Reviews for Pirate's Marina Cove
a good place to stop, 2017-06-23
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (40)

We saw 9ft. Although old it is a fine place to stop and the staff go out of there way to make our stay pleasant. We would stop here again.

Convenient marina, 2017-05-12
Captain: , Norfolk (100)

We have stopped here for years due to secluded, peaceful location off the river. Friendly staff, good power and water and cheap dockage. Sadly, it has gotten more neglected each time. No upkeep or investments in docks. They are the worst we have seen in 7 years of boating! You take your life in your hands using the loaner car. The worst!

Peaceful and friendly, 2016-12-06
Captain: , Bedford, NH (775)

The docks are old and a little rickety, power was fine and there was water. Didn't use thier facilities but they do have them. People were very helpful and friendly. Gave us a loaner car to go into town to provision and eat. Shouldn't expect a 5 star marina in this part of the route but it has everything you need and people that are willing to get you anything that they don't have.
I would definitely stay here again. There is some shoaling as you make the turn into the marina approach. Stay more to starboard on the way in. Plenty of water once you get past that. We are 50' and draft 3.5'

A wasted stop, 2016-10-15
Captain: , North Point Marina (40)

9/27/16 Radioed ahead, they said they had 12' depth and could sell me 100 gallons of diesel. They only had 5' depth and I went throught mud, ran out of diesel at 45 gals, a wasted stop and do not recommend it!

HIghest fuel price on whole trip from Lake Michigan to Fort Myers Florida paid $3.00 gallon, 2016-10-07
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach (20)

Not much in town except snack bar in Marathon station that did have surprisingly good burgers according to my crew, I am a vegetarian, nothing on the menu I eat. Michael and Jeannie McGunnis, new managers of one week, were exremely friendly, hope they stay there. Except for the fuel price it is a good stop just before Tom Bevill lock, for the night

A quite interesting place, 2016-08-10
Captain: , Guntersville, AL (54)

Came in one one engine due to mechanical issues and were met by four locals to help us dock. Ed Orton, owner was very accommodating to our needs and arranged for Danny the mechanic to meet us in the morning. Danny diagnosed and fixed our problem quickly and was reasonably priced. While not your nicest facility the folks went out of their way to help. I'd stop again if just to see how it's changed. Ed said new docks are expected in the next two weeks! Apparently this is a continuous promise.

Very old marina & in much need of repairs, 2016-08-03
Captain: , Wilington, DE (32)

Wow how do I start this. Saying the the docks are in bad shape is too generous. The first night we stayed a dock board pulled up with the cleat attached. They told me not to worry they hove it fixed first thing in the mornining, they just didn't say what morning.
The electrial post are burnd out on part of them, and are ALL rusted off from the dock mounts. Some are even tied on with ropes.
One night three of us were standing at the enf of the tee dock see if the boat that just tied up needed any help, a youn lady steped of the boat and the entire tee dock sank 3 ft.

Thy do not have covered docks as advertised, and do not have a curtisity car. Therefire, there is no way to get to town to get any supplies.

6/20/2016 Nothing fancy, but protected bay and Alice lake is huge, 2016-06-28
Captain: , Kuttawa Kentucky (410)

Docks a little rough, but I like this place for the piece and quiet, courtesy car if you need one. Joe will do what ever he can to help in anyway. I would like to stay here for a month just to check out Alice lake and do some fishing. Nothing fancy, but this is what I like.

Andante 5-27-2016, 2016-05-30
Captain: , Riverton, AL (80)

We had the 8-10 ft depth as advertised.

The docks are ancient, rickety and very low. There is 30/50 amp service available. There is a loaner car. The Marina is very well protected from the weather and has a well-marked entrance.

These are friendly people who will help if they can. Just don't expect a five star marina.

diesel fuel, 2016-05-12
Captain: , Chicago (30)

Does not have much capacity and wants $3.00 when normal prices are $2.47. If you need it, he will go get it and that's reasonable

A marina with character., 2015-11-09
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (728)

This is a rustic marina with older low docks but we were told the new docks would be in "next month". We had plenty of water getting in on 10/28/15 and we draw 4.5'. Also had help getting tied up in a stiff wind. Would stop here again.

Good stop, Old marina, easy in and out, 2015-11-06
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Old very low floating docks, 30 and 50amp power. Excellent help docking. Did not use any facilities.
A friend drove our boat aground the next day and Pirates Cove immediately came to our rescue. $150/hr which will be reimbursed by Boat US. We were going again 20 min after they arrived to help. Excellent service!

