17
Captain: , Toronto (280)

When it comes time to drop your mast you'd be advised to put in here. The facility is rustic but they have everything you need and they really seem to care about your boat. They were both helpful and patient. They were also inundated in the 2011 surge but were not deterred

Easy on/off river and good resturant, 2012-09-15
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (778)

Mike the dockmaster stayed open late for us to fuel up so we could make a early run in the morning. Ships store looks fairly well stocked. Good resturant "Port of Call" a 1/4 mile walk away.

Outstanding Customer Focus, 2012-08-06
Captain: , Occoquan, VA (456)

We arrived at this marina with potential transmission problems. Mike and crew came aboard, listened to our woes and symptoms, and pronounced their opinion. They could not have been more focused, professional, personable, and accommodating. It didn't hurt that their opinion regarding our problem turned out to be 100% correct.

Even the young lady who helped us with a pumpout was enthusiastic and personable. Without a doubt, this marina is on our "return" list.

need help, stop here., 2012-06-27
Captain: , Marlboro Yacht Club, Marlboro NY (515)

we needed help rigging something until a part could be ordered, they were great and we got it to work. Thank you
nice place, they have gas and nice ships store.

Riverview all set, 2012-06-08
Captain: , Camden, Maine (38)

Riverview has made all the necessary repairs and is operating normally. They are very friendly and helpful. Showers are some of the cleanest we have seen and there is no charge for them.
Do go to town to see the cat sculptures.

Mast Stepping, 2012-05-29
Captain: , Sandusky, OH (30)

We used Riverview to have our sailboat mast taken down in April 2012. Mike and his crew did a great job. They took their time, had a quality crane, and good helpers. We also left our boat there for three weeks. The marina is more of a boat yard than marina, but the quality of service was very good. I would recommend Riverview for mast work.

Riverview Marine Service, 2011-09-18
Captain: , Lake in The Hills, Illinois (542)

We were delayed due to Irene. When we were able to get to Riverview, the owner Mike did everything he could to accomadate us and numerous other boaters. The marina was able to professionally step our mast and help us with needed repairs. Although they are still rebuilding after the storm he is trying to do whatever he can to help sailboats get their masts stepped quicklly and get boaters on their way. This is a working marina so do not expect a lot of luxury. But the people and service are first class. Our boat is 48' and Mike found space for us.

Good place for mast stepping and general boat maintenance, 2011-09-10
Captain: , Gulf Shores Alabama (748)

Update after Hurricane Irene Flooding 9/5/11 Just called Susie at the marina and the Docks were completely destroyed (gone) by flood waters from Catskill Creek. Since they are accustomed to pulling their floating docks out of the water every winter, they should have the ability to replace their docks in a timely manner. For Erie canal cruisers wanting to re-step their masts this fall heading south, please call Mike or Susie before arriving to see if they can accomodate you. 518-943-5311.

Came in for mast stepping after the Erie canal and ended up taking more time and having some additional work done. Mike was glad to take the mast off the boat and lay it on saw horses on the bank so that we could install our new Radar mount before putting the mast up. That took about 2 days. We only paid slip rental of 1.25 ft. As soon as we got it installed and wires pulled, we then pulled the boat back to the well and he put the mast in for no additional charge. Just the one charge for mast stepping.
He was still using his old style crane and the operators were masters using it with smooth and thoughtful work getting the mast in. They now have a new crane that has a smoother hydraulic cabling system, so they should be even better with it.
They can now lift larger and taller masts, to the 65+ foot range.

We ended up keeping the boat there for a full month while we flew home for some personal affairs and Mike and the crew kept their eyes on the boat while we were gone. Secuirty there is good and theft has not been an issue. They have a web-cam that allows you to watch the marina and yard real-time while you are away.

The ship's store which is run by Susie is very well stocked and had just about every part we needed.

Nothing Fancy - Nice Place for the Night, 2011-08-14
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

Riverview is not a fancy marine but provides everything a boater needs. Restrooms are new and were very clean. Folks were very friendly - offering a ride to town.

The town is a about 1/2 mile up hill of course! Thai restaruant was decent - several others for breakfast/lunch. Did not go to town for dinner. Good place to stop as we lost the current down the Hudson around noon.

Un-stepped the mast here, 2011-07-13
Captain: , Cornucopia WI (30)

We un-stepped mast here before transiting the Canal and they really knew what they were doing. Mike said they do 100's of masts every year. The had a lot of used lumber for free and even gave us screws to put it together. They were very helpful and easy to work with.
We stayed one night (July 11, 2011) and found their restrooms very clean and their store well stocked.

Masters of mast-stepping, 2011-05-11
Captain: , Macedon, NY (70)

We spent two nights here and enjoyed watching the operators step the masts of a couple of sailboats, a process we'd never seen. Friendly, service-oriented facility.

The crew at Riverview is #1. I bought 2 outboards from them and service work is top notch led by Mike and Sue.

We re-stepped mast here after transiting the Canal. Mike is a veteran, and attends to every detail. He and his crew did a great job with our mast.
Restrooms/showers were clean.
Slips are tight. Boats much larger than mine (37') should stick to the fuel dock. If you use a slip and have you mast down in a cradle, beware of the tidal range. End of mast likely extends over land and can hit obstructions (close call for me).
It's a hike to get into town. Cab is best bet. If you need a rental car for any reason there is an Enterprise across the river, and they pick up.
