Reviews for River Dunes Marina
Great Marina, 2017-08-20
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1306)

Nice staff, beautiful grounds, lots of amenities, peace and quiet.
Rich went out of his way to make us feel welcome.
Definitely not a marina we'll pass by.

Qualifies for a six star rating, 2017-07-03
Captain: , Buffalo (1154)

The nicest marina we have stayed at.The only downside was the bugs after the hurricane. We will be back.

Update: As promised we came back. No point in repeating what everyone else has said. ActiveCaptain needs to have a sixth star just for this place

Update 6/17: Not much has changed. Still the best there is.

Wonderful Place & Dockmaster, 2017-06-11
Captain: , Venice, FL (170)

Been here before...and we'll be back again. Rich was wonderful. Courtesy van for run into Oriental for a nice meal and provisions. Can't beat the hospitality.

Inadequate Connectivity, 2017-06-04
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (732)

We stopped here after 3 days in the ocean to rest and take care of some business email, etc. This is a lovely facility, and would probably be a fun stop to lie around the pool in a resort mode, but the electronic connectivity was totally inadequate. I was right in front of the office, so I was able to connect to the weak wi-fi signal, but the internet connection behind the wi-fi had bandwidth reminiscent of the 128K dial-up days. Worse, it was not due to demand overload, as the place was absolutely deserted. Cellular signals here aren't much better. We had to move on after one night in search of internet connectivity. Hopefully we can return some day when I can afford to be "off the grid" awhile.

First class and friendly staff, 2017-06-03
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale (221)

This is a very nice upscale marina not far from Oriental NC. Well marked but winding entrance off river but once inside cut channel to marina very protected. Staff was very helpful and professional and the marina is first rate with nice pool, fitness room, steam showers etc. Used courtesy car and visited Silos a few miles away. Decent food, fun entertainment with local music.

Really Nice, 2017-05-18
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (986)

Beautiful property and marina. Outstanding bath house with steam showers! Professional staff and very helpful. Clubhouse and shopping were great. Only nit is the depths coming into RD. Some areas not marked and were 2' you that pucker factor. Stay off the entrance green...from there to marina entrance nothing is marked. Maybe buoys would be appropriate....

Great Stop, 2017-05-10
Captain: , Westport CT (554)

Third time stopping here on 5/3....very secure, excellent floating docks, restaurant, pool, etc. ....all good. But...the wifi service here is awful ...for the price and to fit the rest of the amenities they really need to upgrade the wifi. End up using my phone as a hot spot most of the time.

Second time at River Dunes and they remain a top notch marina. Staff could not have been nicer, well protected, first rate amenities.

They did a very nice job of providing a "Transient Dinner" buffet on nights when the full club dinner is not available.

We be back.

Destination transient spot, 2017-05-05
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1191)

We really like this marina. Excellent storm protection, well maintained floating docks, seasoned dock master, well marked approach, enough depth under our 4' draft keel, exceptionally clean facilities well outfitted, wonderful pool, very nice restaurant when open, and courtesy car. We'll be back again.

Favorite Marina, 2017-05-02
Captain: , Lake Lotawana (20)

Everything is top notch. Well protected basin. Very nice pool, restaurant, showers, club house, docks, and provision store. Loaner car available to get to Oriental. Water depth coming into inlet was as low as 7.6. Beautiful setting for bike riding.

amazing stop, 2017-04-26
Captain: , Somers Point, NJ (230)

We read the reviews and when we saw we needed a place to sit out some weather we decided to see it for ourselves. To put it simply, this is the best marina I have ever seen. Great docks, great people, restrooms you wish you had in your home, steam showers, legitimate gym, pool, hot tub, cabanas, free loaner van, clubhouse and restaurant. If you ever get a chance to stop here you have to give it a try.

Greatest Marina, 2017-02-28
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (451)

I am updating my review to report that the on-site Provision Company is open for coffee, tea, muffins, and bagels, along with a good assortment of snacks. They now also sell truly gourmet foods that you can cook aboard for a great meal. They also stock some boat maintenance items, essential cruising staples, great lines of boating clothing, and boat dining entertaining accessories. This marina continues to excel with its immaculate and sheltered floating docks, and the great assistance they always provide. We have repeatedly sailed the US Atlantic Coast for over 30 years, and River Dunes is the best marina we have ever encountered. It is extremely protected! Rich, the dockmaster is top notch, the restaurant is fantastic, and the facilities are classy in all respects. The dockage rates are very reasonable and everyone who visits expresses total satisfaction. This beautiful marina has laundry facilities, a well equipped exercise room, very nice and clean private showers and rest rooms, a spotless swimming pool, and a club house which is open to marina guests that ranks with the best of country clubs. The marina is pet friendly and the staff are true professionals. There is also a courtesy van to use to get into nearby Oriental, NC., which now has a great grocery store and a marine consignment shop. In Hurricanes Irene, Sandy, Arthur, and Mathew there was no damage here to any boat. During both transient seasons and the summer, there are always special events, from free outdoor movies to special transient dinners in the elegant club house, and outdoor gatherings by the fire pits. You will be very rewarded by staying here... for a night or forever!

Simply the BEST, 2016-11-02
Captain: , Rock Hall, Maryland (41)

Best staff with the best Harbormaster, Capt Rich Beliveau, in command. Pristine, peaceful, private tranquility at its best. It doesn't get better than River Dunes Marina. XOXO

River Dunes is a very nice protected marina we had not stayed at. We were very pleased with the docks, facility and Tom-just wish we could have stayed more than one night!
We'll be back!

Amazing Marina and Staff, 2016-10-22
Captain: , EAST GREENWICH RI (171)

This is the absolute best Marina we ever stayed in. We planned one day and stayed 3. We would have stayed longer if we didn't need to catch the northerly winds to Charleston. We are already planning a trip back in May. Rich, Ed, thank you. Love this place!

Great Stopover, 2016-10-17
Captain: , SUNNY ISLES BEACH (71)

Stopped at River Dunes for the first time on our way north. Great marina with very helpful staff. Everything was first class. Restaurant was only open Friday and Saturday night, but the meals were excellent.

Good service River Dunes Marina, 2016-10-11
Captain: , Lac Champlain (10)

During the hurricane Matthew, the sailing vessels Luciole and Perla opted for River Dunes Marina in Oriental, North Carolina.

This Marina is protected from all sides. During the hurricane Rich?s team was watching over us. We were all on the 72, they regularly called us and asked us if everything was ok. We felt really confident. They have a great team!

We highly recommend this Marina, with his professionalism by its facilities. Even if there is not a hurricane it is worth the detour!

Confusing diesel pricing, 2016-09-02
Captain: , Point Marina, Whortonsville, NC (506)

In their fuel data in one place it says "includes all taxes" and two lines down it says "does not include taxes". Which is it?
it also says .10 discount for BoatUS members, but when I fueled there last month they told me that their only discound was for over 300 gallons.

Enjoyed Our Stay, 2016-08-25
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (280)

Very nice facility. Everything was clean, the pool was great the docks are in great condition. The entrance was very straight forward and never saw less than 7 feet of water. The use of the courtesy car to visit Oriental was nice as there is nothing else really within walking distance.

WiFi was strong and fast. The only negative of the visit was after fueling. I was still in the engine room when the dock hand started to untie the boat. I hadn't even started the engines yet! I almost gave 4 stars just because of that but overall the place deserves 5 stars.

River Dunes Marina and Facilities, 2016-08-18
Captain: , Chocowinity NC (20)

Well Done River Dunes !
The Pamlico Sail and Power Squadron cruised to River Dunes this past weekend for a get together and view the Dragon Boat races. Although it was quite warm everyone had a great time.
From Rich the dockmaster, Tommy the assistant dockmaster, Kee, the Resturant manager and Sherwood the events coordinator everyone made our stay enjoyable.
We had one of our largest cruises with 13 boats on Friday and two more on Saturday for 15 total.
Docking assistance was great considering multiple boats arriving at one time. Friday dinner was excellent as was the service which can be an issue with big groups.
The new Provisioning store came in handy, someone always forgets something !
Bathroom facilities are the best, I have not found any better going to Florida and back.

We stayed here on the way down to Morehead City and on the way back and this place is amazing. On the return trip we rented their two story cottage for a two nights and they are as cool as the rest of of the marina.!!!!

AMAZING MARINA! & Even better staff!, 2016-07-26
Captain: , New Port Richey, FL (10)

A couple months ago, I was delivering a vessel from Long Island to New Port Richey, FL. On my way down decided to stop in for fuel because of their convient location off of the ICW. I called ahead to let them know we were coming. The staff were very helpful, friendly & knowledgeable. By the time we made it there the marina had been closed for some time. Luckily for us Rich (I believe his name was) was nice enough to come after hours in the dark and meet us for fuel. He knew we were on a delivery and understood that time was important to us.
I was taken back by the beauty of the marina and their amenities. Also, a hidden bonus was the incredibly fast high speed fuel pumps! That made fueling a breeze!
Bottom line, I would HIGHLY reccommend River Dunes Marina to anyone even remotely near the area. I can't wait to come back and spend some time at this beautiful marina!

Stunningly fine place, service and amenities, 2016-07-20
Captain: , Charleston, s.c. (110)

M/V MUSIC, Charleston, SC

We came here because of the positive reviews. We were not disappointed, found them to be accurate. Arriving on a Thursday late afternoon, we were told the Harbor Club was not open for dinner. Staff opened the Provision store for us, where we found a small but excellent choice of wines, and a small but gourmet choice of meals for onboard preparation. Friday night we had drinks at the attractive bar at the Club, and a wonderful dining experience. This is a "Ritz Carlton"- like Marina.

top of the line , 2016-07-15
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, Fl (320)

Holy Mackerel this place is stunning! Every nice thing previous people have said is accurate. I do want to thank Scott for making our 2 day stay most enjoyable.

