Reviews for Puerto Blanco Marina
Marina has potential , 2017-05-13

After staying in the marina my air conditioner would constantly shut down because of low voltage. This was because of the electrical wiring was undersized for the demand at the docks. They advertise WiFi, which 50 percent of the time is not working. As far as having warm water showers, or water pressure, well that is another debacle.

Now the good news. I have recently met the new owner and manager team. They came across very genuine and honest when they discussed there current plans and future plans to bring this marina up to great standards. They have done a great job on the restaurant which has not gone unnoticed in my eyes. They certainly have there work cut out for them with limited resources, and many adversities in many areas. I wish them the best and would love to come back next year to see the improvement that this town so desperately needs.

Handy Andy guided our boat in with his runabout. He arranged for the navy to check us in and took the Captain on the back of his motorcycle for the customs checkin. He can get you anything you need including tours, cars, taxi, parts, laundry or literally anything else.
Don't miss the waterfalls that you can slide down in Iberia. Mototaxi is 100 pesos or $2.25 each way to town and back. All-day car with driver is $20US. People are very friendly and like to touch a lot. Marina has one of the best restaurants in town. They let us keep a running tab and the staff is very nice. Takes USA cash but if using credit card the price is about double. New owner Carlos is redoing and building on. The docks are rough but he is continually trying to improve them. Drinking water is delivered in 5 gal jugs, dock water is no charge but is not drinkable. Fuel is carried to boat in 5 gal jugs. Cash machine is at the supermarket in town and takes USA debit cards. Bank next door gives best exchange rate from dollars to pesos. While there I met Bruce Van Sant who now lives there and eats at the marina every week. He is the author of the popular cruising guide PASSAGES SOUTH.
This is one of my favorite stops because unlike Bahamas, it feels like a foreign country with few cars, few tourists and most locals very friendly and not able to speak English. I did hear of an unlocked outboard being stolen off a dinghy recently. There is many anchored boats with a very friendly cruiser cummunity and free dinghy dock. I will return to this great place.

This is a great little marina, very accommodating, restaurant, wifi, shower. Handy Andy stopped by and can do/get anything for you at reasonable rates. Also, I don't know what others are complaining about - navy came to dock came on board looked at our paperwork. Later we went into customs, immigration, agriculture port operations and tourism. You might say, "Wow that's a lot!" It took about an hour total they are all together at the government dock. Only immigration wanted pesos but was fine with US dollars. All charges are listed on the outside of the building and no one tried to charge us extra for checking in on a weekend. The people are friendly and many speak English. Leo took over the marina 1 1/2 yrs ago and he is looking to add more docks and other things. Some others complained about the cold shower but it's so hot here why do you want a hot shower?? Prices at restaurant are VERY reasonable. We knew it was going to go well, after the boat was secured to the dock Miguel brought down 2 ice cold beers from beautiful restaurant.

This is a very quiet nice place to rest. Very friendly administration and a good restaurant. I would say best place for boaters in Luperón.

Proprieter Leo goes out of his way. He took us to customs and immigration, explaining the fees ahead of time to make sure we understood which ones were legit. The night we arrived, he personally prepared an awesome paia for our dinner, even though the marina's restaurant was technically closed that night. Leo is doing a great job of upgrading the marina. Overall, a really welcoming place to stay!

Leo is the host with the most in Luperon, 2015-12-23

We really appreciated docking at this Marina. Very convenient and safe for us. Good breeze here and so convenient to the nice patio area for lounging or dining. He has superior taste in good quality dining music. Leo is full of tasty dining surprises in addition to a very good menu. We enjoyed good breakfast, lunch and dinner over the months . Our favorite dining spot in Luperon. Good breeze and attractive decor. Very nice staff. Plus a big welcome to Miguel who is very accommodating like Leo. Leo is always adding a new special touch. His holiday decor was so charming it was hard to leave the festive atmosphere to continue our journey. Sunday's and Thursday's specials are very nice for cruisers. Leo personally makes the best pizza but it isn't on the menu. Try the gin and tonic for a pleasant surprise!

A breath of fresh air during our stay in Luperon, possibly our favorite anchorage in the DR. . Dinghy dock, great restaurant, clean facility and genuine staff(willing to help with a little Spanish if needed). Great place to chill and update weather info online. Night ambiance is relaxed and well lit. The current manager was very helpfull with travel plans inland and is a wealth of information on the country

Great Atmosphere, 2015-04-02

My wife and I have eaten dinner and breakfast here and now we have walked back from the beach and enjoyed the outdoor shower, have dry clothes on and are waiting for lunch while having a beer. The music is nice and the atmosphere works day or night. Food is good and reasonable. Leo and the rest are great. Others have covered the services, etc., so I want to say the place is charming. Love spending time here on their wifi and meeting other cruisers or having a romantic time with the admiral.

Leo has taken over the lease on the marina. He has cleaned up the dinghy dock and the shower. Still only one shower and it's still outside and still no hot water but it's all free to transients. He had put on a breakfast from 0800. Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, coffee and juice for 150DOP. Or about $3.00us. Pretty good eats. Free internet and comfy place to sit. All in all Leo is trying to make this as cruiser friendly as possible. It's still a long walk into town from here.

Sunday for cruisers, 2012-09-22
Captain: , Galena, MD (1856)

Sunday is the day the cruisers meet at the mairna, though you will find people there every day. On Sunday there is a flea market and locals/cruisers selling items worth owning. Nice T shirts, note cards and books by Bruce Van Sant, as well as boat items.
They provide a great BBQ lunch each Sunday and always a good crowd. They cater to the cruising group and strive to make your time here enjoyable. Always good cold beer and good conversation.
Most cruisers are anchored or moored in the harbor but this is the marina of choice for getting together.
