Reviews for Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina
Comfortable place and great staff, 2016-06-29
Captain: , Delray Beach, Fl (60)

Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina is a great place to stay. The facilities are very good and the staff is excellent. Fuel prices are reasonable. My only reservation in giving the marina a 5 star rating is that there isn't much around it. Only one restaurant in walking distance and no grocery or convenience stores near by. Taxis are avaiable but pricing seems random.

Great Place, 2016-04-28
Captain: , Jensen Beach FL (40)

Spent a month at PHYM and I can not say enough about it. Nice People, Clean facilities, Pool, tennis courts pet facilities, lauch ramp fuel ice and super clean (air conditioned) showers and restroomSafe and a great place to spend a month or a season. The only negative I have would be that due to its popularity it is virtually impossible to score an annual contract. Nevertheless I plan on comming back next year for at least a month.

Its a far hike for provisions but resteraunts/bars etc and easily accessable by tender and transportation is readily available by local taxi or UBER.

I was a little apprehensive on the add-on charges (metered water and electric) but was pleasantly supprised on check out that theyy were simply pass-throughs not profit centers.

Overall a very fine experience

Excellent facility, 2016-04-05
Captain: , currently Plantation Yacht Harbor, Islamorada, Fla. Keys (4407)

04/216 update: after 6 months, can't say enough about PYH. We will return in October for another wonderful winter in Islamorada.

10-2015 update: We have moved here for at least the next four months and have found the staff and facility to exceed our already high expectations. The only negative thus far has been that the Wi-Fi is spotty. On the other hand, a pleasant surprise since we've been here is the friendliness of the marina community. Only the relative isolation keeps this from being a 5 star marina.

As the previous review stated, this is a quality operation, now owned by the Village of Islamorada. Good protection, excellent docks with pump-out at each slip, all inside a well-kept and popular city park. The prices reflect a premium operation. Rating would be higher except that the area is rather far from restaurants, grocery and marine parts stores. Aso, be aware that the park hosts a nautical flea market the last weekend in February that is attended by huge crowds. Given there is only one road through the Keys, travel is jammed for miles in each direction all weekend long.

Excellent marina, friendly staff, 2015-05-06
Captain: , port canaveral (30)

Spotless super clean marina. Pumpout at every slip is very convenient. Located inside Founders Park, complete with 2 huge dog walks....one for big dogs, one for small. Beautiful beach, huge pool, convenient boat ramp, supports re-cycling, tennis courts, super clean bathrooms. Besides all that, the staff is very accomodating and friendly.

Not a great stop for transients, 2015-05-04
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (1288)

I really wanted to give Plantation Yacht Harbor Marne more stars, but the fact that it's isolated by Keys standards and there's no restaurant within walking distance makes this a non-starter for most transients. To be sure, the marina is modern and well-maintained, the entry is easy, and the staff is friendly. They have fuel (both diesel and non-ethanol gasoline). However, there was nobody on the dock to take a line when we docked and the welcome was only so-so. There is a very nice dog-walking area not far from the head of the pier. There's a little more than the advertised five feet (Big Sign Saying Five Feet in the Marina at the Entrance), but if you draw more ask for a deeper slip on the outer face dock. Eccellent electric (included in the slip price), and that was good because it was REALLY hot for our visit and our air conditioning ran 24/7.

Bottom line: better marina stops a few miles away. If you must stop at Plantation Key, consider anchoring (good holding right outside the marina) and saving your marina dollars for a marina that offers more.

Excellent Dockage - Friendly People, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Stuart (41)

This dockage is very clean and has lots of amenities for transient boaters. There is a small beach (rare in the Keys), tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields, and a fabulous olympic size swimming pool. There are also laundry facilities and showers for marina guests. All very clean by the way. Would stay there again!