Need more stars Active Captain!, 2016-07-01
Captain: , Little River SC (586)

There are not enough stars in the Active Captain rating system for this marina. THis is a ten on a 5 star rating system. This marina is a destination and just a place to stay for a nite. Floating docks are pristine and made with teak. Fuel, pumpout, swimming pool, hottubs, workout room, cabana/bar, restaurant, kayaks, bicycles, store, clubshouse, pool table, best wifi around, and the shower facility is second to none!

Elegant, Remote, Civic Minded, 2016-06-16
Captain: , Little Creek VA (605)

As expected, River Dunes has it all: beautiful setting, excellent staff, nice facilities. It is far from any town, and has a limited supply of stores in its one shop, so bring what you need. But most impressive: dockage was free to those participatating/donating to the Hope Clinic Regatta in June. THe regatta gave the best trophys to boats donating the most money...but River Dunes far out did all of them!

A Favorite! (Update 5/16), 2016-05-19
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (1089)

Update 5/16

This is our 5th time stopping at River Dunes, and has now become one of our favorites. The setting is beautiful, secure and well protecetd. The floating docks are in excellent condition and the club house and facilities are some of the nicest you will find. Dining at the onsight "Harbor Club" was very good and certianly convienent. Suggest you check to see if they are open when you book your dockage reservation, otherwise, nothing else is close by. The people here are among the nicest, most helpful and thoughful anywhere on the east coast. We will back... again!

Comments- 4/13

This is a first class marina with excellent floating docks in a very well protected basin. The bath facilites are among the best I've ever seen. Not much else around the area but River Dunes is very good one night stop or place to hole-up in bad weather.

But be sure and check the on-site restaurant schedule if you expect to eat there. It is normally open on Friday and Saturday nights, but that's it. It has good food and a decent wine list. Your only other alternative is a long drive (taxi) into Oriental or eating on board.

Super protected, 2016-05-14
Captain: , Colchester VT (380)

We stopped here because of some anticipated really ugly thunder storms and are so glad we did because we would normally not stop to pay $1.90 per foot. But to see this place was worth it. All the reivews written are really accurate (except one) - this place is the best!! First, the protection can't be beat - they dug their own harbor with protection from 360 degrees. The docks are new; the facilities are 1st class. Loaner car (for 2 hrs) is great to be able to tour the property as well as to go in to Oriental. Oriental is sort of sad - looks like the town is slowly shutting down. Hope it is on the upswing but not sure. The one grocery store they had has shut down! There is one store - Provisions - that has some groceries - is a pretty good marine hardware store. Unfortunately, Oriental is not the "sailing capital of NC". Maybe it once was but not now. So River Dunes sits like a jewel in the area. They have put a lot of money into this place. Hope it works. Just goreous! Marina staff - top notch.

What a nice surprise!, 2016-05-14
Captain: , Raleigh, NC (10)

Nicely protected, clean, and friendly. The onsite restraurant serves up top notch dinners. Dress nicely as it is well appoiinted and other patrons dress nicely as well. We will be back!

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

This place is just too good to be true. It is actually a private facility accepting transients. The clubhouse is very upscale and beautiful. The bathrooms and showers are immaculate. They look brand new, are tiled, and very upscale. The washers/dryers are top shelf. The floating docks are finished mahogony, and the handrails on the alum. ramps look like the rails of a new Grand Banks. There was a huge library, a loaner car, and all this for only $1.00 per foot. My wife describes it as georgeous!
The price has gone up since I wrote this in 2012, but the place is still first class in every way in 2016.

Grace Harbor @ River Dunes, 2016-05-06
Captain: , Sandwich (722)

Our 4th visit. At the entrance of Neuse River. Protected sheltered marina. Lovely surroundings. Friendly helpful staff. Access to pool, courtesy car. Bathrooms cleaned! What's taking so long to reopen laundry room. Dryers didn't work on our stop heading south. WiFi inconsistent.

Fantastic stop, 2016-05-05
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay (62)

Stopped here after several offshore jumps from the Bahamas. Intended to stay two days, ended up at four. A great place to rest. The docks and dock staff are outstanding, making tying up a breeze. They handled about 5 boats in a half hour as we were arriving without missing a beat. The onshore facilities are excellent. The club house has great lounging areas, and serves dinner every night, either from a menu or a fixed meal for very reasonable prices. Loaner car, nice walks. Everything you need, although no shopping in walking distance.

Not what it should be, 2016-04-21
Captain: , Rowayton, CT (199)

Someone has spent a ton of money on this country club style resort - much of the infrastructure has been built but there are a large number of lots sold but not yet built upon. Consequently the 'traffic' they need is not there, especially as this is so far removed from anything else in the area. Front office and restaurant wait staff are in dire need of some basic training. Overall, a 'coulda, woulda, shoulda' kind of place I would not return to.

5 Stars accross the Decks, 2016-04-17
Captain: , Barron, Wi (90)

Excellent staff, facillities and infrasstructure, restaurant, confortable and relaxing environment, protected yacht basin. Wish I could stay longer.

Five stars as usual, 2016-03-23
Captain: , New Bern, NC (140)

We stayed here last night and as usual, it was beatiful, quiet, and friendly...Plus they lowered the price of fuel just before we topped off...$2.00 per gallon - taxes included...We stay every chance we can, and living in New Bern, it's often...

Great Stop, 2015-11-10
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (602)

Nothing bad to say about River Dunes. It is a great stop. Everything you need and everything you want except cable TV on the docks. You will get your exercise walking to the restrooms as they are quite a way from transient slips. Five stars!

Not as nice as we had hoped, 2015-11-08
Captain: , Oriental, NC (190)

Since North Carolina is home, we wanted to spend a month (9/29/15 thru 10/19/15) after leaving Solomons, MD on our way south. Docks and grounds are in excellent shape. Laundry and exercise facilities are showing a little wear and tear. We were there at least a week before the bathrooms were cleaned which was rather surprising and very disappointing. Women's steam shower was broken. Men's worked intermittently. The daily rate is reasonable but the new monthly club fee of $165 makes another monthly stay less likely especially since the marina is so far from town.

Second to none!, 2015-11-07
Captain: , Springfield, VA (130)

From the time you enter the channel you recognize that this so much more than a marina. This is the top of the line. Everything is perfection. The floating docks are new and the grounds are absolutely lovely. The Club House is grand and beautiful decorated with American antiques warm, comfortable and inviting. During the cruisers travel season, spring and fall, the marina serves a hearty dinner at a reasonable price. The marina provides a loaner car.

Stop by their booth at the various boat shows where they exhibit and they will provide a second night free coupon.

True Southern Hospitality, 2015-10-30
Captain: , Michigan City, IN, USA (290)

River Dunes Marina is truly five star - the dock hand greeted us at the dock and tied our docklines and plugged in shorepower. The entire area is exceedingly clean and well groomed southern plantation style development. Fast internet - able to make clear voip calls, stable floating docks. There seems to be no cell phone service in this part of NC, however the marina office has a booster - I had full cell service standing near the office. More classy amenities here than we were able to enjoy. We plan to come back and stay for at least one week. My words do not do this place justice - it's that good.

Very nice marina, 2015-10-29
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (3189)

Stayed again two days Oct 27,2 8 2015. This time we were able to sign up for the cruiser dinner. Great food reasonable price :) good service. Excellent facilities used bike, laundry, and air pump on our bike. Swiming pool wonderful. Staff friendly. Good weather protection. from the winds. Will return again we are spoiled. We stayed here on April 7 2015. We were a group of three boats traveling together and were all well taken care of by the staff. The facilities are excellant and very clean. Nice floating docks and a wonderful setting make it a 5 star stop. We used the provided car to all go to a restaurant in Oriential. The on site restaurant was not open that day. The other two boats had been here before and I was lucky to be introduced to the marina by them. I will definately return on the way down south again next year.

Classy Stop Over, 2015-10-18
Captain: , Racine, WI (525)

Great accomadations! Dock hands right on the spot to catch lines and connect power as well as provide answers to quesions on where to eat (limited), but provided a minue and the food was delivered to the boat. Excellent protection from bad weather.

Second trip here, 2015-10-16
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

We arranged our schedule to have an extended stay here because of the country club atomosphere. Rich and the staff is very professional.

Awesome Management = Awesome Marina, 2015-08-13
Captain: , Kemah (20)

River Dunes is one of the very best marina's on the east coast. Besides it's super location & beautiful setting, Its management is second to none. The facility is well constructed & maintained. The Amenities are plentiful and convenient. Courtesy car an added plus. Great location, great management, great docks & amenities says it all.

Big Respect for Small Boat, 2015-07-29
Captain: , Oriental, NC (71)

Wonderful harbor and 1st Class marina.
Docks are modern, easy and the staff is so courteous.

We have a small boat, yet they treated us as cordially as if we were another of the half-million dollar yachts in the marina.

If you have a few days, the rental cottages are charming and superbly comfortable for regaining your land-legs.

First Class, 2015-07-06
Captain: , Naples, FL (682)

This marina is an oasis among the dunes with all modern amenities. Easy to access with good water depth in the channel to a protected marina. Modern floating docks in excellent condition with full length finger piers make for easy docking and easy access once alongside.
The bathrooms and laundry are clean and functional. Small fitness center makes do for a limited work-out. Courtesy car is a must as nearest supermarket is WAlmart some 10 miles away.
Clubhouse is outstanding with a very good restaurant, albeit only open on weekends.
Staff are exceptional in all respects - competent, polite and willing to go the extra yard to help. Couldn't ask for more - but wait, there is more - stay for three nights and get one free.

