The channel entering Smith Creek is nice and deep, but it has a sharp ''S'' curve in it where you have to be very careful to be where you're supposed to be. Once you've done it, you'll have no problems. Large yachts commonly spend a night here on their long face dock, so it's not that bad.

Reviews for Point Lookout Marina
Great stop for fuel and pump out. Very good on sight restaurant, 2017-06-05
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (400)

(3 May 2017) Made a brief stop for fuel and pump out. Easy in and out. Fuel dock very accessible. Pump out is on a push cart, but with excellent suction. Docks look old and not in good condition. Looks to be still unrepaired hurricane damage from some time ago. The woman who works the dock is very helpful and knows her business. Certainly would stop again. Had stopped in at the onsight restaurant a couple of nights prior. The food and service were very good.

Comfortable for a night, 2016-09-28
Captain: , Jersey City, NJ (82)

It is a decent stay for an overnight if you are transiting through the area rounding Point Lookout. Deep water once passed the G"3". Our sailboat draws 6ft and all around we saw 12-14 ft water. The restaurant on site is the only thing around. Decent showers/bathroom.

Never again, 2016-08-10
Captain: , Heathsville, VA (20)

Should have known from the start there was going to be a problem. Called Wednesday to make a reservation for Saturday night. Friday I get a call asking what time I was arriving today. Shortly after I got another asking how many slips I would need for my group. "Oh, I must have you confused with someone else". Upon arriving Saturday, we found one dock attendent, who was busy. He yeeled for us to tie up on the creek side of their long pier, which we did. When he finally got over to us he informed us that that was our slip for the night. Do you know how many boats go up and down that creek at night? We do! Found the restaurant friendly but long on promises and short on results.

very nice place , 2016-07-27

65 ' Fairline Squadron SAFE RETURNS
Stayed on a Sunday. Chris tied us up. Good job. Very deep water 10 feet coming in and 10 fee at dock. Restaurant shuts kitchen down at 7:00 pm on Sunday. Not much here but nice stop.

Easy, relaxed stay, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Goose Creek (70)

No depth issues getting into this marina, and the main face dock is solid. Good dock hand helped us in with no issues. We were not expecting it, but there is a very nice pool here, which was much appreciated on a 98-degree day! Frankly, that's why they got the 4 stars! Bathrooms are old but serviceable.
Not much going on here, but there does appear to be a good boat yard, and we were also able to get a propane exchange, which has been kind of hard to find. The restaurant is only open Thurs-Sunday, so if you're planning a visit, you might want to aim for the weekend.

No Loaner Car, 2016-07-23
Captain: , Chesapeake Beach, MD 20732 (200)

Have not been to the marina but just talked to them about tourist sites in the area and they told me they didn't have a loaner car. Some of the earlier reviews spoke of using their loaned car but no more. We wanted to drive to the Light house but at over 7 miles away without a car that locks you into the close area.

Convienent, 2016-07-02
Captain: , Brookhaven, NY (396)

Stayed same night as previous rater ComputerBob (very nice chap!). Got in a little late, and left early to head up the Chesapeake. The bathrooms were certainly adequate, 30 amp available on the first dock but shore side, 50 amp closer to river. Very convient whether transiting Potomac to Chesapeake as we were, or headed up the Chesepeake itself.

A Quite Spot, 2016-06-28
Captain: , Annapolis (125)

After a beat against tide and wind all day we stopped here because it appeared to be close to the Potomac and we just wanted to chill. A few crab pots in the channel between R2 and R4 coming in, but no big deal. The dockmaster was waiting as we came in and helped with everything. We came in close to 6 and the pool was closed, bummer and because it was Tuesday the Restaurant was also closed. A nice quite clean marina.

Docks A-B and facilities are OK, rest needs improvement, 2016-06-27
Captain: , New castle, DE (543)

We visited this marina twice over a course of 2 weeks. First time we docked alongside the A pier and staff was helpful (much needed in 20+ knots wind). Despite the winds, we spent good night by the pier. Second time we had to dock to pier B (no 30 amps electricity there) and then to dillapidated dock C, where only about half of power outlets worked. Common facilities, pathways and A-B docks are kept in good shape. Harbor master is very knowledgeable and helpful person.

Decent hold up, 2015-10-10
Captain: , Castalia NC (110)

We had stopped here on 10/3/15 for 3 days to wait for better weather. Diesel was way over priced at $3.04/gal. But we heard this was one of the few places to get fuel in the area. Resturant was great, docks were fine, but the tidal surge kept them under water for the most part (no fault of the marina). They have repair facilities and were very helpful. Easy to get in and out, would stay again, but not fuel up. Very little in the area. Free loaner car, but it needed some work!! Nice Ace hardware in the area, and West marine was 16 miles away.

nice people, fixed dock, 2015-10-08
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

Stopped on the way going south. Take care going in and follow the marks. Nice people, fixed dock. We did have wifi access. Very quiet.

Good place to wait out weather, 2015-09-26
Captain: , Washington, DC (435)

Courtesy car, skilled dock staff, and protected location; limited 50 amp power and size of fingerpiers make the slips a bit dicey for larger boats.

