Reviews for Playboy Marine Center
GREAT yard!, 2017-06-24
Captain: , East Coast, USA (10)

I enjoy this yard because it is smaller and the facilities and people are GREAT! Easy in, no bridges, and they have great contractors there when you need them!

Wonderful staff, 2017-04-17
Captain: , Miami (10)

Hauled out for bottom paint. Staff was great, guys on the crane were fast and good, location was clean and well taken care of. Only gave it 4 stars because you have to buy your paint and supplies from them and they're more expensive than West Marine. Felt a little nickle and dimed. I will definitely be back the next time I'm due for paint.

WTF - guilt by association, 2016-04-13

This yard came highly rated and we planned to haul out there for a few days to re-pitch the prop, replace the zincs, and do an oil change and some minor engine work.

When I called they were very nice on the phone and all was going well until I told them that we had a J-42. I was promptly told that "we don't do race boats".

Our J-boat is outfitted as a cruising boat and has been used that way since we bought it in 2008. We have over 36,000 miles under the keel, including 3 years in the south pacific.

Unfortunately, my arguments to this effect fell on deaf ears. I suspect they've been lied to in this regard before. Is a lighter weight Beneteau 40.7 also a race boat?

So, if they get the idea that you have a race boat, you're out of luck.

Like a NASCAR pit crew for boats, 2016-02-29

We developed a leak in the rudder post and needed a Haulout to drop the rudder and make repairs. We had an appointment for haul out at 1:00 Monday.

By 1:30, we were on the hard and interviewing mechanics onsite to help us with the project. BTW, the cost for Haulout, pressure wash and relaunch was $200 for our 36' sailboat. Storage was $22/day.

Since we were being hauled, we added more work to the punch list: raise the waterline, paint, install a transducer, etc.

We hired Patagonia Services to help us. Before the day was out, the boat was prepped for dropping the rudder the next day, and sanding the bottom.

NOTE: living aboard is not allowed. But, since the yard is right next to the Ft. Lauderdale airport, there is no shortage of reasonable hotels within 2 miles. Plus, all the major marine parts suppliers are within a 4 mile radius.

Long story short, we were splashed Thursday at 4:00. Leandro from Patagonia, went down in the boat with us to ensure the repairs worked (we had to have some parts made locally, since the rudder gear was manufactured in Denmark!)

Can't say enough about Playboy and the team of independent contractors working there. For us, they set the benchmark for how marine repairs should be managed and executed.

Great DIY yard, 2012-05-23

Very professional staff. Competitive pricing. Prompt service, in and out with no delays. In fact, their prices go up the longer you stay. Can stay on your boat, easy hook-up for water and electricity. Knowledgable contractors available for any kind of work. I will always haul here.

Great Yard. Very professional. They have good contractors or you can do your on work. Bottom Job on our boat 1-3-2012 by "Done Deal Yacht Services". In and out and on budget. Very reasonable prices. No surprizes. Will have my work done here from now on.

Put in for some repairs and I was very pleased with the facility, clean, neat and well organized. The people were very helpful and the entire staff was great.

Not cheap for longer term., 2010-08-28
Captain: , NYC, USA (80)

This yard is less expensive than other marinas for haulouts of a few weeks or so but it gets much more expensive when your boat is there longer term. Carefully check the rate sheet before you go.

Best DIY Yard in FT L area, 2008-12-19
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3215)

Well run, clean, secure yard for DIY work. Good list of off site contractors for doing work.

Cheaper than the big guys. Only one 80T (?) travelift. Somewhat draft limited, maybe 7 feet.
