Reviews for Port of Newcastle Marina
Good storm refuge, if you can find your way in, 2015-12-15
Captain: , Toronto (482)

We found the Port of Newcastle by accident. We were heading from Toronto to Cobourg, but strong eatserlies, single digit temperatures and big seas had my crew close to mutiny. I pulled out my Ports Guide to find a hidy hole that could handle a 35' sailboat.

To make the cut we had to turn beam too some 5 or 6 foot seas for a good 15 minutes before entering a very scary, narrow swampy canal, but we made it through without touching bottom. Then hard to port into the fuel dock where we stayed the night.

There was a great little bar/restaurant that had a ski chalet feel (maybe it was just the weather). There was an indoor pool and hot tub a short walk away that had limited hours.

As harrowing an experience as it was turning beam to 6 footers to enter a canal less than twice our beam, and the bizzarre location in the middle of a sprawling sub division, we really enjoyed our visit to the Port of New Castle.

Maybe it was just because the bar had heat?

Glad I phoned ahead to see if there was space since could not raise them on channel 68. Found out admin is part of bar/cafe. From previous info stayed on west side of channel on entering and had no trouble. Staff very helpful. Fueled first and docked next to bar/cafe. reasonable rate and well protected. Need vehicle or bike to go to town of Newcastle. No stores nearby all townhouses.

Great staff but indifferent manager, 2015-10-10
Captain: , Toronto (30)

Needed a port to stay in bad weather. Staff were very accomadating, but manager was rude. They did not allow our recipericol and give a free night, and manager charged $60 for each of 2 nights (40 ft. sailboat) and told us the pass to their pool was given to us at her discretion.
People we met on the dock said to us "we apologize for our manager"....that says it all!

Decent little spot - looks too shallow to accommodate boats of any size but it seems to manage. Had one night free (reciprocal) which we didn't expect from a marina.

Very convenient port if your draft will allow. Fuel dock was good. Docks are slowly getting into disrepair, but marina staff available to help with docking in tight quarters.

Year Round Customer, 2012-04-02

Quiet, cottage-like marina well protected from winds out on the lake.

May have a limiting draft of 5 feet during low water levels and before silt dredging. (Call on VHF or cell prior to attempting to bring in a deep draft boat.)

Quaint little bar/restaraunt (The Brig) with simple fair at reasonable prices.

Much slower pace than metro marinas.

Great camraderie between season slip holders.

Optional Admiral's Walk Clubhouse membership provides access to higher quality bar/restaraunt, gym, lounge, pool, and shower facilities, for those who require more than the basics.

Ma & Pa type operation with a lot of potential, slowly going into more disrepair.
Still, it is a funky spot that is quiet and your dog can enjoy the beach and the grounds without someone bitching about being off leash.
The bar overlooking the docks is a good spot to hang out and spin tall tales.
They host a very cool wooden-boat show every summer.

Very small marina, will not take reservations. Dock is OK, but depths are bad. As little as 3'6'' in the channell, 6' at the dock. Restaurant on dock, open till 9pm, but town is about two miles away.
Needs some attention and funding. There is very few ports that will take a 50'boat on the North side of Lake Ontario.

Great Place Going to Seed, 2011-05-11

This marina is running down more each year. Depths are in question and docks need maintenance.

Captain: , Toronto, ON (1729)

While the staff have been great in the past, this marina is suffering greatly from lack of maintenance and the entrance is silting in badly. Articles in the local yachting press have spoke of the owners evicting yacht club members and the rumours are that they want to redevlop the site as condos. I would strongly suggest checking with other boaters before going here.

Nice quiet location, fair amenities. Washrooms need upgrading. Restaurant / bar with outside patio is cozy. Don't count on the 2 reciprocal slips being available. Nice day anchorage adjacent to harbour inlet with 8 - 12 depth - gravel and sand bottom - with nearby beach.

Nice marina with an average restaurant and fair amenities. Town of Newcastle requires a ride to get to. Staff helpful.
