Reviews for Port Austin State Harbor
Awesome! Beautiful area!, 2017-07-27
Captain: , Bay city (10)

We traveled here from Bay City on July 2-5. Great experience.
Contacted by radio ahead, and they met us at the dock, very helpful. Great little town. Enjoyed fireworks from our dock. Newer docks, newer facilities.
We will be back!!

One of the best, 2017-07-19
Captain: , Corpus Christi (406)

Great marina, well maintained, very helpful staff, nice showers, free laundry, reasonable price, beautiful surroundings, close and friendly town - whats not to like - highly recommended

Excellent Stop, 2016-09-04
Captain: , Portage Lakes, OH (183)

Very clean marina, docks are in great shape, playground for the kids, beautiful beach, close to downtown. Very helpful and knowledgable staff. Friendly environment. Only stayed one night, but would definitely have stayed longer if time permitted. Would recommend to anyone!

Very Clean, 2016-08-28
Captain: , Bay City, MI (66)

The staff were always kept busy. Even sweeping spider webs from the docks every morning! Never seen that at any marina before.

Everything we needed in easy walking distance. Very nice town, and friendly people.

Port Albert Marina, 2016-07-29
Captain: , Ashland, wi (200)

Well worth pulling in here. Staff are knowledgable and helpful. Well maintained. Great port in a storm.

Nice new docks, 2015-09-24
Captain: , Catawba Island Ohio (530)

Very pleasant and professional young lady checked us in and answered all of our questions as we had not been there before. Very nice new docks and clean facilities. Free washer and dryer. Next door is a beach with adirondack chairs on it. Nice little tourist town. Only change I could think of would be to have put the showers in the same room as the bathrooms. Showers had seperate entry.

No Problems with Draft, 2015-07-24
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

If you use the Michigan DNR website to reserve a slip, it will incorrectly warn you about limiting 4 ft draft. Even the Active Captain details references a 5.5" draft, but these predate the harbor being dredged. Harbormaster said she has been trying to get DNR to correct their website.
Helpful dock staff. Clean facilities. Free laundry. New floating docks - great place to stop. I needed to straighten some metal plate and was planning to use my hammer but the Harbormaster let me use her bench vise - sweet! They really do a nice job keeping up the facilities, pride of ownership is evident. If you want a gourmet Farm To Table meal, try "The Farm". They have a pickup service right here at the marina. Excellent dining experience.

New floating docks & power pedestals, 2015-07-19
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7375)

Marina channel well marked, dock hands helpful getting you tied up. Very clean restrooms/showers, free laundry. Sandy beach adjacent to marina. New fuel pumps on easy to get to dock. Room for larger boats on fixed dock. One block to town.

Nice new facility with a courteous staff, 2014-08-16
Captain: , Dunkirk, NY (79)

Weathered in here for 2 days. Waves breaking over the breakwall. The staff was helpful and the facilities were first rate. Only the WiFi needs updating. The signal was strong, but the bandwidth was minimal!

Port Austin State Harbour, 2014-07-19
Captain: , Leamington, Ontario (710)

Clean showers. Nice fuel dock access. Close to town. Very protected harbour, friendly staff.

Another beautiful Michigan harbor, 2014-07-18
Captain: , Pittsburgh (564)

The facility has all new docks as of 7-18-2014 and is as always well run. Thee town has many places to eat out and the basic foods can be bought at the local food store including fresh meat.
Sunset / sunrises are spectacular weather permitting.
A busy port with a lot of traffic from the launch slip with fishermen traveling the route through the marina dawn to dusk.

Very welcoming, 2013-08-21
Captain: , traverse city (120)

Great little town. Absolutely spotless Clean and neat facility. Marina staff could'nt be more helpful and attentive. Plenty of water for our 4.5ft draft sailboat

Consistant, 2013-08-14
Captain: , Oscoda, Mi (56)

Good enough stop, 2013-07-05
Captain: , Brisbane, Australia (399)

Keen staff but this marina does not feel cared for. We had plenty of water for our 5' draft boat.

Still Under Reconstruction, 2012-07-25
Captain: , Newport News, VA (60)

Harbor is officially "closed" but still offers transient dockage. We were there on July 22, 2012. Currently no WiFi, no fuel, no pumpout and no laundry. Also no Verizon data signal. A variety of restaurants for such a small town.

good marina, nice town, 2011-08-10
Captain: , Detroit (720)

good food in town. many restaurants to be such a small town. marina facility and people are good, not great as mentioned by others. Be very sure not to go or come from the East as should be obvious from the charts but must not be given all the groundings each year. Actually boat destructing crashes in to jagged rocks would be a better descriptions as grounding sounds like something your boat will survive.

Good Place to "grub up" Safe and Secure, 2011-07-05
Captain: , Oriental, NC (1148)

Port Austin is another one of the chain of good safe harbors that cruisers can enjoy while travelling North or South. It has a little more swell that other harbors we've been to but really nothing to complain about. The WiFi is exellent and the facilities are modern. I didn't have a chance to go into town so I can't rate it.

Port Austin State Dock, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Linwood, MI (43)

Very nice State of Michigan Marina. Lots of room inside the breakwall to anchor if you so choose. Keep clear of the at the southwest and east sides of the harbor. Entrance is very easy but could be a little tricky with a very strong north to northwest wind, but shoud be manageable in most conditions. Docks are nice and the Clubhouse is fairly new with clean restrooms and showers. I have been in Port Austin 3 times in the last 2 summers and the staff was very helpful. The town of Port Austin is just up the street with a number of eating and drinking places. If your there on a Saturday druing the summer they have a nice farmers market a few blocks into town.

Port Austin, 2010-06-16
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

Another nice well protected Michigan harbor with good protection.
Small tourist oriented town.
Watch for Turnip Rock as you round the tip of the thumb a couple miles NE.
The harbor master is good. If you come in when the kids are running the place don't expect much. They mean well, but didn't know what to do with the lines.
Nice stop overall.

They are in the procedd of rebuilding the marina. The parking lot is currently tore up. When completed, they will approx. double the number of slips and they docks will be floating.

Port Austin state dock, 2009-07-12
Captain: , Michigan (519)

Good fixed docks with pilings. Helpful dock attendants.
Even biggest slips only get one 30 amp outlet per slip. Watch bouys carefully, there are rocks in the harbor but we had no problems with a 5'6" draft.
Hardware, groceries, booze, restaurants all within walking distance. No drugstore in town.
I would have rated it higher if there was dual 30 amps.
Nice facility.
Free WiFi, no cable TV.
