Reviews for Point Independence Yacht Club
Great Place to refuel and relax, 2016-09-11
Captain: , Buzzards Bay (20)

We stopped at PIYC during our trip through the Canal and were pleasantly surprised with beautiful Onset. We stopped planning to refuel and depart and ended up taking a mooring, eating out and staying the night. Barry and the other members at PIYC were awesome, the diesel price was excellent, the marina was extremely clean, and the mooring was great too. Would definitely stop in again!

Great Place to stay, 2016-08-30
Captain: , Fairhaven (10)

Picked up a ball and Barry the Dock Manager could not have been more helpful to us. Clean facilities and an easy walk to town. Will stay there anytime we are in the area. Quite little harbor.

Beautiful Onset Bay, 2016-08-18
Captain: , Norwell, MA (30)

Onset Bay is a beautiful harbor that's easy and safe to get to by boat, just past Mass Maritime on the canal. No need to deal with the waves of Buzzards.Bay when coming from the east. The Point Independence YC is a convenient, friendly, quiet facility with folks there to help you dock, fuel and pumpout as well as nice showers and restrooms and laundry facilities. It is a 10 minutes walk to Onset Village, a slice of Norman Rockwell Americana with eateries from gourmet (Stonebridge Bar & Grill), to clamlshack on the beach (Shakies), to pizza (Marc Anthony's). Band concerts Wednesdays, canal tour boats, sandy beach, ice cream shops, and more. Slow down, feel the friendly warmth and enjoy a stay from years back.

Great place to grab a mooring, 2014-08-13
Captain: , Bridgeport, CT (548)

I normally anchor nearby but this is a great club to visit during unsettled weather or if you want to do laundry, take a shower or get fuel. The laundry prices are very, very reasonable and the club house is very clean. There is no bar or restaurant in the club but downtown is just a short dinghy ride or walk away. Just grab an open transient mooring and let them know you're there

cheap fuel, 2014-07-20
Captain: , Granby, Ct (22)

fuel is 3.97 gal for diesel 7-20-14
moorings $30.
good clean facilty

Great Club, 2013-11-20
Captain: , Yarmouth, ME (180)

Sailed in from Block Island in Early June of 2013. Plenty of water for our 5.3' draft, great dock service, nearby restaurants, beach, etc. I left my boat in good care at a reasonable rate for a week until I could return.

Captain: , Hingham ma (13)

This is a very welcoming club with about everything you need within a half mile walk. It is convenient to get in and out to catch the right current in the canal.

Great experience!, 2012-09-29
Captain: , Wiscasset ME (1435)

We anchored out but got fuel here. Dockmaster was very helpful. Fuel was 4.09 gal on 29 Sept 2012, cheaper than the marina. They allowed us to use their laundry and fill our water tanks also. Laundry was nice, coin op, two washers three dryers. Showers were right down the hall from the laundry, would have grabbed a shower had I known before hand. Very helpful, nice place to jump in and get fuel etc. They asked us not to dump our trash there so we dropped it at the municipal dock when we went to eat. The yacht club was a very nice place and we'll probably grab a mooring here next time.
42 foot sailboat, 5 1/2 foot draft.

Very Good Experience, 2012-08-04
Captain: , Winthrop, MA (896)

We started our vacation here. We picked up an open mooring and called them with the number. We arrived after hours and left info on machine. They stopped by next morning. We went in for fuel, best prices on the Cape, and the dock master was very helpful. We did not use the facilities so cannot compare exeriences. We have been here many times before and have not had the same experiences as preveious boater.

My experience was different, 2012-07-18
Captain: , Pasadena, MD (1496)

We have friends in the area, so we stopped for land access. This club felt cool and unfriendly to us. Whomever answered the phone gave us bad information about entry navigation and radio contact with the dockmaster. We now know to hail them on VHF09. The dockmaster was OK, but for the brief time it took to get us tied up, seemed distracted. We basically self-docked. We were told in no uncertain terms that we were not welcome in the "Members Only" club house. There is no reciprocity with YCOA yacht club mambers. There is a small, clean laundry. There is a shower inside the laundry/restroom area and a stall-only shower that is accessible from outside, but not inside, the building. It was a pricey night with below par service.

Captain: , Kittery Point, ME (101)

Nice place. Very helpful dockmaster. Entered there on a windy, rainy day (small craft warnings in Buzzards Bay) in August 2011. Dockmaster helped us get in and hook up in the pouring rain. The showers were spacious and very clean. Nice docks, reasonably priced diesel. Laundry facilities clean and well kept. Just a short walk to down town where there are a few restaurants. Had pizza delivered!

Point Independence Yacht Club, 2011-03-04
Captain: , Lynn, MA (232)

Perfect stop after or before the canal, or Buzzards Bay, Town is a short walk or dingy ride to the town dock. Fuel is lowest price in the area. The club has clean showers and rest rooms, and a nice beach right at the end of the dock. Great spot for kids. Do not miss the fish fry if you are there on Friday. Food is tops and price is right.

Pretty Harbor, 2010-07-26
Captain: , Morehead City (160)

We stayed on a mooring for only one night ($30) because we were going through the Cape Cod Canal the next day so we didn't even get off the boat. They came over to collect our money so we didn't need to get the dingy down. Nice little harbor.

Fuel up at PIYC, 2008-01-24
Captain: , Cape Cod MA (4)

Lowest priced fuel in the area. Helpful dock attendants.

A good place to stop, 2007-08-03
Captain: , Boston (601)

Friendly, helpful staff. I like it as a nice overnight place to relax before or after the canal. Onset is a quiet town without much going on... that's good or bad depending on your point of view.

Good value marina, 2007-02-18
Captain: , Chesapeake (261)

We spent a night there and took on fuel. Dock hands very accomodating.
