Reviews for Port Browning Marina
Its woth the stop, 2016-09-01
Captain: , Redmond, Wa (101)

Visited in late Aug, wonderful place with a great people and sunset.
Water and power were limited.
Kids loved the pool.
Groceries a quick walk down the street.

Loved it., 2016-08-22
Captain: , Saanich, BC (50)

The staff are fantastic. Always visible and helpful. From the first radio contact they were there ready to help on the slip. Shuttles available for the local farmers market and a local winery (Sea Star). Shuttle driver Lisa was very friendly and provided information about the island. This will be one of my regular yearly stops.

A new beginning for the old marina, 2016-08-08
Captain: , Pender Harbour, BC (351)

Some good, some bad. The docks are slowly being repaired, but overall in pretty tough shape. Water is always restricted here, and NO water tank filling, just a gallon at a time. The power has been "re-breakered" to 15 amps, so charger and water tank together will trip the service. We have electric galley, so generator was required (which I hate to run with other vessels present, but had no choice). Restaurant has changed the menu (sadly no more 'Turkey Tuesday') but still good, with great atmosphere and good service. Dock staff were wonderful.
In retrospect (no water, poor power) we will anchor in the bay next time and take the saved moorage fee and spend it in the pub!

Enjoyed the stay..., 2016-08-08

Met a the dock on the way in, easy in, easy out. Pub burger was one of the best we've had, friendly folk, nice grounds.. will be back...

New Owners - New Service, 2016-07-09
Captain: , Point Roberts (230)

Wow! What a difference ownership makes!
Once upon a time this place was a shithole and I would not have recommended it, but now the new owners "Mill Bay Group" have transformed it into a cool place to visit. I went with a group cruise, 12 MacGregors and they had to really squeeze us in, along with two other group cruises. It was the July 1st Canada day weekend and i don't think they were ready for such a busy weekend but they did it anyway, accommodated everyone and all had a good time thanks to the tireless efforts of the staff. Finally after many years this place is going to rock and be a favourite family destination. There are more upgrades in the plans from what I hear and am looking forward to visiting again, a must on anyones cruising list.

Just visited the restaurant and the wine prices are extorionit 43.00 llitere house wine. docksa still poor no water on dock, 2015-03-31
Captain: , Vancouver BC (500)

As stated above in ther heading, the prices at the restaurant are very high and the quality not a match, one understands that Island prices are higher, but, should be within reason.

nice quiet spot, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Blaine WA (101)

has all you want - not as new as Poets Cove but the staff are friendly and the place is clean. Short walk to town for a nice grocery store and other shops.

A but rustic, but the most pleasant people we dealt with the whole trip., 2014-06-24
Captain: , Breakwater Marina (83)

Definitely not an up-scale facility, but definitely the most friendly and accommodating we met on the trip.

Cute and fun spot!, 2014-04-07
Captain: , Mercer Island, WA (40)

Wife and I stopped in here this past Saturday. A bit of a rainy day so not many boaters, but there were signs of life around.

We went to the pub and were debating moving somewhere more lively for the night. We talked with the server while enjoying the final four on their HDTV in true hd quality with an amazing plate of nachos!

The server told is Saturday is Karaoke night and rib night... We were intrigued, he told us karaoke fills the bar and it gets really fun. We were also told of two rib dinners for 23 CAD. That is not each, but total! We decided to stay.

Went for a nice walk that afternoon when the rain let up, great beach, dog had fun. Returned for dinner and karaoke and it did not disappoint... Certainly not what you would find in Seattle, but that is why you are here, right?

Ribs were decent (not as good as the ones at Roche), but at less than half the cost a damn good bargain and they were super tender! Karaoke was fun as well, locals were friendly and each server was great.

The next morning we walked to the driftwood centre nearby then back, had breakfast (also great and reasonable), then departed. Overall great stay and we will be back.