No nicer anywhere!, 2015-06-29
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (118)

Starting with Riche the harbormaster, everything about this place is first class! The pool, restaurant, the fitness facilities, the docks - it's all great! The restaurant isn't open every night but was the first night we were there and the food and service were outstanding. We'll be back in the fall for sure! I wish more marinas offered fitness facilities.

Great Marina, 2015-06-18
Captain: , Chattanooga TN (400)

Still a great marina. Only objection is the restaurant is no
longer open during the week, only open Thursday- Sun. Enjoyed great pizza and pasta Silos.

Check Out the Annual Hope Regatta, 2015-06-08
Captain: , Lake Erie (149)

This is still a favorite stop for all it has to offer, however this year raised it one more notch. They host the Annual Hope Regatta ( which is a charity event for a local group providing medical care for the indigent and low income uninsured. River Dunes will give you 3 nights stay including electric. The event will give you 2 continental breakfasts and 2 dinners along with local music each night. The bundle ends up being less that what you'd pay for 3 nights without meals! And you don't have to race if you don't want to. It's all for charity. If that's not enough, you get to meet a bunch of fantastic local folks that make you feel like one of the family. Consider stopping in for this event when you are north bound in the late spring.

Oasis off the beaten path., 2015-06-03
Captain: , Sunbury, Ga (352)

First class marina with floating docks, swimming pool, clean showers and loaner car to get provisions in Oriental. Very protected from currents. Dock master, Rich is top notch. All of the marina staff are extremely friendly and professional. The restaurant food was good but a little pricey. Will stay here again.

Best of the best!, 2015-05-31
Captain: , Petoskey MI (327)

Surpasses all marinas in every aspect. Only drawback is its isolation to town but loaner car available.

Especially appreciated the spacious slips and fairways.

Kick back and enjoy, 2015-05-25
Captain: , Oakville, Ontario (30)

Stayed here on our first night of the trip home from Wrightsville beach to Canada. The marina is amazing, fuel dock, staff, facilities and restaraunt are all excellent. Be Carefull coming into the river and follow the channel markers and you will be fine.

The best of the best..., 2015-05-15
Captain: , MV Red Head (61833)

Still the best. We've been here many times and always love it. This year they've managed to find a way to be even better. They are now doing boater dinners every night during the transient season. The restaurant is being opened Monday-Thursday serving the lunch menu from 6-7:30. We had a great meal for a reasonable price. Already looking forward to returning!

May 2014: We spent another couple of nights here at River Dunes. It remains a top place. It's all been said by others.

With about 15 transients, they made a dinner one night at the club. It was definitely the high point - excellent food and a chance to meet many others.

We used the courtesy car one afternoon to go into Oriental and find, to our delight, a new Walmart Express. It's a grocery store, pharmacy, and basic goods store. We were able to grab lunch downtown and provision for the next week.

It's hard to believe River Dunes is even better now!

Previous review:
This was our second time here. It's better each time because now we know everything available. The facilities are exceptional. We grabbed the courtesy car to do grocery shopping. Went to M and M's in Oriental for dinner.

It's very protected and an incredible place to get out of the weather.

We just love it here. If you're even considering coming through this area, you just have to stop here. You'll keep coming back too. It's places like this that make cruising so fun.

Our previous review:
We were totally blown away by the facilities, quality, friendliness, and helpfulness of this marina, staff, and community. Now I know that we're often treated pretty well by marinas but I also knew that this place was very highly rated. So I went into the database and put together some statistics about River Dunes.

Taking every marina in the world that we track (some 30,000 markers), if we look at marinas with 20 or more reviews, River Dunes is the 3rd highest rated marina. If you extend that to marinas with 30 or more reviews, River Dunes is the highest rated marina in the world. That's more than just high ratings. That's consistency and high ratings.

I don't know what I can possibly add to that. My review holds no more weight than anyone else's. My findings are completely consistent. This is a fantastic place.

We used a courtesy car to go into Oriental - ate at M and M's. Took the car the next morning to do grocery shopping. Had a wonderful family-style dinner at the clubhouse. Had an outstanding dinner with a cruising group of 6 Krogen boats at the club. Heck, even the bad weather was a little safer here.

I was a bit concerned about depth on entering because it wasn't charted. JC told me there was a good 8'. Usually that means there might be 5'. In this case, there was 10'. Everything about River Dunes is like that - they over-deliver on everything they promise.

very good spot especially in nice weather, 2015-04-29
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Very well protected marina excellent floating docks. Loaner bikes and kayak's available. Excellent walking or biking in the River Dunes Community. Had dinner at the Clubhouse was very good and recommended . Fuel available at a good price, good Pumpout at fuel dock. Friendly competent staff. Clubhouse has a small bar at night, not sure when it is open. No nearby shopping or anything else. No sure if they offer a loaner car. Beautiful pool right beside the Marina, good bathrooms and laundry with 2 washers and dryers , $1/machine. No problem with depth.

One of our favorite stops, 2015-04-19
Captain: , Cambridge, MD (170)

River Dunes always impresses with their excellent facility and staff. This is not just an overnight stop. You should plan to stay several days to take advantage of all they have to offer. It is nice seeing so much construction taking place around the marina.

fun for the kids, 2015-04-01
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

idealic place to hang to wait out weather and just chill. Courtesy car available for provisioning at Food Lion Bayboro or in Oriental at Town and Country. Oriental also has West Marine (express) and a hardware store with marine supplies. The dock staff is professional and the restaurant, if open, serves delicious food for a fair price. The hopt tub is great to warm and sooth.

The staff is exceptional and the kids (4 yer old twins) loved the pool and boaters dinners.

We had bikes and explored the rea and rode into Oroiental, 10 miles one way, to have lunch and make calls. The cell service (ATT&T) is spotty but free wi fi works well on the boat at B dock.

Our favorite marina along the east coast, 2014-11-23
Captain: , Camden ME (465)

We don't spend much time in marinas, however we make it a point to visit River Dunes when we are in the area and you should too!

This marina is first class, from the showers to the staff. Excellent protection, floating docks, pool, club house, bikes, kayaks and car for guests to use. We plan on leaving our boat here for a month this fall when we head south.

Clean modern facility, 2014-11-21
Captain: , Rock Hall (60)

This marina cannot be faulted and deserves its high rating.

A little disappointed , 2014-11-17
Captain: , Kingston, NY (190)

Great reviews, but not the expeience. As we came down the channel, the area was beautiful. We passed a sign that had a 3mph sign posted, so we slowed a bit more and took in our surroundings. Then over the radio came a voice "could you expedite!" Who would demand that you speed up when you are in an unfamilar marina? Well it was no other then a dock hand that was working. This same dock hand would later inform me that I should change the name up my boat in a very hostile tone. The marina hosts dinners for the boaters, which makes it convienant since town is not within walking distance. However, our first night they ran out of food and needed to prepare another selection. I was excited to hear about the steam showers and looked forward to it. However, they were not working during our week stay. The area and marina are beautiful, but the offenisve interaction with the member of their staff made the stay less enjoyable. If it were not for the weather we would have cut our stay short.

Great stop, 2014-11-05

Stayed one night....very customer service oriented and treats transient boaters with utmost service. Facilities are exceptional. Well worth the stay

Beautiful Resort, 2014-11-03
Captain: , Clayton, NY (655)

I think you can tell just by the numbers of reviews that a lot of cruisers visit this place. It was very protected during 50 knt winds and provided lots of amenities to keep us occupied: hot tub, beautiful showers, laundry, bikes, golf carts, courtesy car which we took to Oriental. This was a top notch marina.

Always top notch!, 2014-10-28
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (486)

We were lucky enough to win a couple of free nights here at a recent MTOA Rendezvous. We thank them for their support of MTOA, and for the pleasure of staying in this beautiful facility. We'll be back!

Well worth the stay and only miinutes from Oriental, 2014-10-20
Captain: , Essex (140)

It is a fantastic marina. Well designed as a hurricane sanctuary with terrific floating docks. The dock staff could not be more accomodating both handling the lines and ensuring your are well secure, to advising as to what to do in the area. The River Dunes development is very well maintained, though obviously hit hard by the financial recession, however this has had very little impact on the top notch service one receives. The River Dune has a great pool, terrific shower facilities and a restaurant/bar. They also provide a free 2 hr C Car to get into town which is about 15 minutes away by car.

Oriental is a quaint little town though it does not offer very much beyond a Walmart Express and an few interesting shops.

Dock prices were $1.50 per foot.
Fuel price for deisel was $4.05/gal. which was somewhat high. We refuel in Morehead City Yacht Basin, 30 miles downstream for $3.35/gal instead.

Will definitely return as it is a great layover.

great stop on ICW, 2014-10-16
Captain: , Carolina Beach, NC (391)

Stopped at River Dunes (again). Stayed 2 nights as front went thru. Good docks, great protection, great staff, courtesy car, and great bathroom/shower facilities. And reasonable rates. Just about says it all. Thats why we keep stopping there.

Very Easy, nice!, 2014-10-09
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (502)

Easy entry to its well protected harbor.
Met by nice folks at dock. Upscale, remote. 10 miles from Oriental. Only negative was that the rental van was not clean.

