Pro-Op message

Portside Marina is a full service marina located in Downtown Morehead City. We are the closest marina to the Beaufort Inlet and are located strategically at the end of the Morehead shipping channel, just north of ICW Mile Marker 205. Our deep water approach welcomes day and night travelers. We can even meet you after hours - call ahead to make arrangements.

We offer floating docks, non-ethanol fuels, free Wi-Fi, free laundry, loaner bikes, and more. Ask about our extended stay discounts.

There are great restaurants within easy walking distance to give the 'cook' a break. Check with our staff for restaurants that will even deliver to the boat. A large marine hardware store is also nearby.

Major grocery chains, West Marine, and Walmart are a short cab ride away. Special rates are available from a local motel - if the crew needs a break ashore or if you are meeting guests.

Our best amenity? Our friendly staff. We want to make sure your stay is great. Let us know how we can help.

Reviews for Portside Marina
knowledge !!, 2016-11-30
Captain: , Annapolis,MD (50)

We have stayed at Portside before, and respect the knowledge and help the staff provides, especially Denard ! We carry a full amount os freeboard, and not from a ripping current area, thus our ease with him directing the docking.
Sure be back in the spring.

Like Family, 2016-09-17
Captain: , Tampa, FL (40)

I am a professional yacht delivery captain and have stopped at this marina on a number of occasions with both power and sailing yachts. One thing has ALWAYS been consistent... Dr. Denard Harris and his staff. No matter what time of day or night I arrive, he always treats us as family coming to visit.

I doubt his treatment is because he said I remind him of his nephew, but as I see from other comments, he treats everyone well! The nearby restaurants have great food and the whole town seems to be filled with the nicest people I've encountered in my travels.

This marina is NOT a resort. It is a nice, clean "Mom n Pop" working marina with people who can help with any needs you have in the boating and provisioning realm! Stop in and say hello to "Uncle Denard!" :-)

capt jeff....thanks so much for the kind review...it is always neat to look up and see one of our favorite "nephews" standing at the counter....your look alike is robert harris ...who lives near lancaster pa....the next time in....we will pull up a picture of your double.....hope your trips are safe and "on time"....denard

Excellent!, 2016-07-04
Captain: , Cincinnati, OH (290)

Portside has become a regular fuel stop when we move along the East Coast. In our view, in many instances, the people make the marina. In the case of Portside, the staff and crew are absolutely great. Denard is knowledgeable of current/wind effects at his facility so with his direction docking is not a "white knuckle" affair.

We needed help with an electrical problem, and they were able to recommend an excellent resource (review separately) as well as fit us into their facility for 2 nights during the busy holiday weekend.

With their help, a potentially major headache was reduced to an annoyance.

Southern Hospitality, 2016-06-25
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (30)

Highly recommend Portside Marina because of the staffs hospitality, experience and knowledge. We sought shelter from high winds offshore in Beaford, NC. Denard, the owner/operator of Portside Marina allowed us to spend the day on the fuel dock and use of the facilities, which were excellent. The bathhouse and laundry area were modern, clean and well kept with adirondack chairs and a picnic table in the adjacent in the grassy lounging area. The staff was very responsive to our needs, calling taxis for us, facilitating discussion with experts who shared local knowledge and taking crew photographs.

Great Crew and Owner, 2016-06-16
Captain: , San Juan Capistrano, CA (20)

On our recent return to the US from the Bahamas we were told by Customs and Immigration to check into the Portside Marina for inspection. The staff and owner, Ed (Denard) could not have been more helpfull. They were there at the dock to help us with our lines and allowed us to remain at the dock as long as necessary. Ed even put some boarding steps alongside our boat so the customs lady could get aboard easily. She was impressed. No charge for any of this and Ed helped us with our lines again when we left. We can't comment on the facilities as we did not use them, but for customer service and friendliness Ed and his crew cannot be beat.

Denard all the way!, 2016-06-13
Captain: , Kemah (43)

Needed a place to stay for a few nights after sailing up from Charleston. Morehead City marina had space for 1, possibly 2 days, but no more as the big annual fishing tournament, "Big Rock", was kicking off that weekend. Some friends told us about Portside Marina and we called there to see if they had space for 3 nights. Denard, the owner, answered and told us we could stay for 3 nights and was concerned that we would not make it up there before TS Colin hit. He suggested that due to the currents we tied off to the new town docks until Colin passed through. As he also ran the town docks we were comfortable with is. We made it there at 10pm and were able to dock on the T-head without issue, despite the wind, rain and current. The next morning we got a call from Denard who picked us up and took us to a cafe, Grumpy's, for breakfast. He also took us to Portside Marina after breakfast so we could do laundry while waiting for the wind and rain to abate. Once Colin had passed we motored over to Portside Marina and stayed on the T-head there for the next three nights.
The Marina is clean and has free wifi, showers and laundry. The rate was $1.50 all in, tax and electricity, which you cannot beat. The floating docks themselves are a little run down but perfect safe and the attention of the staff more than made up for it. I would highly recommend a stay here while passing through Morehead.

What a great marina, 2016-06-13

Warm welcome after 5 days at Sea, 2016-05-22

We've stayed at Portside Marian many times because of the professional abilities and pleasant demeanor of the staff. This year we checked in with Immigration on our arrival back to the US. Denard is a gem.

A gem behind a commercial pier, 2016-05-02
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1211)

Snuggled at the end of a commercial pier there is plenty of water for access to Portside Marina. Owner Dr. Denard Harris, his wife, and their team provide one of the nicest and most welcoming facilities I have encountered. Delivery skippers encounter a lot of facilities. *grin* There are not a lot of slips so call ahead. The outer dock was damaged in recent storms and as of 1 May 2016 estimates are for completion of repairs in about six weeks. Note that the gas dock is alongside the western side of the launch well and the diesel dock is on the eastern side. The nominal diesel dock is very short but you can dock on either side of the tee dock and still reach your boat with the fuel hose. The staff here seem to have only two answers to questions: "Sure, I can help with that" and "I don't know - Denard will know how to help you."

In our case we arrived at 4.15am for fuel (priority) and some minor repairs before heading back offshore. We got fuel when the marina opened. Denard suggested we move to Morehead City Docks (which he is under contract to the City to manage) where day dockage is free and is right next door to Russell's Yacht Yard where we could borrow a bosun's chair. That worked out beautifully for us. Good advice from Denard.

If only I could give them 6 stars!, 2016-04-05
Captain: , New Bern, NC (10)

The folks at Portside Marina are amazing and the service and generosity is par none. Denard helped us when our engine got in a bind and made us feel like we were his top priority even though they were swamped with work. We really felt like family there... they even insisted we share their lunch! They ordered our parts from swansboro, and got us back on the ICW the next day. It is rare to find people like this in general. The rest of our trip to Wrightsville was a breeze thanks to them.

