Reviews for Pontchartrain Landing
More of an RV park but a good stop for a boat, 2017-06-04
Captain: , Merritt Island, FL (556)

We stayed here May 22-24, 2017. Floating dock w/power & water. Call on phone for a reservation, but don't count on help getting tied up. Good restaurant, and shuttle to French Quarters. No security concerns, plenty of RV's. We would stay here again.

marina rv park great stop, 2017-05-29
Captain: , Port Arthur, Tx (526)

stopped here after tough day transit river locks from east we were met at dock after we were delayed with lock and train bridge. welcome package with information about services provided onl stayed 1 night ate at on site resterant great food and service there.

Nice Staff (Mainly an RV Park), 2017-02-16
Captain: , Kemah Texas (389)

Held up here for about a week waiting on a weather window. Had just come through the Harvey and Industrial Canal locks and needed a place to destress as well. The restaurant and bar on site are great. Scenery leaves a lot to be desired, but the place is nice and well kept.

When coming in from the GIWW be warned that the Danzinger bridge (50ft vert. clearance) requires several hours notice to open (operated by LA Dept. of Trans.). Call as soon as you start going through the Industrial Canal Lock if coming from the west.

I would only vist here as a last resort

Comfortable spot with good services, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (1453)

We tied up to the floating face dock with plenty of depth (for our 6' draft), power, water and cable TV included for $1/ft. Large facility is mostly an RV park but also have rental motel-style rooms. Can take shuttle to French Quarter for $6 per day. Good WiFi and accommodating staff. Bar / restaurant on site has live music 4 nights per week. Small pool looked nice but we didn't use it.

can't say enough good about it, 2016-04-10
Captain: , Chicago (250)

wonderful facility and friendly people to the max! shuttle to the French Quarter. inner basin is best if you're shallow draft, but fender knowing that the water level can vary over 4 feet between tides, wind direction and rain.

Good place to hold up, 2015-12-03
Captain: , Austin, TX (70)

10 days is the same cost as 1 month. Stayed here, got mail here. Good service. Able to get a few items and prep for the next leg. Family friendly. definately recommend if you need a hold over.

Nice restaurant, 2015-08-21
Captain: , Naples, Fl (181)

We were staying next door but visited the bar/restaurant here. Very nice setting, decent food. Nice, attentive personnel

Your Boat Wiil Get Filthy Here, 2015-05-20
Captain: , Cleveland, OH (344)

Nice new post Katrina facility. Just spent a month here. We only draw 3 feet so we were in the basin behind the restaurant. They have a dirt parking lot and the wind blows dirt all over your boat.

No Regrets, Houston, 2015-04-18
Captain: , Houston (100)

Excellent stay, great food, great nightlife! Great restaurant, and bar! Good showers, but don't expect workers to be in a hurry or on time if you need work done!

Great Place to Stop, 2015-04-06
Captain: , Kemah, TX (306)

This marina has a lot to offer. If they had a fuel dock I would have rated them at five stars. Fuel is available at the marina next door.

We stayed for one night in early April of 2015. We arrived on Easter weekend. The staff was friendly and helpful and since I was short crewed, they sent someone to help us tie up. We had lunch in the on-site restaurant. The service and food were great. The restaurant also has live entertainment or activities most every night.

We did not take advantage of the for a fee bus rides they offer several times a day to go into NO.

Nice, clean, safe stop, 2015-01-28
Captain: , Orange TX (130)

We were going to stay there for 2 days but the weather turned ugly and we ended up staying for 6 days. The facilities were very nice and the staff very friendly and helpful. Nate is a very knowledgeable facility manager. Would recommend this place for a staging place to transit west.

Great stop over before the New Orleans Locks, 2014-10-27
Captain: , Port Lavaca, TX (451)

Stopped here on 10/25/14. Very friendly staff, very nice floating docks - side tie. Great AGLCA and Active Captain rate. Nice restaurant/bar - food was great. Highly recommend this stop when planning to go through the New Orleans locks the next morning (recommend weekends)

This place is great, and not so great, 2014-03-11
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

What this place does well, it does really well. Agree with the other reviewers and find them accurate, although the restaraunt in now Lighthouse Bar and Grill. The people here are terrific. Matt is still bartending. Tony is cooking up some of the best shrimp and gumbo I've ever tasted.

