Reviews for Portside Marina
Average Marina, Excellent Location, 2017-02-22
Captain: , Erie, PA (120)

We visited this marina last summer on our family boat trip from Erie to the Sandusky islands. Nice location right in town. Restroom facilities old and very limited-- only one shower in the men's for example. Glad we weren't there on a weekend. Docks were nice but tight. A south wind (which we had) produced a lot of roll.

The island is nice, great place to bike! Glacial Grooves state park, good small museum, swimming beaches on a cove on north side of island and next to ferry landing, lots of historic homes, so-so restuarants, a small grocery for reprovisioning.

Would like to go back sometime in the Fall after the leaves have turned!

Second visit this year. Love this place., 2016-09-21
Captain: , Cleveland Harbor (108)

The weekday rate is 1.25 a foot (plus flat 6 dollar utilities fee). The internet works fantastic. Docks are in great shape. Electrical is great. The staff is VERY attentive will professionally help you dock. Call on 68 before entering and a person with an orange shirt will meet you at your dock. Staff is super friendly. The ONLY downside to this place is the protection. Bring fenders. You will bounce a little at the dock. (That is the only reason for 4 stars) 44 miles from Cleveland make this place my first top when visiting the Islands.

Great marina! Excellent staff!, 2016-06-08
Captain: , Catawba Island, OH (291)

Easy in and out with our 32' Sea Ray! Friendly and helpful staff! The dockhands made us feel compfortable with their knowledge and expertise. Very handy location to the rest of the sites on the Island. The restaurant on site is teriffic! We personally feel that the restrooms could use a refresh, but other than that the place is perfect with on-site golf cart rentals available! We'll definitely be back, soon!

Best Marina on the Island, 2016-03-06
Captain: , Sandusky Yacht Club (60)

This is by far the best marina when it comes to location. It is right downtown Kelley's. There is an outside bar with a great menu. The staff is always helpful and very friendly. Live entertainment every Wed and Sat. Can be a little rough when the winds kick up so bring lots of fenders!

could've been a 5 star, 2015-09-09
Captain: , Grand River (109)

The slips were some of the nicest and well cared for I've seen. Extremely curtious and helpful staff. One complaint is the restroom facilities were not just dirty but run down. Paint peeling, mildew stained, funky bathrooms and showers. Second is the WiFi was almost nonexistant. You had to be basically standing in front of the marina office to get service.

Great place to stop over, 2014-09-03
Captain: , Catawba Island, OH (72)

Stopped here for lunch on a Tuesday. Called in when we were about 1/4 mile from entrance and was given a dock asignement promptly. The deck hand was waiting at the dock and was friendly and knowledgeable. Office assistant was great and if you spend $15 or more at the bar the docking is free while you stay. The Docks are fairly new and nice. Planning on staying overnight in a few weeks. The marina is located right downtown and has golf cart and bike rentals. The food at the bar was good but nothing spectacular but thats ok, it was outside and barmaid was friendly and attentive.

Ok and right by downtown., 2014-08-27
Captain: , Cleveland, Ohio (34)

Harbor is not well protected if anywhere near entrance, or first row of docks by entrance. Bathrooms weren't very clean, even right after they pressure washed them. Food was very good. Nice proximity to downtown Kelley's.

dock hands are very inexperienced during high wind dockage assistance, 2014-07-14
Captain: , catawba island (30)

dock hands were very inexperienced while trying to dock my boat. this was while high winds (20-30k) kept us off the dock. dock hands would not use the dock cleats, but tried to physically hold my 15 ton vessel

party marina, 2013-08-04
Captain: , Safety Harbor, Florida (40)

Nice weekends load the marina with boats from the Mainland so it can get noisy. Great dock hands, restrooms were not kept clean but that could be better during the week. With all the boats, the marina was also a bit of a rock and roll event.

great dock hands, 2013-06-24
Captain: , Sandusky, OH (10)

Very helpful and flexible. We are newer sailors and they made us feel very confident.

Great Experience, 2012-09-27
Captain: , Bay Point (20)

Great time at Portside. Fantastic dock hands and office personael. Friendly service. They take reservations unlike another marinia on Kelly's Island. And, no rafting off. Nice restaurant and of course great views. Your are right in the downtown area so you don't have to walk far to visit your favorite pub.

Very Friendly, 2012-07-25
Captain: , Cleveland, OH (124)

This marina is conveniently located right in town. Restaurants, bars, and shopping is easily within walking distance. The place is clean and well run. Most importantly, the staff is very friendly and concerned that you have an enjoyable stay. The dock hands are capable and accomodating. New this year, the marina has golf cart rental available on premisis, which is very convenient.

Wonderful folks, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Madison, WI (460)

We have never experienced a marina where the dock hands are always running. Friendly, courteous, experienced, etc.... Docks have a great power cord management system. Staff is excellent. Accommodations are great. Location and live entertainment make this a must stop and visit destination. Golf cart the island and have a cold one at taverns with character or eat at some great food stops - all walkable. Get a KI shirt at the general store. If they had a pool and some better showers, it would get a 5-star rating from me.

Great Location, nice facilities, but TIGHT!, 2012-05-07
Captain: , Cedar Point, OH (659)

I agree with all of the previous reviews, but I'm surprised that no-one mentioned the small finger docks and narrow fairways. This isn't a place where you want to lie about your true LOA to save a few bucks! In the right conditions (no S, or SE winds), the east wall and east fingers of Pier C are options for boats over 40'. Otherwise, the larger boats have to share the space between D Pier and the crib.

Excellent location, 2012-04-04

Right downtown Kelleys Island nice docks clean restrooms and good food at the on site bar.

Very nice marina for overnight or just a day stop. Very good floating docks. Well organized. Also rent golf carts and bikes for touring this family island.

Good location, 2011-08-09
Captain: , Detroit (720)

fine place, if possibly not the greatest bathrooms. Right next to "donwtown" strip, all 300 feet of it. Low floating docks, pretty clean. great view across to Cedar point area. Beautiful sunrise, sunset location and starviewing. Very understanding staff.

Best on Kelleys, 2011-07-10
Captain: , Kelleys Island, Ohio (35)

Family & pet oriented with doggie ramp for swimming, and you can still can have a great time. Fantastic facilities/showers now they have been upgraded. Marina staff & dockhands are the best on the island. Never any rafting off. Restaurant best on island with NO fried foods of any kind. Won't go anywhere else.

Portside Marina, 2010-10-12
Captain: , Huron Ohio (608)

With new owners a year ago, they are trying hard to upgrade. Great location, just across the street to The Village Pump Restaurant, which is awesome. Kelleys Island is a bit more laid back than Put-in-Bay and restaurants are definitely better.

Great For Downtown Access, 2009-07-02
Captain: , Catawba Island, Ohio (610)

This is a decent marina. The bathrooms are fairly new. The bar on site is a good one, with some fun entertainment. The marina is right downtown, for easy access to bars, shopping and golf cart rental. Beware if the winds kick up out of the south, it can get really bouncy in the Marina. Not much protection.

Nice Facility but only One Shower, 2009-06-12
Captain: , Columbus, Ohio (260)

THis is a nice Marina but offers minimal protectioin from a south or southwest wind. There is only one Shower for hte entire Marina so be prepared oto use your vessels head.

Great access to Kelleys Island Dowtown Scene
