Reviews for Poets Cove Marina at Bedwell Harbor
New Management - Much Improved, 2016-08-13
Captain: , Seattle, WA (577)

This place is coming back from a bad couple of years. The marina staff was very helpful and competent. Facilities were nice. Both the main high-end restaurant and bar are fully open with much better service and high food quality. Family pool was very crowded, kids had a terrific time. We stayed in the hotel which was also run much better than last year. Will come back.

A nice stop while cruising, 2016-07-13
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

Docks were in good shape and power and water was available. A bit of a walk to get to the pool, restrooms and showers. The restrooms and showers could have been a little better kept. As is common pay the Loony and you get a hot shower. The pub food was fair. The restaurant looked nice but seemed a bit pricey for us. Great spot if you like walking and hiking.

Dread Poet's Cove, 2015-09-06
Captain: , Vancouver, BC (94)

What a beautiful & peaceful location. It is quiet and very out of the way. The amenities are associated with the resort so reflect an 'upscale' grade of amenities. The docks are generally clean and are newish. Much better condition than Browning and other gulf island docks.

The docks and mooring field are protected from the normal prevailing winds.

I had no issues with the staff while I was there. Service at the pub was excellent. Our waitress was extremely attentive and capable.

Visited 4 Aug 15.
We checked in to Canada and stayed a full day at Poets cove.
Busy and nice place. Wife had a spa day and swimming was available for the kids.
No review for restaurant or market as we didnt visit them.
We will go again.

Loved this place, 2015-08-08
Captain: , Sidney Harbor (20)

We spent last night at the dock and had a blast. They were friendly and welcomed us to their island. The food was good although pricey and they have two pools and hot tubs, one with and one without kids. They welcomed us to use the pools and hot tubs and we enjoyed soaking in the hot water. We didn't anchor here, however, it had plenty of place to anchor which we may do next time so we could use our dingy to explore the island. I will come back.....

Agree with Spector .... very average service, plus very expensive. Next time it's Port Browning .... much "happier" place.

Has lots of potential, 2015-07-08

Nice facilities, too bad the service doesn't match. They need to at least pretend they want you there.

Seemed good to us, 2015-05-14
Captain: , San Diego (301)

We spent a night at this resort after clearing customs. Good facility, the pub food was good overall and the place looked very clean and upkept. New paint and landscaping going in as they stated that the place was booked for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Good water on the docks, no pumpout, good wifi and nice service made this a good one night stop between anchorages.

better options available, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Blaine WA (101)

New owners and the place is running downhill. PC has all the facilities but I find the staff is at best indifferent. Restrooms at the pool are disgustingly dirty. Busy, crowded spot if you like that sort of thing. I prefer Otter Bay or Port Browning by far.

Re-opened Poets Cove, 2014-08-07
Captain: , snohomish (30)

Did not eat at restaurant, just got fuel. Pool and restrooms open, cafe upstairs open for coffee, latte's, etc, few candy bars. Licensed cooler is still there with beer. Place kind of a shadow of its former self.

Reopening soon, 2014-04-07
Captain: , Mercer Island, WA (40)

We were planning to head up to Poet's this past weekend. Called ahead and found out they were closed up completely. Apparently reopening in Thursday. Seemed rather odd.

We wound up going to port browning on North spender Island. We were told by the locals that the owner was losing money so completely closed Poet's last fall (2013), with hopes to sell and no plan to reopen at all.

Fortunately, the resort sold and will be open again by next weekend. It will be interesting to see how it turns out! Hopefully the new owners do well, and we also heard they are doing a lot of hiring right now if anyone you know needs a summer job.

Great location - closed for winter, 2013-11-12

Enjoyed their last brunch on Sunday October 27, 2013. Walked the road through fall colours.
Marina was quiet

Great Little Marina - Restaurant Not So Much, 2013-09-18
Captain: , Daniel Island, SC (310)

Helpful dockhands in a delightful setting. Restaurant's food quality was disappointing. Excellent uncrowded location to clear Canadian Customs.

An unusually luxurious Marina, 2013-08-11
Captain: , Vancouver (282)

Excellent attentive staff (and lots of them) plus access to pool and hot tub, pub, bistro, fine dining and spa makes this destination distinct from most marinas. Our only complaint would be that the showers are inside the changerooms used by poolgoers (many of whom are hotel guests or visitors) and on a hot summer's day they are heavily used with the result that floors etc get pretty mucky. Showers are cleaned between 7:00 and 8:00 each day, so 8:00 is a good time to enjoy the otehrwise excellent showers.

The best port of entry into Canada from the US, 2013-06-18
Captain: , Anacortes, WA (220)

This is a great place to stop and stay for a while. Every year we come here to clear Customs (just a quick phone call from the Customs dock).

The approach into Bedwell Harbour from Haro Strait is very open, deep, and clearly marked. Poet's Cove (adjacent to the Customs dock) is just to starboard as you enter Bedwell Harbour. Be mindful of the float plane space on the Customs dock...

Poet's Cove is a true resort with first class facilities and a really great (expensive) restaurant.

The docks are a bit aged, but quite serviceable. We tend to prefer to anchor out in the Harbour (well protected) to avoid the pricey sllip fees.

Beautiful scenery and a great bay to kayak around. Lots of interesting geology and tide pools.