There was once a good restaurant there but it has been closed on weekdays our last few visits.

Overnight accomodations, 2015-09-20
Captain: , Sue Creek (153)

Nince place and they really try. Dock loaded with bird fces but otherwise very solid. Nothing nearby except Courtney's Restaurant. Get ready for a throw back in time. The marina does offer a loaner car. Like I said, they really try.

GREAT LOCATION, 2015-05-28
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)

We stopped there before heading up the Bay. Easy deep channell, good docks, very well protected from weather. Sam was great. Looks like
big things are about to happen. Large yard with a large travel lift.

December Visit, 2014-12-14
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (650)

We have stayed here before and it is a good marina, with expected facilities. We are now here for a night as we head towards the Bahamas. It is 14 Dec 2014. I know the facilities and the owner, who I know works to make the place special. When he is around it is. However, the dock hand (dockmaster for the day) was not up to the owners standards. He did help hookup electric and two of 4 lines, but as soon as my wife gave him a tip, he left. We finished tiying up and through others on the pier learned there was water available thru a hose on the pier to fill our tanks. A nice benefit in Dec on the Potomac as most marinas have shut off the water; but the dockhand said nothing about it. He wasn't on our side. I was really dissapointed. Next time I come the tip will only be given when we are all complete and we ask questions. And as you might expect it was not a busy day for the dockhand. I guess he did not like the 45 degree temperature.

Surprised , 2014-09-29
Captain: , Lake Ariel, PA (184)

Pulled in on a windy, rainy afternoon. The dock hand, Alex, couldn't have been better. Professionally got us to slip and tied us up perfectly. He couldn't have been more helpful- hooked up elec, took our trash, carried ice to our boat on golf cart, and offered to drive us to a supermarket. Marina is mostly empty, but when word gets out about great service, hopefully this will help.

Good marina, 2014-08-31
Captain: , Fort Monroe, VA (949)

Spent extended period with engine and other repairs. Joe Salvo and his team did a great job getting us back cruising. Daily parts delivery thru Paxton or UPS. A dock has been rebuilt and in great shape. Other docks need TLC. Spinnakers restaurant open Wednesday thru Sunday. Sunday brunch at $10 per is hard to beat. Dockmaster Sam will arrange transportation for groceries, hardware in Ridge. Pool on site. Shower rooms were clean. Would return for maintenance or getting off the Potomac.

Fun stop for a night, 2014-07-25
Captain: , Redondo Beach, CA (260)

This was a fun stop. Staff was friendly. The dock hands were friendly but didn't seem to know much about tying off a boat. Restaurant was ok but staff drama behind the bar. Dock fingers were a little wobbly. Pretty average marina overall. Not much to complain about and not much to write home about.

Easy Access to Potomac, 2013-09-14
Captain: , Austin, TX (346)

Good stopping spot as you come into Potomac with a comparatively short run off the main channel. The one available transcient dock seemed in reasonable condition at least at our slip. A new wooded fixed dock is physically in place but awating utilities completion. Showers, pool, and fuel dock. The restaurant at the marina was closed the evening we were here so we walked over to Cortney's Restaurant. Good sea food in a laid-back environment. Cortney catches some of this himself on a daily basis so it can't get any fresher.

Pass for now!, 2013-08-28
Captain: , Pennsville, NJ (195)

This marina was damaged by Sandy and has not recovered. My finger pier FELL off the docks while we were ties up in the slip! Staff is extremely friendly and helpful but the layout of the marina makes getting to the amenities arduous.

Nice people, clean bath, 2013-06-17
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (350)

This marina is in some need of repair. They lost an entire pier in storm Sandy. The bathrooms were very clean in comparison though, and air conditioned. Everyone was very nice. Dock hand checked in with all transients before he left for the night. They have a pool and free bikes. The restuarant was not top notch, but it suited our needs, and they have a bar. All said, we would probably stay here again if we were in the area.

Good Service Good Food, 2013-06-03
Captain: , Mount Vernon Va (65)

Marina staff were waiting dockside to help where needed. They provided a thorough briefing on the sites facilities and amenities. repeatly checked back to make sure we were pleased. The resturant was very good. Each member of our party was well pleased with there dinner.

Good stopover, 2013-05-28
Captain: , Stafford, VA (1077)

This is a good stopover for boats transiting the Potomac River. There is new ownership of both the marina and the restaurant. The facilities are the same, but they're not bad. 2 other restaurants are 1/2 mile away and the town is about 1 1/2 miles - both easily reachable if you have bikes. The town doesn't have much but it has grocery & hardware stores if you need something. 5/2013 update: The docks are being worked on. We had extremely poor service in the onsite restaurant, and the food wasn't that good either. I recommend you make the half mile walk to Scheible's (it's all flat and an easy walk) instead.

Disappointing, 2013-05-22
Captain: , Port Royal, SC (231)

While staff stayed late to receive us, the dock was a fixed dock in need of repairs (some work ongoing) with pilings banded to keep from disintegrating. Resturant closed. Bath facilities a long walk away.

