Approach

A boaters reported in June of 2013 that the entrance was much swallower. The depth sounder measured less than 8 feet but dredging was in process.

Come in thru the red and green lights at a 45 degree to avoid the southern shoal. The harbor was dredged in 2010 to 10+ ' feet true depth. However, there are lots of weeds/grasses which confuse the depth finder.

Reviews for Port Sanilac Harbor of Refuge
Nice Marina, 2016-08-19
Captain: , Buffalo,ny (60)

Good place to wait out a storm. Wifi is ok. Bathrooms are clean. Short walk to the Stone house, the owner said they would give a group a ride to and from the marina. Food there was excellent. Blue water tavern ok. small grocery store was a bit of a walk from town. Overall a nice place to stay

small but nice marina, 2016-07-03

Staff is great. Nice restuarant and ice cream parlor

Port Sanilac Harbor, 2015-09-24
Captain: , Catawba Island Ohio (530)

Not much of a greeting by harbor staff was our experience. We stayed here in 2011 and would have rated it better then. Older style fixed docks. Shower rooms and bathrooms could have been cleaner. With topnotch marinas like the ones in Harrisville, Port Austin and Presque Isle deserving of 4 and 5 ratings a couldn't go above a 3 here. The only reason that I would stop here again would be for the restaurant The Stone Lodge. It's a few long blocks from the marina but we got excellent dinners there just like in 2011. Great walleye dinners for $11.

Can't Say Enough!, 2015-09-01
Captain: , Lakeview Park Marina Windsor ON (366)

Stopped here in August of 2015. We ended up staying for four days due to some adverse weatjer. Can't say enough about this wonderful marina. The harbourmaster and his staff went overboard to help not only us but all the transient boats during our stay. The Town was just as accomodating. I would recommend this harbour of refuge in a heartbeat to anyone.

Two Marinas, A Yard, Restaurant and a Haircut, 2015-08-08
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (950)

We stayed at the Municipal marina which was just fine in terms of the docks and facilities. Sharing the harbor is Port Sanilac Marina, which has a good restaurant Uri's, a small chandlery and service department. I was able to get some cordage, marine wire, engine oil. I met Chester, the owner of Port Sanilac Marina - he was very helpful. Also got a $10 haircut at Waum's Barbershop on Main Street - closed on Mondays.

Good Fuel Price, well run, 2015-06-12
Captain: , LaSalle MI (585)

Diesel was 3.09 which was one of the better prices we have seen since Chicago area. Facility has been around since I was a kid in the 60s and 70s but has been kept up and improved. Staff is eficient and harbor is well preotected. Nice, casual restaurant above well stocked marine store next door. Uris. Food was well prepared and freshly made. Another good spot, about 10 minute walk at most is Stone Lodge, a little busier and also very good food. Siobhan is a good waitress, ask for her.

Port Sanilac Municipal Harbor, 2014-07-17
Captain: , Port Franks (176)

Another quality Michigan "Harbor of Refuge". Limited anchor room but inexpensive docks and clean facilities make transient slips the way to go here.

Great little town, 2014-05-27
Captain: , Milwaukee (651)

Had stopped for gas, and they let us stay at the gas dock while we went into town to eat and shop. Great small town feel.

Boater's delight, 2013-08-21

Michigan does it right!, 2013-08-11
Captain: , Britt, Ontario (691)

Another great Harbor and good docks. Lots of weed in August but good depth for our 5' 5" draft. This is another small town worth a visit.

Nice little town and marina, 2013-07-09
Captain: , Sturgeon Bay, WI (287)

We had a great time in Port Sanilac. The restaurant near the docks overlook the lake and the food was very good. The marina is in very good condition and the grocery store is a very short walk from the marina. The marine store had a much better inventory than I expected and the staff was knowledgable.

A great safe harbor , 2013-06-12
Captain: , Pittsburgh (513)

We have stopped there 3 years running either heading N or S. great transient facility with friendly staff and all services. Beach adjacent and local shops within walking distance. Nice Michigan waterfront town.

Another very typical nice Michigan Harbor of refuge, 2011-09-17
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

High docks ok for us but some boats may have issues. Nice laundry bathrooms with showers, captains lounge with free wifi, short walk into small town.

pretty and clean, 2011-08-10
Captain: , Detroit (720)

I must have trailered to Port Sanilac 50+ times over the years. Quite place, if you want that. many times I've been the only boat at any dock on the northside of the marina. Spotlessly clean grounds. solid, but super tall docks, which were always too long and tall for my gear and 24ft cruiser. Power cable barely made the 50ft stretch and front lines had to be extended too. Nice library, tv, computer, excercise room is awesome for getting off a smaller boat during a rainy day.

Port Sanilac Municipal, 2010-06-08
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

Nice like most michigan municipal marinas. There is a second private marina on the south side of the harbor.