Great place to spend time., 2015-12-15
Captain: , Norfolk, Va (195)

Pulled in as weather was going to be bad. Denard and Ed were very helpful at the fuel dock and then at the t head. Denard came down evenings to make sure we were ok. Took us to the groery store and had a cab ride back. $7.50. Free laundry, good wifi. Quick stop within a short walk. Good directions to walking down town for resturants. Trash cans on the dock, emptied daily.
great place to visit.

A Great Man, 2015-12-09
Captain: , Saint Augustine, FL (439)

Between Halifax, NS and Coco FL, including 6 ICW transits, I have never met a friendlier, more helpful, or uplifting person than Denard. We pulled in on our second day out of the refit from hell and immediately confronted two unexpected nightmares on a cold and blustery day with driving rain. Fuel wouldn%u2019t go into the tank faster than about half a gallon a minute and our brand new cabin heater was spewing diesel fuel all over the salon floor. It could have been one of the worst days of my boating life but Denard%u2019s help and attitude turned it into a day I remember with pleasure. This is a place you make up a reason to stop or just stop because you can%u2019t pass without experiencing his joy of life.

I could almost call it home! , 2015-12-06
Captain: , West palm (10)

I had the fortunate pleasure of staying there. After a failed motor I was welcomed to Portside Marina to make those repairs myself. They opened their doors to me as if I was family. Have not come across this type of hospitality from any marina so far.
If you find yourself in the area for a night or a week stop in at Portside and enjoy.
Thank you guys so much!

Like visiting a great relative, 2015-11-30
Captain: , Middle River Maryland (30)

agree with all that has been said except pump out negative comment.
State of N.C. makes regs for this, not Denard. Not a rich state or area
so charge is Ok with me. The genuine kindness and support for what
you need are top shelf. If you are near when they eat lunch together,
usually at the marina, they set a plate and will feed you the best butter beans and fresh seafood for free. Denard sets the mark for
teaching all of us what family of the heart is all about. My wife and
I considered it a real gift to stay two days to wait out a storm.

Avoid City Slips, 2015-11-30
Captain: , Southport, ME, USA (1158)

This was a quick overnight stop for us, plus we were at the city slips, so really didn't experience the marina. However, we asked for an easy in/out slip since we would be departing at 04:00. They assigned us a slip with a wicked cross current that made entering and leaving very difficult.

Great location, nice people, easy in and out, 2015-11-13
Captain: , Marina del Rey (60)

We docked at Portside Marina earlier this month. The folks there were great and very helpful. The owner gave us a ride to the market so we could reprovision, and brought us oil in the morning for our boat. Docking was easy, and power/water readily available.
The laundry is free. Restrooms & Showers were clean. All in all, our stay at Portside was great. We only had one problem, and that was on Monday, when we arrived, they are very short staffed and we had a difficult time hailing them on the radio. Once we connected, everything was great.

Warm welcome here, 2015-11-09
Captain: , New bedford (122)

We arrived late after a long trip from Dowry Creek. Denard and his dockhands met us at the fuel dock and quickly secured us. Denard and his wife then met us in their store, and gave us enough fresh dorado, mullet and oysters to feed our hungry crew of four! While your mileage may vary, this will definitely be our place to hang out when entering or leaving the ditch.

One problem, 2015-11-04
Captain: , Newport (131)

Stopped there on a windy night in late October. Everything previously said is true BUT I felt ripped off because we were charged $20 for pump out..we have two small tanks, one was about 1/2 full and the other was maybe 1/4 at the most but we were charged $10 for each tank. Left a very bad feeling...

Great choice, 2015-11-04
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl. (71)

This was a last minute decision, for us, and the marina accommodated us, easily. Unbelievably friendly and well situated for restaurants and some shopping. I don't give many 5 star ratings but Portside deserves it.

This marina in one word: Character!, 2015-10-26
Captain: , Everett, WA (939)

The services here are okay. The diesel pump is a super max-flow job, so if you are a sailboat the pressure is high and you need a funnel to control it. The docks are okay, but you will get rocked by wakes from passing fishers and traffic headed up and down the ICW. However, I would not consider anywhere else to stop in MC. The folks here are friendly, helpful, giving, and have a great sense of humor. Going out of their way for the customer doesn't even describe it- they genuinely want to help you in whatever you need. If you have the time and can lend your ear, you might hear a good story or two to boot! Good folks- thanks again, Portside!

Denard sets the bar for hospitality on the ICW, 2015-10-21
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (173)

We came in on 10/20/15....as we approached the docks, our throttle cable broke....we coasted in, fortunately. Thanks to Denard the owner and the super nice folks at Portside Marine who not only found the part for us but gave me a ride to pick it up !!!! The bathrooms have a new enclosed area/lounge just outside, have new locks and a patio with nice furniture

Cordial, easy in & out., 2015-10-13
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Stayed night of 10-12-15. Floating docks, water at dock, Deanard was very hospitable including providing at 2 x 30 to 50 amp smart Y for my second 50 amp plug. Dock rent was $1.50 foot would return, lots of water depth at dock and easy in & out.

Great location, 2015-08-15
Captain: , Honolulu (531)

Stayed 7/30/15. Tied up just inside the face dock, lots of waking from passing commercial traffic. Friendly, service oriented, staff, real family atmosphere in the operation of this facility. Clean restrooms and showers, loaner bikes. Close to all of the restaurants in Morehead City.

Family owned and operated with love, 2015-06-24
Captain: , Miami (70)

Meet Deanard and his wife to solve any problem you may have. Has great knowledge of marine industry in area and even with our Italian yacht he was able to get us help.

Great as usual.., 2015-05-27
Captain: , Miami (293)

It's always hard to write a review of a place that consistently provides excellent service. Denard, his wife and team are low key, super helpful and just downright friendly. The reason for this review is just to give a shout out to the "new guy". Well done Nathan, looks like you will be a great addition to the team. I was even more impressed when Denard mentioned that you are a Purple Heart Recipient and an Iraqi vet, thank you for your service.

Super friendly staff, 2015-05-17
Captain: , Sarnia (371)

We stopped on May 6, 2015 for fuel and assigned a slip at the Municipal Marina at the other end of the harbour. The staff (3) were at the dock to help at the fuel dock then later drove down to the marina to help as well. There was light winds and current for easy docking.
The washrooms and showers are separate rooms and very clean. Lights on the dock need to be replaced and the motion detector in the washroom should be extended beyond 5 minutes. Due to TS Ana we were advised to move to the marina on the north side.

