Reviews for Riding Rock Marina
Surge on fuel dock, 2017-03-17
Captain: , Delaware City, DE (204)

Stayed here 2 nights. Got diesel and rented a car. Both arranged at resort restaurant. First night we were on the S wall with E winds going to S and all was good.

Wind came from S and veered to N through W during second day. We were stuck on fuel dock which seems worst position. Winds were about 10knots S and W and 15 North. Surge built all day, 6 each 3/4" dock lines, occasional sets of breakers across the channel. Watched the local dive boat come in, not pretty.

We went out at high tide at 10:30 pm, made it ok but was scary. Very hard to stay physically oriented by flashlight on the cut walls. Not a recommended stunt.

Stayed 7 days, wtr. not good, ran gen. for Elec., east wind, locals were great, one other sailboat in marina, good beaches, conch, fishing, still building from storm damage, draft 6.10' in and out no problem. Kings Odyssey, Greg

Spent one night here and the surge was so bad, and the slips too small, I had to stay up all night tightening stretched ropes trying to keep the boat off of the posts and from backing into the sea wall. The bad part is you couldnt leave if you wanted to, because the 6' swell was breaking right in the channel. The sailboat next to us had his tender flip, and a 65 Hatteras CMY along the wall was breaking telephone pole dock posts. The surfing there the next moring was perfect though, and the free diving is ridiculous. 40' down, looking over the edge into the abyss. Everything but the marina gets a 5 star, because of the adventure, but the marina gets a 3. With surge it gets a negative 1.

decent place to stay and see the island, 2015-03-24

We really wanted water, but there's no potable water at the dock, nor anywhere easy on the island. No laundry at the marina, but mens shower was hot, bathrooms clean. Definitely be prepared for surge in the slips with any kind of swell. ATM was walking distance, as was store, though a little farther. Best part was the wahoo and mahi we were handed when the sport fishermen came in! Those guys are super nice. Marina wifi not working, but open network available w/booster.

Spent three nights in marina, Kevin does it all. Breakfast in the resturaunt (short walk) $20, dinner $40, both worth the experience.
Marina was exactly what I expected, no problems. Dock water was not usable (too salty), so make sure watermaker is functioning.
Fishing was great as the bite was on, released two blues.

Still SURGE!!!!, 2014-04-02
Captain: , Slidell, La. (1148)

Our most uncomfortable night on anchor was nothing compared to the night at the marina. Doubled dock lines and fenders and was was stll concerned about breaking loose. Winds were NE 10-15. Restaurent closed sundays and if less than 6 reservations, but bar was open with good drinks and view. Rent car from marina for $90/day and drive a circle around island to see everything. Inlet was straight forward. Worth the travel and no regrets...

I've Been Surged!, 2011-06-02
Captain: , Newark, DE (250)

Good marina with decent facilites. Staff is friendly and accomodating. The surge was ridiculous though! I have never seen boats being tossed around like toys in a marina like this before! I wall on the wall and it wasn't terrible, but it did cost me a fender from the rubbing back and forth between the wall and boat. The island is a nice place, but I think for me it was a one time deal. There are many great places and people to see and meet on the island, good groceries, and excellent snorkeling from shore. The surge was too much for me though. Wind was from the east at 25 knots, so maybe in calmer weather it is fine.

Too much surge, 2011-03-09
Captain: , Montreal, PQ, Canada (560)

Very good facility overall, BUT surge, surge, surge... It is said it is untenable in westerlies... we were there in NE and still, lots and lots of surge!