Our Second Stay, 2014-09-19
Captain: , Sarasota (110)

A little about the ambience of the place:
We arrived in a downpour but we're greater by an able dock hand. River Dunes is a luxury community and Grace Harbor fits into that category as well. The marina facility is beautifully designed and very well constructed. The place is remote, but that is part of the charm for residents who buy the million dollar homes. Be sure to take advantage of the free loaner bikes for a ride around the neighborhood. Last time here, we saw deer roaming in the wooded areas. As others have mentioned, the pool and hot tubs (yes, 2 set at different temperatures), the cabanas and the poolside bar are very attractive. Our only disappointment was that the gas fireplaces adjacent to the cabanas were not operating. However, the fireplace does work on the second floor porch at the north end of the clubhouse at the entrance to the restaurant. Perfect place for a cool fall evening. All the staff are friendly and knowledgable. They introduce themselves, engage in casual conversation and take an interest in their guests. The whole place has a feel of casual elegance.

Luxary at a Reasonable Price, 2014-09-08
Captain: , St Pete Beach, Florida (278)

Like a luxury resort, River Dunes has it all. Rich and the staff are wonderful, complimentary bicycles to use on site and courtesy car to get groceries in Oriental.

In Oriental we liked the Bean for breakfast/coffee/ice cream, and Water Street Grill. A wonderful local artist's cooperative next to the Bean is worth a visit and chat. The small Saturday farmer's market (8-11 am) has baked goods (try the biscotti), organic meats (the lamb sausage is divine), herbs, crafts, etc. The fish market is open Thursday-Saturday.

When we visited, River Dune's restaurant was open Friday-Sunday, and lunch was available at pool side.

WOW. Beautiful place, 2014-09-08
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

If you want first class facilities, then this is the place. Do not let the entrance to Broad Creek scare you away, it is an easy entrance.

great facilities, 2014-08-31
Captain: , Oriental,NC (588)

Extremely protected marina, floating docks, great friendly staff, awesome pool with hot tubs, gym, etc. The restaurant had one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The only drawback is there is NOTHING close to the marina in terms of a town. But other than that, the marina is top notch.

What more can be said, 2014-08-03
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (60)

I arrived here due to Hurricane Arthur messing up my plans. Rich and the staff are first rate and the marina is top notch. I ended up leaving my boat here for a month. I would highly recommend this marina for anyone looking to keep their boat any length of time, very safe and a good hurricane hold to boot. I'll be back.

Great spot to be stranded, 2014-08-02
Captain: , Ottawa (313)

Waiting for parts in this first class facility. Other reviews cover it but the staff are great. The dining room food was very good. (Fri and Sat)
Imagine laundry $1 wash /$1 dry. Pool was refreshing and even snagged a free beer at the pool bar. The courtesy car is great to go into Oriental to stock up on food and marine supplies.

Great facility, 2014-07-18
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Arrived late 4-29-13, left early 4-30-13. Been here before, facility is outstanding, no need to repeat other comments. Not much around is reason for no 5th star, if it was based on facility only would be 6 star. Will stop again, easy in &out. Provided credit card on phone don't know if there were any other people around. Good 100 amp power and 8-10 feet of water everywhere at low tide.

10-12-13 Stayed again, same report. Seems to be more activity, more boats and dining room was open. $1.50 per foot plus $20 for a 100 amp plug.

Perfect hurricane hole, 2014-07-04
Captain: , Punta Gorda (151)

Just spent the night of Hurricane Arthur here, no surge to speak of, perfect wind protection, and almost no chop. Facilities are great, friendly people and a cfree ourtesy car with AC. What more can one want. There is now a small West Marine outlet nearby as well as two small grocery stores with quite a good selection for provisioning.

Very nice marina, 2014-05-30
Captain: , annapolis (453)

This is my third visit. I continue to stop becasue of the exceptional quality of the staff and facility. Both Rich and Tom caught my lines and greeted me at the dock. All of the services are working and at $1.50/ft., River Dunes offers the best value on the ICW.

The restaurant prepares excellent dishes and the second floor offers pleasant views of the harbor. Enjoy.

Great marina, 2014-05-18
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1007)

This is a great marina. I only wish that they would dredge the entrance a bit.
They have the most amazing showers I have seen. Bike rental, curtesy car for two hours. Great restaurant opened Friday and Saturday. They have boaters dinners in Monday and Wednesday.
My only complaint is the internet. We were here for two days (5-15 through the 16) and we had to walk up to the main building to send or relieve emails. And there is NO AT&T phone service. That's why I give if a 4 star.

Great Marina!, 2014-05-07
Captain: , Palm Beach, FL (31)

Beautiful location with steam showers, laundry facilities, exercise room, swimming pool, jacuzzi, and a good "boaters dinner" available in the main building. Just follow their directions on the way in. They monitor VHF 16 and 72. When we arrived we were advised to swing wide on the 3rd bouy coming in the Broad Creek entrance. It gets shallow right by the bouy. Our charts were accurate.

Nice Place, 2014-04-13
Captain: , New London, PA (302)

Spent the night here on a trip north this spring. Very nice and helpful staff, clean facilities. We're able to use a courtesy car to go to Oriental for dinner and supplies. They don't serve dinner during the week.

Would stop again.

Gorgeous Place, 2014-04-03
Captain: , Belleville, On. Canada (122)

We only stopped for fuel, which they were generous enough to hold open for us, as we didn't arrive until after 5:00. However this place was gorgeous, so I enquired about staying here for next trip. Very inexpensive at $8 per foot of dock (not boat) per month, but no liveaboard, so every 10 days you have to go away for a day. A pain, but worth it perhaps. The facilities are simply amazing, and a must see.

Great place to stop, 2014-02-26
Captain: , Edmonton (279)

Excellent alternative to Oriental proper. Entrance wasn't on chartplotter, but well-marked - don't hug the marks; it can be fairly shallow. Like-new ipe floating docks. Excercise room, fantastic lounge and awesome showers, but they're a bit of a walk from the dock. Friendly and helpful staff. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that there is no marine store or grocery nearby. There is a courtesy car available to get into Oriental, but there's not a lot there, either.

Great Place, 2014-02-07
Captain: , Charleston, SC (90)

Recently purchased a new-to-us boat in New Bern and needed a place to keep it before taking it back to Charleston, SC. The previous owner recommended River Dunes and it was a great choice. The service and hospitality here is fantastic and it is a wonderfully quiet place to spend a bit of time. The facilities are fantastic and the restaurant, although only open on weekends, is great. Oriental is only a short ride from here and a courtesy vehicle is available.

Unfortunately I have only a few days to stay here but I definitely plan on returning. If you want a quiet, classy place to stay...I highly recommend River Dunes. Also - if needed - it is a perfect hurricane hole.

Southern Hospitality at its Best, 2014-01-04
Captain: , Stuart FL (835)

JC the dock master exhudes hospitality. He offered to reserve us a place in the restaurant as we registered! Courtesy vans were available when we needed. We were a pint short of transmission oil, he had some on site.
If you like to go for a good long walk or bike ride. Be sure to stop at River Dunes. There are miles of trails/quiet roads and courtesy bikes all in a beautifully landscaped setting!
Their price and setting is better than downtown Oriental and they have a van for your use. You can't beat the service and the restaurant, although pricey, is very good.

Captain: , Chocowinity Bay, NC (180)

There is not much that I can add to the prior comments other than to say that this is one of our favorite destinations. It is only about 50 miles from our home port so it makes for a great short hop. Beautiful docks in this man made little harbor, great service, fuel, exceptional bath facilities, and a pretty good restaurant that is generally only open on weekends. However, it is quiet -- no tiki bar here.

Protected and well maintained, 2013-11-16
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (40)

Two night stay. Well maintained and beautiful club house. Pool, hot tub and showers were a plus. Only concern was that Docking hands could be more help to take and secure lines or provide a bit of guidance. Restaurant on premises but no other close services.

A five star marina and resort., 2013-11-16
Captain: , Hayes va (163)

This is more than a marina it's a beautiful resort. Rich and the crew are professional and very helpful.
Having cruised from Corpus Christi Tx. to St. Michael's Md. I've only found one other marina that could compare to River Dunes.
The restaurant is only open on weekends however it is outstanding.

Can't wait to go back, 2013-11-09
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (1190)

Just a great experience start to finish. Deep water entrance and harbor coupled with full finger floating docks is just the start. Easy to fuel up and pump out. Fantastic marina office/club house. And absolutely the best shower I've ever been in. Add to that the cruiser dinners at very reasonably prices and you have simply a great experience. Yes it's too far to walk to Oriental but frankly there's not much there to see. Use the free loaner car to pick up groceries or visit West Marine. Rich and staff bent over backwards to endure we enjoyed ourselves. A return visit is definitely in order.

Quiet Marina with Good Service. , 2013-10-31
Captain: , Cape Porpoise, Maine (250)

We decided to try this marina based on its good reviews. Rick and his assistant-in-training gave us clear approach instructions, refueled us and had us in our slip in very short order. The facilities are very nice, but the on-site restaurant was closed. We did however share the courtesy car with other boaters (luckily, it was available) and drove into town for a good dinner.

great but long walk to shower, 2013-10-14
Captain: , Wake Forest (31)

Not much more to add but the walk from transient dock locations to the bath facilities is very far. Cruisers with a bit more seasoning may find it hard to walk that far fo a shower. There should be something a bit closer to the transient docks way out there.

An absolute 10!!!, 2013-10-11
Captain: , Georgetown, South Carolina (91)

This is by far the nicest marina we have ever stayed at. The facilities are not only gorgeous, but absolutely first class. Rich and his staff have really raised the bar when it comes to service.