Great service, 2015-02-05
Captain: , United States (2513)

We made our second stay here in November, spending two nights to have Thanksgiving dinner. No staff on Thanksgiving when we arrived, and we had to tie to the face dock in 20 knots from the south. The wind bashed us into the dock pretty good until we could jam more fenders in place, and some exposed bolts scratched up our paint. Denard would not take anything from us for our stay after seeing the damage the next morning, and apoogized for the dock not being well fendered itself. Holiday dinner accross the street at Floyd's 1921 Restaurant was also excellent.

Awesome people, 2014-12-04
Captain: , Fort worth (172)

We stayed here in April of this year and I just realized I hadn't posted this. So here's the story.
It was 5 and we were about an hour out when I called to let them we were getting close. they said no problem they would be there until 6. Right after we heard a huge noise which we later found out was a crab trap being pulled up and hitting the hull. All I know is I thought we were sinking. After we realized we were ok I decided I had better call the marina to see where they wanted me to go since we would be coming in after they left. When I told them what had happened Denard told me to just go slow and he would stay to help me in. Well we ended up getting there at dusk. About 8 PM. Denard was on the dock and he was concerned that we might have enough damage that were wouldn't be maneuverable. Since he wasn't sure he had a TowUS boat right there in case we needed some nudging in. We got in with no problems and he said he'd have a diver there first thing.
The next morning the diver showed up at 8. He said our Spurs showed evidence of cutting and it looked recent. He said there was no damage so we were on our way by 8:30. Were were very new at that point and Denard was just great with us.
People this man is a class act. He stayed 2 hours after closing and has a support boat in the water just in case. That is WAY beyond the call of duty.
There are restaurants close by and the approach is a piece of cake. We didn't see much else since we weren't really there long enough to get an impression.

Good Stop !, 2014-11-26
Captain: , Bath, NC (40)

We stayed at Portside for the first time 11-22-14 and due to weather ended up staying 3 days. In our past cruises we always piut in at Beaufort, but not again. Steven the dock hand was very good / very helpful; then when we went to check in the owner, Denard Harris, greeted us and welcomed us. Immediately felt like we had been there before and had a new friend; we asked about lunch and Denard offered to show us around town which he did; awesome. a few days later my wife had her crown come off and he took us to the dentist. True the bathrooms/ showers are not the best but ok; we used ours on the boat; free washing/ drying with the 1 stacked unit. Overall really enjoyed being here and would recommend it; certainly cost wise it beats the heck out of Beaufort; the plus is the friendly atmoshpere as opposed to the folks at Beaufort - always in perpetual bad mood and their facilites are nothing to brag about given the high cost.
Try Portside !

Always a winner and we keep coming back UPDATE, 2014-11-20
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1101)

Update. We keep returning here (Nov 18 '14). Denard and his folks are the friendliest in Morehead City and the price is right. Very convenient. Right off the ICW and protected from all but S winds. Marina store has basic supplies and will take your old oil. Ask about the cherry TR4. We%u2019ll be back in the spring.

We arrived the day after Beryl. (several years ago) Cross winds sometimes exceeded 20 kts across the dock, yet these guys got us in despite gusts blowing us away from inside the T dock. The folks are very nice, very helpful, professional, and couldn't have been nicer. The morning and afternoon sport fish boats going by can make it a little lumpy, particularly if berthed on the outside of the T dock, but inside was OK. This is our second time stopping here over the past two years and we'll be back.

Nice Folks but Bouncy, 2014-10-07
Captain: , Jamestown, RI (80)

There are some nice touches, including a free washer and dryer and bicycles if you want to explore Morehead City or Beaufort. Very professional and accomodating staff. For example, they took my empty propane cylinder over to Beaufort for refilling at no charge (except for the propane).

But to echo what others have said, it's very bouncy, especially with a SW wind blowing at 20-25. I'm at the outer dock, but the Towboat inflatables on the inner slips are bouncing just as badly.

Andrea and Joe on feeling nauti, 2014-09-26
Captain: , Ellicott City MD (20)

At the end of a very long and windy day, Denard, and Kay made us feel welcome. Great restaurants nearby, and playful Shepard pup, and easy access.
Thanks again!

Great place, 2014-09-16
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (185)

Well groomed marina with helpful, knowledgable, and informative staff. Several good restaurants within walking distance. Only negative is the placement of their gas dock. (Diesel dock ok). Even with twin screws, my 36 footer had to be roped into place.

Rolly on the outside, 2014-09-12
Captain: , Raleigh (20)

This marina has a nice floating dock and the facilities were nice enough, but we were directed to the outside (southern side) of the t-head transient dock. We got tag teamed by a southerly breeze and wake from passing boats. Didn't prevent us from sleeping, though. The owner (I think?) was a nice guy and brought down an extra large fender that he tied horizontally to the dock so we didn't have to worry about our fenders popping out as we rolled. Location is pretty good - 5 minute walk to the bars and restaurants, but not particularly scenic because it is situated next to the shipping port. Reasonably priced - I think we paid $50ish for a 32' sailboat.

Great place to stop for awhile!, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Sanford, Fl. (887)

We stopped here to spend 2 days and ended up spending a week. Denard, Kay, Tanya, Ronnie and all the rest of the crew are really 1st class. They run a first class marina. I think customer service must be the crews middle name. We visited Beaufort on 2 days. It is a quick cab ride costing about $7-8 each way. We saved that much on dockage compared to Beaufort. It is a quick walk to several really good restaurants. Be sure to go to the Happy Cow for ice cream, the owner is a 16 year old girl. We will be back! The only down side is the lack of WIFI at the docks.

Great Stop and Staff, 2014-08-29
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

The only negative I have is getting waked by passing boats. Settles at noght, but the local law enforcement does not seem to care since they also rock the dock. Great town and stop, and we will be back. Marina owner is top drawer. If you draw 4', do not use the south entrance.

Nothing was too much trouble, 2014-08-26
Captain: , London, UK (336)

Modest charges, all the basic facilities, and an extremely friendly welcome was our experience. Denard and his team could not have been more helpful. We arrived in a brisk southerly and asked to go on the inside - no problem - we had two days alongside and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will return next season.

Great Folks and great stop!, 2014-08-20
Captain: , Lizella GA (1414)

I was having motor problems and stopped here. They were quick to respond and walk me into the slip. They looked up the part I needed and even told me how to install myself since it was an easy fix part replacement. The owners Denard and his wife and grand daughter were wonderful even having me sit down to lunch with them.

