River Haven Marina and the whole experience, 2017-07-12
Captain: , Sebastian (55)

Stopped for 1 night after a rough passage through the t storms from Carrrabelle. We stayed 4 days because the folks were so friendly. We spent 1 day scallop hunting with our new friend Capt Jim Henley. We highly recommend his services. What a great day, Mary got her first elusive scallop and it was a great day on the water. Don't miss this place.

This rating system is ridiculous, 2016-11-18
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

The owners, staff, and locals were all very nice, but a rating system is supposed to take into account all the marina infrastucture and amenities. I hope future cruisers looking at this marina will not be fooled by the 5 stars given by other reviewers. If you have cruised a lot, this is a two-star facility.

Scallops 2016 season, 2016-06-27
Captain: , Apollo Beach (244)

Steinhatchee and scallop season. June 25th 2016 opening day. This appears to be an above average year. FINALLY! The water is clear and the scallops are abundant once a patch is located. Three of us snorkeled in 3 to 5 feet off of Horseshoe Beach and bagged our 6 gallon limit in less than 2 hours staying within 300 feet of boat. Our cooler was one of dozens waiting at the cleaning station. Most were gathered along the edges of sand and grass patches although the eel grass is infested with them. Sizes ranged from 2" to monstrous 4" but the smaller ones were heavy with meet. The rest of day we fished for sea trout bagging enough to feed us all lunch and dinner. We hired Captain Jim Henley (423 330 0101) as Pegasus (44 Manta Pw Cat) unsuited for scalloping and a little rough for the tender. Deadman's Bay notorious for chop, nick-named the "washing machine". Locals say it is all the angry souls of the sailors that lost their lives on the shallows so be careful. Jim put us on scallops in record time all the while entertaining my CPA wife with an endless supply of stories about his prior life as a corporate Tax Accountant. My wife said he was the best part of the charter and she caught the most fish.
We moored Pegasus at River Haven Marina. Can't say enough nice things about the owners Tim and Jan and crew Sherry, Elaine, and Caylum. They went out of their way to find a nice place for our 21 foot beam even though marina busting the seams with boats. They have upgraded their electric with solid 50 amp service and the water pressure and quality is fantastic. Sorry didn't visit he heads so can't comment on them but the facility is spotless clean and well kept. Great ships store and River Haven also boasts a hotel. Boat US discount doesn't apply during scallop season but at a buck per foot plus $3 for electric it's cheap. Town maintains its Old Florida charm. Don't expect resort amenities but you can count on helpful friendly people. Melissa owner of Kathi's Krabs a locals restaurant and fish market opened her market so that we could refresh our fish supply for the run home.
Entrance channel narrow in places but navigable and deep enough any tide not to worry our 3 foot draft but not for the faint of heart with fifty boats running wide open to get to those scallops. After all they can swim and may get away. Watch the outrunning current when docking.
This part of Florida's Big Bend has suffered badly during the recession. Scallop season is a big part of their economy and it is nice to see people turning out for this bumper harvest. If you have never scalloped before it is an activity the entire family can do and it is fun. There are plenty of scallops for everyone but season ends in September.

Full of old charm and nice people, 2016-03-29
Captain: , atlanta (100)

with boat US dockage was $.60 a foot. That included water and power. Fuel was $2.79 a gallon but going up with the new load.
fiddlers restaurant one block east was excellent but pricey.

Super nice staff and owners, 2016-02-27

Wow, where do I begin? We arrived about a week before Thanksgiving, along with two other trawlers. They really aren't set up for boats our size.(36-44'), but they made it happen! They have an annual Thanksgiving potluck, and we were all invited and made very welcome. I left Robyn's Nest there for three months and they took really great care of her. I would say the worst part of staying here is the rates. Probably the most reasonable rates I have paid in Florida. I wish I could give this place ten stars!!!!!

Great help - friendly staff, 2014-04-29
Captain: , Tampa (30)

River Haven was the closest marina that could put my sailboat in the water. They were a great help as I sorted through many issues getting her ready to float then getting ready to sail. Mainly a fishing marina, the bridge required that I take her downstream to step the mast and finalize. Very happy with all their assistance. Nice hotel across the street too.

Stayed in Motel, 2012-03-28
Captain: , Carrabelle (364)

We stayed in one of the motel rooms scouting out a future sailing trip to Steinhatchee. It is a great value for a basic and clean room with a small fridge and microwave. The owners and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Transient slips are available.

Great Folks, 2012-03-19
Captain: , Gulf Shores AL (160)

Stayed here one night going around Big Bend. No problems with the depth. Helped to have a staff that was very knowledgeable about the tides. Docks are beat and really not set up for boats of any size. We are a 34 footer and they had trouble getting us set up with power etc. They were old docks but a wonderful staff made it a good stay.

They go the extra mile, 2011-09-12
Captain: , placida,fl (330)

We called and said we might be late. Told us someone would wait til we got there. Turns out we were only 2 min past closing (1800) but they would have waited. Couldn't find the keys for shower and restroom, so let me use hers.I promised I wouldn't forget.

Good Stay among Rude Fishermen, 2011-02-16
Captain: , Grove, OK (337)

Nice, economical stay here for a couple of nights. Marina staff was very friendly and helpful. The only downside to stopping here in Steinhatchee was trying to maneuver among the fishing boats that were hogging the channel. For almost 6000 miles around the Loop, we slowed so as to not wake fishermen....and they were always courteous and grateful. Not here, not only would they not move out of the channel, they gave us ice cold stares as we tried to maneuver our 47' trawler around and stay out of the shallow water in the shallow, shallow river. I'm not talking about just a few boats....maybe 50 and very few would move out of the way. Avoid Steinhatchee on the last day of trout season!!

Great place to stay in Steinhatchee, 2010-11-22
Captain: , Knoxville, TN (30)

Wonderful marina! The staff is friendly and helpful. Fiddlers Restaurant is a block away and you're within walking distance of the grocery store, Ace Hardware, post office...and a liquor store. Price of diesel was $1 less than the larger marina in town, and dockage was $25.80/night, including electric.

Nice place, cheapest fuel in town., 2010-11-20
Captain: , Stuart, Fl (435)

Nice place and cheap fuel, but the slowest fuel pump you ever saw! Probably took 30-40 minutes to pump 100 gallons. I noticed that all the big fishing boats got thier fuel at Sea Hag even thought it was .50 more/gallon.

Good place, 2010-05-28
Captain: , Destin, FL (180)

Great little place if you can get under the 25 foot bridge. Very reasonable, clean showers, and Toni (girl that works there) is kinda cute.
Oh, and they monitor channel 10 not 9 or 16.

Great place to stop, 2009-02-05
Captain: , Hite, Utah (15668)

The prices are right. The people are wonderful. Weather protection is good. It is a great place to stop.