We stayed a week for Mardi Gras and the place was at capacity, so we probably did not see them at their best. Since the other reviewers have hit on the many good aspects, I'll concentrate on the downsides. The place is primarily an RV park. The marina is y a secondary operation. This is results in long walks in the mud to the few bathrooms on site. The laundry and bathrooms were pretty filthy, despite the staff's efforts to keep them clean. The washers costs $1.75 and the small dryers also cost $1.75 and did not dry my load in one session. $3.50 to $5.00 is too much for a load of laundry. The shuttle was great, but they stop running at 8 PM, which is just when Bourbon Street is starting up. It is not easy to get a cab back to the RV park since many cabs refuse to go there. When you finally do get a cab, it is going to cost $20 to $30. A shuttle to the grociery store would have been nice.

Suggestions: Put a bathhouse and laundry on the dock so the boaters don't have to trudge through the mud. Get some portable pump outs. Have a courtesy car or a boater's shuttle since there are no facilities nearby.

Safe marina, great facilities and staff, 2014-01-29
Captain: , San Marcos, TX (865)

Stayed here for 6 nights in early Dec 2013 waiting on weather. Great floating dock, clean restrooms/bath facilities, laundry on site, well maintained grounds. All staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The shuttle to the French Quarter was a nice convenience. This place is in a remote, industrial area with no shopping/grocery facilities within walking distance. We felt safe inside the gate, but would not venture out on foot. No fuel or pump-out facility, had to move across the channel to Seabrook.

Nice, Clean, & Quiet, 2013-12-04
Captain: , Boyd, Texas (390)

Just an overnite stop for us. The staff was helpful and the price was right. Good restaurant on site.

Great Stay, 2013-09-20
Captain: , Corpus Christi (240)

We stayed here for a month. They have a shuttle that goes into the French Quarter 3 xs a day. After you pay for the 3rd ride in the shuttle is free. We had a great stay, met some great people, enjoyed the music at the BBQ and Bar.

If you are here to see NOLA this is the place to stay.

Don't Stay Here!, 2013-08-28
Captain: , Galveston, TX (599)

A well kept secret that you might not want to tell your friends about. All facilities are close together, including the pool, bar, restaurant, office, store, heads, laundry, ...

It gets crowded during holidays and weekends. It is deceptively placed. The shuttle service takes you to town and back, taxi service is fairly cheap to or from, and Nifty Rentals will bring a car right to the office. (In other words, transportation isn't a problem.)

Staff is friendly and knowledgable about their jobs and the surrounding area. Pump out happens right at your berth.

Don't forget the ActiveCaptain discount.

Great spot to stay awhile or leave boat, 2013-07-04
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (732)

Essentially an upscale RV park with many amenities, including good restaurant, floating dock (get off main canal if leaving boat awhile), $5 shuttle to French Quarter, good laundry & showers. Only real negative was that wi-fi is bandwidth...and reportedly has been for months. Slower than dial-up when it worked at all. We were told that it used to work, but not in months. Otherwise a great place, and a secure spot to leave the boat for travel elsewhere with a modest monthly rate.

Ponchartrain Landing/Hickory Prime BBQ Restaurant, 2013-06-29
Captain: , New Haven, CT (145)

We just spent two months here during which time we left our boat unattended for two separate weeks. There was not the least problem. We came for the Jazz Fest (special FREE transportation to and from Jazz Fest) and stayed an extra month. We were able to take in the Oyster Festival and the Zydaco Festival also with free transportation to and from.

All the things in the previous reviews are seconded by us, except the wifi had good signal but slow through-put over at the dock.

There are two laundry/shower complexes. The main has 5 washers and 6 dryers and the auxiliery (adjacent to the floating boat dock) has 4 washers and 4 dryers.

Get this - you can fill your propane tanks on site, on request!!

There is a full working marina right across from the boat dock that you can walk to or dinghy to for parts and repairs. They even got things from West Marine for us saving us a cab fare! See the SeaBrook Marine listing.

Now for the people. Nate is the Manager assisted by George and Sean. The place is kept spotless! I don't think I have ever been to a better run marina. When the rain stops (this is New Orleans, after all) they are out immediately grading away the puddles. The trash is picked up every moring by 10 am without fail.