Coundn't be nicer, 2014-07-02
Captain: , West River (37)

Unable to make it through the bridge while NB on ICW at the end of April (extra high tides), we were welcomed in here to await lower tide. They suggested we grab breakfast up the block while we waited and would accept no money for the temporary dockage. True southern hospitality & graciousness!

disappointing stay for all, 2014-06-17
Captain: , Morehead City NC (42)

As a family owned and run marina we take great pride in trying to meet the expectations of all our boaters. We thank everyone who has acknowledged our hard work over the years with your kind words here. We are sorry that we fell short in meeting Mrs. Bearden's expectations. Unfortunately, Grand Rounds arrived at our facility at an unusual time when we were over our head with boats. A combination of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament bringing approximately 100 additional boats and several boaters unable to leave our docks due to mechanical problems we found ourselves with no place to put Grand Rounds. As we scrambled to find space patience began to fray on both sides. We are most apologetic that the Beardens did not experience the high level of service that we strive to provide. We will use the lessons learned to continue to improve our marina and hope that the Beardens will decide to give us another try in the future.

Friendly Dockmaster, 2014-06-07
Captain: , Aventura, Florida (330)

Denard is quite a friendly guy. He helped me with some local knowledge as we had to go up the intracoastal due to weather. The price was great and included electric. We stopped at 7pm and left at 5am as we were tired from getting pounded I cant tell you how close it is to anything in town. Nice floating dock.

Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (215)

We ended up here after getting beat up in a storm while heading North on the outside. Pulled in at 4:30 am and out by 11am. Very nice people, very clean facilities. I had never tried the inside ICW and they were very helpfull in getting me routed. They will become a regular stop.

Excellent choice, 2014-04-25
Captain: , Hampton, VA (90)

We had to go in for a repair, actually replacement of a water tank. The staff was friendly, accomodating and just plain overall nice people. Doc Denard even came out early in the morning to see us off when we left. I highly recommend it.

We had to stop on the way back north for a repair and to sit out the weather. Derek Beckman, who is not an employee but highly recommended by Dr Denard, did an excellent job. I would also highly recommend him.

Captain: , El Dorado Hills (53)

Don't understand why previous ratings were so high. Definitely NOT a 4 star marina. The Transient dock does not get good wi-fi, cable TV is snowy and while washer & dryer are free, they are located out in the elements. We are on outside of Transient dock and wind has us rocking and rolling.

Great place to wait out the weather, 2014-03-25
Captain: , Edmonton (279)

Denard (the owner) and his crew are awesome - very friendly and extremely helpful. There are loads of restaurants and a well-stocked marine supply store within walking distance. Washrooms/showers were in good shape, although one shower was too small. Free laundry (one machine, cold water only) is a bonus. Would have been 5 stars but grocery stores, Walmart, West Marine, Lowes are about 6 miles away, and it can get pretty bouncy at the dock when the wind gets up. There aren't many transient slips, so make sure to call ahead. It's convenient to the ICW from either direction or Beaufort Inlet and the approach is deep and wide, so you couldn't go aground if you tried.

Must Stop Marina, 2014-03-04
Captain: , Middle River, MD (354)

Stopped here on our way north, suffering from record lowes in early March. Not only did we have three dock hands out to greet us but Denard made their office lunch table available to us to warm up and "compute". As if that were not enough, Denard offerred snack crackers and humace to fuel us up. This is North Carolina hospitality at it's very best.

If you need a repair, Denard is the man to see...., 2014-01-20
Captain: , Cape Canaveral, FL (100)

Came in after a tussle with the jet stream, Denard was at the dock at 10 pm to catch us and back the next day with a list of ppl who could help fix our wounds. Very happy with the facility, the staff and the work.

Great Stay 5 January 2014, 2014-01-10
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (280)

Spent two nights here riding out the arctic cold front. Very accommodating even after we were completely tied up at the fuel dock and I realized we were at the diesel pumps.

We moved, fueled and settled in for our stay. Our new location was more inside and it still was a bit uncomfortable with the strong SW winds prefrontal. After the wind shift well protected.

Denard was very nice and helpful. He gave us a quick tour of the area and was available if we needed anything.

Great Marina and Owner!, 2013-12-29
Captain: , Vance,Texas (70)

Only bad thing I can say is it is a little noisy. Leonard (The Owner) will make sure you have a wonderful stay. On the Morehead City docks close to several cafes and bars. Also near Ace for marine supplies.

Stayed Just for a Night, 2013-12-16
Captain: , Crockett (610)

Very helpful folks at the dock during a bit of an embarassing docking show! We were being pushed of the dock in 25+ winds and had a rough time getting dockside, but hands were helpful and understanding.

Not the greatest view from our slip, but easy walking into Moorehead City

Good port in a storm, 2013-12-11
Captain: , New Bern, NC (466)

My crew was severely debilitated by sea sickness, the wind was more than the crew could handle the sails in and the motor quit in the channel; not cool. BoatUS took us in tow and delivered us to Portside Marina. We were welcomed to this family run marina with capable line handlers, information on who to talk to about getting our diesel looked at and an invitation to join in their Memorial Day barbeque. The next day I got free coffee, help obtaining parts for my engine, and fuel to top off my tanks. The gracious attention I received was extraordinary considering it was the height of their Memorial Day activities. All in all I%u2019d welcome the chance to visit this working marina again just to enjoy the warm and friendly experience.

Stopped for the night on my way south, 12/3/13. As always a treat. Enjoyed the free breakfast and coffee.

Easy deep water entry to the docks, Staff was fantastic, and eager to help.

What a nice place, 2013-11-09
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (1100)

Denard and Kaye with the help of Ronnie make this place a great place to visit. I felt like I had known them for years after just a few minutes. Great prices, easy in and out and the friendliest people anywhere. Yes it's in an industrial area and no it's not a resort but a few short blocks away are great eateries and shops. No real grocery store just a gas station mini mart so plan accordingly.

Why would anyone go to Beaufort?, 2013-11-05
Captain: , Edenton, NC (887)

Nov '13 update: Simply excellent. Why would anyone go to Beaufort to be overcharged for less. Slips are less, current is less, power is included and the washer/dryer are free and the service couldn't be better. And the selection of eating places is just as good. Only slight comment is that the wifi could be a little stronger. We'll never go to Beaufort again with Portside available.

We stayed three nights in Portside Marina due to a forecast low which would ultimately bring north winds gusting to 50mph. Excellent folks, super service and a better price than Beaufort Town Docks. Watched Denard and his crew bring tardy seamen into slips in truly dramatic conditions, expertly done with no crunches. Denard's calm demeanor really shined through. Also we recommend Floyd's 1921 for an great meal, about three short blocks walk.
All this said, would not be here in a southerly blow as the fetch would probably be unhappy. This is now our stop in this area.

Portside Marina, 2013-10-29
Captain: , Manalapan, N (107)

We stayed her overnight and it was fine. We were on the inside of the face dock and the only problem was that it was a little rocky when boats passed. It is close to many restaurants. There are no grocery stores around but you can find some foods at the Hess station.