10/23/15 Pirates Marina Cove, 2015-10-24
Captain: , warm waters (828)

Friendly, helpful staff. Ed (owner) helped tie up and Pam (office) made sure we had everything we needed for the night. Docks in rough shape but serviceable. 7' depth at entrance, 8' at dock. No lights on docks. As most of our anchorage options were silted in or filled with debris, this was a good place to land. The Bevill Lock is just across from marina. We called the lockmaster in the evening to ask about the best course of action in the morning. He was kind and helpful. Pirates Cove is perfectly situated to get to the lock quickly if it's clear or wait if there is a delay. $1 foot. 10% Looper discount.

Skinny approach....., 2015-10-18
Captain: , Port Huron, MI (30)

There is NOT 9 feet at the entrance. I tried three different approaches and ran out of water for a 5 ft draft. The marina was not helpful in terms of coaching us in and offered no guide. Their advice was to just keep pushing and that we would find deeper water inside. I don't plow mud to reach a marina! We moved to an anchorage near the lock and spent a comfortable night.

Rustic, Has Character and Friendly, 2015-10-14
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1392)

We knew from previous reviews what to expect. But we wanted to stop and Visit the Tom Bevin Management Resource Center just a short distance away from Marina. Ed the Owner is a world of local knowledge and Civil War History. It has to be the quietest, serene place you can visit. Very Friendly Staff and neighbors. You really need to stop here and enjoy the "Step Back in Time" Owner still planning to install new docks. Very Quiet, peaceful place. No Problem with our 5 ft draft
Chief Engr Bob Onboard ALLEZ!

Rural Alabama, 2015-06-22
Captain: , charleston (771)

Marina is truly a step back in time. Rural and rustic. Docks are in poor condition but adequate. Baathooms were clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had hoped to visit lock museum but found it was closed on Sun, Mon, and Tues. Big disappointment

A rustic little marina, 2014-12-08
Captain: , Aurora, KY (146)

Although some of the reviews are fairly critical of the facilities here I found them more than adequate. The docks are in rough shape (the owner said new ones are to be installed in the near future), but the cove the marina sits in was very sheltered and quiet. Entrance of the channel gets shallow briefly, but we had no real toruble with it. Staff was very helpful and I would not hesitate to stop here in the future. This is not the Hilton, but a good, decent, if not crude little marina.

Needs some work, 2014-11-01
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

There is no comparison between four stars on the river and as what one would expect while traveling the east coast ICW. For the River this is a three, but not a three that i would expect. the staff was nice and pleasant, but the docks were in ill repair, the bathrooms dingy and the place unkept. If you want to go to the visitors center call first because they were closed when we got there and the hours are different than the website

Facilities are so-so / The People are Great, 2014-04-04
Captain: , Jamaica Beach, TX (180)

We would agree, rustic is the word. As previously mentioned the docks are really old and are barely serviceable but everything works. (As of March, 2014 there are some new docks stacked and ready for installation according the the owners) Showers, laundry, restroom and courtesy car. No problems gettting in or out with five foot draft. Best part - the staff was as nice and as friendly as any we have ever met.

Place needs work, 2013-11-11
Captain: , Meredith, NH (638)

Stayed one nite. Everything works & good entry channel but needs some upgrading. Great take at the lock just at the marina entrance. Don;t miss the Montgomery Snag Boat & reconstructed anti bellum information building.

rustic and docks in rough shape, 2013-10-31
Captain: , Chattanooga tn (281)

Price was $1 a foot and 10% discount for loopers. Docks are in fair condition and need some work. Electric and water works but connections look rough. We're anchored at pickensvillw which was nice but storm with 20-30 mile hour winds made it a better choice to tie uo at marina. Next marina south is Demopolis so only game in town in location
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Per marina owner they are planing on removing the old docks and installing new covered docks within the next year

Good evening stop, 2013-05-23
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens (584)

Still $1.00/ft rate and the area now has 4G AT&T service with 3 bars. The cell tower was put up recently. Very quiet and well protected.

Toss up between 2 or 3 stars, 2012-11-22
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

Rustic is the word. As mentioned before docks are old but serviceable. Electrical at our slip was questionable. Its ok. It works. If you must stop at a marina this will do. Very nice people. Good sized pool for maneuvering. No probs with depth in channel or marina.