Hidden Gem, 2015-02-05
Captain: , Breckenridge, CO (21)

Accommodating staff & management. Sea wall/mangroves offer good protection on most of the 'long' dock. Adjacent Founders Park provides many amenities. WiFi sketchy at best, but improvements promised. Tiki hut with gas grills is a good gathering place.

Don't miss the fireworks, 2014-07-23
Captain: , Islamorada, Florida (262)

Beautiful Marina with exceptional facilities. Olympic size pool with high dive. We are there every Fourth of July. Excellent fireworks display.

Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina Islamorada, 2014-03-22
Captain: , Sandwich (692)

A municipal owned/operated marina in a protected 42-acre multi-functional town park. Nice docks with excellent WiFi. Clean bath/shower and laundry rooms. Olympic size pool ($2/person/day), tennis courts, walking trails, beach, cookout tikihuts, boat ramp and outdoor amphitheater. Dog friendly. Host to WoofFest. Spectacular sunsets. Come with provisions. Very long walk to stores or restaurants.

Plantation Yacht Harbor, 2014-03-20
Captain: , Melbourne FL (40)

What a wonderful marina with a very friendly and helpful staff. The marina is actually located in Founders Park, a recreation area run by the city of Islamorada. The park has jogging/walking trails, an olympic size pool, a beach, tennis, restrooms/showers and laundry facilities available to the marina residents. There is also an outdoor stage where they hold concerts and other events. This is truly a wonderful stop - only negative is availability (mostly long term residents) and a long way to a restaurant or store - you need a car or use the local taxi.

Great spot new dock masters , 2014-01-29
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1663)

Forget the negative reviews about the Dockmaster, he is gone for several yrs hence the better most recent reviews.Everything was really good,$2.75/ft, good power and water pressure. New very clean bathrooms and showers. Best fuel prices we have seen, $4.37 for diesel", have non ethanol 90 octane gas, $4,49/gal, great park, heated Olympic pool, hard tennis courts, basketball courts, softball, tourist information center on site, Dockmaster met us and help with an issue we were having, offer listing of mechanics available in area $21/ft Minthly rate

Great Place, 2013-09-18
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens (10)

I docked my boat here for six weeks this summer. The marina is first class and the staff are all great. It was nice having all the extra ammenites that the surrounding park offers. Many of the boats at the marina came for short stays and never left. I was sad to have to leave but I will definately return again.

Great stop in the Keys, 2013-08-16
Captain: , Acworth, GA (225)

Run by the city of Islamorada, but has very friendly employees. We had a little trouble raising them on channel 16 but were able to reach them on the phone. Be careful on the approach and get specific instructions from them BEFORE leaving the ICW. Lots of shallow water in Cowpens anchorage and you need to avoid it to get in and out safely. When we came through, there was a mine field of crab or lobster traps, so keep a sharp lookout. Rented a car from Thrifty for a couple of days and they allowed us to leave it with the marina on our day of departure. Pump outs at your slip, but the bathrooms and laundry are a short hike away. Very clean facility in all areas. There is nothing in the immediate area without a car or at least a bicycle. No marina bikes or other transportation available except for rental cars. Pet friendly. Will definitely return.

We will return., 2013-05-22
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (185)

Good staff. Nice facility. Fuel, pool, good laundry. We stopped on our way to Key West for some protection from bad weather and made a choice to stop on the way back as we liked the place and the people. Slip-holders are friendly.

Islamorada stop, 2013-04-27
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (880)

Beautiful location but a long ways from anything. Nice docks, pump out at slip, great laundry and wifi, clean showers and restrooms. Aquatic center on the property and tennis courts, all part of the 42 acres of park. Minimal fee. Dog park and pet friendly. Island Grille and Green Turtle Inn good restaurants, about 2-3 miles away. Need a car or taxi. Good biking on the OLD highway to the north towards Tavernier-very safe. Found a True Value, Winn Dixie, CVS. Need a car for West Marine.