Best Marina on East Coast, 2013-09-27
Captain: , Cleveland, OHio (421)

We are taking a moment to update a previous review of a great place to visit, River Dunes. This is our fourth time here and it gets beter and better. We needed some repair work, and Rich, the marina manger hooked us up with Plank Marine Services. They fixed a broken lazarett, aft head vent problem, fuel filter issues at a rate of $25/hour. If you need help Plank is the place to call 252-649-4749. Plus the laundry is only $1/load versus up in Maine where we saw $4/load.

old review notes

Check out the steam showers. JC, VP of Harbor Operations, is a fabulous host. They serve family style dinners Sunday-Thursday, and the dinner room is open Fri and Sat. While we were there, JC was having a Fall Special, pay for one night, get one night free.
Rate was $1.25/foot. High speed gas and diesel is available.

There are 3 loaner cars for guests. Town of Oriental is 10 minute drive. Check out the fish shanty, open on Friday and Sat down at the docks. Also look for the $6/pound shrimp sold out of a house two blocks off the main street.

West Marine is also in town.

Holiday at River Dunes, 2013-09-16
Captain: , Buffalo, New York (1809)

... We felt like we were on vacation.... The harbor is protected, easy to enter; the River Dunes team members were engaged, helpful, and pleasant; and the amenities are a special treat. Everything just works and is meticulously clean. We appreciate the peacefulness, as well as the option for access to Oriental for necessities. Thank you, River Dunes!

First class marina!, 2013-08-23
Captain: , Charlotte (50)

Can't add anything to the reviews - first class facility and service at a competitive price. The dock master stayed late for us (he didn't tell us) without acting like it was an inconvenience. Since we live in NC we will be back by land or by sea. Appears to be a great place for a corporate retreat or family reunion as well.

In a Class of its Own, 2013-08-22
Captain: , Rochester, NY (493)

We've been on a leisurely transit from Rochester, NY to warm waters and have experienced ups and downs along the way.

River Dunes is frankly in a class of its own. You notice this when you first turn into its spacious inlet, guarded by stately ante-bellum style mansions. The brick-stone wall leads into an idyllic sheltered harbor lined with more such arcitecture.

We were greeted by dockmaster Rick who was generous with his hospitality as he helped us gas up and dock. Rick was a wealth of help all during out month-long stay, checking on our wee yacht when we were out of town and lending us his personal vehicle when the courtesy car was in the shop for a brake job.

J.C., the owner/manager was gracious and helpful as well, with patient answers for our many questions.

A member of the Dollar-a-Foot Club puts this wonderful stop on a special list, but the ambience and the hospitality just put it over the top.

If you have a chance, take a quick trip into the town of Oriental, - Sailing Capitol of North Carolina. It has a great little West Marine Express on the near-edge of town. This is an optical illusion of the first order - from the outside it appearrs to be the size of a small gas station, but when you step through the door, it's suddenly the size of the terminal at JFK Airport.

Across the street from the West Marine is a very folksy restaurant / specialty-food place called appropriately,The Silos.

A bit further down from West Marine is a very well-stocked traditional hardware store - very well-stocked!

Two gasoline stations follow the hardware store, selling gasoliine at about a ten-cent difference. (We always put gasoline in our courtesy cars, don't you?!)

If you've got the time, be sure to take a turn through colorful downtown Oriental - and don't miss the chandlery there (named ???)

The only negative with River Dunes had to do with our need to get back home for a short while ... there just is NOT an easy way to get a rental-car.

A shuttle exists out of New Bern Airport, but this is expensive: $76 the first time, and $96 on the return, even after having been quoted $76.
When we mentioned this to Rick we found that there are two Enterprise agencies, and the one that isn't at the airport will come and get you (the airport agency will not!)

Lesson: ask Rick or JC!

Final word?
JC and Rick at River Dunes have created a one-of-a-kind port-of-call along the ICW. If you're anywhere near here, you've got to stop in just to check out what we hope is the future of more of the ICW.

River Dunes Marina, 2013-07-29
Captain: , Oriental, NC (220)

The physical facility is superb in every aspect. The marina is well sheltered from most storms. The entrance, up Broad Creek, takes some thinking and a close eye on your chartplotters depth contours. Very thin water when turning in from "R4," under 6-ft.

River dunes, 2013-07-07
Captain: , Durham NH (22)

This was the most professional, friendly, protected, and well-appointed marina that we encountered on the ICW. It is really a place not to miss. First Class with extra points.

Top Drawer Marina, 2013-06-23
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (282)

This marina has moved the high water mark for marinas. Facility is very clean and offers everything a cruiser boater needs. A great location to get out of a hard blow and do some R&R. If you are a biker, runner, or walker this is a good safe place to get some exercise. We can only hope they keep their boater friendly attitude as this development grows. They do not offer MTOA discounts as advertised. Only Boat/US for fuel.

I love River Dunes, 2013-05-25
Captain: , San Diego (60)

The facilities are excellent, and the surroundings are even better. This is a very protected harbor in a quiet and serene setting. The clubhouse has beautiful facilities, including a handsome game room/library. River Dunes Marina is part of an upscale housing development, but many of the homes have yet to be built. For the cruiser, this means there are quite streets to walk with lush natural vegetation and water views all around. For us, this is a longer stay than an over-night.

Awesome place to stay..., 2013-05-24

We have passed this area a few times and never stopped at River Dunes before. It was everything other reviewers have said. We thought not being in town would be an issue, but the courtesy car is available and it is a short drive to Oriental. The staff are all great - Rich the Dock Master is a boater and really went out of his way to make everything work for us. The inpromptu dinner (arranged by Rich) for stranded boaters on Sunday was very welcome. The entrance was well marked and the marina is very sheltered. The facilities are also fantastic and spotless. We will stay again.

This marina is so much nicer than many I have been to that charge so much more. At a $1.50 ft. it is very reasonable. The facilities are like a 5 star resort, plus you have great protection from bad weather. We stayed several days just to enjoy the relaxing and quiet atmoshere.

ONE OF THE BEST, 2013-04-29
Captain: , Hampton, VA (581)

We stayed here for 3 days last fall to wait out some weather and loved the place. Although it is a bit out of the way for shopping in Oriental, the ability to borrow a car for a quick trip to the store makes up for its' remotness. Great facility with hot tubs, clean showers and a clubhouse that makes you feel right at home! Disappointed the price went up this spring, but I suspect that will not deter both transients and long-term renters from coming. River Dunes is one of those places on the ICW everyone we know really looks forward to staying at!

Very Helpful, 2013-04-23
Captain: , Galena, MD (80)

I am keeping the boat there for a month. Before I got there J.C. the dockmaster called me on the cell to make sure I knew the way in. There is floating maker off station in the creek.
We were stuck there for 3 days because of weather and the new Dockmaster Rich scheduled a dinner at the clubhouse for 20 of us. It was great and really nice since the loaner car was out for repair.

Stopped again on our way north, 2013-04-21
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

We knew a couple of days of heavy wind was coming so we made a beline to River Dunes. We knew from our stay last fall that is is a great place to stop, relax and enjoy. The hurricane hole is as safe as it gets, and the staff and grounds are wonderful.

We came here in Nov 2012 to be at Jeff and Karen's presentation about Medical Emergencies on the Water. (Excellent! thanks) And we are glad we did. The facility is a resort with a wonderful space for gathering and getting to meet other boaters. The hurrican hole has a lovely walking path around the basin, fine homes with beautiful landscaping. We used the courtesy car, and laundry. Since there was bad weather they put out 2 buffet suppers for the cruisers. Good food and good company.

Highly recommend it! Not expensive.

Best Kept Secret in North Carolina, 2013-04-19
Captain: , Houston TX (349)

Updated April 15, 2013 - Stopped here again on our way north. We were concerned that with J.C.'s deparature it would not be the same, but we did not need to worry. The new marina manager, Rich, and the other new employee, Rick, were wonderful. They were right there to help us tie up, pump out and put on fuel. The office and restaurant staff have remained the same and were also great. The facilities are as wonderful as ever, including the loaner car to get to town for shopping. We will continue stop here every chance we get.

We left our boat at River Dunes for the majority of hurricane season this year and could not be more pleased with our experience. The docks and facilities are top notch and fully maintained. The restaurant, while a bit pricy, is wonderful place to eat. The dockmaster, JC, and his crew are great to work with. We will be stopping at River Dunes every time we pass by in the future.

First Class, 2013-04-19
Captain: , St. Thomas, USVI (624)

This is a first class marina with a staff to match. It is located within a development of homes that is just getting going. The grounds and offices/clubhouse are casual but high end and furnished like a home or high end lodge. The marina itself is several miles out of Oriental, NC but it is very protected and would be an excellent place to ride out a hurricane. Most of the slips are owned or rented by property owners with just a few designated for transient, but we did not feel out of place. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and the surrounding area is beautiful.

I resigned my position as Director of Operations for River Dunes Harbor Club and Marina effective Dec 1,2012.Working for the past 7
years at RD,first in construction and then operations has been a challenging and rewarding time for me.I believe we succeded in putting togather a first class operation and I wish the River Dunes team a great future.
This was not an easy decision for me ,but I have gone back on the water, running a 75 Flemming M/Y for a private individual.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the captains and boat owners who visited River Dunes the first 5 years and encouraged us with their ideas and reviews here on Active Captain.I hope you will continue to visit this one of a kind destination in your travels.
As for me,I'm on board M/Y "Gratitude",sitting at Emerald Bay on Great Exuma, soft winds rustling the palms. If you see us in your travels ,stop by and say hello.

All the best,

Pumpout and fuel always working ! Great facilities for overnight or shelter during storm. Great laundry and bath facilities and helpful friendly staff. This is where I'll stay from now on.

Outstanding, 2012-12-11
Captain: , St. John, VI (90)

Outstanding stay here! Wonderfully protected hurricane hole, lovely facilities-hot tubs, pool, steam shower & restaurant! Courtesy car into town & a fine grocery store with yummy steaks! We enjoyed kayaking the surrounding pristine waters & riding our bikes along the nearly deserted streets of this development.

