Reviews for Port Elgin Harbour
nice newer marina, services not so close. fuel possibly next week!, 2017-07-18

nice stop with very helpful staff. bathrooms as shoes functional

Nice marina, friendly staff, but not much nearby, 2017-06-29
Captain: , Bayfield, WI (340)

Port Elgin is a larger marina with plenty of depth throughout. The staff was friendly and helpful. The docks and showers are secured and can only be accessed with a marina fob. Excellent beach and boardwalk right next to the marina. Three small snack shops are the only eating places close by, the rest are in town 11 blocks away. It's a very busy marina with fuel dock construction still taking place. It was a good stop over, but there's really not much to do here, and shopping (for anything) would require a cab ride.

Harbor Master was fantastic. Mark took us into town for lunch and then came and picked us up. Couldn't ask for better or more friendly service. This will most certainly be a 5 star facility. Right now they are undergoing major renovations with new floating docks. Each dock shares a dual 30 amp pedestal, but 240 is available via 2-30a and a splitter. Unsure if fuel is planned with the upgrade or what services they may provide.

Beach and walking fans will love it., 2016-08-30

Be sure to hike to Southhampton if you enjoy a nice walk along the lake. Several good restaurants about a tenty minute walk into Port Elgin. Bands palyed weekends at the beach. Downside is surge with west winds, liveable however.

A little out of the way but worth it., 2016-08-17

This was a nice stop for us with wide docks. Town is a bit far and shuttle service stops at 5pm.

I hadn't been here for a few years and the first thing I noticed was the nice new floating docks. The docks are also gated and the restrooms were in good condition. The dockhands that we encountered acted bored with their job. And since they were the representatives of the marina I had to give it only 3 stars. The town is nice with all you could need although a little bit of a walk if you don't carry bikes. If you do carry bikes there is anice rail trail that goes to southampton and then another trail that you can follow back to Port Elgin along the water. Lord Elgin fish and chips is worth a visit.

Great Little Harbour with easy access including a range light. Restricted entry to the docks. Great Town with a sandy beach just beside the Marina. Trie the Lord Elgin based on a previous post and it lived up to it's reputation. An all round pleasant experience for us.

Brand new docks, 2013-10-16
Captain: , Port Huron (423)

Everything about this harbor seemed new and fresh. The locals docked here liked to have fun and included us in their festivities. It is a little off the rhumb line to or from Tobermory, but worth the extra few miles.

We have stayed here a couple of times as we head North and South. A very safe harbor with the best Fish and Chip restaurant (The Lord Elgin). Well worth a visit. Friendly staff and Beach adjacent to the Harbor. Beautiful sunsets given the right weather conditions

Port Elgin is the best on your way up Lake Huron. Crystal clear water right inside the harbour. Great restaurants close by in town.
It's just a one day sail up to Toberbmory!
We love it!

We arrived from Tobermory with a 20Kt tail wind and some interesting rollers to surf down. The entrance is right where my GPS indicated, however the lighthouse just north on Chantry Is confused me for a few. Stay in the marked chanel. Once in the staff where very friendly and even passed out free ball caps to everyone in our group of 3 boats. The staff got everyone docked and fueled with skill and courtesy. Only thing lacking would be a bit better restaurant. Didn't have time to explore the town. Next year.
