Reviews for Rich Marine
Stepping mast, 2015-10-04
Captain: , Melbourne (50)

Rich Marine guys helped us step our 50' mast with no problem. If you want a five star marina forget it. It's basic but has a shower and toilets some walk away. Supermarket is less than 3kms away and easily accessible by bicycle. A couple of chandleries including West Marine are close by. Ideal for mast stepping.

Tools to do the job, 2015-08-17
Captain: , Racine, WI (515)

We stopped here to have our mast unstepped. These guys knew what they were doing. Not much to look at, but I would use them again. Price was reasonable and guys were very friendly.

Friendly, Well Equipped Old Facility., 2015-06-25

This marina has been here for 50 years or more. This is not an upscale facility, but the kind of place you would want to be if you needed help or service. Attractive appearance is not the focus of this marina. They have a concrete ramp and a Travel Lift, as well as fuel and pump out facilities. They do not appear to cater to the transient trade, but they certainly welcomed us. The restrooms/showers were clean and spacious, but not new or luxurious. A small ship%u2019s store in the sales building seemed well stocked and reasonably priced. The slips berthed local boats, from runabouts to 50 footers. The grounds showed evidence of pleasing the slipholders, with security, pest control, and areas set aside for slipholder%u2019s canopies that covered grills, refrigerators, tables and chairs, that made it feel socially warm and comfortable.

The personable owner told me that his grandfather built the marina when the adjacent interstate highway was built, and they needed a %u201Cborrow pit%u201D for aggregate. A large protected lagoon was the result. The fixed docks, including the pilings and planks are made of steel instead of the usual wood. They have wood fender planks covering the I-beam pilings to protect the boats. It looks unusual to one who frequents coastal marinas, but very functional.

We stayed 3 nights. This stop was the termination of a 2 week Erie Canal cruise and haul out point. We rented a car to retrieve our truck and trailer from our launch point on the Finger Lakes. The marina allowed us to store our big trailer in their large fenced storage yard, while we toured Niagara Falls and the Buffalo attractions overland for a couple of days. Restaurants and attractions are not really walking distance, but not far by car. Ice and limited groceries are available from a 7-Eleven convenience store that is about 3 blocks north.

Skip this place, 2014-10-26
Captain: , Westerville (70)

We had them un-step our mast, build supports and set it on the deck. The people who do the work knew what they were doing, but management doesn't have a clue. Facility is run down, docks are old and badly in need of maintenance and the whole place is overpriced.

Skip this place if you can.

Good yard work, marina is marginal, 2014-09-18
Captain: , Catawba Island, OH (523)

We had our mast taken down here to transit the canal and stayed one night in the marina. The guys in the yard were very knowledgable and did a good job with the rigging. We had them make the supports for the mast as well. They knew there stuff. The marina is pretty basic. The shower and rest rooms are very basic, the docks are fixed and offer the bare minimum. The surrounding area is pretty scary. There is a West Marine within walking distance and also some restaurants, but most were closed on Monday and Tuesday this time of year. After going by Wardells I was glad to have Rich as the company that did our work. I don't think Wardells could have handled our mast of 63 feet.

OK in a pinch, 2014-07-08
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

We pulled in here to get our arch raised and ended up at 3 nights due to arriving on a Saturday and a storm.
Staff who helped raise the arch were pleasant although it was only a 15 minute job it cost $90 it's was too heavy for just my wife and I.
The marina is not set up for large boats and we had no power or use of any facilities except an outhouse although they charged $30 a night for a 49' boat.
Close to the Black Rock Lock who was run by the best lock master we have met in over 60 locks.
Would probably skip stopping by Rich's again although it is close to West Marine.

Great working yard, 2013-08-18
Captain: , Castine, ME (58559)

We needed a place to put our boat back together after traveling across the entire Erie Canal. I called other yards in the area and were unimpressed with the responses. Rich Marine was different.

We came in and within 30 minutes of work, our arch was back and upright. We stayed another full day to clean the boat, re-install the Bimini and check everything out before our Great Lakes travel.

There's a West Marine next door and a marine store at the yard. We used both for getting everything back to normal.

Water pressure at the marina is fire hose quality. Great for washing the boat.

They barely charged us for staying 2 nights - extremely reasonable.

All in all, an excellent experience. There's no question that I'd come back here again.

Good professional yard and nice marina, 2013-08-06
Captain: , Harrison Twp, MI (350)

Got the mast raised here, very professional and knowledgeable crew. When we were there on8/4 - 8/8, we found the restroom and showers very clean and rather new looking. Very comfortable atmosphere with plenty of fellow boaters around. This yard has a small marine store, with another across the street and west Marine a few blocks down.

Great service, great access to marines stores, facilities a little tired, 2013-07-23
Captain: , Brisbane, Australia (399)

We stopped here to unstep our mast for our trip down the Erie Canal. Paid $325 for our PSC 34 and $34/night.

The grounds and shower block are not very well kept, but in all other regards this is a great stop. The staff are competent, genuinely helpful and friendly. There is easy access to bus transportation on nearby Niagara St. There is a West Marine a short walk north and a Sailors Supply store a short walk south. There is a great restuarant and a deli within spitting distance.

Excellent jump off for canal or lake., 2013-06-10
Captain: , watchet (13)

Marina a little run down but very adequate. Very helpful staff who did a good job unstepping mast (50ft $320 ) Washrooms very clean and plenty of hot water. Shopping facilities nearby including large Wetsmarine. No wi-fi. No diesel. No laundry.

Great folks near dicey neighborhood, 2012-06-08
Captain: , Warwick, RI (432)

Neighborhood is dicey after Niagara Street to Military Road.(About 1 mile). There have been reports of shootings and stabbings. There is security at the marina and we felt safe. South of this area is the famous Elmwood district with lots of restaurants and nightlife.
$500 a month for a slip for a 30 footer transient slip.
$500 to pull the masts for my ketch.
Gas is available.

Rich Marine, 2011-08-21
Captain: , Lake in The Hills, Illinois (542)

We stayed 2 nights and had our mast unstepped. Mike in the office is awesome and worked with us to get things accomplished. They had 3 workers on the boat and another person running the crane. We paid $40 a night for dockage and $325 for our 60' mast and $225 for our 30 foot mast. We stayed inside the marina the first night but the bottom was only 8' along the wall and pretty shallow further in. The wall by the crane is in rough shape so you need adequate fenders for your vessel.

Excellent Location, 2011-01-17
Captain: , Buffalo, NY (141)

You can leave the marina on nice days and head up the river to Lake Erie in minutes. On windy days you have the Black Rock Canal to run into downtown Buffalo and avoid the lake or you can head down river giving you miles of boating around Grand Island or into the Erie Canal without high waves

Rich's Marina, 2009-09-01
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

Nice well protected just prior to the lock in large basin. West marine and other marine stores in waling distance. They do step masts.

Charged $30/night for 34' boat.