First time here - will definitely return, 2013-10-22
Captain: , Michigan (583)

Stopped here because it is closer to the ICW and is a great place to start for Mile Hammock in the morning. Excellent staff and rates. Privacy in the showers - laundry included in rates. We visited the Sanitary Restaurant just down the street - delicious! Note: the Beaufort Grocery at 913 Arendell wasn't open but it is available to rent....found bread and milk at the gas station instead.

Great Marina!, 2013-10-07

Great folks, noisy neighborhood, 2013-10-01
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (1187)

Super friendly staff. Were there to catch our lines, with a fender, when we pulled in for fuel, and again when we moved to our slip!

Bikes are really helpful to get around. There is a sandy island across the marina where the dogs can play off leash.

Only negative is the busy Port of North Carolina next door.

Beyond our expectations, 2013-09-24
Captain: , Cincinnati, Oh. (140)

We pulled in to another marina and they wanted $2.00 per foot but offered nothing. Checking with Active Captain we immediatly untied and visited Portside Marina. Wow what a wonderfull visit. When we arriver thay had fenders out and the boarding steps. Gave us a delightfull overview of the town. Wife visited the bakery and we had dinner in town. Only a few blocks from the marina.

A very pleasant stay, 2013-08-25
Captain: , Nashville (30)

We had read the reviews on Portside Marina so it was a no brainer to dock here when the opportunity arose. We were not disappointed in the least. Denard made us feel quite at home and offered advice on local places to eat ad shop. I had problems with our house battery bank for several weeks. It came as no surprise that after seven years of use knew they would likely have to be replaced. I asked Denard for his recommendation on someone technically capable of providing this type of support. He quickly recommended Derek Beckman, a self employed technician specializing in electrical, refrigeration and air conditioning services. I had ordered 6 Lifeline batteries on line. after Derek's initial assessment. The order arrived on Thursday and Derek showed up promptly at 0800 on Friday morning as promised. With exemplary professionalism Derek had us up and running in 6 hours. I was very impressed with Derek's work ethic and very pleased with his reasonable rates. If I need his type of services again I will most certainly make a concerted effort to engage him once again. Of course staying at Portside Marina would be nice agsin as well.

Stopped for a day -- stayed for a week., 2013-07-07
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (93)

Such wonderful folks at this marina. Denard made us feel so welcome, and when we asked if we could say a bit longer he gave me a great big smile and said "we never turn anyone away!". He was chatty. helpful and gave us lots of advice about local places.

There are bars and restaurants a very short walk and there's a great supermarket a couple of miles to the west. You can borrow bikes with baskets, and you get a workout and provision at the same time! Just take Bridges St which parallels the main road and is much quieter.

Interesting stop, 2013-06-28
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (328)

The owners of this marina are Denard and Kay. If your schedule permits you MUST stop and "visit" with them. Denard is THE friendliest guy you've ever met. He will go way out of this way to make your stay comfortable. The marina is limited in it's facilities and the town has little to offer but Denard and his wife are charming.

Delightful folks run this marina, 2013-06-24
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1135)

If you'd like some really nice folks to work with...this is a wonderful marina. The heads are fine and it's a little rolly but the folks here are just wonderful. There are tons of restarrants just a short walk and it's priced right.

THE Urgent Care boat facility, 2013-06-09
Captain: , Clearwater Beach (10)

A great Cape Lookout stay was almost ruined when we got ready to pull anchor and the old perkins wouldn't start. I called Towboat US and then had to figure out where to be towed to on a Sunday. Denard at Portside Marina said he'd help find someone and sure enough his tip led me to Andrew at A-1 Marine Diesel Services. It turns out the Towboat US boats are even based there. Nice people. Great stop when we needed it. Andrew came on Sunday and diagnosed and fixed us within 30 minutes. I highly recommend both Portside and Andrew.

Helpful and very friendly, 2013-06-03
Captain: , Mullica Hill, NJ (688)

The marina is very convenient to the ICW.
We told them we might not arrive until 1900 and were given all of the docking information as they would be home with thier feet up drinking a glass of wine. Well .. Denard was waiting at the dock to make sure we were tied up and comfortable. We had paid in advance so it wasn't the payment, it was just the plain old hospitality of the place.
About 5 Restaurants within 5 blocks.
Great stop, we will be back.

Wonderful Marina, 2013-05-29
Captain: , Port Royal, SC (231)

Denard and his crew could not be any more hospitable then they are. Stayed for 2 days to do an oil change. They loaned me equipment when my onboard pump out didn't work and accepted the waste oil and filters. Nice facility with clean heads, and a very short walk to a number of resturants, as well as an ACE Rigging Supply Co that puts West Marine and others to shame.

Much safer docking here than in the high currents of Beaufort, 2013-05-20
Captain: , Hartfield (281)

Because this marina is partially protected by its location and has a large turning area before you enter the marina it is much safer to get into in weather than any other marina along the two waterfronts of Beaufort and Morehead City. Plus, Denard and his crew are fantastic! The bathrooms, though not huge are immaculate and the small washer/dryer is free.

If you've never been to Beaufort and want to see it and the weather is good and the current is slack, then by all means try the Beaufort Town Docks, but for any other reason, this is the place to be.

Great people, 2013-05-06
Captain: , Longboat Key (110)

We were not crazy about the noise from a container ship unloading next to the marina in the evening but the marina was convenient and the staff were amazing. The warm welcome, wealth of knowledge of the area and the convenience of being able to walk to town more than made up for being beside a working port.

Denard and Kay Harris run a first class o[peration, 2013-05-05
Captain: , Lillington, NC (10)

You absolutely will not find better people in the area. They are willing to help, a wealth of local knowledge, and just simply some of the finest people I think you will ever come across. Portside will be a regular stop for us anytime we are in the area, if for nothing more than just to stop by and say hello. Good people deserve our business.

The best marina, 2013-05-01

Denard was awesome so was the marina. This was one the top 5 marinas we came across on our East Coast sailing adventure. We recommend this marina!

Great Place to Rest and Relax, 2013-04-27
Captain: , Mound (10)

We stopped at Portside Marina to wait for good weather to cross the big water to the north and were amazed at the hospitality. Portside is a great family run marina. This was the first marina in eight months of travel where the the harbormaster - Denard - helped dock our boat, greeted us at the dock and shook our hands. Talk about southern hospitality. They don't have a courtesy car but have several bikes you can use to explore the area. There are many restaurants within a short walking distance. Try Georgia B's a few blocks away for a great breakfast - the outside doesn't look like much but the inside is nice and the food is great. Beaufort is only 2 miles away. We had a mishap with our outboard and Denard got it into his shop and fixed within 24 hours. We will be back if we are lucky enough to travel through this area again.

