Reviews for Port Washington Water Taxi
Free mooring for 2 nights, 2017-07-28
Captain: , Naples Florida (246)

Tie to one of the 'yellow' balls and use the water taxi for an $8 single trip. Call on CH68 - they will be right there. Eat at Louie's which has it's own long dock. Water taxi will drop you at several locations depending on where you want to go. Or use your dinghy.

Excellent Service, 2016-07-03
Captain: , Southport Queensland (300)

Originally planned on staying here for 4 days as the town of Port Washington is a great stop. Taxi service has been prompt and courteous at all times. Two of the taxis are easy boarded but the skiff (which is usually run by the owner and only runs when very busy) is a bit of a challenge as there are no handholds and has a very slippery deck. The taxi will drop and pick up anywhere in the harbor which makes it very eqasy to get to the market, West Marine Hardware etc. We wanted to move on further east for the 4th but most other moorings in neaby harbours start at $45 per day and some even want $3.50 per foot for a mooring plus taxi! We're staying for the 4th and will definately be back as two days free and then $25 per day including taxi is the best deal on Long Island.

very reliable, 2016-06-06

Used the water taxi 2 x while on an overnight in port washington, came promptly on both round trips ,only issue i had was seemed that we took a tour of the harbor both trips dropping off other patrons ,seemed that in pouring rain maybe they need some side curtains ,,, but nice kids running the boats and prompt service is appreciated

Perfect location to explore NYC, 2016-02-04
Captain: , Haarlem Netherlands AMEL 54 (402)

During September 2016, we stayed here for more than one week although only planning to stay a few days. Partially due to hurricane Joaquim maybe coming this way as well as a nasty front passing through but mainly as the anchorage and the town was a really nice stop.
Not many anchorages have a large supermarket (stop and shop), a sizeable library with super fast internet connection and a perfect train connection to downtown NYC (Penn station).
The anchorage and the water taxi are well organized and one feels welcomed by the crew running it all.
Great visit and great stay.

Although we only partook of the wonderful and FREE Port Washington moorings for one night, we used the water taxi twice-to bring the ship's dog ashore for her ablutions. The captain (Matt) of the water taxi presented us with a brief but fascinating glimpse into the history Manhasset Bay, including a perfect recitation of the passage in The Great Gatsby that describes bay, headland and Sound. We left Port Washington knowing we'd be back.

moorings on the honor system, 2015-10-04

Great service provided by Matt and crew. 48 hrs free mooring then $25 per day includes taxi service. These moorings are maintained by the Meyran marine service company (water taxi people) as a service to the community and payment is based on the honor system. Port Washington is a great place to hold out in bad weather from any direction while serviced by a large grocery store, pharmaceutical, laundry hardware and even a west marine.

The fee for the water taxi is $25.00 per day per boat, with unlimited trips. the drivers were great but no one would answer the phone. i suggest that you carry a handheld VHF if you use them

Ask about an all-day rate, 2014-09-23
Captain: , Pensacola (310)

We wanted to do laundry and groceries on a day when the wind was blowing northwest 20. Taking the dinghy ashore would have been a long, wet ride. The water taxi carried us for 3 round trips with an all-day rate that was a better deal for us than paying per trip, and was much more convenient than using our own dinghy.

The launch skipper was friendly and knowledgable and a pleasure to talk to on the rides in and out. Next time we will probably use the water taxi instead of a dinghy here even in calm conditions just because we enjoyed the ride so much!

Makes Port Washington Great!, 2014-09-23
Captain: , USEastCoast (664)

The water taxi is reasonable, run by efficient and informed people. The taxi service also runs the mooring field extending west of the town docks and south of the channel to the town dock. The yellow balls (along the channel) are free for 48 hours and only $25 a night after that! What is really excellent is that the taxi is included in the price! We extended our stay, shopped a bit more and partook of some of the many good restaurants. If Port Washington had showers available that would be the icing on the cake. Much of what the tow has available is up the hill to the east. Although the walk isn't bad, they might consider a shuttle up to at least the train station. A convenient dock is across the street from the Stop and Shop grocery and there are a number of hardware and marine supply stores as well. Port Washington is an excellent stop!

Top notch service, showers would be a great addition, 2014-06-23
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (3132)

Launch operators are knowledgable, helpful, and professional. The only improvement I can think of would be to make showers available.

Great Service and People, 2014-05-14

most pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful
3 boats for a large area sometimes it takes a few minutes wait but excellent service, restaurants, shooping center laundromat and service marinas all within walking distance with help of the water-taxi

Everything you need is here. 7/28/2011, 2011-07-28
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

Port Washiongton is a convenient stop for cruisers. It has just about everything that a cruiser needs. This includes numerous mooring balls and about 10yellow that are free for 48 hrs. There are also several marinas if one wants to go into a slip or in need of repairs. Access to shore, via a launch or your dinghy, to one of the town dinghy docks is easy. On shore there are at least 2 super markets, West Marine, liquor store, hardware, and numerous specialty shops. On the water the view is pleasant and wake is minimal. It was a good one night stay to ready for heading through New York City.