Not Much This Time of Year, 2012-11-19
Captain: , Fort Pierce Florida (300)

Spent six days here while visiting friends in Oriental. Facility is beautiful and the docks are very nice excpet they are not well lit and difficult to use walk on at night. When we arrived the dockmaster was not very pleasant and we didn't see him the rest of the time we were there. The rest of the staff was very nice and helpful. Clubhouse was closed except for buffet dinners for the residents and was a little high-brow for our taste. Rest rooms facilities are great but were dirty most fo the time.

Steam Shower, 2012-11-18
Captain: , Solomons, MD (464)

11-18-2012, third trip. Showers still great. The restaurant was catering a commodores ball for a local sailing group so the chef just made a lasagna dinner for the locals. Great meal, great prices, hard to beat River Dunes.

Have stayed here twice, fall and spring and only during the week so have not had the opportunity to try the restaurant. This perfect rating is based solely on the shower. It's all about the steam shower, you have got to try it.

Nice place, but quiet off season, 2012-11-18
Captain: , Annapolis, Md (148)

We contacted JC & asked for a facedock as we were planning on a late arrival & early departure. He assured us there were plenty of facedocks. Upon our arrival, we were told "no face docks were available." We ended up at an inside slip which was OK & one of the dock staff helped catch our docklines when we came in. Weather turned from bad to worse & we ended up staying 3 nights. During that time there were only two boats on the several facedocks that existed! Needless to say, I was perplexed & a bit peeved. We were on C-Dock. At night time one needed a flashlight to maneuver from the dock to the ramp leading to shore. Tho the dock itself had some lightening there was nothing from the dock to the ramp. No doubt this place is lovely when the weather is favorable & warm. But off season, the restaurant isn't open. Tho one night they did pull together a $19/person meal for a few dozen of us. It was enjoyable gathering together in the good company of other cruisers. There is a courtesy car available. But you'd better get your name of the list fast for one of the 2-hour blocks! We did not have such luck. If you don't get lucky there isn't much to do, other than your own boat chores. Two washers & two dryers at a buck each was nice. And, the grounds are nice to walk around, especially if you have dogs. There are doggy waste disposal bags availabe at each dock! With this nice convenience, I wonder why some people still don't pick up after their pups! Diesel prices were about .30/gal higher than other marinas. Even with a .10/gal BoatUS discount. Better off getting fuel elsewhere. Would return if weather were yucky.

First Class Marina, 2012-11-10
Captain: , Mullica Hill, NJ (688)

The staff here bend over backwards to make you happy. The restaurant was closed for the season, but with foul weather coming in and a lot of cruisers coming in they had a caterer set up a buffet dinner for 2 nights. The floating docks are in excellent conidion. there are lots of dock carts, a pool table in the lounge and an excercise room with a computer and printer available. Only drawback (not the Marina's fault) is that there is almoist no cellphone signal.

Ideal for Offhore/ICW Transistion, 2012-11-06
Captain: , Vero Beach (527)

We stayed here behind the first wave of snowbirds and celebrated Thanksgiving tied alongside. We were close to having a private marina. JC is a pleasure to do business with and is clearly proud of the place. The steam showers are pure pleasure. The place is as shiny as a new penny. Docks are absolutely superb--wide, clean and stable. One has to compete with housekeeping staff for washers and dryers and the equipment tends to be small and slow. The mosquitos to quote the staff are "linebackers." Even with those two cons it's still a five star outfit. For boats coming in at Beaufort from the Bahamas or other points S&E this is well worth the short trek up the Adams Canal to take a few days to wash up, wash down, and sip a few. Cell phone coverage is not good here. AT&T customers report zero. Verizon requires walking around to find a "bar" or two.

Can't Say Enough...., 2012-11-03
Captain: , Annapolis MD (330)

about the quality of this facility and its staff. As one of the many (48) extra boats sheltering for Sandy, we were dwelcomed with open arms and no increase in normal rates. This lovely and picturesque facility was completely sheltered and the floating docks well-maintained.
Their first class restaurant normally serves only on weekends, but they went the extra mile to offer an affordable dinner special on Monday, Pizza on Tuesday, along with reasonably priced buffets for lunch and breakfast during the weekend. Courtesy car a plus and got a real workout. We will be back!

Great Place to Visit, 2012-11-01
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (20)

We stopped here becasue of all the recommendations in active captain. Was a great move. Had to leave the boat to do some business and while we were gone the hurricane hit. We called and were assured the boat would be looked after. It was. We had a minor problem but it was take care of immediately. We will return to this spot for sure.

Perfect Hurricane Hole, 2012-10-31
Captain: , New York (483)

We were planning to stop here after seeing thier booth at the Annapolis Boat Show and are glad we did. Arriving on Friday just before Hurricane Sandy, it was just about full but the staff made us feel like we were long time customers. Besides a great Hurricane Hole, the place is a 1st class experience. Due to the many boats, dinner was offered on Monday and Tuesday night. Normally the restaurant is only open on Fri-Sunday. ATT cell survice is very spotty and Oriental is a ten minute drive away, but those were the only draw backs. Free wifi and free curtesy car made up for that. A good stop for all those passing this way.

Wonderful place!, 2012-10-31
Captain: , Annapolis (264)

We were stuck here for hurricane Sandy and I couldn't think of a better place on the coast to hang out for a week. The facilities are very well-kept and the staff goes out of their way to be helpful. The meals served at the restuarant were excellent! This is one of our favorite stops on the waterway.

Above and beyond..., 2012-10-29
Captain: , Montreal (11)

Again, after all I've seen from Lake Champlain, NY, all the Northeast coast this summer till here, to compare this place to other marinas is unfair. In Quebec, we have great golf course, with nice resort and Clubhouse surrounding them, here... it's like being on the best green there is. This place is beats all my expectation. It is a beautiful resort with all amenities and services. Even if we haven't use them all cause of weather (being there waiting for Hurricane Sandy to pass by) Pool, hot tub, cabanas, kayaks, canoes and bikes are available. They even had a courtesy car that we used for 2 hours. The lounge offers a warm atmosphere and permitted us to watch the weather channels to follow Sandy played cards and chess. It was a great way to chat with the other cruisers. The showers and steam are amazing! Wi-fi service was OK. All the best to you....

This is the best kept secret on the East coast of North Carolina%u2026perhaps the East coast of the USA. Don%u2019t deny yourself a visit here. Top shelf marina facilities and a 5 star restaurant beautifully appointed. We were here on Oct. 26th and the cost was $1.00 per foot!! The marina is well protected with floating docks. Bathrooms are spotless with a steam room for him and her and workout equipment. Don%u2019t miss this one.

Amazing Marina, 2012-10-19
Captain: , Rock Hall, Md (230)

To compare this place to other marinas is unfair. This place is leagues above the others. It is a beautiful resort with all amenities. Pool, hot tub, cabanas, kayaks, canoes and bikes to explore the area. The restaurant is only open on the week-end but since many boats had arrived that day, the dock master brought the chef in for a buffet dinner. It was a great way to socialize with the other cruisers. The showers are amazing! They had a courtesy car that can be used for 2 hours. It's true that cell service was not good but wifi worked. Looking forward to returning.

A first class operation, 2012-09-05
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

River Dunes is, in a word, elegant. The concept is like a golf club community only centered around the marina. The harbor is very sheltered with no current. The floating docks are top notch. The courtesy car is a definite plus. Watch your receipts though. The prices loaded in the computer don't always match the posted prices.

Update: We stayed a day longer than planned due to weather. The staff were most accommodating given the short notice. The computer glitch was resolved and now River Dunes rates a solid five stars. We'd stay there again without hesitation.

Without Peer, 2012-08-06
Captain: , Daniel Island, SC (330)

Without peer, River Dunes is the finest private yacht club open to the public on the east coast. Marina is state-of-the-art with a yacht basin that was once farmland. Guests enjoy all the privileges of members including dining, pool, fitness center and bar. Courtesy car provided to nearby Oriental. J.C. Cappleman is a veteran sailor who makes guests feel like members. It is a must stop, just off the ICW.

RiverDunes entrance, 2012-07-26
Captain: , River Dunes,NC (38)

The entrance to River Dunes is located inside of Broad Creek, directly across the creek from daymarker # 4.It is marked by two fixed daymarkers( green #1 and red #2) progressing inbound are two red nuns and one green cac.
This entrance to the canal is at a 30 degree angle to the actual bulkheaded channel, therefore the bulkheaded channel will not open up to you until you reach the last red nun.
8 feet can be carried into the creeek and marina.

Great place to Stay, 2012-07-25
Captain: , St. James Plantation NC (10)

JC and staff were very helpfull, only issue is the entrance. A bit confusing if arriving late with low light. Just realize the entrance was cut, not natural, and the older chart plotter maps will not show the entrance. You might get into the shallow creek next to it. Recommend keeping seamans eye pealed for the entrance cut to the left. 2 Nun bouys point to the small entrance.

Seasonal Rates, 2012-07-09
Captain: , Charlotte Harbor, FL (1588)

The buck a foot rate shown under dockage ended June 1st.
It's now $1.50.
Looks like a great place to stay longer but there is not much nearby.
Restaurant on site open weekends.
Great to have a pool during the heat wave.