Good place to weather in, 2013-04-22
Captain: , Spring Lake, MI (379)

We anchored at Beaufort and spent a day, but when high winds came in, we backtracked 3 miles to Portside Marina, which cost much less than the Beaufort Marina, was closer to a rental car agency, and just a short walk to restaurants. Denard, the owner, met us and helped us dock. He is good old southern friendly and helpful, and made our stay very comfortable. There is a lounge, clean showers, free laundry, bikes, a loner car, and no extra charge for electricity. This is a small marina, but a good safe place to stop, and the owner and staff are top notch. There is some current there and the owner will help you in and out.

M/V Michelle at Portside, 2013-04-14
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (40)

We spent two nights here and the people could not have been more friendly and helpful with everythng we needed.

The tie-up was a little confusing because, according to what we saw on Active Captian's imagery it looks as though there should be one long t-dock. However, half of that dock belongs to a private condo and that confused us at first.

A number of good restaurants are within walking distance and the dolphin show that we watched from the bow of our boat was amazing.

We highly recommend this marina as a stop-over place.

Revised Review, 2013-02-01
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (152)

I originally rated Portside much lower. The folks there are very friendly and helpful. It's located right next to large commerial port activity and the ambiance (and noise level) is not what we expected. However, we had just left Harbour Town Marina at Hilton Head which is hard to top. Fuel (diesel) price and dockage fees were reasonable. They operate a large boatel and appear to do a lot of service work if you have the need.

If we are in the area again, I think we would stay a the Morehead City Yacht Basin.

Wonderful place, 2013-01-09
Captain: , Cuckoo, Va. (30)

Came in for fuel and a one night stay. The weather changed so I'm staying longer. I started out impressed. I pulled into the fuel dock and was greeted by a very knowledgeable guy that help me dock as I am a single hander, tied my lines, no rush no fuss. Handed me the diesel and when I was done I noticed a water hose hanging off the bow life line. He said thought you might like to hose your deck down I see you been anchoring. this family owned marina is so very boater friendly. Nice clean bath rooms, free laundry, and welcoming staff/family. That evening I was in there little store and the owner brought over some salsa and chips then later on is way home he drop me off at a really great restaurant Ruddy Duck Tavern(2 blocks away). I was going to give them 4 stars because of their small size, but they make up for that with there big service. well worth the stop.

Great Location and Great People, 2012-12-04
Captain: , Washington, DC (435)

This family run marina and service facility is hard to beat. Just off the Beaufort/Morehead City Inlet, they have good floating docks, outstanding dock crew, and wonderful hospitality. They also have very fresh diesel and ethanol free gasoline. They actually have a fuel truck that they pump diesel out of (no underground tank) so the fuel is very fresh. We'd plan our next transit around staying there... lower price than Beaufort as well!

Deep water in ICW context, 2012-12-02

Good place to stay. Slips are in line with tidal flow. Bit of wash from passing boats. A working yard so you can get things done. Reasonable rates. I will come again.

Cant beleive I had not already rated this, 2012-11-28
Captain: , Great Falls, VA (1092)

Portside Marina has become one of my "must do" stops in recent years. I thought I had already reveiwed it but I cannot see it here. Before a couple years ago I used to either stop in Beaufort (when I felt rich enough to do so) or breeze through this entire area. A couple years ago some bad timing on my part forced me to find a place to stop here, and thus I found Portside.

As already mentioned by nearly all the reviews, the staff here is nothing short of wonderful. You will simply not meet friendlier people anywhere. Its a true family run buisness, the man grabbing your dockline is the owner, his wife and daughter are in the office.

This is the only place I have ever been where the marina puts out their own fenders for you. Depending on current docking can be tricky anywhere other then the outside dock. But I stayed several days once and had to move to accomidate a small ship that needed the face dock. There was no end of help and patience in getting me to an interior slip.

There is a great and interesting local chandlery a couple blocks away. You may not find the latest chartplotter there, but you will find things west marine wont carry. A convience store is about a block away for basic provisioning. West Marine and large groceries are beyond walking distance, but time permitting the staff will give you a lift or you can take a cab.

Lots of restraunts within walking distance, each time through I have eaten at a different place and have always been pleased.

Showers and restrooms are basic but more then adequate, the water is hot and they are clean. The laundry is FREE, but its only one washer and dryer, so be considerate, dont stick a load in then run off to do 2 hours of errands, other people need to use it too.

The owners are in the process of adding a lot of new things, including a lounge and new ships store.

Sure, pay $3/foot to visit Beaufot for a day your first time through, but after that pay half and get real southern hospitality in bucketloads. If you dont hang out up at the office and chat with these people for awhile you have missed a lot of what you thought you went cruising for. It may not be a resort facility, but I will take it over any impersonal resort any day.

Captain: , holland, mi (132)

Stayed for three nights 11/15. What a great staff. Denard was right there to dock us. Very friendly group. We rented a car and toured the area. Morehead City is a large town with all the amenities. And don't miss the Ruddy Duck.

Great Staff, 2012-11-19
Captain: , Fort Pierce Florida (300)

Working marina with large dry stack building, some floating docks and not much else. Rest rooms are pretty spartan. Staff was great and Denton is one of the nicest guys we've met in any marina. Tried to buy fuel but the pump was broken. Great location mear several restaurants, don't miss the Ruddy Duck.

Super people with great attitude and help. Very friendly. They will
meet you with three people to help tie you up and connect your power. We had a problem with our steering and they arranged for

Stayed here for 3 days, because we had some Maintenance and Repairs to do. Very friendly and helpful people here - we have been impressed. They help with docking and everthing else. They ordered us a new wipper motor and actualy got it to us the same day, we needed new batteries and the installed them the same day. These People know what they talking about. Free Laundry, loaner bikes and power. If you stay more then one day they give you a discount of $10 daily as well - the rate is great at $1.50 ft for floating docks. Will stay here again any time we pass through!!!

Denard to the rescue! Awesome location and service you can't beat, 2012-07-12
Captain: , Waynesboro PA (10)

My family an I ran into trouble during a storm in June with sustained winds over 30 knots. The boat lost its rudder. The Portside was right in front of me but I couldn't get there. We called them and even though they are normally closed on Mondays. Denard, the ower answered the phone. He said he would come and see if he could help.
He came out to the dock and through my manuevering in circles I got close enough for him to throw me a line. We managed to get boat in to the marina. With Denard's knowledge of boats and mechanics we realized that the steering had bigger issues.
We stayed at the marina for the rest of the week and had a wonderful time. Denard an Kay are wonderful hosts and are knowldegeable about the local area and who to use to get it fixed right.
We are already planning our next trip to the Portside Marina

Great stop!, 2012-07-02
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (200)

Denard will go out of his way in any way neccessary to make sure that your visit here is perfect. Their marina is just adjacent to the ship channel. Access is easy even in the middle of the night from seaward. I don't miss this one.

