Reviews for Poughkeepsie Yacht Club
Welcoming, but rolly on the wekend, 2016-08-30
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (420)

The members of this member run club are very accomodating, but the loosely connected, guana covered docks are a challenge to walk when rocked by the frequent traffic waves. Good base for visiting FDR and Vanderbilt museums.

Great Value, 2016-07-02
Captain: , Charleston, SC (210)

A must stop. As a yacht club member, we try to visit other yacht clubs. PYC was a gem. Met by 4 persons to assist with docking. Very friendly and welcoming. Had drinks and desert with a number of club members. Visted each other boats and enjoyed each other's company. Docks can accomodate large vessels or use their mooring field. Club house offers drinks and a new friend. Whether you are a yacht club member or not, you will be welcome here. Make this a prefered stopover.

Great place , 2016-05-29

While returning to lake Champlain, we have rent a mooring ball from the club.
We had a shower, nice people's TI exchange with and free wifi access for 20$! I recommend and the view of the river is amazing!

What a Gem, 2015-07-01
Captain: , Eau Gallie, Florida (140)

We took a mooring ball for several nights, enjoyed the view and sunsets. The members of the yacht club are very friendly. They took us to the store and to the FDR Presidential museum. We did a hike along the river in Norri State Park. Norri Park is a short dingy ride. The members here take a lot of pride in helping the club and each other and it shows. They are especially outreaching to the transients and do all they can to make the stay memorable. They have a free laundry with a honor system donation can next to the washer. The bathrooms are neat and clean.
Some comments say the docks are in need of repair but we found them all in good shape and the members are diligent about making any needed repairs.
We had a great time here met many wonderful and interesting people.

Transient mooring, 2014-07-18
Captain: , Beverly, MA (40)

Took a transient mooring for 2 nights. No launch service, can dinghy in (use lots of bumpers). $20 per night plus tax. Good bathrooms. Area can get rocky when the tide changes. Very quiet at night after the trains stop; wonderful herons to watch. Need to be fully provisioned.

Friendly Stop, 2013-04-06
Captain: , Mimico Cruising Club ON Canada (1210)

We stopped here on our cruise from Toronto to NYC (both ways). Very friendly club. Not a lot of facilities, but we used the showers and the laundry. We were advised not to use the water to fill our tanks though. Good docks.

We were surprised, being from Lake Ontario, that Yacht Clubs along the Hudson River allow any visitors, not just those from clubs with reciprocal arrangements.

Watch out for lawn bombs from the Canada Geese.

Transient services, 2012-09-22
Captain: , Pelican Marina, Elizabeth City, NC (131)

Very helpful members. No ice or water at our slip...decent showers. Within walking distance to the Vanderbilt and Roosevelt homes ( 1.5 & 4.5 miles) Expoosed to the river, but convenient.

Very friendly member-run club., 2012-03-09
Captain: , Atlantic Highlands (214)

A good distance north of Poughkeepsie where they used to be. Friendly crowd, clean showers, and they let us use the gas grill one weekday evening. A LONG walk to the grocery store. I took a mooring and didn't use the dock-just rowed ashore.
Very quiet at night with lots of stars.

Old docks , nice people, some wake action, 2011-10-08
Captain: , Montreal (30)

We had a nice stay here last week. The docks at Poughkeepsie YC are rather old. Super nice people here. Docks and marina boats are affected by the wakes of passing vessels. Use caution when walking on the docks until wake action has passed and use lots of fenders. There is no wake or wind protection. Transportation is needed to get to local area The Club is actually located about 7 miles north of Poughkeepsie. Members are very nice here too.

Captain: , Lake in The Hills, Illinois (542)

Staff is extremely friendly. We were met by a member of the Yacht club who helped us tie up. Docks are old and the wake from the river creates a lot of movement. After dark things settle down and it is extremely quiet. The area is beautiful and it is a nice place to stop

Friendly, but facilities need updating, 2010-06-17
Captain: , Newport, RI (10275)

We last stayed here 2 years ago and the facilities have deteriotated since then, and as one of the club members said, they can't get anyone to do work. However, it's a beautiful place to stop. We picked up a mooring ball this year, which was much easier than puling into the dock with potentially 2+ kts of current.

The club members are very friendly and the bathrooms are OK.

Be sure to rent a car and explore the area. West Point is great as are teh Vanderbilt and FRD estates.

Friendly Yacht Club, 2009-07-26
Captain: , Aquia Harbour, VA (1177)

Docks are old, but in acceptable condition. As with many of the marinas along the Hudson River, docks and marina boats are affected by the wakes of passing vessels. Use caution when walking on the docks until wake action has passed and use lots of fenders. There is no wake or wind protection. Lots of attractions in the area, but transportation is needed. The Club is actually located about 7 miles north of Poughkeepsie. Members are very friendly. We would stay here again.