Rustic but friendly. Good stop to regroup @ low price., 2012-10-20
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Courtesy vehicle and pleasant dockmaster. We enjoyed our run to small towns and museums. Plenty to do here. Facilities have little to offer, but the dock is solid and electricity is dependable. We would stop again since right before lock.

Still Rustic, 2012-05-31
Captain: , jackson, TN (884)

Has not changed in years. Docks are hurting for attention, but servicable. Curtesy car still runs with no AC. Folks remain friendly and helpful. $1/' including electric. Restrooms old, but clean. A previous review mentioned an AGLCA discount. We did not get that, nor MTOA, nor Boat US, nor Military. No discounts, period.

Nice little protected marina close to lock, 2012-05-12
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

A rustic but serviceable marina stop Navigation is Straight forward 9' mostly coming in and at docks channel into marina that is very protected. Floating docks and good power. Courtsey car. 5% discount for AGLCA ask! This not a fancy marina but serves the need at a bargain price considering power wifi included as well as a courtesy van which is nothing fancy but starts, turns and stops. Bathrooms are private simple and clean. Laundry was $1 to wash and 50 cents to dry with a very long cycle. Staff is friendly. They are struggling in this economy but still providing all basic services at a bargain price point. Second time here and will stop again.

Worst Marina in North America, 2012-01-20
Captain: , Chattanooga (220)

"Dump" is the only word to describe this place. The power towers have bare, twisted wires sticking out. The coks have missing boards. The fuel dock looks like it is left over from the Civil War. Staying on the anchor in the outer slough is a much better alternative.

Quiet and laid back, 2011-11-04
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, FL (603)

We stayed here in 2011 and it was acceptable but not great. Friendly people but no amenities. A good overnight stop.

Pirate's Marina Cove, 2011-11-02
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

Nice protected place for a marina. Docks are OK, just not great. People are nice and helpful, have a courtesy car.
The Bevil Visitor center is within walking distance and is a nice place to visit. Be sure and visit the "snagboat" Montgomery when there. It is worth it as is the rest of the center.
Nice resturant called "Doen Yonder" is nearby and the catfish was greatQ

small hospitable marina, and the best stop around, 2011-07-04
Captain: , Hawesville,Ky (371)

Stopped here on our way up the tom bigbee and found the staff to be friendly, and the dock natives (with the exception of a chihuahua named yappy) to be very hospitable. The courtesy car doesn't have shocks, so keep it slow over bumps, and the fuel dock has a small wasp problem, other than that it's a perfectly wonderful marina. If you look around the basin at the right time, you may find some playful otters that seem to love it as much as transients who stop here do. Word to the wise, there's a kitten that lurks the marina at night, so don't be startaled if he finds his way onto your boat.

Quaint and Extremely Friendly, 2011-06-14
Captain: , Somerville, TN (201)

A little worn, but exceeds ALL EXPECTIONS regarding customer service. We stopped here going down to the Coast and now have stopped on the return segment. On the Northbound segment, we got delayed at the Tom Bevill Lock and they stayed until we got in which was well after dark. They helped us secure the lines, connect to shore power and made sure we were settled in.

Oh, and by the way... the route in to the Marina was well marked, even has flashing red and green markers at the entrance. Never less than 7 feet all the way in.

It rates as a 3 Star, but the customer service is nothing but a 5 Star.

Rat hole of marina, 2010-12-09
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (101)

Rough place; however, 1 mile walk to park with antique Snag Boat interesting.

Pirate Marina Cove, 2009-12-12
Captain: , Perdido Key Florida (460)

Older very quaint marina. Clean and well kept. Staff is extremely polite and nice. Will certainly stop there again.

nice country marina, 2009-10-31
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

coutesy car, small laudry, showers, not close to shopping however nice antibellum house tour and snag boat tour.
Raised the rate to $1 a foot, however.

Now Marina Cove Marina?, 2009-02-08
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

Isolated and a little run down, but otherwise friendly and helpful.

Walk over to the lock to see the old snag boat.

Very quite and laid back!, 2007-02-22
Captain: , Snellville, GA (162)

Nice stop off, but not really much repair services on site. Can be arranged however.

Quiet little marina, 2007-02-01
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1236)

Very nice place... nice folks...
Easy access from the river with plenty of water.