Excellent Dockmaster, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

Denard was there to assist us in with instructions over the radio as to how we should approach given the strong incoming tide and winds. When he says "to approach from under the large red crane" he is being literal! Continue along the concrete wall to the west until you are literally under the red crane, make a hard turn to port and then approach the fuel dock (easiest place to dock in the whole marina!).

We spent the night and Denard assured us we need not be in a hurry to leave the next morning. His recommendation for a diner was excellent - just ask him where it is. Not much right there at the marina but with bikes (either your own or a loaner) it is an enjoyable ride along the main drag.

A plus was the Coast Guard Aux was there in the morning and we were able to have an inspection completed. Once this was done and we passed, they affixed a sticker to the boat indicating the successful completion of an inspection. Hopefully this will satisfy any Coast Guard looking to stop us for an inspection!

30kt docking- a lesson learned, 2012-05-31
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (160)

We arrived from Hammock Bay at 12.38 in the midst of 30kt winds and rain....[Beryl] water was washing over the floating dock, the owner and four others were at times struggling to maintain their balance on the wet dock surface...we approached three times, the third time we got a line to them which they cleated down and we were able to power in and get a second line to them... If not for the cheery, calm directions of the owner/dockmaster things could have been costly...eventually through the efforts of five people we made it to the floating dock which they had prepared by laying oversized bumper cushions along the dock for the boat .The help of these five fine people who dared the elements was invaluable. Hats off to a great marina.
Lesson Learned: Do not put yourself in a position where this happens again.

Happy to make a recommendation!, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Saugatuck, MI (144)

Arrived at this marina very late, but Denard & his associate were there to help. He wanted to put us at an affiliated marina a little further south of Portside Marina. We tried, but the wind & current were so strong I feared damaging the boat trying to dock. Denard moved us to Portside Marina. We stayed outside the T, knowing that strong winds would probably give us a little jolt & they did. Denard was courteous, accommodating, and as welcoming as anyone we've encountered. If you arrive with blustery winds, the wind and the strong current can make dockage in this entire area challenging. The hospitable Portside Marina staff and the docking help are to be commended & appreciated.

Very Nice Stay Wtih Difficult Conditions, 2012-04-27
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1777)

This review is all good. Denard, Kay and everyone at the marina are incredibly nice and accomadating. Morehead City is a nice town but you need either to rent a car, take a cab or use one of the marina bikes because all of the town's services are east of downtown by a few miles.
We arrived on4/25/2012 in tough wind conditions. (I have seen a few other submitters mention it too.) They got us to a facing dock with no problem. 4/26 was incredibly rough to the extent we had to go ashore. Denard made sure to check on us to make sure all was ok. He keeps a keen eye on all of the boats.
The only thing that prevents this being a five star rating (On the hospitality alone.) is that they do not have a pump out at this time. Something is in the works.
BTW- GO EAT AT FLOYDS 1921 restaurant. Awesome. Ruddy Duck tavern was good too.
Why aren't there any donut shops in any of these seaside towns? Just asking.

Portside marina, 2012-04-20
Captain: , New York (483)

This is a very freindly marina and recommend it. Not the biggest or fanciest but Denard and Kay are great. Also - go to the nearby bakery of Brett and Alec for their eclaires. Good nearby resturants.

Feel like family at Portside Marina!, 2012-04-13
Captain: , Sarasota, Florida (10)

We would like to give a big shout out for Portside Marina in Morehead City, NC. Owners, Denard Harris and his wife, Kate, have gone way above and beyond to make our stay memorable. We were given a ride to West Marine and nearby grocery and stores. If you need engine or fiberglass repair, this is the place to stop! High winds and cold temperatures held us in Morehead City for three days, so we rented a car and toured New Bern and Beaufort, NC %u2013 both places well worth the time. Ferry access to Harkers Island, Shackleford Banks and Ocracoke is available. But what really makes Portside Marina special is Denard who makes you feel like family as soon as he takes your lines. His great-grandfather fought in the famous eleven hour battle at Fort Macon in 1862, which is just over the bridge from Morehead City %u2013 another must see while in this area. One last note . . . laundry is FREE!

A must stay at Marina, 2012-04-08

Great facilities and friendly service. Stay and say Hi to Denard and Kay. Tell them Plan B sent you.

Solid marina, 2012-03-23
Captain: , N Fort Myers, Florida (516)

The docks are a little rough, but solid. One washer, one dryer, showers and restroom, but no pumpout. The owner is great. He and a helper help you get into your slip, and they even put their fenders out on the dock, and provided stairs to get off the boat. He went out of his way helping us get settled. They have good, free WIFI, and cable, although the cable is on and off according to the office. It wasn't working when we were there.

Mind the Wind and Tide and Time of Day, 2012-02-06
Captain: , Vero Beach (527)

The people who run this place are delightful. I left the office with a smile on my face from the pleasure of their company.

In a wind with any south in it, during spring tides, in early morning or late evening, being tied alongside at the eastern end of the transient dock is not delightful. The combination of chop, current and fishing boat wakes is pretty intense under these conditions. It looks sheltered fron the S&E, but swell curls around the industrial dock to the east. We would stay here again but with winds from W to NNE.

Just be mindful of the environmental factors.

Excellemce, 2012-01-28
Captain: , Harveys Lake, PA (100)

Excellent marina. Great servicw. Free use of washing machine nut please, dont take advantage. Denard was fantastic along with the rest of his family. His merchanic diagnosed several problems for me right on the spot. I registered a 43.7 MPH winds and I was glad to be there. He had extra lines set at every dock and I needed every one. Great family run marina. They pride themselves on being boaters who take care of boaters. They certainly lived up to that without question. I highly recommend them over all other marinas in the area whoi I might add, I visited and there is no comparision. I have no personal or business relationship with them at all.

Amazing Service!, 2012-01-17

Wow, what a difference great service makes. We visited for the first time after a long run from Hampton, Va. When I asked how late the fuel docks would be open that day, Denard (the owner) replied, "I'll won't leave until you are here". Not only was he there when we arrived at 5:30pm but he had activated the winterized water line so we could rinse the ocean from our boat. I didn't ask for it, he just anticipated the need. Now that is great service!

Nice family run marina! Free power and laundry, no pool! Only complaint is we were on the outside of thefloating dock so a fair number of wakes

Nice Place, 2011-12-08
Captain: , Solomons, MD (464)

Nothing to add to previous reviews except (which has nothing to do with the marina or facilities) that when tied to the outside face dock you'll get waked by inconsiderate boaters. If considerable winds from the south predicted, do not use outside face dock. We were here 12/8/2011 with predicted 25-35 mph winds and we got hammered. The gusts were considerably more. In side slips were fine.

WiFi does not reach the outside dock.

great welcome, 2011-11-29

Great welcome after a long day. Excellent service and no hassle stay. Denard and crew are absolute professionals and made our stay relaxing and easy. Highly recommend this facility and we'd visit again if ever we pass this way again. Felt like family.

