Reviews for River Forest Yachting Center - Stuart
Professional service, 2017-04-28
Captain: , Solomons Island Md (417)

Bent a prop on Lake Okeechobee on a Sunday. Left an email and message with George Wharton while cruising east. George returned my call even though they dont have Sunday business hours. The folks at River Forest fit us in during their busy season. We were back on the water first thing Thursady morning after Blairs Propeller reworked the prop. Without the attention and consideration provided by George and his staff we could have easily been off the water for a week.

Management response:
Thank you very much, we appreciate your review and thank you for your business.

A honest boatyard, 2017-04-17
Captain: , Portland,Oregon (330)

I needed bottom paint and some other jobs on my boat and after reading the reviews I decided to give this yard a try. It was very easy to get into and they were ready for me as I arrived with the sling empty and employees guiding me. They have a very nice lift here and staff trained how to use it.

After the boat was hauled out I met with George and Randy to discuss what work needed to be completed. Being a live-aboard and traveling on my boat I need the work done on time without delays. They worked me into not their schedule but my schedule. This was a huge change from what I have experienced at other yards.

I received calls and emails with updates and confirmation of the work I wanted to have done.

When it came time to pick up the boat it was ready and waiting for me. The bill for the work was very detailed with a full list of all the necessary items used and honest pricing.

Bottom line is you can't go wrong with this place! It is so hard to find an honest boatyard but this is one of them.
Jim Paddock

Management response:
Thank you Mr. Paddock for your review, our customer service is the most important aspect of our business as well as the quality of the work so we are very happy to hear that you were pleased with our services!

We had to return home for a week and contacted River Forest Yacht Center about below the waterline fiberglass repairs. Manager George Wharton (772-287-4131) informed me they offered this and other repair services and could perform the work during our time frame. When we arrived we noticed several boats on the hard either being prepped or in the process of bottom painting. Our boat was hauled and an estimate of the repairs was provided the next day. Assistant Service Manager Randy Wilson provided pictures of the progress of the repairs during and after completion. We also had a spare prop that needed some minor repair and George informed me they contract a shop in Stuart that specializes in that service. I had RFYC send in my spare prop and an estimate of repair was provided within a couple of days. I had RFYC remove my existing prop and install the refurbished spare prop and also install a maintenance kit on my existing line cutter. Although I added additional work to my original repair request, RFYC completed all of the work and had our boat back in the water on our arrival date. I was very pleased with the work that was performed by RFYC and the professionalism of George and Randy during our entire stay.

The RFYC facility is located in a residential area but Enterprise (South Stuart 772-287-7730) will pick you up at this location. A five star rating is more for a repair facility than a marina, although the entire facility is very clean, well-protected, and a quiet place to stay along the waterway.

Management response:
Thank you Mr. Vicars for your kind review; we certainly appreciate it and also appreciate your allowing us to earn your business. Happy customers are very important to us. Best wishes.

This is a boat yard, 2016-04-11
Captain: , New Bern (20)

This is the cleanest boatyard I've ever seen. It consists of a single long narrow basin with concrete walls. Boats are tied along both sides of the basin making it tricky to turn around if you don't have a thruster or twin engines. Pilings are closely spaced along the walls to prevent contact with the concrete. Cleats, power pedistals are well spaced and in excellant condition with a nice grassey area for pets. If you don't need a restaurant or other amenities this is your place.

Great Marina, 2015-09-17
Captain: , San Francisco, CA (211)

Primarily a summer storage/hurricane marina River Forest is an exceptional facility. George, the general manager and Stacy, the office manager understand and execute what needs to be done. The staff has been trained to reach out to the customer and provide help. Approved third party subcontractors are avaliable for specialized repairs.
I'll return

Working Facility not a marina, 2015-04-17
Captain: , Grand Haven, MI (674)

Not a Marina but they let transients tie up and less expensive than further into Stuart. Friendly people and accomodating.
Tie up as far in as possible. Some boaters really make a wake as they pass and it rolls up the inlet and can really rock the boats.
This is a storage and repair facility so don't expect it to be something it is not.

Great place in any weather., 2015-02-05
Captain: , Clearwater FL (685)

We stop here on the way east and back to the west. Arrived around 5pm when east bound, the manager came out to help us tie up. Tie up to a concrete wall, with power and water, all in great shape. West bound we had high winds, came in early and had help from 2 man crew. No radio, have to call by phone. We did not explore anything outside the marina. Will stop there again.

