Reviews for RAM Marina
Beyond Our Expectations!, 2017-04-23
Captain: , Eau Gallie, FL (349)

We came to RAM in May, 2016. I had been shopping throughout the Caribbean and east coast US for new gelcoat for our deck and topsides. We've owned boats since the mid '80's, so have been in many yards in many countries. The Marina Director, Karen de Lopez, gave me a quote in 2015, after I sent her a bunch of photos. Nearly a year later, she honored that competitive quote. The job was great! I'm impressed by the attention to detail, and skill of the paint crew, led by expert Saul. We also had some cabinetry and varnish work done. Walter was fast, and professional, leaving us with furniture-quality varnished handrails, and new galley cabinet veneer. RAM is quite a large organization, but the staff treats you like family, giving the air of a mom and pop marina. Karen is a real problem solver. Our boat was painted in the only paint shed I've seen where you can leave your mast up. Our boat was then stored on their concrete Tarmac, with is cleaned regularly. This working yard is spotless compared to any yard I've seen. Improvements are continuous,. Customer service, value for your money, and the feeling of home are 5 star. Oh, and hats off to Richard Monstein, owner, (and builder of the place) who gives personal attention where needed. Next season, he'll finish a second haulout and storage area for large Cats. They also managed getting our anchor chain regalvanized in Guatemala City. We are leaving today, mid January, 2017.

Excellent!, 2017-03-09

RAM Marina exceeded our expectations with exceptional customer service, meticulous workmanship and very fair pricing. Karen, the manager, goes out of her way to communicate and coordinate service with customers, who are treated like family. And the craftsmen...they're not happy till you're happy. Richard, the owner, is a total pro, who cares for his marina and customers with a passion.
In short, a clean, safe, professionally run operation. Simply the best!

Best Yard I have ever been to, 2017-01-26
Captain: , Bristol, RI (772)

This is primarily a work yard. I have had my boat Awlgripped from the waterline up, including decks, cockpit, etc. The workmanship is superior in quality and the charges for work are extremely reasonable. This yard beats Trinidad by a mile. The Office is managed by Karen who is a delight to work with. The yard provides great service, keeps to a schedule, and wants to work closely with yacht owners to assure satisfaction. Honest, hard working people. If you are looking for paint work, it is excellent and has a mast up shed for indoor work. I can't stress how fine a yard this is for major refit work.

Highest rating, full service marina, 2016-11-04
Captain: , Peterborough (71)

Ram is an excellent place to haul out and get your work done. They hauled our 65' power vessel for bottom work and repairs. Because they have an in-house workforce that are dedicated, hardworking and trained they can guarantee their work. The have excellent fibreglass and paint specialist.
There is also a chandelier that carries the West Marine product line. The management are fluent in English and Karen the yard/operations manager will make sure that everything is done to the highest standards, quickly and with a smile. This location is also a very good value with your dollar going further than most other yards.

Ram Marina and Boat yard, 2015-01-26
Captain: , New Bern, NC. (801)

Capt. Charles Freeman did a good review on Ram Marina. We were on the hard for a month of October 2014. Had some work done. Karen, the manager is very knowledgeable of boat work and what the job entails. She tries to give a time frame for the job but it will depend on the people who does the job and their work load. I was impressed with the yard and haul out facilities, better then the ones I used in the USA.

Be advised, the closer to cruising season the harder to get work
done and haul and launch schedules met.

I spent a year here..., 2014-11-29

Doing a job that was quoted for one month... They have a competent Awlgrip painter named Henry who will do the best he can considering they don't have a proper paint shed and it rains all the time. He is a perfectionist and will keep redoing it until it comes out right. They have a reasonable mechanic for doing things like servicing prop shafts and cutless bearings, but they have no machine shop, engine shop or welder, and only basic carpentry services. They can sand blast bottoms and do good bottom and blister repair. They do good fiberglass work. Make sure you get a fixed priced quote before any work and they will honor the quote in dollars, but not in time; they haven't a clue how to estimate total time in the yard correctly as they are always taking your workers away and putting them on other jobs, so you must be a squeaky wheel and supervise your own job. It really helps to be fluent in Spanish for this, as only the American owner and the marina manager speak English, and the manager (Karen) is very, very busy. Be sure to track your own electrical meter readings. In our case they read the meter for 24 hours and tried to extrapolate for five months! Not good. They have a new marine store which carries a good selection of West Marine items at a significant markup from US prices. They have a convenience store with a good selection of drinks and light cafe fare at slightly higher prices than town. They have excellent free wifi, hot showers but no pool, but you can walk next door to the pool at Nana Juana for the price of a drink. They have limited dock space but it is good quality side ties and secure with free drinking and separate washing water. They have good security using both guards and cameras. Town is a cheap Tuktuk ride away.

They take excellent care of your boat keeping it clean and aired out when you are not here. They have a large concrete working yard so things stay pretty clean as yards go. However they are happy to spray paint the boat next to you paying only lip service to where the overspray goes, so be careful and keep an eye on all work yourself. Just remember you're in Guatemala despite all the US trappings and keep smiling, you'll get out of here eventually.

Modern and the place to fuel., 2013-05-11
Captain: , Columbia, Missouri (415)

We didn't stay here but we took on the 1400 gallons of fuel. Call ahead and negotiate the price between marinas. You'll be surprised at what they will do. They take US credit cards and are a full service marina with a nice store.