A must stop at MM205..., 2011-11-08
Captain: , Castine, ME (59082)

You just can't beat this location for convenience, friendliness, and restaurants. We've been stopping here for 9 years now. It's right at MM205 and convenient for both ICW and offshore starts and stops.

All the restaurants of Morehead City are walking distance - and they are fantastic. Ask Denard for the menu from the Italian place that delivers to your boat.

You always get help docking and undocking. Their fuel price is pretty good. They have in-house repair services and know everyone in the area. If you're having any problems, this is a great place to stop to have them taken care of.

Denard is a wonderful host. He makes Portside a quality, family run business. It's the type if place you want to keep coming back to.

One of best stops on ICW , 2011-11-08

Great folks,Lost my glasses putting out lines, they found an opthamologist that had a lab in house, loaned me a car and saved the day.Denard is a great fellow , and I would highly recommend portside marina.

Portside-A nice stop, 2011-10-26
Captain: , Branford, CT (910)

Easy in-out. Very friendly staff. Competitive rates. We left too early to get the complimentary newspaper. We'll stop again. Navy vessels 300 feet away. The sentries with machine guns did not wave back....

Nice marina, 2011-10-21
Captain: , Daytona Beach, FL (100)

Today we stayed at Portside Marina. The owner Denard is really cool guy. Offered us help and local knowledge we needed. The marina is not expensive and is clean. Used their laundry facility. Washer had only cold water while the water heater was right behind it. Kinda fun. If we come back thru here again, we will choose this marina again.

Marina evaluation, 2011-07-20
Captain: , Dover, Delaware (30)

Portside Marina is owned and operated by Denard and Kay Harris. They both work hard to meet the needs of transient boaters. The marina is nest door to a fine seafood restaurant. My wife and I make this stop a must on our trips up and down the coast.

Excellent Facilities, 2011-06-21
Captain: , Kemah, TX (230)

The owner of the place was just as quick to come out and help us with lines. This quaint marina turned out to be a real gem.

Close to everything, 2011-06-18
Captain: , Gloucester, VA (514)

There was a bit of confusion as we were arriving. We had called ahead the day before to make reservations and a good thing because the Blue Marlin Festival was in its final two days and the place was hopping. There were so many boats in the waters around that ya could walk from the marina to Sugar Loaf without getting your feet wet!

Scottie greeted us at the pier and helped tie-up. He was a wealth of information as to places to eat etc.

Bath house needs to be air conditioned and tended to more often (no toilet paper).
Over all we are pleased with the facility and found the owners to be very hospitable and ya can%u2019t beat the all inclusive price of $1.50/ft w/elect. and water.

Very friendly & helpful, 2011-06-05
Captain: , Warsaw, Ky (875)

Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. We stayed 2 nights. Family owned byr Denard and Kay Harris and are on site daily.

Staff recommends a number of restaurants to pick from. Restaurants are within 3 - 4 blocks and are good. Be sure to try the Ruddy Duck. And the local ice cream parlor. Both are very good and also good values.

Owner offered ride to grocery.

Can get a bit bumpy on the face dock in windy conditions.

Good stop, easy in and out., 2011-06-03
Captain: , Madison, Ohio (400)

Very friendly and helpful staff, convenient to town and multiple places to eat. Owner even offered a ride to the local grocery. Do not enter from the southern entrance Chanel, it is shoaled in. To bad there are not more slips available inside, wakes can be annoying in the AM on the face dock.

Very Friendly, 2011-05-09
Captain: , Marathon, FL (458)

This marina is very easy to get to off of the ICW and it is family owned and very friendly. They will help you with anything you need. We will definitely stop here on the way back down in the fall.

Portside Marina, 2011-05-07
Captain: , West Chester, PA (20)

A great place. Easy access for a sail boat or power. Great folks who gave us a quick tour of the town. Worth a stop, which we'll do again in the fall on our way south.

PortSide Marina (April 2011), 2011-04-26
Captain: , Richmond VA (281)

Portside was one of the friendliest places I have docked during my cruising the Great Loop. It is owner operated and all the staff will bend over backward to help you out. They do not have a courtesy car (thus only the 4 stars) but will give you rides to places for shopping and errors. Most of what you will need is about 5 miles away and a cab cost between 9-11 dollars. Portside pointed me toward great A/C repairman, and helped me fix a water pipe burst. I was there during the huge storm that wreaked havoc all over the Carolina%u2019s, one of the marina personnel came by mid storm to check on us and offer the office / boatel as a place to go if it got any worse. I know that the next time I come though Moorhead City I will be using Portside again.

Outstanding Service, 2011-04-10
Captain: , Occoquan, VA (456)

Our arrival was met by three folks to help with lines. And, this was just the beginning. We were offered transportation to go grocery shopping. We were offered bicycles to wander around town. We have the owner's home phone number in case we need something in the middle of the night. And, the list goes on.

We are side tied on the inside of a floating dock and numerous dolphins are playing on the other side. Restaurants within walking distance.

We would definitely stay here again!

Broke down, 2010-12-09
Captain: , Broken Arrow, OK (10)

Great staff! Easy in, easy out. Great service great prices! Floating docks in good shape good showers good store. Lots of help to us. They could not have been nicer or more helpful.

too cold to move on, 2010-12-05
Captain: , Hertford,NC (180)

Aging facility. Owner was very personable and full of useful information, but the location leaves alot to be desired. Waves and wakes are awful. Although we were there in NW 20-30 kt winds. Only real protection would be from N winds. Wakes from tugs at the Port adjacent at times were horrendous. Average price with facilities that could use updating considering that price. BoatUS discount given.

FUEL PRICES & DOCKAGE, 2010-10-16
Captain: , Houston, Texas (164)

$1.50 per ft. for overnight.
Diesel : $3.11 per gallon.

Very nice staff, 2010-06-29
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

This is a very convenient stop and least expensive with power in Morehead City but very exposed to wakes and sea breeze. Bathrooms very tired. duckin and go spot. Now closed on Mondays.

Port side Marina, 2009-10-02
Captain: , Maryland Yacht Club, Pasadena Md (81)

Stayed one night 10/01/2009. I will not be back here again. Wakes from the sport fish and others started at 0500 and did not let up until we left. Marina staff was very nice but that does not help me to sleep.

Bad surge and wakes, 2009-09-26
Captain: , Block Island (1679)

I stayed here in 2006 based on their low prices. The docks were fine, but plagued by surge and large wakes from passing boats.

Marina can be noisy, 2008-11-05
Captain: , Havre de Grace (119)

Very friendly reception at this marina, however it can be noisy when shipping work being done next door. Not great on the face dock in a strong southerly.