Easy Docking 1/5/2015 Extremely Clean, 2015-01-06
Captain: , Kuttawa Kentucky (410)

This is a boat yard, but has great shower facility and people were really nice who run the business. No courtesy car, but the local taxi Paradise Cab phone #772-781-8088. We tried to stay at another marina east of here, but due to high winds and narrow docks, opted to stay here. Has good wind protection. Talking about easy docking. Top Notch Docks. Would give it a 5 star, but no stores close, but remember this is a boat yard. Would stay here again. Also gives Boat U.S. Discounts.

Friendly, Responsive, Clean, 2014-09-25
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (492)

Tracey answered my emails after closing for the evening, which was indicative of the fine and friendly attention we were to receive. George met us, after 17:00, and helped us tie and refused to accept a gratuity!
Though we are new to boating we have never seen this.
Great wifi. EZ docking. Clean as could be. Seemed very secure.
Only possible negatives are that there are no restaurants or anything around and only 1 shower. Also, the shower gets a bit steamy on a hot evening and could use some added A/C.
Your boat is in good hands here!

Fine place to stop for the night, 2014-08-11
Captain: , philadelphia (440)

If it's the weekend, don't bother, they don't have anyone working, but during the week this is a pleasant and simple stopover. It's just two long concrete walls with water and electricity, and, other than the dockmaster, you probably won't see anyone the whole time you're there.

River Forest Yachting Center-Stuart, 2014-04-12
Captain: , Palmetto Fl (545)

We stayed here on our way west for one night. It is a storage facility, but they allow transients to tie up to their wall for $1.35/ft. The grounds are very nice, with tables set up along the wall. It is an excellent alternative to Indiantown if you just need a quick stopover. We arrived on a Saturday so the place was closed, but when we called they told us to pay them on Monday. They forgot to leave the bathrooms open for us even though they said they would. Not a problem. There is a nice grassy area for the dog.

Another Great Facility, 2014-03-22
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

We had stayed at their La Belle facility so our expectations were for another great stop. We were not disappointed. River Forest is so much more than most boaters realize. I had thought of them as primarily a storage facility and they certainly excel in that category. Their storage sheds are magnificent - hurricane rated, large enough to handle most any boat, clean and with a choice of climate controlled or not. They even have great outdoor storage with hurricane rated tie downs. All offered within their lock-protected basin. But what surprised us was everything else they offer.

When you come in the grounds are beautiful and clean with nice landscaping, not what you think of when considering a storage facility and boatyard. And that's the second surprise. They are also a full service boatyard. We saw boats of all sizes being worked on.

And they have great transient docking available along the walls of the well protected basin. It's perfect for a stopover or to stay while having work done. There's even plenty of places to walk your dog in the neighborhood surrounding the marina and a field at the marina where you can throw a ball. Add to all this a very professional, helpful and friendly staff and you have a place that you should definitely check out. Stop in for the night but make sure to check out all they offer. You'll very likely be back for their other services.

Captain: , Equality (10)

We left our boat here for 10 months in 2013. They took excellent care of it, reporting to us by phone every month. Between Tracie and George, they cannot do enough for their customers. Nice, clean, well run facility with tip top yardmen. Ask for ActiveCaptain

Great Staging Location for Crossing Florida, 2014-01-25
Captain: , Edenton, NC (887)

Jan 14 Update: River Forest remains our choice for a crossing of Florida. A 7kt trawler can make Moore Haven from here and not worry about sequencing a lock.

Because River Forest is above the lock it is a great staging location for crossing Florida. It shortens the day whether going east or west. It is a very clean and well kept place. George and Tracy are very helpful with every inquiry. It is a good value, with Boat/US discount it is $1.31/ft which is below average for Florida slips. The only negative is that there isn't really anything in the area ashore. We saw plenty of water on entry (greater than nine ft).

Good place to Dock and not go anywhere, 2014-01-23
Captain: , Clear Lake, TX (694)

We stopped for a night and were met by staff who helped us dock. There is a nice, clean shower and head but nothing else close by. The price was reaonable at $1.31/ft including electric. A nice place to get organized before or after Okeechobee.

Got a great weekly rate., 2013-12-20
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

protected, haul out, no courtesy car,but enterprise available. Not walkable to stores.