Facilities: bathrooms top notch and clean! Pool looked ice. Docks are ok shape, power is somewhat limited and could be an issue in the summer if you get stuck with 15 amps as they have limited 30 amp circuits. Kayak rentals on site, great wifi (12 Mbps and 35ms ping to Seattle). Nice big lawn, pay phone, ice, etc. My AT&T phone had no service, sprint phone roamed to telus, telus hotspot had 4g that worked well. Based on AT&T phone, presume Rogers is unavailable.

Bad News for the one.., 2014-02-01
Captain: , San Diego, CA (480)

We were here 8-16-2013. The place is for sale and it shows it in every way. The docks are falling apart, is tons of 'deferred maintenance', and having the gaul to charge you a landing fee of $5 so you can buy items at the Pub?? I think not. Updating the moorage fees...it's $1.25 a foot plus a fee for electricity. Trust me, skip this place until new owners (we hope) spend some money on the place and talk to the employees about attitude.

Port Browning has improved, 2013-10-14
Captain: , Whidbey Island, WA (191)

Visited the Port Browning Marina August 2009 and it is much nicer than before. Docks in good shape, obvious landscaping work on the grounds, everything open and clean. Before I had it way down on the list, it seemed about to go under, now I would stay there comfortably.

Authentic Gulf Island experience, 2013-08-29
Captain: , Seattle (110)

If you're looking for a great place, off the beaten path, check this one out. It's laid back, as authentic a Gulf Island place as you'll find. The marina works, pool and showers are first rate, pub and cafe serve GREAT food, and the dinghy fee is waived if you eat at the pub or otherwise take advantage of the facility.

Easy 1/2 mile stroll to the Driftwood Centre, where you'll find wonderful grocery store, pharmacy, gift shops, sushi, and a bakery. Don't miss the Saturday farmers market, too!

So much better than the reviews lead you to think!, 2013-08-27
Captain: , Novelty, WA (214)

We only stopped in for lunch, so short version: We'd come spend a few nights here in a heartbeat. Very low key, nice pool, and the pub food was AWESOME. Seriously great, had no problem pleasing me, the wife, and 4 small kids who are picky- must have pizza and chicken strips! All was great, and we'll be back.

Yes, the dock is rickety, no idea how power is, and the $5 fee to dock, even though we spent $90 on lunch, seems silly. But they came right out and told us "we want to increase revenue and fix up the docks". I can get behind that.

Will come and stay awhile next time...

Enjoyed the Pub,be aware of $5 fee for dinghy.., 2013-06-13
Captain: , Portland, OR (1223)

We anchored out and dinghied in - after reading their signs they have a new (?) $5 fee for the dinghy dock. Though it might change, when we were there they did not give credit for this fee at the Pub / Dining room... We really enjoyed the view, typical Pub food, great grounds and lots of activity. But the Fee put me off a bit. . . .

Is a short walk to town for a full range of shops: BIG grocery store, bank, drug store, post office, and so much more. And a Sushi restaurant! Can honestly say best I have had in years!

Great Relaxed Service with Friendly Staff, 2013-05-21
Captain: , Mount Vernon (10)

This is a very low-key spot that has camping available and a very nice pub that is popular with the locals. We were just there for one day. Pulled in Sunday morning, left Monday morning. If you just need a spot to meet up for a gathering, or a place to spend the night, it doesn't get much easier than this. It's not fancy, but it has most everything you need and it's clean and friendly.

Wow!!! What a great place now, 2012-08-08
Captain: , Blaine (30)

The positive changes of the docks and marina building make this a repeat destiation. Food and others stores are a short walk from the marina.
Resturant has changed for the better as well.

Nice stop for dogs, 2012-06-20

What a diference!, 2011-03-07
Captain: , Sidney BC, Canada (271)

Great improvements........new power on old docks, new showers and washrooms and the food in the pub is outstanding! Nice hike up to the Driftwood mall, good grocery store. The scenery in this bay is spectacular, well worth a visit. Keep up the good work!

Huge improvement, 2009-12-10
Captain: , Sidney and Calgary (309)

Was there in Sept 09. The washrooms / showers are a huge improvement. Browning is back on my list.