Great Facility + Convenient Location, 2013-04-22
Captain: , Browns Cove, MD (402)

We stopped here on our way to Key West. Well maintained, clean with nice facilities. Staff was super helpful and nice. Local taxis to and from restaurants nearby were very easy and affordable. Fantastic pool, beach area, tennis courts and fixed concrete piers with substantial molded rubber protection. We used fenders but really didn't even need to add to what was there. Also convenient pump out right at our slip made for an easy and convenient stop. No complaints whatsoever other than perhaps a little isolated from a lot of activity.

Our Favorite, 2012-12-04
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (61)

Hard to beat the facilities, location, etc. Wind protection is excellent particularly at the bulkhead slips. Gas grills are available at the bulkhead slips and the staff is friendly and accomodating. You do need to drive to shopping and restaurants.

Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina, 2012-04-04
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale FL (167)

I Stayed there before and after it became Founders Park. Before there was a nice resturant with good food and atmosphere. The marina was very nice and protected, no rocking at night. After they did away with the resturant but the manina is still very nice.

Modern, clean, helpful staff, 2012-02-17
Captain: , Wanakena, NY (619)

Out of our usual price range but well maintained. Lots of summer activities but no local shopping, very limited restaurants.
Very intersting art colony next store. Great fresh coffee and baked goods.
Met many loopers wainting for spring.

Great stop, 2011-05-15
Captain: , New Orleans, LA (40)

One night stay 12 May 2011 on long slog moving boat from Jacksonville to Florida panhandle. Marina in great condition, pump out at each slip, helpful staff. Rather a long walk to the showers, but they were clean and nice. Abuts public athletic parks and fields. No nearby groceries. Pricey @ $2.50 a ft, but includes elec.

Marina with a Park, 2011-04-24
Captain: , Deerfield Beach, FL (60)

This marina is situated in Founder's Park. There is an Olympic pool, skate park for the kids, tennis courts, ball fields, beach, even a dog park. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The showers and laundry are very clean as is the whole marina.

Very good facility, 2011-03-30
Captain: , Morristown, NJ (383)

Yes the rate does seem 'high' but there are no hidden costs, elec, pump out, water , etc that you will find at other marinas in the Keys. To us it seemed a more than reasonable rate. During our stay we went to visit various marinas in the area. This marina is in the best condition. Docks are great, pumpout at the slip! There is a however a 5' entrance, so the depth sounders do go off. We found the facilities for a city marina to be top notch. Pool (not free but they give you a day rate), showers, park, laundry and beach. Ths is the first marina that we found the laundry room to be air conditioned and at 90 degrees outside this was a blessing. Machines were $2 wash and $2 dry with sufficient time to dry the first time. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous. You can rent a car for your stay at Thrifty. Their cars were impeccable, and at this marina they will pick you up and then you just leave the car at the marina with the keys to the dockmaster. Very boater convenient. The marina is small so there isn't many slips available, definitely call ahead. They are boater frendly but there space is economically well used, that's why no dinghy dock.

Great Marina, 2011-03-28
Captain: , Hawesville,Ky (371)

Accomodating staff, friendly locals, wonderful facilities and nearly everything you need slipside (Including delicious pizza from the local Dominos). Didn't try out the athletic facilities, but they were plentiful. Only two showers, the one to the rear has better waterpressure and is the obvious choice. Laundry room isn't new, but it's got good (but a little pricey) washers and driers. About a half mile walk to the local sportsbar, but a new jersey style resteraunt, and chinease resteraunt will willingly deliver. Dockmaster is kind, but the rest of the staff is slightly less than accomidating. They are happy to accomodate sailboats, but limits are placed by the draft of the vessel.

Fantastic Staff, 2011-03-24
Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

Very clean and well maintained facility. Nice to have a pool in park. Prices for fuel and dockage was just a bit high but we had no problem geting into the harbour. Water depth is minimal but is consistant from the ICW into the harbour. The staff are very helpful and wifi is available at the shelter. I just thought that for a city ran place that the price was high.