Nice place to overnight crossing the Okeechobee, 2013-03-12
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

Stopped for the night - very friendly service - modern hurricane hole. No other ammenities like shopping or restaurants. Easy in and out with long protected facing docks. Watch carefully for the sign - small and a little hard to see. Heading east it is just a bit past the 76A bridge, after the tug boat facility, and before the private canal side docks - there is a 90 degree turn to starboard into the hurricane hole.

A definate stop, 2013-01-19
Captain: , Bohemia River, Md (184)

We stop here every year! It's a state of the art facility, designed as a 'hurricane hole'. The staff are always helpful and very friendly. There is no laundry, and not much to do in the area, but a safe place to stay with easy docking! And always fun to look at the nice boats that are getting work done here.

Good staging point for crossing Okeechobee, 2013-01-15
Captain: , Rising Sun, DE (210)

New, well maintained, easy in-out and well placed for transiting Lake Okeechobee.

First class all the way, 2012-11-28
Captain: , Buffalo (1154)

This is a beautiful facility with excellent service from the staff, and a careing management. Everything is spotlessly clean and in good repair. They have a travelift, and do repairs of all kinds including paint. Tieups are along a wall, but since it is above the lock, it is fresh water and there is no tide. The only negative is that there is no closeby shopping or restaurants.

Looked like an excellant yard and a clean facility., 2012-03-08
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1306)

We just stayed one night before running across Okeechobee to the other River Forest.
Staff was very friendly.

Quiet & protected area, nice facility, 2012-01-30
Captain: , Marthas Vineyard (506)

While most boaters have shorter stays , we stayed for several weeks and left the boat there for several months. The yard is immaculate and quiet with gated security. This is not primarily a marina, but has good facilities -- there are lots of power stands, strong wifi, several stone picnic tables & benches, and friendly helpful personnel. One very clean bath/shower. Good rates, too. Only thing is you need a car -- Enterprise is not far and will pick you up. Stuart has lots of services and amenities within a few miles drive. There is also a storage facility about a mile away.

Just a transient's perspective, 2012-01-10
Captain: , Pinnacle, NC, USA (1422)

In a 25' pocket trawler, with dogs. High fixed concrete docks make for ackward boarding acrobatics. Clean facilities, shared with staff, ample dog walking areas. Off the river with 7' at the dock. Serving transients, while incindental to their core boat storage business was well handled. Good value.

Channel silting in, 2011-05-05
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (639)

Water levels are 5' below normal due to dry season without rain. My 34' trawler draws less than 4' and I kept getting stuck in the silt in the entry channel. I could not get to the dock on the north side before the dog-leg. Larger boats with more power and twin screws just plowed through. They tried to pull me into the dock in several places to no avail. After 1/2 hour of attempting to dock, we left and anchored by the lock.

Good stop on the Okeechobee Waterway, 2011-04-06
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (539)

Stayed overnight there in March 2011. Very clean, easy side tie bulkhead, protected, depth for 6 foot draft, repairs available. Not a resort. No shoping or food nearby. Principally used as dry storage for large boats in climate controlled buildings. Very fine facility for seasonal storage - five stars for that.

Easy transient access and great hurricane facility, 2011-03-25
Captain: , Cruising (3310)

Although the River Forest facilities feature secure hurricane storage both outside and inside a climate controlled building, it is a fabulous boat yard with full services (no do-it-yourself), and a very convenient transient stop-off just west of the St. Lucie Lock.
The facility is extremely clean and neat, and the staff couldn't be more friendly, helpful, and capable.

Imaculate and Impecable!, 2011-01-05
Captain: , Whitby UK (111)

Serivice at River Forest is impeccable and a model for any boat maintenance facility. The manager (John smith) ensures that everything is priced fairly and everything is documented in a most professional manner!
We used the storage for 5 mths during early 2010 and the price was only a smigeon more that the boneyards! To keep my boat secure and undercover for 5 mths for a such a small fee was in mmy view a bargain! On my return my boat was on the slings, batteries charged and hose-washed, without additional charge!
If you need to store your 'pride and joy' - this is the 1st place to consider!

A Beautiful facility, 2010-11-18
Captain: , Stuart, Fl (435)

This full service boat yard opened in 2005. First class place, a working boat yard that you could eat off the grounds! I was impressed and would definitely look here to get work done. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
