Reviews for Lock 45, Port Severn, Parks Canada
nice spot close to town services (except laundry), 2017-07-01
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (420)

stayed on North Wall above lock 45 room for 6-8 boats with cent walls and wooden finger dock. check depths with lock master if you venture N of finger dock. quiet in that the background noise from the dam eliminates the road noise from Highway 400 -1/4 mile West. friendly staff, lots of comings and goings during lock hours as it is a small manual lock with swing bridge plus gateway to Georgian Bay. Small, but useful general store, LCBO/Beer Store, waterside bar, ice cream

Short Blue Line, 2015-08-07
Captain: , Kingston (50)

The blue line is really short at this lock - both upbound and downbound. But lock staff are very helpful and are good at fiitting several boats into this small lock. This year (2015) docking at the locks was 90 cents a foot, quite reasonable compared to full service marinas. No water or power at the locks, bathrooms are nice and clean.

Rawley Resort, 2015-07-26
Captain: , Honey Harbour, Ontario (170)

Consider docking at Rawley Resort. We did this weekend, $50 for a 25 ' Rosborough. Showers. Onsite dining. Neighbouring boats come here twice a year. Rumoured to have been renovated (owned) by same owner as South Bay Cove Marina. Recently sold, so who knows what changes are in store.

Bottom of Lock 45, 2013-10-16
Captain: , Port Huron (423)

9/2/13 We started our T/S cruise at the bottom of Lock 45. We didn't get into to town but had a decent night stay here. Room for 2 or 3 boats on the tie up wall and one or two on the blue line if it's after hours. The falls are right next to the wall so it's misty and loud. Be careful going under the highway bridge comming or going as there are many buoys spaced close together marking a narrow channel. If you're just getting started, buy your lock and mooring passes here. Do the research to see which plan is best for you.

Great spot, 2012-07-26
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

Agree about others experience with Dam Grill, service sucks.
But, now the good news! There is a town park about a half mile west that offers showers in the handicaped bathrooms for free. Take a walk over to Starport Severn and have a bite, then ask if you might have the wifi code to check your email. Good signal strength at lock walls too. If open ask about and eat at The Principal's Schoolhouse, real Mom and Pop place.

good stopover, 2012-07-23
Captain: , Mystic (909)

Docks are in good condition, plenty of space.
another poo poo for "The Dam Grill". Don't eat there. Service is worse than horrible. Long wait, they cater to their locals, and they don't deliver what the menu says.

Expensive port, bad dining a DAM RESTAURANT, 2012-07-21
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4188)

Good last stop before entering Georgian Bay..BUT...groceries are so expensive my wife wouldnt buy them. She passed. No water or electric on Parks Canada dock. Could not find an open WiFi.
DO NOT EAT AT "THE DAM RESTAURANT" - worst dining experience of the trip. 1 hr wait to get a "food table", inexperienced staff with no training, inside is LOUD (you can hardly talk) and they reserve most of the table for DRINKS ONLY. Took 45 min. to get our food. They make excuses "well our kitchen is really backed up". All young kids work here even the "managers". I explained what we experienced to the 19 year old manager and she just looked at me and didnt have a clue as to how to handle it. Their process of servicing cutomers is a failure. We would never go back to this place. Total time to eat was over 2 hrs !!!!

Room for six to eight boats, 2012-06-27
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Dockage is on both sides of a low wooden dock and along the wall to either side of the dock. Lock is small. Tried to eat dinner at the Dam Restaurant (that's it's name). We were there for over an hour waiting on food and never got any (because the kitchen was "backed up") so eventually left without eating.

good local knowledge, 2011-11-03
Captain: , Newport, R.I. (644)

Good place to Start the Trent Severn if transversing (backwards).

Full Marks for the Great Team, Less Marks for Facilities, 2011-01-24
Captain: , Midland, Ontario (475)

Lockmaster Jim and his team do a spectacular job getting the boat traffic through Lock 45, the western-most lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway. They are always kean to help, whether you captaining a 50 footer or you just rented a houseboat for the weekend.

There is no power for overnight boaters, however, the lock runs through the centre of Port Severn so there are restaurants, bars, grocery stores, wine/beer and hotels to make your stay more comfortable.

It's also a great spot to change crew since Hwy 69 runs right past the lock.

They need a much bigger lock., 2010-08-21
Captain: , Elizabeth City, NC (241)

We waited 3 hours to lock through. The nest day boats waited 5 hours. The first three weeks of August are the busiest in Canada.

Nice quaint undersized lock.

Lock Master, 2009-07-14
Captain: , Quebec (89)

We were there in 2007, and having travelled trough may locks, we found the lock Master at Port Severn being one of the most nice and serviceable one we had met

Port Severn Lock 45, 2009-06-30
Captain: , Clear Lake, TX (694)

NIce dock with well kept park. Clean restrooms (need code) but no showers or hookups. Restaurants and food store nearby. No internet access at dock.

Typical of the Trent-Severn, 2009-06-26
Captain: , Port Ontario, Lake Ontario (410)

The T-S Waterway docks at the locks have no hookups but do have very clean bathrooms, but no showers. If you are going to arrive at a lock after closing time (either 4 pm or 7 pm) then get the combination or key location from a previous lock master.
Lock masters are always pleasant amd most are very nice.

Port Severn Lock , 2008-06-18

Good stop before or after the Bay.
Restaurants and open wifi.
Typical of all of the locks. Clean restrooms and nice apprearance.
Lock keepers were most courteous and helpful( as usual).

Note PROPANE is available from a marina at the BIG CHUTE lock.