The young lady who cleans the houseboats (for rent - you can have guests who don't stay on your boat!) is tireless.

Evenyone is exceptionally polite and the office staff will sign for packages for you. We had a new computer delivered there without incident.

Now the restaurant: Karen and Bill who run Hickory Prime are award winning (there are trophys from current competitions all over the place), friendlym quick to serve and eager to please. Needless to say, the food is terrific!

Matt is one of the bar tenders (though there are several others). Be sure to ask him for his specialty "Boudreau" drink!

All and all, we give this marina and the restaurant the highest ratings and would not hesitate to return!!

Nice Place to Stay, 2013-06-19
Captain: , San Leon, Texas (246)

Pontchartrain Landing is very easy to get into and dock. They have inside docking and also a long dock along the canal. These are tie along floating piers with lots of good cleats, lighted power pedestals, and water hook up. They also have a convient pump out station on each pier.

Pontchartrain Landing is an RV / Marine resort and has a swimming pool, hot tub, laundry, bar, and restaurant. They have a shuttle bus that takes you to and picks you in the French Quarter. The marina is very well kept. They are very pet friendly and have a very large area to walk your dogs. Just pick up after them.

The only thing I would reccommend is that they place more trash cans next to the pier.

Great place to stay, friendly staff, plan on being back here

Good Overnight 4-29-13, 2013-05-07
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (286)

Parked overnight, very friendly staff. New Bar-B-Q restaurant on site was good. Docks and Power good

Nice place to get stuck, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Phoenix, AZ (960)

Stayed here for several months. Get the monthly rate if you plan on staying a while, considerably cheaper. Shuttle to the French Quarter, bar, laundry, weekend entertainment, and a pool on site. Grocery and pharmacy is a good bike ride away.

Good for a spell, 2013-03-13
Captain: , Houston, TX (553)

We parked the boat here for two weeks to return home for a break and to see New Orleans. Great little marina with floating docks, power, water and pump-out at the dock. Friendly people, on-site bar/restaurant and a shuttle ($5) to/from the French Quarter. Grocery stores and West Marine are a couple miles away, but the shuttle passes by one grocery store and will pick you up on the way back.

Snowbird Haven and good fpr boaters too, 2013-02-28
Captain: , houston, tx (403)

Stayed here a few days to enjoy New Orleans. The entry is easy and the floating docks with side tie are great. Pump out at boat through center walkway piping works well. Easy access to fuel dock across fairway at Seabrook Marina. You can walk to Seabrook Marina and the small West Marine store. Laundry facilities stay busy with all of the RV folks. No dock carts to haul laundry, so totes / duffles needed for the walk to the somwhat long distance across the gravel areas.

Solid Marina with a yard across the way., 2013-01-06
Captain: , San Diego (377)

New floating docks, pump out, power, cable tv, great showers, jacuzzi, bar, etc. Good discount with Active Captian membership (~1.40/foot without, $1/foot per day), monthly rate is about 10$/foot per month. Deep, good for sailboats.

Great little marina, 2012-12-01
Captain: , Reedville, VA (689)

A little bit away from any activities but the shuttle ($5.00 round trip) to the city can't be beat. Can't beat the price. Fuel is available right across the channel.

Update. December 1, 2012

The boat weathered hurricane Isaac at there dock. Had no problem. Returned to refit and to continue our cruise. The staff couldn't be more helpful. Equipment ordered while away was stored securely awaiting our return. Cannot say enough good things about this place. It's location next to Sea Brook Marine is a plus.

Beautiful RV Park, 2012-11-21
Captain: , League City, TX (173)

This place is beautiful and meticulously maintained. The office and maintenance staff are courteous, helpful, very friendly and the amenities are first rate. The restaurant management/help are great and the food is good. Be careful not to fill the dryers with a full load of clothes. They are timed for 45 minutes... just short of getting everything really dry so if you fill them with a full load you'll have to run them twice. That being said... it is an RV park and the marina was an afterthought. Their day rate is relatively high for the area and they charge for electricity for day raters. First time I've seen that in 30 years of cruising. Cleats are too few and too small (one 1/2" line per cleat is about the max they can handle. The inner harbor (closest to the Lake and office building) has a narrow entrance and is quite shallow (5' at best) so tie up in the alleyway between the rv park and Seabrook Marine. The wifi is abysmal unless you are sitting on top of the facility office/restaurant and even then I couldn't send out a 3mb email with one photo attachment. Forget streaming or doing any kind of a viable internet search. All in all, it's a lovely place to stop for a day or two.

