Reviews for Puerto del Rey Marina
A solid facility for a stop, 2016-07-31
Captain: , PooleUK (933)

The visitors berths are invariably on the outer edge of the marina, which exposes them to the wash of the residents, who can be a little heavy on the throttle coming in. With a hire car or taxi you can find all you need locally. I can not comment on the services or boat yard. Fuel is at a decent rate but slow to pump. The WIFI is a little patchy on the outer berths, which are a LONG walk from the facility.

Great marina, 2016-07-24
Captain: , Newport, RI (190)

No thrills. The place is very secure. Has a good marine store and westmarine is about 15min away. Thrifty Car rental at location, but call to reserve. They don't seem to have a lot of availability. All employees were very nice and willing to help. Will be back.

Nice, but spendy., 2016-03-01
Captain: , Chugiak (1196)

Daily rate (less than a week) was $102.46 per day for our 47' cat (and we didn't hook up to power). Quite steep, but this is only the second dock we've used in 5 years. However, employees are very friendly and accommodating. Golf carts are handy for transporting heavy/cumbersome goods as we were moving off our boat - even have trailers to get all the stuff in one trip.
Lots of power boats around for fishing and some can be rather noisy during the day when they play their music while cleaning the boats. Wifi was horrible and could rarely get any strength to just check email.
Over all, a good experience despite the fact we were moving off after five years and were transferring it to a new owner.

Best Marina, 2016-02-11
Captain: , Hampton, VA (91)

There is nothing bad to say about this Marina. $1.25 a foot, free golf cart transportation down the docks, a killer bar and grill, and nice shower and bathroom facilities. Also free water!

No doubt about it...this is one of the nicest marinas I have ever been in. Rates for my 48 ft sailboat were 1.45 per ft daily or $1.30 per ft. weekly. Loved it here but glad to get bck out on the hook. Sisco from Mobile Marine gave me good service and sourced a part I need for my dinghy motor...he does all kinds of repairs, though. (787-646-1170
Channel 71 connects you to customer service and they always's a long way to the office so call for a golf cart ride unless you just want some exercise.

Very Positive Experience, 2014-02-16
Captain: , Bristol, RI (762)

Came for three weeks to have repairs and tour island. Rental cars available on site. Marina is professional run and reasonable. Very good protection from tradewinds. Long walk from boat to land but provides great exercise to work off the beer. Good services for repair (carpenter at Island Marine is excellent.... replaced a piece of toe rail), awlgrip is reasonably priced (believe it or not), and mechanical work was of high quality.

Excellent jumping off point..., 2013-11-24

I come and go from Puerto del Rey many times during the cruising season and am never disappointed by the courteous staff. As other reviewers have noted, this is not the place for night life, but if you're meeting guests and are looking for a great spot to call home base while wandering around in the Spanish Virgins this is the place. Shopping (via rental car) is available in Fajardo and the drive into San Juan is about an hour, depending on time of day.

Nothing going on here, 2012-11-28
Captain: , Great Falls, VA (1092)

HUGE Marina, so big the staff gives up rides in golf carts to land. But totally lacking in anything to do. Staff is very friendly and helpful, but that does not make up enough for this being a rather non destination. You have to rent a car to get anywhere. But fortunately the car rentals (on site) are reasonably priced and that makes this a good spot to tour the large island from and do some major provisioning with access (via rental car) to stores and items you cannot get elsewhere in the Caribbean with most major US retailers having some sort of precense on the island.

Under rated marina, 2012-03-15
Captain: , Little River, SC (141)

2000 hr tow by Sea Tow due to loss of power mid Atlantic. Javiar, the owner personally ran the boat. Outstanding, to say the least.

Marina staff, the next morning, bent over backwards to complete the booking in process.

Moorage at $1.35/ ft for transient, good food. clean.

Half the the price of the BVI or USVI and twice the service.

Five thumbs up!!!!!

Three for Three, 2011-05-28
Captain: , Baddeck, Nova Scotia (160)

I hasve just recently completed my third haulout at Marina Puerto del Rey and continue to very very impressed with the level of professionalism by both the staff and the onsiote contractors. Every effort has been made to co-ordinate haul and launch schedules to my schedule. The equipment is well maintained and the availability of skilled tradesmen and nearby marine supplies have made each experience relatively painless and stress free. As an example of their accommodating nature, on our most recent visit we were launched late in the day and took longer than expected to restart one of our engines. Despite the fact that the fuel attendants were gone for the day the marina staff contacted the boatyard manager who returned and opened the refuel station so we could depart at first light the next day. Parcels delivered to the marina were delivered directly to the boat and despite a ten month interval between my last two visits staff remembered and addressed me by name.
A downside? Despite a large number of resident boats there is really very little social activity and the restruant is not suited to feeding working crew during the day necessitating trips off site to seek our cheap calories.

Favorable Impressions from a Brief Stay, 2011-05-18
Captain: , Seattle, WA (272)

We spent one night in the marina before hauling out at the boatyard and found the prices to be a bit high but the Marina was worth it from what we saw. The head facilities were clean and well kept though suffering from long term high moisture due to lack of ventilation. The golf cart service was prompt and the drivers were very courteous. We moored to an end tie so have no complaints about slip accessibility. The sea wall kept the water in the marina nearly flat during a severe thunderstorm that blew 6 boats onto the beach 4 miles away.

to big, no atmosphere, no place to stay. Cheap diesel.

Puerto del Rey, 2010-12-13
Captain: , Nanny Cay, BVI (11)

Transient slips NOT protected from Trade Winds. Maneuvering difficult as soon as winds 20k because of lack of space b/ pontoons. Lots of chop at berths. WiFi unreliable. Showers unusable (faucets taken off). Need a car for provisions.

Great facility, but...., 2009-06-03
Captain: , Barrington, RI (183)

Puerto del Ray is a great marina with modern facilities and is well maintained. The service my the marina staff is excellent. I would avoid the restaurant if you are on a budget (cheapest entree item is the $13 hamburger).

The approach to the marina from the South is well marked and simple.

I can also recommend chartering out of this marina....the firm at chartered us a 2008 Hunter 38 and it was one of the few Fajardo departures we could find.

Marina review, 2008-03-31

Puerto del Rey has good protection and good security, but is on the pricey side for the area.