Restaurant disaster, 2012-06-12
Captain: , Gore Bay (80)

Very nice spot. Quiet, nice grounds, excellent docks, easy access.....lots going for it. We had planned to stay a couple of days but an absolute horrible experience at the restaurant....service was really bad. Waited over an hour for appetizers, waitress appeared to have no service experience whatsoever. When we expressed our concern to mgr they were very apologetic and compt'd the wine and appetizers...which was very generous. When main course finally arrived, it was stone cold. We never said anything. Just finished up and left in the AM. Did receive a phone call and email from JC the next day offering apologies and a free night next time through. They are trying hard but it's after the fact. They'd be better putting a little more focus upfront.

River Dunes is another must see spot., 2012-05-31
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (122)

JC and his staff do a wonderful job running this fantastic facility and making everyone feel welcome and appreciated. We have been there twice now and will definitely be back. They also have a great price on fuel. I would rate this a must stop for anyone transiting the ICW in this area and lookign for a place to spend a night or more. Thanks again JC!

Excellent Stop, 2012-05-28
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Stopped here 4/25-4/26/12. Beautiful development and marina. In a land locked basin. Excellent floating docks. Easy navigational access. Development is new but made to look old via styles from yesteryear. Manager JC was very professional. Restaurant is only open on weekends. However, the marina has a courtesy car we used one night to go to Oriental for dinner. Would definitely stop here again.

Lovely but Reomte, 2012-05-25
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (326)

We agree with the other posts, but demure with respect to connectivity. No cell access. This is a super place to visit when timing permits. From Swansboro we made it in a lovely day. Also, from Cape Lookout Bight this would be a most fun day. The folks at the marina were super and facilities are exceptional.

Wow- what a marina, 2012-05-23
Captain: , Rock Hall, Md. (50)

This is one of the nicest, well maintained facilities that we have pulled into. I wish we could have stayed for a while as it was indelicate. Everyone here goes out of their way to make sure you come back. At current rate ($1/ ft,) it is easily the best deal on the ICW. The idea here is to build a boating community with all of the amenities. They are successful. A+++.

River Dunes, 2012-05-06
Captain: , Baltimore, Maryland (330)

A great marina and great staff. If you have a place to wait out a blow, this would be it. Not much to do there, though. Great protection and first class facilities.

The "Ritz Carlton" of marinas, 2012-05-04
Captain: , Harrisburg, PA (71)

We spent nine days at River Dunes in April waiting out a nor'easter and some other otherweather in the Chesapeake. JC was very good to us and we loved the facilities including a well stocked library, fitness center with good equipment, bicycles, and last, but not least a great price for the off season. They are very generous with the loaner car. If only AT&T would put in a tower and cable TV was added on the docks, we might have stayed forever.

Great Overnight Stop, 2012-05-02
Captain: , Southport NC (50)

Great overnight stop when traveling the IC. If you are lucky enough to catch it on a night when the restaurant isopen you are in for a treat. The marina staff is excellent and the marina is on of the best on the ICW. I understand they have a courtesy car - we didn't use it that you can take into Oriental of anything you might need including a West Marine.

Confusion over fuel prices, 2012-05-01
Captain: , Bristol, RI (386)

I called the day before arriving to make a reservation and to check fuel (gas) prices. I was told $4.30 per gallon. On the way, I by-passed Jarrett Bay Boatworks in Adams Creek Canal selling gas at $4.25/gal.

When I arrived I was not pleased to find River Dunes charging $4.58 per gal. No onr knows why the wrong price was quoted.

Be careful.

River Dunes Marina, 2012-04-26
Captain: , Merrimack, NH (73)

I agree that River Dunes is a great marina. The entrence markers have been fixed and additional red and green bouys have been added. Pay very close attention to your chart plotter as you enter the creek. Skinny water.

Very Protected, 2012-01-27
Captain: , Harveys Lake, PA (100)

Very much enjoyed my stay. JC has an eye for deatail and their curtesy car made it an enjoyable day to shop at West Marine and grab a burger in town. Marina is spotless with a work out facility not tto mention a hot tub. All staff were very accomodating and the docks were wonderful.

A must visit marina!, 2012-01-21
Captain: , New Bern, NC (180)

I have had the opportunity to stay at River Dunes Marina twice in the last month or so. Both times I have visited, the staff was most helpful. The markers from Lower Broad Creek in to the facility were still damaged from Hurricane Irene but have been marked with temporary "bottles" to get you in. The dock hands were able to explain over the radio how to get in safely.

Once inside you are very well protected. The docks are floating and in very good condition. This is a very upscale facility at an unbelievably affordable price.

The biggest problem we had was entering Lower Broad Creek from the Neuse. The channel was full of crab pots, 15 to 20 dark blue pots and a few orange ones. Once past these River Dunes made it worth the effort.

Illusion, Stu & Barbara, 2011-12-01
Captain: , Chapel Hill, NC (10)

Liked this place so well on a stopover in route south that we decided to make it our home port. Facilities are overall the best I have visited. So is the Harbor Master. Never was our decision to stay more rewarded than when Irene hit in August. The well protected harbor, superb floating docks and a little preparation by all the other occupants held Irene's damage to a few trees around the edges.

River Dunes - Amazing Marina with some quirks, 2011-11-26
Captain: , Portsmouth RI (275)

An amazing place at a low cost. Steam showers and a magnificent pool and club house. Unique.

A few points to note, could not make contact with the marina by radio for help finding my way in until it was almost too late. When I called by phone I was told to call on channel 16!
The cruising guide says to turn at red marker 4. Unfortunately many months after Irene there is a small floating red marker 4 relocated by Irene before the actual red marker 4. Ignore it. Turn before the day marker.

The entrance canal is not visible from the creek. It is marked by two posts which have markers on the opposite side of the posts. JC consequently explained that the missing markers on only one side of the posts were blown off by Irene and that due to the difficulty of getting new boards they have not been able to get new markers in the months since Irene.

There are two floating juice bottles with colored liquid which once you spot them mark the way in.

For a magnificent marina, one would assume that they would make it easy for newcomers.

The communal dinner, chilli, corn bread, salad and cake was excellent and attractive at $12/person. We signed up when we checked in.

Due to a misunderstanding we were charged almost $38 for 2 but after a few emails JC promised a refund.

River Dunes is remote and there is NO AT&T reception. We resorted to Skype but the Internet speed was very slow and skype was unusable inspite of the antennas at each dock.

A iunique, truly amazing luxorious place to get away where you are not bothered by calls or Internet.

Excellent value for money
The dinning room is magnificient.

Easy Southern Sailing, 2011-11-18
Captain: , deale, md (10)

After a wonderful sail on the Neuse, we returned for our third visit to what we consider the best marina on the East Coast as we travel north and south. Discovered athe Annapolis Sailboat show, we did not quite believe the brochure until our first stop made us into true believers. Coincidentally we discovered that friends had built a very lovely retirement home. So it is now a must stop to enjoy the spacious clubhouse, pool, resort style bath facilities, community style meals and fine wine plus Valvetect diesel for those who care about their fuel quality. Great staff too made us feel at home.

Great Marina and Location if you don't need Groceries, 2011-11-16
Captain: , Gulf Shores Alabama (748)

This is a beautiful high-end resort with a beautiful basin and marina with excellent facilities which include floating concrete docks, pumpout, fuel, Clubhouse with porch/fireplace, coffee in the mornings, clean very nice showers, and beautiful surroundings. They only negative is that it is several miles (3-5) from civilization, which is Oriental. They do have a loaner car which they very kindly loaned us to go into town Sunday night after we got in late.

We entered the harbor at mid-tide in a 5'2" draft sailboat with no problems, but you must pay attention to the bouys and stay in the middle of the channels. Once you get to Marker 4 in Broad River, take a sharp left into the basin entrance, staying in the center of the channel, which is temporarialy marked with red & green milk jugs since Irene. Once you are in the channel you have good water (6+feet) up to the T docks. This would be a 5 star except for groceries or any kind of stores. If you don't need a store, it is a six.

Can't Say Enough about River Dunes, 2011-11-11
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale (30)

We love this place! Until you've been here it's hard to describe to someone how nice it is. It's very protected from any high winds and the setting is very special.
If you need to go into Oriental there is a courtesy car for your use.

Absolutely Fabulous, 2011-11-10

Great shelter. Wonderful facilities. Although the restaurant was normally closed, they put on a "Family Style" chicken and dumplings dinner.

Feels Like Home, 2011-11-09
Captain: , Portsmouth, RI (51)

Oct 2008 - Dockmaster JC Cappleman and his staff make this beautiful facility feel like home. Pool, spa, exercise room, clean and modern steam showers, loaner cars, new floating docks and friendly boaters' gatherings in front of the clubhouse fireplace . . . all combine to make River Dunes an unforgettable gem on the ICW.

Oct 2011 - We've visited River Dunes five times now on our way north or south. If you haven't stopped by yet in favor of another marina or anchorage, you're missing one of the best spots on the waterway.

Great Stop remains great after hurricane, 2011-11-06
Captain: , jackson, TN (884)

Our second stay and it remains a jewel on the ICW and worthy of its five star rating. Don't miss this great marina.

Stayed at River Dunes Marina just north of Oriental. What a delight !
Lovely main building with billiards, great library, super sailing photos of J boats and a great Rest. (Thurs-Sun). New tile heads, laundry, great pool and cabanas, hot tubs, workout room and even croquet on the lawn. New floating docks and $1,50/'. Free curtesy van with Oriental a 15 min. drive. Manager, CJ, is a delight as is the facility. Next time we'll spend two or three days. A real "resort" atmosphere at a good price. Try it - you'll like it !

11/3 - 11/6.... Couldn't find a better place to hole up for nasty weather. The day we were suppose to arrive we got a call from them asking if we wanted to partake in a family style dinner very inexpensively. We did have a great Lasagna that evening and wonderful company with JC and Judy and Jeff and Karen Siegal from Active Captain.
The facilities and personell are top notch. they just wanted to be sure we were comfortable.
Would definitely come back again. Thank you River Dunes for making our stay nice.