A nice marina, windy docking a challenge, 2013-04-11
Captain: , Port Angeles, WA (130)

We came with the strong winds. There were two of us, 36 foot sailboat and our 24' powerboat. Staff helped the sailboat while we circled around in the wind. Rough docking for the 36. We have trouble in wind also due to high cabin so staff helped us alongside our sailing partners. Once docked, the dinner at the restaurant was very good. This is a worthwhile stop to consider in your cruising.

Outstanding resort marina - convenient customs clearance, 2012-11-29
Captain: , Seattle (250)

Poet's Cove is a great place to stop, especially for those of us cruising north into British Columbia's Gulf Islands, and beyond. Beautiful location, fine facilities (including a pool, hot tub, restaurant, bistro, and full-service spa), and good dock infrastructure. Even deer which wander down from surrounding hills to the waterfall feature into the resort gardens. The attentive young staff are delightful. You can certainly check in at customs and be on your way, but Poet's is well worth the stay.

Very Pretty, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Bozeman, MT (740)

Snug and pretty marina. Nice people, fun to walk the small docks. Swimming is great in the pool and the food is pretty good.

Good marina, bad connectivity, 2012-09-13
Captain: , Bellingham, WA (77)

Docks and facilities very good. Power and water for every slip. Slips can be tricky to get into in strong northwest winds. In September the dock staff seems to be minimal so docking assistance may not be available. Pub and restaurant excellent. Only negative aspect is extremely weak and intermittent wifi. Customs clearance is via a bank of phones unless officers in the office are instructed to examine your boat.

A Great Place, 2012-08-22
Captain: , Seattle, WA (20)

We visited in early September, and as the summer rush was over the pool and hot tub area was occupied by mostly adults which made it a quiet and restfull place to spend the afternoon. Food service on the deck was very good with a pleasnt view of the harbor. All in all we would highly recommend it. A warm and friendly atmosphere.

Favorite Sot for Customs, 2012-07-08
Captain: , Port Angeles, WA (110)

Very convenient spot to clear Canadian customs. Agents are friendly and professional. Marina is a great place to stop over and stock up on liquid refreshments and make use of the resort facilities. (Wife indulged herself with a massage at the spa)

Really nice quiet pace- with fun for the kids!, 2012-06-19
Captain: , Novelty, WA (214)

Great marina, great staff, decent "community" feel of other boaters offering to help and to chat. Water on severe restriction was known and planned for- no big deal. Power was good, wifi apparently wasn't. Not that I cared, but the people beside us did! Update June 2012- power upgrades coming in 2013, but the power dipped to 106v at times... Not good for equipment. We fired up generator to cook breakfast- stove, toaster, and microwave running concurrently was too much for shore power. Once the big boats at end of dock left, power quality improved.

The pool is FANTASTIC for the kids- it has a shallow end and that worked really well for us. However, other reviewers mention how they can't stand the pool b/c of the noise- they would be right and I understand that if you don't care for the ruckus of kids, this pool will NOT work for you! But for us- perfect and welcome! Update June 2012 - towels are no longer included- bring your own!

We ate dinner at the restaurant/pub with the family. Serving staff was GREAT- but the food took FOREVER. Not smart with kids eating late after a long day on the water. We had multiple melt-downs and it bordered on ridiculous. Update June 2012.... Staff still great, but now the food arrives in a very reasonable time! Even with a wedding reception competing for kitchen time, this was a big change from last August.

The food was good though- and still good on the return visit.

In my limited exposure, Poet's Cove is my #2 stop- and definitely my favorite stop to enter Canada and handle custom's- it was easy, good dock, and well organized. One thing to watch out for- the pilings are inside the slips, making for an interesting object to avoid when docking.

Would absolutely recommend it and will be back!

Maybe the ultimate!, 2011-09-01

Now you are talking! Check into Canada right at the Marina. Then go have a soak in the hot tub while keeping your eye on the view and your yacht moored below. Good shopping and restaurants

Great spot to refresh in hot tub and pool. The Spa has its own sauna and hot tub. Good food.

POETS COVE, 2011-03-09
Captain: , Sidney BC (582)

Visited here over half a dozen times, it is more expensive and worth the price, great swimming pool, lovely docks and good restaurant make this a favourite stopping point. Usually very friendly dock staff. Right next to the Gulf Islands National Park anchorage.

Customs at Bedwell, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Anacortes, WA (282)

Canadian Customs has a dock at Poet's Cove, Bedwell Harbor. Access to the dock is easy, stay clear of the "seaplane only" area marked in red on the dock.
Canadian Customs is in the small building at the head of the stairs. The officers are always professional and courteous. Have your ship's papers in order.

Relaxing visit, 2010-09-02
Captain: , Seattle, WA (437)

Poet's Cove is a very relaxing place to visit. Quiet cove when we were there. Entertaining to watch the customs dock. Surprisingly good food at the nice restaurant and pretty good at the Pub. Pool and hot tub were full of kids, so we didn't venture in.

We were on the outer leg of the dock and rolled a lot.

Excellent quality services, 2010-02-24
Captain: , Sidney, BC, Canada (162)

What we like: upper hot tub pool in natural stone is great treat in winter time, book a massage and relaxin the steam cave. Pub serves great food and the restaurant provides classy dinner opportunities.

Wonderful place to stay, 2010-01-20

Poets Cove is both a marine resort and a hotel. The hotel has some very nice dining opportunities. The pub has a nice outdoor deck.