Basic, but accomodating, 2013-04-07
Captain: , Oriental, NC (40)

We came in after closing, per their invitation, and only met one member of the staff briefly. She was helpful, and the restaurant was handy. The facilities are basic and reflect some deferred maintenance, but met our needs. The restroom/shower facility was clean, and there was a field for tossing the ball for our retrieve-starved lab.

Seen better days, 2012-11-06
Captain: , Wiscasset ME (1435)

Stopped here for fuel which was cheaper than other marinas we called. The marina is in poor shape especially after hurricane sandy. All fixed wood docks that are quite old and some have missing planks. A dock was damaged durring the hurricane. I would stay here in a pinch but will never patronize their repair facility again. Had horrible experience with their service lady and they damaged the keel and scratched the paint on my boat hauling it with their travel lift. Never again.

Just stopped for fuel, 2012-08-17
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

We only stopped here for diesel and ice on our way back north. The appearance of the marina was standard. Noticed many empty slips. Dockhand was helpful. This place has seen better days but appeared to be okay overall.

Off hte beaten path but quiet and pleasant, 2011-10-19
Captain: , Solomons Island, Md (104)

I've got my boat on the hard here and the staff went above and beyond helping me get things squared away. I had to leave before the bottom scraping was done on haulout. When I returned I noticed my outboard was missing. It turns out the staff removed it for me and stowed it in the garage so that it wouldn't grow legs of it's own accord. That, and hete wonderful atmosphere and food at Spinnakers (Sadly, they're only open Thurs-Sun) have made me a big fan and advocate. You'll notice another reveiw where someone's boat was burglarized and that is truly a shame. However, that kind of thing can happen almost anywhere and to downgrade teh marina for it seems unfair to me. Give them a chance. I think you'll like what you find.

Nice little marina, 2011-09-15
Captain: , Melbourne Florida (4616)

I pulled in with my dink to check it out. Nice people and seemed safe to me. The Restaurant was excited to have me stop in. I had a drink (Thursday night is pizza night) and would go back.

Captain: , Great Kills (10)

Vessel was robbed of cash and valuable equipment while we ate at Spinnakers. Only other vessel on pier was a steel-hull used by some lowlife liveaboards. Did not comprehend scope of theft until hours/miles away. If you stay here, don't be naive like me and think that you are safe, in the middle of nowhere in God-loving country. If your boat does not lock up like Ft Knox, BEWARE!

Good prices for overnighting., 2011-07-12
Captain: , Washington, DC (350)

Recommended for all folks.

Good stopover on way from Potomac to Chesapeake, 2011-06-28
Captain: , Delegal Marina (121)

Old but good marina. Staff very friendly and helpful. Docks old, as are bath houses, but showers and restrooms are clean. Restaurant has reasonable food and a nice view as well as friendly staff. Several other restaurants within about a mile. No shopping close by.

Just stopped in for the day, 2011-06-02
Captain: , Newark, DE (250)

Waited for almost an hour after calling ahead for gas. Then the staff wasn't unfriendly, but just very short. Staff at the restaurant was very friendly and very helpful. The food was excellent and the beers were cold!

Solid marina with Decent facilities, needs some work, 2011-04-05
Captain: , Quantico (20)

We stayed overnight and found the place to be totally solid. Helpful staff, good facilities. Mind the chart going in, but closer to water if you are leaving again in the am. Not the Ritz, but no dive either. We would stay there again, no questions.

Second visit this spring found A dock a mess. Power on first post died, second post worked for 10 then reversed polarity and dropped to 60V. Gave up and unplugged. An unhappy second visit.

Good fuel price, 2009-09-06
Captain: , clear lake texas (435)

Fuel price was cheaper the the VA side. Older fixed docks and helpful staff. Will stop in again.

Better than some earlier reviews, 2009-06-27
Captain: , Melbourne, FL (112)

Good stop over. restrooms very clean. Restaurant good food. Most of all friendly people which counts a lot for me.

Potential, 2008-05-23
Captain: , Alexandria VA (59)

Good location for fuel stop. Transient slips are in poor shape. With both the current and wind to deal with docking can be challenging for the unfamiliar and you'll need lots of fenders once tied up. Showers and bath are not great but OK as is the marina restaurant. The local slipholders were very helpful and friendly.
There is very little nearby to see or do.

Bad attitude, 2007-11-01
Captain: , Newport, RI (81)

Incompetent mechanic, nasty personnel, not at all helpful

Okay, 2007-07-09
Captain: , Woodbridge, VA (137)

Very convenient to the mouth of the Potomac. The docks aren't much and there's nothing nearby, but the staff is friendly. The resteraunt has been rebuilt and the one night I had dinner there it was good and priced fair.

If you don't want to be at the dock, there's good anchorage in both Smith's Creek and Jutland Creek.

Disappointed, 2007-06-02
Captain: , WC CO (177)

Docks in bad shape, restaurant has been closed dispite what web site says. Rollers come in through the docks. Not worth the price.