Nicest Marina in the middle keys, 2011-02-07
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (222)

This newly rebuilt marina is part of Founders Park, a city park that features many amenties such as an olympic size pool, basketball courts, baseball fields, soccor fields, fitness trail, a beach with rental boats available and a dog park. There are also a golf drive range, an amphitheater that featured a dance troupe one night and a guitarist on another. At the end of February they tell me that a large marine consignment event will take place. There are several restaurants within walking distance although none right on site. If you need a rental car Thrifty will pick you up. A couple of local restaurants offer delivery service. Gas and diesel are available. The dockmasters have been quite helpful and competent and even offered me the use of their own computer printer when I needed access to one. Beautiful sunsets and friendly dock folks. The only reason I can't give this a 5 star is that there is no supermarket within walking distance although it would only take a short cab ride to solve that small problem.

Nice Quiet Marina, 2011-02-06
Captain: , Charlotte Harbor, FL (321)

We stayed a month and wished we had come in here early. Skinny water coming in but we just did it a high tide. They have pool, tennis courts, new bathrooms and laundry, pump out a the dock, water and electric extra but reasonable for Florida.

No to sailors, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Beaufort Morehead Yacht Club (221)

Would not accommodate sailboats according to phone conversation with their office.

Great place, 2011-01-27
Captain: , Ocean Reef (111)

As one of the displaced Cajuns from Louisiana after Deepwater Horizon, this place has been great to us. Easy access (if you can get use to water where you can see bottom, unlike Louisiana), beautiful location, good service on fuel dock. Been very helpful in trying to find or suggesting any maintenance help for boat, saw negative review, really surprised, has not been my experience.

Very rude behavior, 2010-12-21
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (555)

We anchored our GB-46 in Cowpens Anchorage for the night and wanted to meet old friends that live in a oceanfront house nearby in Islamorada. We took our dinghy into the marina and politely asked if we could tie up our dinghy for an hour while we met with our friends. The answer was a very unfriendly no! Not even for a few minutes! Our friends intervened and talked to the dockmaster with the same results. Offers to pay for docking the dinghy didn't fly with them either. Both the dockmaster and assistant were beyond rude to all of us. So...if you plan on anchoring nearby, don't even bother to ask about coming in with the dinghy. You would think a city owned marina would have some provisions for visiting yachtsmen in dinghies to come in, pay a fee, tie up and visit Islamorada.

Update several days later: In spite of what the cranky dockmasters told us, there is a nearby dinghy dock at the Oceanview Inn & Sports Pub just south of the Bay side enterance tp Snake Creek. It's fine to anchor out and dinghy in for lunch or dinner, or just a cold beer at their bar. The folks there are friendly to cruisers, dog friendly, and just plain nice as opposed to the greeting we received at Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina.

Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (5)

One of the best Marinas in the Keys. Clean facilities and great docks with pump out at each slip. Very helpful dock hands. Nice sand beach and playground for kids. Only minus is it is a mile walk to nearest restaurant;.

Has potential but still needs work...., 2008-03-19
Captain: , Duluth, MN (9)

Under construction so needs additional improvements like better laundry. On the other hand, new wide docks with cable, pump-out + the usual elec, etc. Nice folks. Nice grounds if you're going to stay awhile. Far from restaurants, grocery, etc so you have to rent a car. Price of $3/ft seemed high for just an overnight stay...

Best marina in the upper keys..., 2008-03-04
Captain: , Miami, fl (3544)

one of my favorite long week end destination in the Upper Keys! Pool, park, backet ball court, beach, etc... .great for kids. Friendly staff.

I guess prices went up , like everywhere else, but still in decent value at $3 a ft... They had a limited number of slips in 2007/early 2008 due to repair and construction, after hurricane damage.

Nice, but worth it?, 2008-02-18
Captain: , fairland (2653)

Great facility, in Founders Park. But $3.00/ft, geez....