Really Nice, 2012-11-18
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

There is not much negative you can say about PL except the WIFI was very slow most of the time, need bigger cleats for larger lines, and there are some dangerous holes in the concrete portion of the floating docks (I assume cutouts for shore power pedestals). These should be filled in or capped before someone breaks a foot or leg. Positives: new, clean, pool and hot tub, bar and food(BBQ), live entertainment 3 of the 4 nights we were there, $5 shuttle to the French Quarter several times a day, playground for kids, fenced pet run, showers/restrooms/laundry at 2 separate buildings, very friendly staff (one offered to drive us to the grocery store) and they were waiting on the dock upon arrival to assist with lines. Simply a first class facility.

The Marina to stay at to see New Orleans, 2012-11-01
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

This was a great Marina with all features a cruiser could want. The shuttle downtown is convenient and offers a the simple access to see the beautiful city. Discount for Active Captain and AGLCA reduces dockage to $1.00 a foot. This in a city that has $200-$400 a thte least expensive way to see this icon is by boat staying at this marina.

can't be beat, 2012-10-12
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (1522)

Wow... what a great place. Delivering a 40' sea ray motor yacht. Was able to dock on the inside next to the bar/office/restaurant. Restaurant small food but it has the best Pizza I have ever had, and I've had a lot!!!! Band played until 11. So if you want a little quiet on the nights when they play, good idea to use the docks next to SeaBrook and then you can just jump over for Gas. The outside can be bumpy as boats come in from Lake Pontchartrain. The entry depth into the inside docks is about 5 or 6ft with no movement. Bar tender/cook/bar back is a hoot!! from Chicago. Connected with a packed RV park so lots of fun with lots of people.

Great stop off spot for lock positioning, 2012-06-23
Captain: , Seabrook TX (100)

Good floating docks on long transient pier directly accross from Seabrooks docks. The inner harbor is tight and somewhat shallow so stick to the outside dock. Nice pool and outside bar, food service somewhat spotty but good when available. Located well for transients heading either east or west transiting the Industrial and Harvey locks. 6/18/12

Nice Docks, Nice People, Nice Time, 2012-06-02
Captain: , Tampa, FL (83)

We had a wonderful time here during our 5 1/2 week stay. They are just getting up and running but are very responsive to suggestions. The shuttle is a great idea and it was used repeatedly. I called prior to arrival and the Site Manager was at the dock waiting for me.

I will come back.

Best way to visit New Orleans, 2012-05-12
Captain: , Chattanooga (327)

We found Ponchartrain Landing at the last minute on our way to Mardi Gras and stayed through Jazzfest (3 mos). Marina docks are new to an established RV park. All amenities, eg. laundry, pool, shuttle to town, bar and security are tops. Staff is getting up to speed on boaters needs quickly, couldn't be more responsive and on site management is exceptional. Rates are good and a major boatyard is adjacent for fuel and repairs. Major provisioning is within 1.5 miles and Enterprise is about the same.
Great place to have visitors and to experience what New Orleans offers. Hope to come back.

Not quite world class, 2012-05-11
Captain: , Absarokee Mt (1228)

This is a new operation, primarily an RV park with a face dock. The dock is great, new pedestals, power was fine. The welcome package with shuttle availability to the French Qtr is wonderful, just what many cruisers are looking for. They do not have people to meet you as you come in, that is not a big deal, but to get five stars that effort needs to be made. The office staff is new and is learning. I was quoted $1.30 a ft even with discounts from AGLCA and Active Captain and that was not right. We finally worked it out. This again is not a mark of a world class faciltiy. A minor item is that the cleat sizes is small for 5/8 lines. It is easy to get into, once you get by the L&N Rail road draw bridge. This operation is right next to Seabrook. There are several long term tennants at the docks that really like the operation and pitch in to help, they really make a difference.

We shall return, 2012-04-28
Captain: , Port OConnor, Tx (628)

We stayed here for 7 days. You couldn't ask for better service. Every one of the staff was helpful and friendly. Restrooms/showers spotless. Hate to leave.