Captain: , Bear, DE (255)

Stayed 4 days and worth every bit of 5 stars. We spent a lot of time here last winter and wouldn't think of passing this area without stopping in. They survived Irene with minimal damage but there were many tense moments during the surge. Cleanup was a major task but they rose to the occasion and this place remains the crowned jewel of the ICW in my mind.

First class, 5 star, 2011-11-04
Captain: , Havre de Grace (119)

We rode out some weather on 15-17 April 2011. Great protection here. There are floating docks and new large club house facilities.
It is an isolated spot, but they have two courtesy cars at the transients disposal. Returned on 27 Oct. 2011 and stayed for four niights. Had family style dinners for two of the nights. Just outstanding clubhouse, restaurant and other facilitiies. Provisions not far away with courtesy car. Had wifi at boat, but better reception in clubhouse.

Nice Location off Broad Creek, 2011-11-04
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

10/31-11/1/11 New floating docks on shore side faciltly. Good wifi with Verizon, and local TV. Loaner car was a nice plus to go in and grocery shop and walk around Oriental .Family style dinner depends on how many want to participate. Need to inform transients ahead of time. Maybe put something on webpage. Some pages did not open up fully however. Slip price competitive @ $1.50ft. and honored Annapolis boat show promotion. We have recommended it to others and will return. Great to walk or jog around the area. Also have bikes to ride. Nice workout room. Didn't try the steam showers, but sounds great. Laundry was good, 2 washers and dryers@ 1.00 each. Washers are 30 minutes dryers take longer. JC very pleasant on the phone and helpful. Sorry we didn't get to meet face to face.

MOSTLY a Nice Place ... but ..., 2011-10-31
Captain: , Essex, CT (1245)

A nice place with beautiful docks, but some issues. No WiFi. Rather than being simply just told this, we spent 1/2 an hour trying all different spots around the property. Twice we were told by JC that it was working fine. Only after asking the third time were we told it was not & that they were going to be ordering a "mega" new system in the future. It got to almost be a running joke, as every new boater came in asking around on how to access the WiFi, as they couldn't. With no AT&T cell, could not even tether our iPhone. Heard that Verizon was ok. Cable TV at dock did not work- for us or others.

Most slips seem to have only 50 AMP service, so keep that in mind (or ask ahead).

Some nights they have family style dinners which are fun to attend.

As a minor (but important) note, to get hot water from the shower, you need to press the little red button in the middle of the lever, then continue turning it (some safety gadget??). The mens' side had a sign advising - the womens' was missing.
Suggest that transients be given an info sheet with all necessary marina info.
Beautiful grounds, although the path from the Harbor Club to the head of the dock was poorly lit. The docks were well lit.

What a Disapointment, 2011-10-25
Captain: , sassafras river, md (303)

Nothing works, over rated. Bathrooms while interesting have no locks on the doors, so people just walk in to "look around", wifi doesnt work, cable tv in the rec room, broken, the only nice suprise was the washers and dryers only cost 1 dollar a load, cheap for most marinas.

Just a beautiful marina, 2011-10-21

Second time here. Clean, beautiful area. They have a loaner car, bikes, exercise room, laundry, steam room, beautiful showers, pool, restaurant. A must stop!

Layover at River Dunes, 2011-09-14
Captain: , Bozeman (10)

September 3, we brought our 39' sailboat into River Dunes for a six week layover in what appears to be a well protected hole in the Pamlico area. Certainly, River Dunes handled Irene well. Entry depths for our 6'-1" draft were adequate, the tall surrounding pines afford some additional wind protection, and the floating docks are excellent. Though we did not have time to relax and enjoy the marina's amenities, the place is very beautiful, as is all of the architecture. Very pretty pool. Though it is located rather out in "banjo-land", the courtesy car makes up for some of that. A small West Marine store is about ten minutes away. Marina manager JC is helpful. Good spot altogether, and fairly priced for sure. Thanks for your help JC!

Excellent Hurricane Hole, 2011-09-03
Captain: , Oriental, NC (146)

Our boat received not a scratch from Irene. A fine facility with floating docks well off the open waters of the Neuse River. One caveat: Surge could be a problem at about 10 feet. Two boaters who stayed aboard during Irene said that the surge came within a foot of the tops of the pilings.

In Good Shape After Irene, 2011-08-30

River Dunes survived Irene with minimal damage. Marina is open with fuel, but no pump-out and limited shore power.

Must agree, definitely deserving of the 5-star rating, 2011-08-09
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (44)

My fellow cruisers are so right. This is an absolutely gorgeous place with the most hospitable of hosts. And the price is more than right as well. Heading north last spring, we anchored in Broad Creek, unaware that this marina even existed, but when seriously severe weather was threatening and we saw several boats heading in, we decided to join the parade. The whole group of 8 to 10 boats spent three days there getting to know one another and enjoying all that the marina has to offer. We will return there this fall, weather the weather is threatening or not. It's much more convenient for us than stopping in Oriental.

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, 2011-08-04

Must stop on the ICW. Simply the best marina we've been at, perhaps even better than Emerald Bay in the Bahamas...

Incredible clubhouse, pool, exercise room and showers and many included "extras". $1.50/foot when we stopped in. Although 8' can be expected almost everywhere, we saw a few 7' spots near low tide.

Only missing part "is you"., 2011-06-29
Captain: , Newport,RI (178)

This is my 2nd post on this wonderful place. Read all the posts and you will see that River Dunes is one of the best places on the whole ICW to just "kick back" and enjoy a 5 star complex. Low per foot rate, curtesy car, pool, hot tub, great showers, and on the weekends a wonderful eating place.

Such a secure harbor, I am amazed that more boaters do not pull in for a few days, or at least treat your self to a day.

"JC" and all the dock hands are so nice. And the main house for the marina is such a relaxing place to curl up with a great book or ready the many boating magizines around the sofa's. And they have a WiWi for the kids or adults to enjoy.

Stop, you will love it.

Beautiful, freindly, great facilities, 2011-05-27
Captain: , St. Ignace, Michigan (236)

Incredible facility, wonderful staff, perhaps the best marina we've encountered after 3/4 of the loop...but we couldn't stay because our Verizon air card wouldn't connect consistantly, and ATT cell service non existant.

Fantastic place, 2011-05-25
Captain: , Knapps Narrows Md (450)

This is definitely the best marina we have stayed at on our trip north. JC, the harbormaster is an old friend and he always runs a class act. The facilities are first rate from the floating docks to the pool, exercise room and rest room facilities. The place is immaculate and beautiful. We borrowed the courtesy car to provision in Oriental. You really have to search to find anything negative to say. Our only disappointment was that we stayed during the week and the restaurant that looks great was not open.

Everything here is first rate. Nice country setting Frist rate clubhouse that serves meals on weekends. You have to see the TVs built in behind one way mirrors in the upstairs lounge. The ouners didn't want to spoil the look of the lounge by havine exposed TV sets.

Bicycles, golf carts and a loaner car are at your dispoasl.

Captain: , Westport,Ma (710)

high end private yacht club feel. But you feel like the only one there. All new very well done private planned community. Wonderful pool with 2 hot tubs. Laundry room $1 for a wash $1 for a dry. Workout room, the bathrooms you have to experience yourself....ahhhhhh! The clubhouse is beqautifully done like what a private mens club would look like pool table bar and a beautiful Library. There is a porch all around the building with comfy chairs and a outdoor fireplace. Also a fire pit away from the building abit with rocking chairs around it. They have a courtesy car to go into town about a 15 min ride. We had lunch at M+m's cafe very good its located right next to the town marina. Downtown doesn't have a whole lot to offer but there is a consignment boat store that you can pick your way through, a post office, a couple resturants, hardware store etc.

My first 5 star rating, 2011-05-03
Captain: , Lansdale, PA (330)

The floating docks are in excellent condition, in a well protected harbor surrounded by beautiful homes, rental cottages, a chapel, a beautiful pool area with covered cabanas, multiple hot tubs and firepits. We've seen nice showers at other marinas, but none with steam and jets, like these. They have a courtesy car and bikes to explore the area and a fitness center. The restaurant overlooks the marina and is beautifully decorated, but was only open on the weekends, so we didn't get to try it. Not only does this marina have great amenities, but service to match. They went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. This marina is a must stop and we look forward to returning.

This is a new, well protected marina with floating docks and 10' depths throughout. The faciities include use of the harbor club and very clean and functional bath house. One of the best marinas on the east coast!

We stayed here September and October 2010. What a lovely spot. Beuatiful pool and two hot tubs, loaner car, friendly staff in a perfect spot. The restaurant is OK, had a few fantastic meals and a couple not so great. Grocery, hardware, West Marine and several restaurants ( The Food Emporium, Bama is the owner, food is fantastic) a short car ride away. J.C. is the dockmaster here and is so very accomidating. We will certainly return, but take lots of bug spray.

Captain: , Oxford, Md. (10)

Just spent two nights in the most upscale, well thought out, Marina I have ever been in. I've known J.C. for 8 or 10 years. He was the Dockmaster in my home-port Marina in Oxford, Md. I remember when he left, to take on this phenominal project, about 5 years back; that it was a fantastic opportunity to create a world class yachting facility from a pine forest .... a tough task at best. Well, I'm pleased, but not surprised, to report "mission accomplished". I can't even begin to describe this facility ... it just is simply the best. Pamper yourself with a little R&R in this beautiful resort setting ... Valvetect fuel is an added bonus !
